Technical Support

So it's not working as expected? Don't despair! We're here to help.

Post in this thread if you are in need of technical support with the mod.

Attached you will find the documentation for Ivy 5.0.

You can find this same documentation in game, in the NX-2C Controller Holotape.

Do not hesitate to ask any questions, should you have them!

Ivy's Affinity Quests

- HyperCombat!

Kicks off after speaking with Ivy and Ivy has engaged an enemy in combat more than 20 times.

- Into the Deep
Needs a minimum player level of 17. Kicks off several affinity levels after establishing a deeper love relationship with Ivy. (Affinity = 46. PL > 17)

- Robotic Assimilation
Kicks off once you reach affinity level 60+ with Ivy and speaking with Ivy.

- Ivy Goes to NukaWorld

Kicks off after finishing Into the Deep and Robotic Assimilation, and after NukaWorld has been unlocked (e.g. the NukaWorld radio signal can be found)

- Processing Power! (short quest)

Kicks off after Ivy has asked you for a spare secondary backup processor for over 10 times.

- Nice Rack!

Kicks off after picking up more than 20 magazines with Ivy in the vicinity.

How to recruit Ivy in a few minutes:

Introduction

Welcome to Companion Ivy 6.0!

Ivy was created with the greatest of care and dedication.
Over 4 years of development time went into creating a rich and full backstory that fits in the world and in the story line of Fallout. While she may at first glance appear to be a mindless sex puppet, she is far more than that!

Her 'mind' was created using real life psychological models, exploring childhood trauma, nihilism, existentialism and other psychological phenomenon. She draws upon a rich history of psychology as taught by Freud, Carl Jung and many other renowned clinical psychologists around the world. But next to that, she is also sexy as hell and delivers powerful lines with a comic punch that will make you smile, smirk, or cry every time she surprises you with a new line of dialogue as you travel the wasteland together.

Her psychological profile was created from three distinct personalities, which you as player will come to meet as you travel with her and get to know her better. Each personality fights for its own place within Ivy, making her a unique individual and one that is consistent in the world, based on real life psychological principles.

Always remember when talking to Ivy that she likes to use metaphors!

Ivy is a so called 'Prime Companion'.
You could also describe it as a 'Gold' companion.. what does this mean? It basically means she has a shitload of content. Much, much more than regular companions have and perhaps... maybe even the most content of any custom companion for any Bethesda game to date (the jury is still out on that one). At the time of writing all of her dialogue in all of her base mod and add-ons count for nearly 9500 lines of dialogue. But the current base mod has around 7000 lines of dialogue. In comparison, the player character has 12000 lines!

This means that she is meant to be used as a SINGLE FOLLOWER and has about as much content as a regular DLC sized add-on as released by Bethesda.

Ivy comes with many special functions, multiple quests (in new locations) and thousands of lines of dialogue, unique for each situation, location and quest. Her radio station offers trailers, music, news and weather reports. She comes with add-ons, DLC and other extras.

Consider Ivy to be a game-long quest.

Ivy needs a NEW GAME.

Meaning you, walking out of the vault, and recruiting her directly, to run with you through the game.

She was not designed to be recruited in a later/high level save. It will result losing a lot of content that's important. Her quests and affinity are designed to be built up from the moment you leave the Vault. This is an important distinction between regular followers. Ivy is like a long running quest, not a follower to fill the troupe of other followers with. If that's your thing, Ivy is not for you!

- You CAN dismiss her at any time to recruit other followers to get their perks.

- You CAN run with other companions and even use AFT. But you will lose support (see the AFT fact sheet in the spoiler below).

- Installing Ivy will not interfere technically with other custom companions, unless they overwrite vanilla assets and/or vanilla quests.

WARNING: Using Ivy with multi follower mods will result in lack of functionality for Ivy.
Ivy allows you to travel with Dogmeat as a secondary companion if you use a suitable mod to enable that functionality.

03 - Dialogue.txt

04 - Service Menu.txt

05 - Affinity.txt

05a - Affinty - Flirting & Arousal.txt

06 - Teleportation.txt

07 - Combat & HyperCombat.txt

Hyper Combat Attack Moves

Electric - Ivy teleports to combat target and drops an electric / flash grenade.

Forcepush - Ivy teleports to combat target and uses a concussive grenade, pushing combatants away.

Telefrag - Ivy teleports to combat target and re-emerges inside of them, thereby eviscerating them.

Grenade - Ivy teleports to combat target and drops a random type grenade.

Frenzy - Ivy teleports to combat target and whispers into their ear, making them frenzy.

FreeBird - Ivy does NOT teleport to the combat target. Instead she teleports them 500 meters up into the air so they free fall to their death.

DeathAbove - Dito as FreeBird.

Headpop - Ivy teleports random limbs from the body of the combatant.

Overkill - Ivy becomes panicked. Time slows down and she teleports towards up to 7 different combatants at a time, killing them all through telefrag attacks.

AWKR / Keyword mods

- If incompatibilities found, prefer AWKR in your load order (e.g. make sure it's loaded AFTER Ivy)

START ME UP / ALTERNATIVE START MODS

- Should work fine with 6.0, but you might miss some of Ivy's content during the initial quests.

How will affect her Outcast And Remnants, Project Valkyrie and Depravity?

- Ivy will work well with all of those mods, but you might lose any of her quest related content for quests that are skipped. None of these affect her affinity for you or the outcome of her own storyline. My advice is to 'try the artist vision' with a clean playthrough just with Ivy, then play her and integrate into any mod you'd like.

SCANNING

- Ivy sometimes SCANS too often. If it's bothering you, open the console and adjust the SCAN frequency:

Open the console, type 'set _ivy_scan_frequency' to 100 (disables her scanning)

Setting it to 0 makes her scan ALWAYS, so don't do that lol.

You can set it to 99 to only make her scan every so often.

See the Advanced Gameplay Guide below for more information on Ivy's Global Variables.

@mudhutwarrior  As far as "stuck" you can try to teleport her to you, open console, click on her and type "kill" for bleed out ( I ALWAYS feel bad when I do this) or even console, click on her "disable". Close console and "enable" this is all assuming your not using "no-no" mods

Hair, I'm not sure.

Hey Reg, me again!

So after much testing, the only companion mod that doesn't cause stuttering on teleport is the Noble team companions. I unpacked the BA2's in that mod and noticed that there is Facegen data for each of the companions. Does Ivy come with Facegen data? perhaps that may be the culprit?

Could you upload an optional file the FaceGen data? I am unfamiliar with how to do that myself :(

Facegen data is made upon model 3D load then stored locally on your disk. This is a one time occurrence, unless you SLM the character in the meantime. I highly doubt your stuttering has to do with this. But here's mine for Ivy:

Meshes.7z

What clothes mods are you using for the companions? The issue is that your game glitches when they 'pop/teleport/warp in' right?

Reggy!!! I also agree I doubt its FaceGen. Going back to the ONE mod that was working, Noble team spartan mod, Kat from that mod was wearing a Vault 111 suit from the beginning of the game. No stutters/glitches when she warped for the half dozen hours I played with her while she wore the vault suit. I then equipped an armor from a mod (crimsonrider's Amazonian Princess) on her, and I started getting the glitches/stutters when she would pop/teleport/warp. Furthermore, I contacted the mod author of the spartan noble team mod, Kelcan, and he told me that the followers in that mod lacked FaceGen, all but confirming that this problem is endemic to my game, NOT ivy or any other companion mod, and unrelated to FaceGen.

So it must be a clothing mod issue? But I'm stumped. my computer is very powerful, I have huge NPC battles without stutter/FPS drops, and my Vault 111 suit has enhanced textures, so I doubt my game is lagging from the polygon/texture size of the armor/clothing. I always install 2K textures, I do not have any armor/clothing mods at 4K. I tried about half a dozen different armor/clothing mods, such as Crimsonrider's Amazonian Princess and NovaFinch's Mjolnir Spartan armor. All caused momentary glitches/stutter when Kat would teleport.

I ran around with Gage from Nuka World DLC using his vanilla clothing and I didn't get any single solitary stutter/glitch when he pop/teleport/warped. I have not tested gage with modded armor yet, but this test does further substantiate the notion that it is a clothing mod issue.

I will test Ivy with a vault 111 suit and report my findings!

Im putting my load order in the spoiler section. Thank you for keeping up with me on this. I suspect it may have something to do with CBP but I really don't know. Im using a slightly modified CBBE Slim preset, which I made myself by moving some sliders around.

I am EXTREMELY happy to report that Ivy WORKS perfectly... So long as she wears the blessed Vault 111 Jumpsuit. There are NO stutters/glitches when she pop/teleport/warps in.

If she wears her default clothing and teleports, she stutters. If she even is naked and she teleports, she stutters. This problem, as I've mentioned above, is not specific to Ivy, but to ALL (female) companions in my game, regardless of whether they are vanilla or modded. I haven't tested male companions with modded armor just yet.

After additional testing, I can put on armor/accessories/clothing that fits on top of the vault 111 suit, and everything works perfectly, Example are helmets, leather leg pieces, and coats from mods like CROSS-Brotherhood Recon.

Also, regarding the FaceGen you mentioned above, once an NPC is spawned from a settler mod that adds in new faces, it will generate FaceGen just once for that NPC and will never have to do it again? So there is no performance cost to mods that add new settler faces without FaceGen. such as Beautiful Female settlers (https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/9111)?

Thanks for a great mod! Quick question - Ivy has lost her gun for some reason. I followed your steps using the console commands, however she still won't equip it. I even tried a player.additem to then trade to her, although her gun did not show up in my inventory (even though it stated it was added upon closing the console). No biggy, but thought I should mention it.

@Jahtoris in the Ivy Holotape you can force equipe her gun. Have you tried that?

Hey that worked great! Thanks! I missed that feature

Can you enable the papyrus log. Play 1 short session, until you encounter the stutter, then stop the game and ship the papyruslog here as attachment? I might see something there.

Hey Reg,

I did the test with papyrus log! I'll be attaching it at the bottom.

Unrelated to the issue, I did notice a lot of error's in the papyrus log when starting the game concerning creation club stuff, is that normal? Do you see anything in the logs that could be problematic?

I did a quick start via Start Me Up. I spent the first half of the session with a follower who wore a modded piece of clothing, and the second half of the session with the follower wearing the vault 114 jumpsuit. I got stutters when the follower wore modded clothing, I did not get stutters when the companion only wore the vault 114 jumpsuit. Could this be an issue with CBBE?

Also, modded weapons do NOT cause problems. Seems to only be with armor/clothing.

Further testing; Tried vanilla rose dress, and had no performance issues. Going out on a limb, it seems vanilla clothing has no problem whatsoever. It's squarely with modded armor/clothing.

Thank you for your time and work. I really appreciate your willingness to help me!

This mod is most likely responsible for your lag. It's completely filling up your script stack with a recursive function breaking your game.

Either one of two things happened:

- You deinstalled that mod halfway in your save game, thus the save game lost references to all these objects (RULE: NEVER DE-INSTALL OR DISABLE ANY MOD IN A SAVE GAME you want to keep using). Once a mod is IN a savegame, it should stay forever IN that savegame.

OR:

- That mod has become corrupted, corrupting your save game.

In both cases: Deinstall that mod and.. --so sorry to say this-- this has broken ANY save you were using with this mod.

I think this might be the mod responsible: https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/34426 (But that's only due to the quest naming and mod variable naming. 'Both Warlike'.)

(Edit: Before you ask, reinstalling it would compound the problem. The old scripts would continue to run in the background, with the newer ones added on top).

All that I can say is WOW!!! This has been the best companion mod of all. I’m 48 hours into a playthrough and just work dog meat have only had a single issue. At one point, Icy quit following me, and I think it was due to the large number of settlers around her. I left the area, and teleported her to me, and all was well. Now, if an update happened to have a quest to update her to a sexier voice, like Gray garden robot...

Hey Reg,

Unfortunately, uninstalling Warlike and starting a new game didn't fix the problem insofar as clothing mods causing stuttering when worn by followers. Any other idea on how I can get the clothing mods to work? At this point I'm willing to just run around with Ivy with a vault suit, but it seems very weird that clothing can destabilize the game.

I still get those creation club errors on my papyrus log even I start a new playthrough. Is that normal, any idea on a fix?

@kchurchjr

Here is my load order. Reg was right that Warlike was overloading game with scripts which didn't cause the original error per se, took that out and replaced it with a couple of other mods that should be less intrusive hopefully (endless warfare, random encounter manager, combat stalkers).

To reiterate the problem: companions stutter when wearing non-vanilla clothing. If they're equipped with a vault suit for example, there are ZERO performance issues. I even have enhanced textures on the vault suit, and the modded clothing is not more than 2k so it is NOT a hardware issue.

Pertaining to the unrelated issue I was getting from CC mods with errors in the papyrus log, I converted three of the big creation club mods into ESP's from ESL's because LOOT was telling me that the formID's were beyond the range of ESL for those three CC mods. Hopefully that fixes the weird papyrus log's I get with those CC mods.

Thank you for your willingness to help kchurchjr and Reginald_001

@mrdesiballer262 (after the @ click on the name to ping them) Aside from some sorting I don't see anything too bad in you LO... Ivy should be as close to last in LO as possible, I load her just before my "Naughty Mods" (when I have them installed) as far as limitation I agree it is not your rig, But a limitation with in the Game's engine. As i've told Client's IRL, "I dont care if you have a sports car, if you drive in the neighborhood, you're never getting out of 2nd gear"

(a LOOSE example)

Are they all active? do you have merges? is so What is merged?

Also, feel free to join us on Discord https://discord.gg/vyTvJYd

@kchurchjr   lol got it! Yeah I might join yall on discord, sorry for filling up this message board. I do not have any mods merged. I try to keep a relatively light foot print on my mods, most are weapon and armor mods and other things that aren't intrusive.

Ivy quest and magazine plugins are just above my AAF mods, but Ivy is also an ESM so I can't move that particular plugin around too much.

You mentioned sorting, do you have any recommendations on what I should move around?

As for the clothing situation, do you think it could be related to CBBE or BodySlide? I keep almost all of my mods packed into BA2's. Should I leave armor mods loose files?

Gonna respond to each point in order

You're all good, *Check board title* this is Tech support so post away! I wasn't subtly telling you to shut up ?

There's just alot of us on discord and with all the different time zones we can respond in near real time

I meant the esps. my naughty mods and ivy are at the very bottom of my LO

I use this guide as a LOOSE idea of install order and load order

Loose files will bog down game  engine and load times, I use BSA when ever I can. As far as clothing... Do you have the vanilla CBBE clothes? if so have you built the meshes? I didn't see Cbbe Physics (Not required, just curious) I also use https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/20105 with bodyslide. What outfits are they wearing that causes the stutter? I know Vault suit is safe, is it any other vanilla outfit that cool or just modded ones?

Just a question from curiosity, here. I know the 5.2 version is likely to add the ability to have Dogmeat, Ivy and ONE other companion (at a time).

Some companions are more 'intrusive' than others. E.G. Charlotte the Silent  https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/10 who fires up at Vault 111.

I'm not particularly wanting to use that mod, but I'd be interested to know the 'limits' of the additional companion when Reginald's Follower Framework arrives!

Thanks!

The mutli Companion mod is no longer part of Ivy, But it's own separate project btw, for doggo I just use "Everyone's Best Friend"

Like Heather Charlotte uses her own framework and doesn't take up the Companion slot.

I am a tad autistic (high Asperger) so I do need instructions that are kind of boiler plate. Apologies for this!  ?

Therefore I could run Ivy, Dogmeat, and one or more companions simultaneously so long as those other companions did not run on the vanilla system, and have entirely their own companionship package?  Rendering AFT unnecessary and avoiding Ivy / AFT issues?

Thank you for your patience.

No worries, You don't owe anyone apology nor an explanation.

Part of my job is client education and I encourage them to ask as many times as it Takes to understand the answer. I will never get mad at an individual who hasn't understood because I didn't explain it correctly.

No mod - Ivy uses tha vanilla slot. Dogmeat uses the Vanilla slot. No Companion mod it's one or the other

Reg's Mod - Ivy + 1 Vanilla Companion. Like Dogmeat, Nick or Piper.

Custom slots with Reg'g Mod - Ivy  + 1 Vanilla Companion. Example Heather (She has her own custom slot and you can run with Ivy and Heather without a companion mod)

Reg's Mod - NOT part of Ivy but going to be a separate stand alone mod APART from Ivy

Hope that clears it up.
