This is an optional download, but there are tons of them.

Question... which one is the correct download for Ivy.

You may need to put some info on the correct version to download, on the main page. In the section with the optional downloads...

I've just installed the latest update, that makes her into a sex robot. It's a brilliant idea...

It's the 10 colors standalone black brows. (second option)

I'll update the post in the next upload to prevent people from thinking I've uploaded a new version after I edited the main post.

Thanks for the feedback!

3.0 shouldn't be hard to get working. On a clean save it's only a matter of unpack and be done with it.

After playing with Ivy for a couple of days I feel she needs a lot more combat dialog. After a while I'm hearing repeats and it's bothering me so I'll dedicate the evening to adding 100 extra lines related to combat dialogue. I'm removing the 'One batch, two batch penny and a dime' line.

I've spent my afternoon debugging her radiant quests and finally found one minor mistake in my code which stopped the radiant quest counter from counting, never triggering a quest. (!!! Quest.IsRunning() is NOT reliable !!!) After switching the script condition to look at my own stage counter global variable this now works perfectly. After 20 'chats' Ivy asks for righteous revenge on some mid-level raider somewhere.

I'll expect to release these fixes very soon (v3.1)

No new game will be needed for this 'patch'.

Do you have a workaround for the quest updating.  I'm hesitant to play much more if doing so isn't going to be furthering her quest(s) along.  Still one of the best follower mods since Sophia.

The radiant quests aren't important for Ivy in that there's some kind of quest there. Every other 2 weeks or so, she will ask you to kill a raider somewhere.

The origin quest for Ivy is a far larger project that I'm working on but this has not been released yet.

So do enjoy Ivy!

Thank you indeed. I was unsure as to what had been implemented or was simply planned yet. I just did not want to miss out on anything (as I did in the early versions of the aforementioned Sophia) then wait a year or so before getting around to starting a new game.

Well done, no less.

Love it when she draws close like this:

I've been working hard on a hugging animation. I'm getting along but I'm not there yet. I've created a new AI package for her to stand closer to the player, much like this in the screenshot, during dialogue. I'm hoping this will work, fingers crossed! Now if only I could find an animator to help me with the hugging anims....

I've been experimenting with applying compression to Ivy's voice. It makes her pretty impressive and her voice sounds more like a radio DJ but it can be a bit much... Perhaps eventually I'll just add the effect lightly, to push up any muffled words or sounds, it can make her sound just a tad clearer here and there (which is why there's so much compression on radio voices). It adds a lot to her robotic feeling though, making her sound more like a real robot/synth than just any other speechsynth... so eventually her voice will get a bit of compression or some other effect to make her slightly more alien/robotic without it sounding annoying or in the way, and especially without taking away some of the huge charm in her voice.

No idea if this mod could be a source of inspiration, but it looks interesting enough that I'll give it a shot at some point on a new game.

Interesting. I don't know about voice compression. Does that mean a sort of diaphragm pressure? Like really pushing on your gut to simulate a forced syllabic vocal effect. Or is it like constricting the windpipe to allow less air and more sound to travel through the voicebox? Or maybe none of these? lol.

I am using it currently with some pretty hilarious effects. However CDante acknowleges there are some bugs that need sorting such as losing the setting you chose when in a slow-down effect when in VATS or under the influence of some drugs, etc. The slider allows you fine-tune voice modulating pretty well, although if you're like me, you have to try being silly with it as well. Albert the Chipmunk or Darth Vader under water, you know, shit like that.

In the meantime Nora is giving me look...wonder if Dogmeat will share his doghouse with me.

I know that mod. I can add a sound output model for Ivy and do the same, using the internal processors of F04 to do the audio calculations. It would offer flexibility as users could change her voice on the fly. But that added CPU for all of that, plus the fact that a proper VST audio effect will have much better end results leads me to going the 'audio' route. Being an audio-engineer by trait, it's right up my street.

Compression takes softer tones and wavelengths and adds dynamic volume to audio. Maybe a quote will help me explain:

Quote

Compression is the process of lessening the dynamic range between the loudest and quietest parts of an audio signal. This is done by boosting the quieter signals and attenuating the louder signals.

So... Basically it makes the soft parts of a voice (or any sound) louder and the loud parts softer.

In this case I use a VTS plugin to change the recorded audio.

(edit) Attached two audio samples. I'd like some input on which one you guys prefer.

Original:

With audio compression added (note: Audio compression is in no way related to File Compression and has nothing to do with file size compression algorithms).

To my ears, there seems to be some crunching to the beginning of "A" and "I" in both samples, but it seems much more pronounced in the compressed form. This may be an audio artifact from your original TTS processing and/or earlier attempts at boosting her overall volume may have compounded the issue. It's hard to say as this is only one sample of thousands.

The compressed form is quieter. Since, Ivy is already on the lower end as far as dialogue amplitude, boosting her overall output even more would really make those crunches pop, and not in a good way.

EDIT: There's also a noticeable hiss in the compressed form.

If you're tallying a vote, mine is for the former (original/non-compressed).

FWIW, I listen to game audio on a 2017 Alienware running Sound Blaster Recon 3Di using a Sony MDR-XB450 headset. No tinny'ness. Only full dynamic audio for my ears.

I'm listening on these, but that's a bit unfair as I double my gaming system with a full fledged audio studio. :open_mouth:

There's definitive cracking and popping in the TTS, which is limited at 22khz to begin with. (I couldn't afford the 'pro' version @44khz).

Personally I think the compressed one introduces both a bit of noise and some extra cracking, but it makes her much snappier in game, less washed away in the other sounds. It just 'mixes' a bit better with the rest. But as the batch process of creating compressed versions takes over 2.5hrs, I'm not likely to repeat the process.

(ps: For each release I do a non-evasive volume normalization to -6db, based on the peak volume value of each wav. For some wavs that have glitches in the original TTS file in certain word combinations this means they get pushed a bit down in volume compared to other sentences. This can very rarely cause a volume difference when Ivy has longer topics (e.g. 5-12 sentences). I will need to use some kind of intelligent volume normalization and click/plop remover for the final release. As it's multiple VST's chained together in a batch, I expect I should start the batch in the morning before I go to work, then check on progress when I come home 9 hours later.. :open_mouth: )

Wow, learn something new every day! Cheers for the explanation and the sample files.

I tried both voice samples using three different headphones (believe it or not, the cheap ass Turtle Beaches sounded the best beating out Sennhauser and Bose to me for her voice. WTF?) I too picked up a noitceable background hissing from sample #2, although vocal clarity seemed to be more pronounced in that same sample. Tones are much warmer and more rich with the orignal to my ears. Original seems more analog while ver. 2 sounds more digital. Sort of the difference in playback between CDs and a turntable.

Thinking I would have to agree with Dominus and cast a vote for the original.

Yea, it's a real toss up. I do agree with @figarodlc's assessment that the compressed form does sound a lot warmer (analog). We may just have to suffer with the hiss unless you, @Reginald_001, go all way back to the beginning of the line to produce the cleanest TTS forms you can. Garbage in, garbage out, yea?

Honestly, bro, I'd push it to the back burner for now. Your method works, and Ivy sounds great for 99% of the gameplay. I'd devote that time and energy to other parts of Ivy you have planned and want to implement like the hugging thing and more "content-based" features like her mythology quest(s) and that new exterior cell you've been teasing us with.

Off-topic~

Those are some monster monitors, mang! I love those. I blew out my Behringers, hence, why I'm on my Sony cans. Well, that and my FO4 is too smexy for kids' ears.

Yeah one of my best friends was over and wanted to see Ivy. I'd told him about her vaguely, not telling about the sexy parts...

But I couldn't load up my game, cause y'know.. Ivy..

As this was just a quick test for compression with a free VST, I'll see if I can use the BT Brickwall processor, or even better, PSP Vintage Warmer.

In any case I'll do this 'last' on the list...

Funny you should mention that. One of my gaming friends from WT was asking why I was spending so much time playing FO4 of late. I told him, "Ivy". He says, "Ivy, WTF is that?". I told him all about Ivy. He's never played a stitch of FO4 in his life. He does now. Haven't seen him on WT for a fortnight now.

I get the feeling you have created a lot of bloody monsters out there Reginald! :open_mouth:

ps ...and I'm one of them!

Just downloaded this mod yesterday and Ivy is great. Might put my beloved Cait, Curie, and Piper for her (sorry ladies).

On the voice samples like the Original one better. Used Bose headphones, some dollar store earbuds, and some standard Apple earbuds.

hey greetings, I do not know if you remember me, I found the mod that gave me problems in HalluciGen, Inc. the mod was Tactical Distraction System, now the mod is fantastical, thanks (by the way, what is the name of the song heard on the radio Ivy)

I love the W.I.V.S. radio station, it fits pretty well with the theme of the game. Is there a list of songs/trailers used anywhere?

I took all trailers from the facebook page 'The vault of retro sci-fi 2.0'...

Go to youtube, search for 'vintage porn music' and the first hit should be a long list of royalty free porn music from the 70's.

That is great to hear! I'll download that mod to see if I can find anything that could cause an issue with Ivy!

See my reply above this quote for the music.

I'm really happy you came back for this feedback, it definitely helps me a lot!

Thank you for creating and sharing this great character. She's definitely my favorite companion of all. I was wondering if there are any plans for Ivy to be able to actually live above ground in sanctuary like everyone else who lives there. I've had her with me since installing her and when dismissing her for the first time this morning, I felt bad she was only able to go back into the cellar. Even if she doesn't interact with the other settlers, it'd still be great to see her out and about, walking around Sanctuary and interacting with the settlement and the things in it. I noticed she asks about finding spare parts and such for her. Maybe a quest where the player is able to find some to give to her for repairs. Thank you again for all the time and imagination you've put into creating this masterpiece.
