Reginald_001 Posted November 6, 2019 Author Posted November 6, 2019 Development Update They really made a mess of the dialogue scenes in Nuka World. Instead of just splitting scenes, they re-use scenes and play them depending on certain quest stages. It's turning out to be a real pain in the butt as inserting dialogue for Ivy has introduced minor bugs that are quite unexplainable. So I'm now in the process of meticulously going over all scene dialogue and logic to remove any bugs. So they call a scene, then in reverse order, depending on the quest stage, the PA announcer says something (in the Gauntlet quest). So as the quest stages rise, the earlier in the scene some dialogue is triggered. All dialogue is said once, so they don't need to trigger <end scene> in their dialogue responses. But normally, you want a companion to only interject something when they are close enough to do so. So you add this conditional: "Only speak if companion <x> units away from player or closer". The problem that's introduced then, is that if Ivy skips a line the first time the scene was triggered, but then is close enough the second time around, the old dialogue is triggered, resulting in very strange lines. So I had to change the entire scene logic so that Ivy doesn't speak her lines out of order. It's not that this is a bad design. It works great for their intents and purposes (e.g. no companion was needed). But because I needed one I had to basically restructure all those scenes. This also means that Ivy's Nuka World DLC might interfere with other mods that change quest lines for the DLC. We'll see how this works out in practice. The worst that can happen for Ivy is that she doesn't speak some lines. What's even more interesting is the conditionals for a lot of quest dialogue. I mean.. take Harvey for instance. He's just sitting there, trying to trap you. And Ivy notices and warns you. But what if the player rushes to Harvey and figures it out before Ivy can tell them? Well that's something to program into the dialogue, because Ivy shouldn't warn the player about a trap if they already killed Harvey or spoke to him. So it looks like this: Yes, it all looks so easy when you install and play a mod. But the amount of work put into making everything work is mind boggling. The same goes for all the critique at the vanilla game. I'm still amazed at how easy it is to mod this game compared to some other games (cough: quake engine, doom engine).. I'll be posting a FULL RUNTHROUGH of the Gauntlet soon and introductions with the other Gang leaders to show off some of her quest integration and lines. Check in often for new videos! 4
Runco990 Posted November 6, 2019 Posted November 6, 2019 LOL! Like I said... Bethesda has to re-write the game from scratch to properly integrate with IVY!!! 2
Reginald_001 Posted November 6, 2019 Author Posted November 6, 2019 Ivy goes to Nuka World Video (19 minute video): The Gauntlet (Full) This video shows the first part of a full run through of the Gauntlet. It illustrates how Ivy reacts to things that happen in the world and how she is aware of what's happening with the player. Many of these lines come from a random pool, meaning that each time you play through this segment, she'll respond differently. I am intentionally sending her into the trap in the first room, to make sure she doesn't get stuck outside when the door is closed behind the player. Normally you would push through and she would automatically teleport towards you (if you have configured her that way through the controller holotape). All of this is work in progress. All robot voice lines are either for the 5.0 or Nuka Release and all of Chic's lines are all original content. I'm also intentionally running slowly through the gauntlet, to keep Ivy close and give her lots of opportunity to talk to me. The final confrontation has a rather long winded rant from Ivy. This is at a misplaced point and will be reworked to fit elsewhere. The final boss fight is not in this video. There are some cuts here and there, to skip level load, or exploring sections/terminals. That could make it so it looks like Ivy jumps from one point to another, that's just bad editing on my end and doesn't happen in game. Stuff shown in this 2 part video: - Quest integration - Ivy's SA (Situational Awareness) - Ivy's teleportation - Hypercombat WARNING: WORK IN PROGRESS - SPOILERS AHEAD! 2019-11-06_16-20-22.mp4 2019-11-06_16-31-59.mp4 3

Reginald_001 Posted November 7, 2019 Author Posted November 7, 2019 Development Log I tweaked a lot of things after watching the Gauntlet video. One of the major things was to add compression and normalize all of Ivy's robot voiced volumes in a big batch action. This really helps with the audio. I've removed some dialogue bugs and have added around 70 lines of dialogue in the first sections of Nuka World. I also finished quest integration for the main DLC quest. I'll be adding random dialogue to other entries later today. 4
Reginald_001 Posted November 7, 2019 Author Posted November 7, 2019 Another Development Update Went through the entire Gauntlet and other key quests for a final bug run. Got all of them and sent them to bug-heaven. Getting ready for a complete playthrough of Nuka World this weekend. Sort of a last run-through before finishing up on Ivy's quest surrounding Nuka World and Dr. Stein. Added 10 'Deary Ivy' Sent in letters to WIVS radio. This is the new radio segment, where settlers, raiders and other people of the wasteland send letters to WIVS radio asking for life-advice. Ivy responds in her typical manner. Sometimes comical, sometimes wildly serious. Many of these 'Dear Ivy' requests are heavily inspired on PM's I received from people in the past, some of which are hilarious.. Suiting up to play the part of raider in Nuka World. 5

Reginald_001 Posted November 7, 2019 Author Posted November 7, 2019 I got deeper into Nuka World today with Ivy. Everything is working as it should and I'm very happy with the end result and integration. Some of the quest integration and especially the chats with the other raider bosses turned out better than I'd hoped and I was often laughing at Ivy's dryness and zeal. I keep finding new things for Ivy to say, going back to add them, then going back in to replay the same parts. It's tedious but I want it perfect, especially the beginning parts of the Nuka World quest. While going through the park, I'd like Ivy to respond to each announcer line but I know this is overkill, so she responds to some. Sometimes I find that some dialogue wasn't placed well or just doesn't work, so I remove those lines as I play, then replay. Camera and angles are a bitch. I keep forgetting that camera doesn't zoom in unless the player enters a dialogue response, so I still need to add some logic for the camera to zoom in on Ivy for her initial reaction, being careful not to break any of the quests if she is NOT a part of the player's followers (sometimes I forget there are people that dismiss Ivy at times). Ivy likes keeping me safe, so she got right up to Nisha to make sure she didn't make any sudden moves: Of course she looks the part for it: 1
Reginald_001 Posted November 7, 2019 Author Posted November 7, 2019 NC-2C Development. (This is not MY work, or even affiliated with Ivy. I just thought it fitted very well with how I see Ivy's body was created before Deborah's brain and organs were put inside). 2
Guest Posted November 7, 2019 Posted November 7, 2019 I just started a new game of FONV and installed the Veronica mod while waiting for Ivy 5. I'm playing as a male this time. So, in Dome mode, she's pretty fun. Not so much slave mode. It's not meant for males I think. It's also quirky at best......she can get you killed if she triggers near hostiles, even with reds on the compass. But I like the dialog more than the animations. I'm thinking about killing the animation scripts and replacing them with messaging for the RP factor. This brings me to IVY. I probably won't run AAF. I'm not really a fan of it. But I had read your art/fiction about Ivy with Nora. So I have to ask. Is that new dialog in 5.0 or just fiction about the mod? Will Ivy have dominant dialog, of just submissive?

I also don't use any animations/framework etc.. As for Ivy. In 5.0 she's not so much 'more dominant' as that there's just a whole lot more of her, more dialogue and more integration. So the comic is not related to 5.0 as in that it's an actual scene or something. 3
Reginald_001 Posted November 8, 2019 Author Posted November 8, 2019 Development Log Played Nuka World mostly today. All went flawlessly until I arrived at Dryrock Gulch and the bots weren't talking to us. Turns out I made some small mistakes while integrating Ivy into the quest so I went in and I fixed it. Then I figured, let's go in and fix those long standing bugs in the base 5.0 build as well. So I went into the base build to start solving those. All good, fixed a couple of them and I'm now looking into a bug where it's impossible to turn on Ivy's profanity filter. Likely I made a logic error in the script that automatically turns it off when Ivy is angry with the player. I think I'll need to add a global variable that indicates the Users preference, then set it to that, instead of automatically turning it on. I'm still very happy with how the integration turned out. 99% of what she says while running through the park is on point and works. There were some repetitions that I removed today (e.g. turned on the 'say once' option) because some stuff is no longer relevant after visiting a location twice. Other than that.. so far so good. Ivy 5.0 and Ivy in Nuka World is looking and working great! (Edit: Dry Rock Gulch was a bitch to figure out. The bot kept stopping and the scene wasn't working. Turns out the reason was pretty nasty. Because Ivy is now part of the scene and the actor flag 'stop scene on combat' was on AND because there is combat at the beginning of this scene, it never properly runs as it's stopped before the player can speak to the robot. I'll now turn off that actor property in the scene and hopefully that will fix it. If worst comes to worst I'll have to restore the original scene in Fo4Edit and retry to integrate Ivy from scratch in that particular quest). (Edit2: I don't know why but as soon as I change anything in the Dry Rock Gulch quest the entire quest breaks. Just adding the regular companion actor in any scene already breaks it. I think they're doing something in the scripts to make this scene work that I can't get a handle on yet. I've cleaned the entire quest in Fo4Edit then it runs fine. So I'll restore my version then I'll search for differences in Fo4Edit to see if I can figure out if anything is wrong there. If I can't find anything I'll do it differently, and won't integrate Ivy into the dialogue and scenes, but will opt for more idles depending on quest stage.) 5

I think they are filling the Alias for the robot sheriff using some kind of forced way. The alias is called Forced Sheriff and it's not filled as soon as Ivy is part of the scene. They are likely using a Leveled bot to make it look different every playthrough and I think the crux is in that part. But nothing in the scripts points to that so far. There must be a master/controller quest somewhere that forces this reference. I'm not really looking forward to hacking so deep into this quest just to have Ivy say 1 or 2 lines in between so I might just give up on this particular quest. I've started a process of elimination. I restored the original quest and it then runs fine. I've now only added the companion alias and I'll test the quest. Then if it runs I know it wasn't the alias, then I'll go from there one piece at a time to see what exactly breaks the quest. (edit 1) Alright. So I added the companion alias and the quest still works. So far so good. I'll now try to hack some dialogue for Ivy into the scenes. (edit 2) YAY! Got it to work! Not sure what I did differently this time around. But it's finally working. 3
Reginald_001 Posted November 9, 2019 Author Posted November 9, 2019 Development Update Made a BOO-BOO! It's an error the kind that needs me to restart Nuka World. Ivy's main Nuka World quest is finding Holotapes left by Dr. Stein. In order for the quest and story to progress in the right order, you need to find these holotapes in the right order. I placed them randomly through Nuka World and didn't realize that players could easily find tapes out of order. A pretty stupid oversight on my part as I'm usually smart enough to think of such stuff in advance. Anyway I managed to break her quest by finding the holotapes out of order, so I'll need to restart that quest entirely after making it so that holotapes are hidden and unhidden as you find them throughout the park. So yeah.. that kinda sucks, need to replay all of that Nuka World stuff... again. (Edit: OK. I made a proper test quest to see which setup would work best. I'll now implement the same trick into Ivy's quest. Then I'll replay Nuka World in a quick run through to where I am now.) 4

Can you to wait spawn the holotapes in until the player has picked up the previous one? And then enters an area that is part of the random fields and places the next, thus triggering the next phase (quest marker?) In that way the player can't get them out of order, but they might have to go to areas they have already been to again. I don't know if you kept/saw this part (I liked it ?) Ivy goes to Nuka World Video saw a typo @ 7:41 part2 "Wait... is he talking about me? Hey look at me asshole!" 1

The holotapes are placed throughout Nuka, but shouldn't appear before the others are read (there's a story specific reason to this I won't say). In any case. I've made refaliases to all tapes of type Forced to all placed holotapes in the world, then I set 'Allow Disabled' to true. Then I simply call a 'TryToEnable' on all holotapes as you pick up the next and the next, etc.. Works like a charm. 13 minutes ago, kchurchjr said: As Far as I am aware, @ChicGeek is still MIA.
