IF you can use it.

I can't make heads or tails of it, and the tutorial that comes with it doesn't help either.

Well... It's supposed to be really simple... It is actually a little awkward at first because of the steps you have to clear before it actually loads

First, set up a profile, exactly like a ton of other utility programs, with the path to your skyrim. If you use MO, the path is to your base skyrim install, not the MO data. If you use MO, you need to run it from MO as a tool. For NMM, you can just run it.

Pick that profile and then it will ask you what modules to load. Just load ALL OF THEM. Tick everything. It's harmless. But...

Sometimes it won't let you "OK", and it's greyed out.

That's because you have a merge in the list. Might be your Bashed Patch, or your Smashed Patch.

So, untick any mods that show up dark red, and you should be able to hit OK and get past this screen.

Note that when you add new mods, later, they will be unticked by default.

In any case, this screen doesn't merge anything, doesn't change your Skyrim, so no harm in just picking everything - it just takes longer to load the main program after. You can speed things up by picking less, but can also create problems. It's safest to pick everything you can.

So, now Merge Plugins should actually load, and you should have a left pane with all your mods, and a right pane with ... nothing ... it shows the details of the mod you click on.

Click on one, and it will show you useful things.

You can now create a new merge, and decide what should go into it.

The "Flags" column tells you what kind of data is in the mod, you might not care if you know what you want to merge already.

Click on the "Merges" tab and then the right click menu in the left pane will let you make a new merge.

Give it a name, and an ESP name.

Merge method should almost always be "Overrides". Only use "New records" if you know what it's for.

Leave renumbering as "conflicting", it will probably be fine. Basically, just stick with the defaults.

Then click back on the "Plugins" tab, and you can right click mods and assign them to your merge (or to one of your merges, if you make several).

The big hammer icon will build any merges that need building. Hopefully no problems.

If you have errors, there's a guided process to resolve. If it doesn't work, probably you are merging something that is going to be trouble anyway - don't merge the problem mod.

The reports thing is mostly irrelevant; I don't really trust the user reports much, and I think they are pretty much meaningless. Some mod might get a red flag because one person had a problem. Reports aren't on total merge combinations, just on source mods, so if you want to read them, take with a pinch of salt. Something will get a warning flag because somebody doesn't get that you can't change object IDs in a running game and expect it to still work. Not a problem with the mod, but with the user.

And on that point ... if you want it to work safely, do not merge mid-game. Make your merges and start a new game. If any forms get renumbered mid-playthrough, it could break your game just like removing a mod mid-play, possibly even cause CTD if there are scripts on that form. Obviously, you can ignore this in some cases where you know exactly what you're doing, but as a general tip, treat a merge like a new mod - you can't swap mod X for mod Y mid-play and expect it all to be fine.

I can't really get very far because I keep getting this error message saying "List Index out of bounds (3)" when trying to set things up according to the video.

THIS is why I have this mod on my shit list.

And any all errors will cause it to not to merge, even if you select the ignore errors for the plugins, it will seem to do so but if you check the merge later it will be missing various amounts of stuff from the mods with errors.

Depending on what the error is though it is pretty easy to sort out for armour and weapons mods anyway, 9 times out of ten if you are getting out of order records on items check to see if the mod has update.esm as a master file if it does not add it, that will most times sort those sort of errors out.

Uh... actually a bit too modern looking for my taste, but too good to ignore. ;)

Its pretty simple to mod the texture to look more skyrim~ish... just add brown all over it.

That being said, I really like these types of outfits as they're few and far between (esp with this level of quality and BS).

So its nice to come home and wear some comfy and familiar yet unique clothes.

its really easy to create/change outfit colours

this took me not even 2 min

I agree it is easy to change colors I have sorta experimented with doing that.

To confirm though, what you did in Nifscope to change the colors was

In shaders, changing the colors there?

Or something else?

And is there a way to import textures so if you mashup outfits you can prior also match textures and colors via Nifscope?

I use photoshop to change colours.

then to get them in game theres 2 ways

1st - overwriting the originals

2nd - creating new items in the .esp

i use a mix of the 2 depending on how lazy i am.

For some reason, this is the only mod that is making my game crash. I honestly can't tell if it's causing a conflict with another Santa outfit that I have installed. Can someone else report that the Santa Baby is causing their game to crash? It's odd because every other outfit that Melodic has out there has not crashed for me so far.
