Hi there!  I'm having an issue.  I can't get "A Strange Rock" to begin.  I can't even activate it with the "setstage Laura_AStrangeRockQuest 0" command.  I've read the forums a bit, and found that there was a problem in the past, but was supposedly fixed in the last update, yet it's still not working.  Not even after re-installing the mod on a clean save.

I've tried a few fixes I found on this forum, but nothing has worked.  PLEASE HALP!   I yearn for new content.

The quest sometimes didn't start for some people because of an alias filling failure, but that should be fixed now.

I haven't had someone with that issue since the last update.

Does the dialogue to start the quest show up?

Can you share a papyrus log from when it happened?

Hi! In this post post i had exact same issue as you have. And in this post i actually have corrected my savegame (it is a guide) - solution to Strange Rock quest when it don't start. When i corrected my savegame, and Strange Rock quest started for me with no issue i have made a proof of this in this post .

Method above - works for any mod if quest don't start. Reason it won't start: corrupted forms in savegame by adding/removing mods, changing load order or by letting mod manager or LOOT to sort load order again... (lock your load order to avoid this)

Well you have simply corrupted your savegame - but don't delete it - it simply needs clear out. And for the love of Skyrim Gods - please read forums of a mod to find already posted solution - before posting. It is couple of pages back there... xD

Just the other night I ran into this issue, but not by default.

I was actually troubleshooting 100% stack dump problems upon entering Laura's shop as entering the shop for me was causing an immediate stack dump referencing SOS scripts on a male actor that happened to be just outside the shop (Terek from Relationship Dialogue Overhaul).  I've never seen this particular stack dump before and it wasn't happening in general play (went to Whiterun after reloading with no issues).  Disabling him stopped the stack dumps, but also caused the Strange Rock quest to be impossible to start even with console and sometimes Katarina wasn't even in the store upon entering.  I assume that meant that the outside NPC was somehow getting tangled with the quest aliases and breaking things, or scripts were running crazy on him in particular for some reason and overloading the initial scripts that set up Laura's shop on first entry.  As my save file is ancient and heavily save edited, I wouldn't worry about *fixing* this as I'll do a clean save for the next version, and mention if I still have issues.

I was able to play through the entire strange rock and "what she deserves" quest without any problems despite the stack dumps (I had several in the process, but once you get one dump it can be expected to get several more in the same play session).  The quests were nicely done, and I'm definitely interested in seeing where the story goes.  Thanks for your work on this.

An unstable game seems to really mess with quest aliases. I never had the issue with starting quests so far and neither have my testers.

Most issues posted here seem to be caused by their unstable games, but I don't blame them. I had a terribly unstable game for a long time.

I doubt myself everytime someone posts an issue. Even though I spent most of the development time testing my mod.

I had someone who I was helping with my mod. He had a really weird issue I never encountered or expected. I asked him a bunch of questions and he answered them, but we were still just troubleshooting by eliminating possible causes. He then finally gave me his log which was a 1.4mb log from 5 minutes of play. I told him to lighten his loadorder and start a new save and the issue was fixed.

Again, I'm not bashing people who have a bad install. But it's sometimes really hard to see the difference between a problem with my mod and one with their game.

Sorry for the rant.

It good to hear you're enjoying it by the way. :)

You could try to clean your save like @piotsze said, but the safest way would be to start a new game. Cleaning a save isn't risk free.

You can find out if it's a bad save by trying to start the quest with a new save.

If it still doesn't work even with a new save, there is probably something wrong with your install.

Yep, that's why I add context to bug reports by mentioning how old and heavily scripted my load order is - I'd consider my game to be at best a heavy stress test and not an ideal environment.  Unless you get a *lot* of the same bug reports, if your testers aren't seeing obvious issues your mod is very likely fine and a user's game is simply too close to the breaking point to run the mod smoothly.  Sometimes that can be mitigated by spreading the script load out or adding delays for papyrus to catch up, and sometimes it isn't worth the effort (and it won't help people who are already running a near-broken game anyway).

At best I'd suggest asking people to submit a papyrus log immediately if they are asking for help for weird issues - and if the log is full of garbage and stack dumps advise them they need a more stable environment.  Better than spending a huge amount of time trying to help only to find out the whole exercise was pointless because their game was stack dumping from the beginning and breaking scenes/scripts randomly.

I have small delays in the scripts already. Mostly for the DD functions.

I also always start with asking for their log, they often don't post it. Probably because they don't know how.

But I won't refuse to help them because they don't post it. I don't want it to look like I'm punishing them for not knowing something.

Putting a large "Make sure your game isn't an unstable mess before asking for help!" in bold letters on the main page, makes me seem like a massive ass. Even though I sometimes feel like it should be said.

Tststststs,

spelling mistakes. Again! Laura! Haven't we had this before?

Though I expect that whatever you post on the mod page won't be read in 95% anyway. ?

And we have many many posts and threads all over the LL site with helpful stuff. Unfortunately it's disperesed and not yet with a perfect start, where we could always point to.

In the end, we have often resort to posts with always the same advice. E.g. I always copy and paste the same snippet link to your Bodyslide one-pager :classic_biggrin:

Voting Strong +1 for adding this. Reason: you can't help everybody Laura, even if you try.

I have also posted some sort of a problem - but i was not passively waiting for some Galant Hero to solve it for me... And well, it wasn't Your fault Laura and Your mod related. I just made a mess for myself - becouse i made something wrong or stupid with my mod setup. When i have found a solution working for myself - i have shared it also for the community. ?

BTW i love your avatar - it looks cool!

Hey, just wanted to say What She Deserves was the most exciting experience I've had in Skyrim for a very long time.

It's amazing what can be done with the right kind of scenes and dialogue. I was disappointed it had to end! But well, one can't just stay in that situation..... *coughs*

Just in case, I'll add I also had this issue early on, but it was pointed out here in the thread that the Whiterun NPC's that the quest needs you interact with must, of course, be ALIVE for the quest to find them and start as it should. My issue was that "something" keeps killing Eorlund Gray-Mane when I'm not in the city (and I do have one of the Better Vampires mods disabling the Vampire "City Attacks", so it's not one of them), and the quest needs you to speak with him... but in the end all I needed to do was resurrect poor Eorlund and the quest started and finished as it should ?

I may need to ask around the Dark Brotherhood to see if any of them have an Eorlund contract I'm unaware of... ?

Hi Laura, really loving your mod and the quests you add so far! Really exciting and looking forward to the next update! I've noticed that not many mods uses the straitjackets in devious device (always the armbinders, shackles, or yokes), cause i personally think that they are really hot and should be given more love! Would absolutely love it if your next update included a quest involving one, but then again its up for you to create what you personally love! Keep on making awesome content!!

Glad you like it. ?

I love the straitjackets too, I'm really close to buying one for myself. That's why I also added straitjacket to the upcoming quest.

Will you blow my mind again just like with armbinders and tell me there are self-bondage versions of straightjackets as well?

And can you give an ETA of the next update as in within the next 7 days or later? I finally got my new PC and set up my Skyrim. If the new update is really close I will hold off install your lovely mod and avoid potential savegame breaking.

They exist. ?

https://www.bondagewebbing.com/collections/self-bondage/products/self-bondage-straitjacket-leotard-nylon-spandex

That one is a bit too easy to get out of. You can easily lift your arms above your head to escape.

This one is a lot more secure:

https://www.bondagewebbing.com/collections/self-bondage/products/self-bondage-straitjacket-leotard-with-bondage-straps-nylon-spandex

It may seem like they're sponsoring me, but they're not. I just love their stuff.

I can't give you an exact release date. It all depends on what we find during testing.

My best guess would be either in 1 week or 1 month.

These updates take so long because I want to be 100% sure that it works.

It's always safer to make a new save but, I can confirm that the new version doesn't require a new save. We haven't found any issues with using an older save as long as there are no quests running.

Posted

Wow, they really do exist. I think that surprised me more than the armbinder. It is the site as with the armbinder, right?

Since you gave one week as the earlist guess I will just install the current version. After all I haven't played it yet since I broke my last Skyrim setup a few days before you released it. And I am really looking forward to trying the new quest.

Good luck finding and fixing all the annoying bugs. Bug hunting can be annoying as hell.

Yeah, it's the same site.

Bug hunting can be annoying, but I'm sharing the annoyance with the testers. ?

We're getting a lot of issue-free runs now and we're mostly doing it to check spelling and grammar.

Next on the list is implementing something small I'm working on and giving it to the test group, preparing the updated post and changelog, taking new screenshots for the mod page and making sure that all debug messages are gone before release.

Then do a few thorough runs to be sure before release.

Its a really nice mod. The only think in don’t like is that its has to end :(

But really nice. The background Story and everything.

If you need help at any Point just ask and I will try to do it :)

Just wanted to say I've enjoyed this mod for a while now.  I recently got a new computer and, after working all the bugs out regarding moving Skyrim, I finally added the shop back to my mod list.  I play SE, and the mod works nicely, except for one thing.  I don't get the quests.  Been there three times this play through, bought keys twice and got bound once, and still no quests.  Probably something else I have causing problems there.  Still, I enjoy the shop, and I fully intend to keep it on my mods list.

I don't have anything for you to do. I'm happy with the current group of testers and I don't want the group to get too big.

All I'm asking you is to be patient.

That's good to hear.

It's honestly a surprise that it works for SE at all. I didn't do anything to make this mod work for SE and I wouldn't know how.

I still have SE on Steam with a big "Install" button next to it. I spent too much time on LE to make the jump to SE. 90% of the mods I use are also made for LE.

I can't help you with SE issues, but I can try if you gave me some more info.

Do you get the dialogue option to start them?

What happens when you try to start them?

What is the last thing that you see before it stops working?

I don't get the dialogue.  I get the option to shop, to buy keys, fix locks, ask Laura what she did before the shop, and, of course, the option to get tied up for free.  Last time I had the mod, on my old computer, I had and tried the strange rock quest.  Thoroughly enjoyed it, too, by the way.  This time through is on a new game, no mod changes at all since I started.  All I've done is configure mods.  As far as I know, the only mod I have this time that I didn't have then, Devious Devices mods, is Equip.  Not sure if that would affect it.  Otherwise, I have Devious Devices, Cursed Loot and Captured Dreams, along with everything required by those mods.  But, as far as I'm concerned, even if I don't get the quests, I'll still enjoy the shop and what it has to offer.  And who knows?  Maybe after another update or two, I'll get the quests.  Either way, great job on the mod.  I do have one request, though.  Could you add panel gags when being tied by Laura?  The ball gag never looks right on my character.

Ok, I think I figured out my problem.  I'm an idiot, that was the problem.  I downloaded version 1.2, but installed version 1.03, which was already in my downloads folder.  That was my mistake.  Before I start a new game, I'll switch to the newer version and let you know how it works on SE.

Good news is, I installed version 1.2, and got the quests.  Bad news is, once I got the rock, as soon as my character was bound, CTD.  Happened three times in a row.  All the gear was built in Bodyslide before I started that last game, so it's not the build.  At a guess, I'd say the mod isn't completely compatible with SE, but I could be wrong.  It could still be another mod conflicting.  All the same, I still like the shop and, quests or no quests, I intend to keep Laura around.  And I still say good work on the mod.

So I finally tried out 1.20 and I have to say, "What she deserves" is a really, really well done quest. Nothing felt tedious (once I had given up and googled figuered out where the goddamn Blue Palace was. I had not been to Solitude for 3 or 4 years ? I felt really stupid afterwards, you even get a landmark for the palace on your compass...), unlike certain quests from certain other great mods.
I am really looking forward to how the story will progress.
