New Porn Channel Mod: The SexyTime Network 0.7.8

I would title the thread "new TV porn channel", not "new mod for WW + NWP", as the latter implies some more in-depth interaction with the mentioned mods.

 

I don't want to thwart your efforts or enthusiasm, but have you heard about AirplaneRandy's porn channel or Conerotique? You might want to try to maximise compatibility. Especially AirplaneRandy's mod already replaces the romance channel.

I had heard of AirplaneRandy's mod, but perhaps incorrectly believed it was outdated and would not work with recent updates. The other I had not heard of, but will look into. Perhaps that is not a bad suggestion to re-title the thread (and I have). I do have additional things planned that will tie in to WW and Nisa's Wicked Perversions, and the network already references Lost Eden.com, so it wouldn't make much sense without the other mods, but I will take the suggestions to heart. I intend to set this apart from existing porn channel mods by tying in additional features. My extensive video experience means it is quite simple to create custom animations within these clips, so on the video front nearly anything is already possible.

 

(I also looked at Coneroique. It does look like it is based on a similar idea, although I'd like to expand on it further by adding custom animated clips, references to other things within the Sims 4 world, including things within WW and NWP, additional buffs from watching content either on TV's or on the STN website, and more. I also included real porn clips as opposed to porn clips featuring Sims, although I could potentially include some of those too.)

 

The reason for the creation of THIS thread was to discuss these features, improvements, additional clip suggestions, etc. and potentially how they are implemented. I have been able to edit in-game text, and add video and image content as well as editing video playlists to add more, but have no experience with adding Sim buffs, additional sim or computer interactions, etc. I was hoping that someone here may be able to point me in the right direction regarding these things. It may take some screenshots and ambitious additional features to generate interest if there are already other current porn channel mods, particularly if they function the same way and replace the romance channel (which already applies a flirty buff).

 

I will have some screenshots up and added to the original post soon. If nobody cares about the mod, I'd still like to learn how to do these things, as I have extensive modding ideas that could build on the game greatly. If I can accomplish a functionally working mod within a couple hours, then imagine what could be accomplished given some time and more information on how to achieve some of these things.

Oh I'm sure there are people that care. Especially if your mod(s) do more than just add another porn channel. Though honestly, even if it's just that, more porn is always good ?

 

I want to learn how to do buffs, too, however I intend to purely script them. Depending on what you want to accomplish, you might not even need scripts, as xml/tuning modding alone seems pretty powerful (and is less prone to break with updates). But don't ask me, I barely got a single interaction working that only calls a script ?

Thanks nugerumon, it may start as only another porn channel, but I intend to learn more about scripting and XML tuning etc. I have only perused a couple of threads regarding it so far, and have come across the Zerbu Mod Constructor, although I'm not sure if it's the right approach. I will have to look into it further tonight.

I feel that information about Sims 4 modding is very fragmented and thus hard to find if you don't already know what to look for.

 

I can offer thisthat, and check the acknowledge section of my mod *shamless self plug*

 

Sims 4 Studio seems pretty powerful in general and is, in my opinion, a must-have tool even for people not creating mods themselves: You can open all package-files with it and poke around in them.

That's very interesting. I'll have to look into this further, as I've only worked with the Sims 4 Data Tool and S4PE so far. They were fairly complex, but luckily the thread I followed had helpful steps allowing me to export all info to a text file for easy searching, allowing me to make the required modifications before importing the text files back in and creating a package which included the modifications. I'm sure these links will prove quite helpful so thanks for that.

Well, you were certainly right that XML tuning is pretty powerful. I altered some values and sims immediately become flirty upon walking into the room. Now to figure out how to get the proper moodlet to show above the Sim, similar to when they witness sex with WW. There's probably a simple flag that I've missed, though, because despite increasing the buff, they act as though they are watching the romance channel, with flowers appearing above their heads etc. The buff was strong enough that one couple spontaneously started having sex, which is great, but it still needs work to get the reactions to be appropriate.

I like the idea of getting more content. My sims have subscriptions for Rany & CinE on TV and porn & AEP porn on computer already. They need more time to watch all this stuff. I'd be great if they could enjoy porn together, they often feel quite lonely. With the proper buffs it should be possible to join in. Also gaming together would be great, and/or Just Dance for TV but that's another issue.

I do have the AEP Mod, but not the others; I tried to implement a change that would prevent turning the TV off, but apparently it crashes the game. This is exactly what I'm trying to do, get them to watch porn, or at least react to it, together. That is a good idea to add a Join In option when watching. I'd have to look into how to implement that, but it probably involves duping code from WW itself. Perhaps I should import the WW package to hunt down the buffs given when sex happens in the room, and implement the same when watching the channel (assuming that can be done). I'll have to look into this further, but adding a Join In option is potentially a good idea.

 

Thanks for the feedback. You're right, gaming together or dancing together would be good options for the TV as well.

It's a good mod but I'm annoyed by one detail of that mod... the fact that the author of Conerotique has chosen to not be original with their show names and has named them directly after sitcoms, movies, and video games with no pornographic plays on those titles, I mean they could've named Tomb Raider to something like Womb Raider and so on and it would've been fine but that's not what the author of Conerotique chose to do for some reason.

 

Anyway I know It's a small detail to complain about but it's.. just one of those things for me. It is a good mod from the looks of things though.

 

Those are just my thoughts anyway, but still... FULL STEAM AHEAD!

 

Please?...

 

Also please do not be afraid to add sound to your mod at some point, it makes a big difference.

I included some clips from the game using WW animations and attempted to add sound, however I had trouble getting it to work, so that's still a work in progress. I did make some additional progress on the XML tuning and adding more clips, but it seems hit or miss whether it crashes the game. I thought I had some idea of how to circumvent the issue because it worked with previous additions, but my last revision was a bust. Regardless, I'm posting the package for the previous 100% stable version.

 

I think you will like the fact that I completely made up the names (and logos) for the shows advertised on the network, used a variety of random clip and gif images, and even made professional logos and watermarks for the network itself. There are even a couple additional clips I've prepared that are not available in this revision, because attempting to add them didn't work, but this will be resolved soon. Previous clips also gave me trouble, yet I was able to re-convert them and then add them successfully. I believe it has something to do with framerates, but I'm not 100% sure. But previously, converting a 15FPS vp6 video to 15FPS and then re-encoding it to vp6 worked to add clips that previously crashed the game. I think my mistake was combining two clips and XML tuning in a single revision, making it difficult to pinpoint the issue. But rest assured that more is in the pipeline.

 

I noticed that each time I load a new package the game loads slower the first time, but afterwards works fine. I believe the data is being buffered or loaded by the game when this happens, because after stopping and restarting the game the issue doesn't re-occur (unless the package is renamed). But initially I thought the mod was no good because the game loaded slowly and seemed to be "out to lunch" for a short period, faking me out, so give the game a bit longer to load the first time. Once you see the Sims logo and blue background before the title screen, everything is fine.

Small update: Figured out that certain frames in a video near it's beginning or end don't mesh well or align somehow, causing a crash during the transition. Others had speculated it had something to with the audio streams, but without any it's still an issue. The upshot is that if I can edit and re-encode a problem clip, I can eliminate the crash. So that's good to know.

 

I need to focus less on adding clips and BS ads and more on game mechanics and how they function if I'm really going to make any progress. While increasing the flirty buff they receive was a step in the right direction, I need to learn more about manipulating Sim reactions. I need to focus more on the text editing as well, as I know there is some I missed. But the XML script is convoluted and frequently redundant (or at least seems to be), making it difficult to pinpoint which value is the one to edit in some cases. There's a similar scenario with the in-game text, but that at least is more intuitive.

 

I'll upload the latest package that's been tested but am going to be focusing more on the other end of the mod the next few days. I also need to look into why my audio conversions went wrong learned that the audio codec GUI doesn't work properly and audio conversions work fine when done by command line. While initially I chose not to have audio, especially for some of the meshed together clips put together on the fly, not having the ability bothered me, because at the least I would want audio for the scenes featuring in-game animations. So audio may be added in the future but it would be unlikely to be with the existing clips.

 

Potentially better work could be done on the graphical logo end and the animations involved, and it could definitely be more professional, but this wasn't bad for an on the fly mod and it proved educational; I learned a lot about how the video playback portion of the game works, how to combine clips of differing formats, resolutions, and even gif and jpg images into a single seamless video. A bit more time and effort, combined with some additional knowledge could really accomplish a lot and make a perfect addition for WW, WP and the AEP mod.

 

Feel free to offer any suggestions for clips, "shows" advertised, Sim reactions, or anything else. While right now it's not much, if this project could gain some momentum then we may hear from others who have some knowledge on XML and scripting that I'm having trouble finding and then a lot more will be possible.

 

Right now I could use help hunting down some relevant information. It seems that some sites involving discussions of modding have convoluted (or broken) search features, frequently don't allow posting, and sometimes involve antiquated information that no longer reasonably applies. I may have to take a look at what makes some existing mods tick to truly make progress, but if anyone has any helpful links regarding XML editing, scripting, or other modding tools, it may be a big help.

A new revision is in the works with additional text modifications and XML changes, as well as additional clips.

 

I am not having as much luck hunting down information on modifying Sim reactions as I would like, and it could be I'm looking in the wrong places. I'll have to look further and see what I can come up with, but the thought bubbles associated with the Romance channel need replacement. Other than that, most of the text referencing the channel should be modified and refer to the SexyTime Network now, and Sim reactions aside from the thought bubbles seem mostly appropriate. 

 

I'll have the new revision up soon, but feel free to leave any suggestions or feedback.

Added more modifications to in-game text and xml values. Some things I haven't figured out how to change, but I am looking into it.

Tried to include audio in the last clip; the volume was very low in-game but seemed to work at first, but then it began playing very slow then extremely fast. The clip plays normally without audio, but it was intended to have it. Kind of frustrating that I couldn't solve that one through editing.

 

Perhaps it works with shorter clips, I'll have to experiment more, but the clip I tried was about 2 minutes.

I'm certain that AirplaneRandy has a tutorial on how to do stuff like this, including adding sound.

I'll have to look into that but so far it appears he used the same tutorial I did. I put a lot of work into that last audio track, so it was pretty frustrating when 30 seconds in or so it began playing as though underwater, and then abruptly went extremely fast through the rest of the clip. I'm going to try some shorter clips and see how it works out, and if it does, I'll try reprocessing the audio on that last clip and see if I can get different results.

 

There's likely a way to control the channel playlist that I need to look into too, as with more clips it becomes more important to be able to play back a specific one to test it and not just wait through the others. So far they appear to play at random despite being ordered in a playlist. The last clip I added crashed the game, but I know how to solve that and I'm more interested in solving the audio problem at this point.

Figured out the audio issue and reprocessed the last clip with an increased volume, so now it has audio as intended, and shockingly the prior effort I put in paid off, as the whole thing plays in sync despite being taken from multiple in-game videos and having my stock animations added. Now that I know this can be done, and what crucial steps I overlooked before, future clips will be more interesting.

 

I'm replacing the existing revision here with the one that has working audio on the last clip. The other clips are unlikely to have it added, but new clips may have it in the future! I also have some ideas as to how to put multiple clips together without sync issues now. File sizes are definitely larger with audio though, and it seems it doesn't matter how it's compressed as it always comes out the same size once converted to a dat file to add to the video. Luckily, the file size bloat is not TOO horrendous, so a 3MB clip becomes almost 8MB but it's not that bad.

 

I'm still looking into how to control the channel playlist; it seems AirplaneRandy was onto something when he put several TV's in a single room, as it keeps more of them on, with different clips playing at once, making it easier to test them all out. I was hoping some kind of mod could let me advance the playlist, but I haven't found it or any discussion of it. It would be a nice additional feature in-game though.

Have a new revision in the works, but I'm not 100% sure about it's stability yet. It's difficult to get the Sims to sit through the whole new clip (at 4 minutes) to see whether it works or not. I've had inconsistent results, so I'd like to put it out to others to weed out any issues. I got all 10 clips to play successfully, and the latest two have audio, but once I saw the channel freeze after finishing the latest (and longest) clip. It didn't crash the game, and changing the channel and back solved the problem. The other times it seemed to play the clip and move to another without issue. 

 

This last clip was kind of fun to make like a music video. If people like it I may do others. If anyone actually gets their Sims to sit through a 4 minute clip without turning the TV off randomly, let me know if it transitions smoothly or not. At any rate I have confirmation that it will not crash the game upon finishing the clip.

Another small update; apparently the game does NOT like my fake static between clips.

I wound up splitting the last clip into 3 segments, and the one that didn't have the fake static worked the first try.

The other two would not work at all until the fake static was edited out. Have two of the three perfectly stable and working on the third. The only downside is that the clips don't quite end as originally intended, but it still works.

 

Shorter clips are easier to test out too, it's easier to get the sims to sit through a clip that is 1 minute or 1 and a half minutes as opposed to 4. Having multiple TV's in a room helps too, as I can have all sims focus on one when it plays the clip being tested.  Check out my impromptu rooftop testing center.

Because the clip was like a music video with songs from different eras, it may work better between the clips that don't have audio during gameplay too, taking advantage of the fact it plays the clips at random and doesn't adhere to the order of the playlist.

 

There will be some standard porn clips with audio in the future, and probably more featuring in-game animations too. I had fun making this clip, and believe it or not, the whole thing was created from two porn clips and a shitload of gif images, which is one reason the audio is only music. (The other reason is that Debbie Does Dallas has a VERY annoying soundtrack). There are a ton of other images, songs, and clips I could have used for each era. I wound up with almost half of what I downloaded from Google unused, so if anybody likes this more could be created easily, and with other content it would be possible to mix any background audio with a soundtrack when needed. Perhaps I'll even do a MpTV (Music Porn TV) series of ads later.

 

Have some other ideas for clips I think would be cool too, but in the immediate I'll be working on getting this last clip segment to work properly before the next official release.

Some additional progress was made; I have a greater idea how to deal with problematic clips now. Have all three segments working without issue and have also proven that the playlist length has not impacted stability. The new revision should be up soon; I may include another standard clip with audio first, as I've also gotten the file size bloat issue under control.

 

Have some ideas about more clips and "ads" but any suggestions are welcome.
