It's the method used in jcontainers sse and I know that works.

It looks like I managed to wipe out my updated esm and esp files, I was sure I'd moved my updated copies into the folder structure so the ones in the rar are the originals. I've also left my dev copy of the dll in - it's places a lot more stuff into the log file than it should.

Latest versions installed, I compile under vc140 which happens to be listed as v14.11.25325.0 vs2017 - only have vs2015 installed but they should be compatible.

ok, this is weird and annoying, I'm getting ctd in Morning wood shop when it was working previously, I spent 5 minutes in the place. I've even loaded the auto save from when I entered the place and it's instant ctd. Ok, now it's ctd at random :frown:

I even clean installed - still ctd. I've spent all day playing and now all of sudden it wants to random ctd.

edit2: bleary eyed at nearly 4am I get it working again by reinstalling fnis 7.2 standard not xxl. Moring wood shop has no ctd, and Bjorn Longwood walked past me with no issues. Times like this I really hate Skyrim.

You mentioned you changed DataHandler * data = *((DataHandler**)0x012E2CB8). Could you pls tell me why? It was working before.

I remembered why I changed it and why I switched it.

When I attempted to use DataHandler * data = *((DataHandler**)0x01943b0); I was getting a ctd. The original code from the 32bit skse in gamedata.cpp is

DataHandler * DataHandler::GetSingleton()
{
    return *((DataHandler **)0x012E2CB8);
}

But the new code skse64 does it like this,

DataHandler* DataHandler::GetSingleton()
{
    return *(g_dataHandler.GetPtr());
}

So I used that line instead.  The LoadModInfo  where it's used should check each mod by a reference number of 0 to 255 and not put anything in the log if it doesn't find anything. I've tried using DataHandler::GetSingleton(); but got a ctd.

I've attached a cleaned copy of the full project, that should allow you to compile it completely. But the ctd are back when - only thing I've added recently is fnis 7.2 and ks hairdos new esp so I'll try rolling them back. - Didn't work still crash when bjorn is around. Checked my last log and the last line is

[03/11/2018 - 02:38:54PM] [CF][Creature Apply] Not activating ["Bjorn LongSword" [Actor < (BA004924)>]]; creature isn't registered; race=["Nord" [Race <NordRace (00013746)>]] skin=["" [Armor < (00000D64)>]]

As soon as Bjorn appears - ctd.

I still get crashes on save and in Morning Wood shop, even if I recompile the DLL from your project...

You have quite a long mod list, what files from SoS are overwritten by other mods? Can you try with only SkyUI, SoS and XPMSSE in your load order?

I've tried moving it around the load order but the morning wood shop and Bjorn seem to be borked. I'll try to find a clean save I can use for testing on a limited selection but for now I'd rather throw the lot at it as I know without sos my game is stable. slow at times but stable.

I'm not sure what the hell is wrong with the shop as I've played when Bjorn is around previously and I've been in the shop without issue but right now it's ctd when Bjorn is in the vicinity, for instance my character was in the pub entertaining the patrons ;), he entered and cyd. I've also a save of Riverwood where I know he's on the bridge heading towards the shop but again as I approached I could see him for about a second and then ctd and the last time I got a bluescreen as well so lost the log files. So I'd suggest not using the shop at all. I even went as far as removing sos, deleting my skse file and starting from scratch still got a ctd with Bjorn.

Put it this way, my character entertained every male in the courtyard in Solitude then I moved her to Riverwood, saved and again entertained every male I could find in and on the way to the pub all by using the Dibella Wreath from sisterhood of Dibella (yeah it does work if you extract the bsa), waited 2 hrs to try and get Bjorn to appear and within 2 seconds ctd of his arrival.

tbh it's not the first time I've seen a nif / esp cause a ctd as there's an armor in skyrim that works but when loaded in SE optimized or not is an instant ctd. At a guess I'd say it's his head as I think he uses the default body and the only unique part is the head, might switch it with another from a follower that I know works ok.

So for now disabled Morning wood shop which also removes Bjorn as he appears to the only character with the problem. The only other thing could be the new AMD graphics card driver I installed this week.

I also got the weird log that you had, it looks like a threading issue with two trying to write to the log at the same time. I've turned on the Control Flow Guard in the C/C++ options and it seemed a little more stable and no corruption in the level 5 log. I also added a few extra messages to show when code starts and ends. It might slow some things down but I'd rather have that than an instability.

As for file overwrites, I don't use the sos skeletons or the feet as the ones I generated didn't work correctly as during sexlab scenes you'd get a flat panel appear at certain angles that eventually caused a ctd, other than that SOS overwrites the body, head, hands and textures of everything else.

Ok, loaded the file nifoptimized 00002886.nif in sse nifscope and it's definitely not right, his neck appears to coming out of the top of his head. Loading the original unoptimized version and looks fine, got up close so provided you overwrite the head you should be able to load the shop.

As a test I put the original unoptimized version of his head back and no ctd. The nif optimizer is screwing it up so don't optmize it.

I've attached it for those who don't want to download the original, it needs placing in

'<steam folder>\Skyrim Special Edition\Data\Meshes\Actors\Character\FaceGenData\FaceGeom\SOS - Shop.esp'

It explains why I could run for weeks without an issue, I usually run unoptimised mods and only use nif optimizer when required, that must have been the same here but when I reinstalled I used a version that I had optmized ready for release.

The neck crashing through the skull is a NifSkope display issue, not an optimizer issue.

Either way, it fixed the ctd when Bjorn is around. I can enter the shop when Bjorn is in there and no ctd when encountering him when he isn't.

I'd also expect a slight change in the size of the nif after it's optimized but in this case it drops from 215k to 179k which is far more than I'd normally expect especially for a head.

I've optmized other character heads before and not seen this issue and the original doesn't display the problem when loaded pre optimization in either version of nifscope.

The only way to really check would be load the shop into the CK and try to render Bjorns head, if it crashes then it's the optimized nif file.

edit: doesn't crash the ck but it does crash the game. I've a save with Bjorn standing right in front of me, old nif = no problem but new nif = ctd

This a Special Edition port of the Schlongs of Skyrim mod. Credit goes to the initial authors VectorPlexus, Smurf and b3lisario. See original thread here.

Important:

  • this is an alpha build, quite unstabe at this point; do not use for regular gameplay
  • tested very lightly using console commands, probably has many bugs

How to use:

  • installation/uninstallation/usage/troubleshooting should be identical to the original mod, see the thread here.

Known issues:

  • saving (manually or auto-save) causes a crash; the SKSE co-save is incomplete (as it seems SKSE crashes before writing out the complete file) and the ess file is not saved at all
  • with a save from an interior cell, SoS causes a crash after activation
  • if the shop option is installed (Morning Wood in Riverwood), the merchant's inventory is empty and some SoS related items that were supposed to be on shelves behind the counter are missing
  • + many other

A big "thank you" goes to Akzyra for pointing me in the right direction regarding some code. For a short demo of SoS working in SSE see here.

Until the mod works properly, if you'd like to be a tester see the development thread here. If any of the issues described above seem familiar to you or you might have an idea how to fix them, please let us know.

out of pure honesty its pretty unstable because i test the difference from this and the light SE this one crashes even when starting a new game. so far once it loads after the meshes and textures it CTD's %100.

I've already confirmed that myself. It's something to do with the SKSE setup and script base functions from the original mod. They may have to be rewritten. Some people have gotten it to work, but unfortunately, we'll have to wait for an update to see if the author wants to fix the issues and see if they can find out what is causing the crash.

This is bait, right? "WIP", "alpha", "unstable", "do not use for regular gameplay", "known issues: crashes".... Which of these exactly is not clear to you? How is your post helping? You have only one post, you made an account just for this?

I tend to agree with DykkenTomb, the instability is most likely caused by scripts or SKSE. With my DLL or pugwash99's one, I still get the same behaviour and to me it's a bit of a mystery why it works for him (or her?). The fact that the log file contains garbled text (for both of us, it seems) tells me his DLL is not exactly 100% kosher, it does things (like reading memory addresses) it shouldn't. Even if it works for the moment it's quite possible it will stop doing so at some point. And no one else confirmed his DLL works without CTDs which presumably means he's the only lucky one?

I did go through the scripts and for the most part they look ok, there are some things I don't understand though as noted here. And let's not forget that SKSE64 itself is in an alpha state and unstable at this point.

I'll try to run the game with a debugger attached, maybe when it crashes I can get a meaningful stack trace which will pinpoint exactly where the problem is.

pugwash99, can you please let me know if your game still works with only SkyUI, SoS SE and XPMSSE in your mod list? Nothing else, not even FNIS, just these 3. And using the NIFs, BSAs, ESMs/ESPs or PEX files from Oldrim is just plain asking for troubles down the line. The mod should work with all of the assets converted to Skyrim SE.

Ok, disabled all the other mods, left the unofficial patch in though.

Started a new game, got through the cart scene then just as I was getting out of the cart - ctd. skse saved but not the skyrim one. The sos level 5 log file is showing corruption in the mod names.

During every save it checks the name of mods by looking them up in the index of 0 - 255. It would be better to use the call that returns the actual number of mods loaded. I'll check the code tomorrow night.

I'm wondering if it's because I do have so many mods loaded that's allowing the code to work.

edit:  sod it, made the change so that it looks up the number of currently loaded mods and only get's the names of those.

This time, loading the clean save - no ctd and no corruption in the log file.  The LoadModInfo routine now looks like this.

void LoadModInfo()
	{
		_VMESSAGE("\nloading mod info");
		DataHandler * data = DataHandler::GetSingleton();
		UInt8 modCount = data->modList.loadedMods.count;

		for (int i = 0; i < 256; i++) {
			CurrentMods[i] = "";
		}

		for (int i = 0; i < modCount; i++){
			const char * name;
			if (data->modList.loadedMods[i]){
				name = data->modList.loadedMods[i]->name;
				_DMESSAGE("  %02X (%03i): %s", i, i, name);
			}
			else{
				name = "";
			}
			CurrentMods[i] = name;
		}

	}

Yes, that new Dll you uploaded worked like a charm. I'm no longer crashing. I'm able to run around full Schlong without any issues. I'll keep testing the mod to see if I find any more issues.

Very nice, seems like you figured out the cause for the crash!! Did some very quick testing, no more crashes on save. The SKSE co-save file looks a bit bloated though, there's a lot of "nomod" in there (255 - # of mods you actually have, I would guess) and the names of mods appear twice. Without SoS this doesn't happen, and it would be nice to make sure we prevent save bloat and potential problems down the line. I'll look through the code this evening (if you don't beat me to it :smile:)

The routine can be stripped down a litte more as half of the if statement isn't used anymore. It was close to 3am and sadly I had to be at work at 9am so I wasn't in the mood to keep going.

The bloat is caused by the string[256] arrays but that's a hold over from Oldrim. SKSE 32bit / Oldrim must return a null object for a list element that doesn't exist but the new one obviously ignores the list length and reads the memory anyway and it explains why you were crashing and I wasn't my mod list was so big it wasn't getting far enough into the memory structures to cause an issue. SOS was written in the days before .esl files which can go beyond the 255 limit which should be enough for most but my Oldrim until recently was withstanding a load of 250. That issue might bite a few mods on the arse later on as the number of mods that release using esl's increase.

On loading a save it reads from the game into one list and from the skse co-save into the other. One approach I thought of is to use structures that can be increased in size at runtime instead of fixed length arrays to get rid of the limit entirely. If this was .Net or Java I'd just use a List<string>, you can add or remove at anytime with a single line of code but it looks like the only option would be a std::vector<string> But it's not a straight swap. Adding .net support to the dll would allow it but it could also cause more problems.

The simpler choice would be to increase the size of the arrays but would increase the memory usage and the bloat in the save or add an extra variable for each list to keep a log of the records and only save that many.

I did some quick tests using std::vector<string> and the bloat went away but adding or removing ESPs from the load order after a save cause infinite loading or CTD. I'm pretty sure I missed something (empty strings checks, stuff like that) but while I was tinkering with it I was wondering if it's indeed worth the effort. Having a fixed number of elements in an array saves a lot of headache when having to read or write from/into it. I didn't give up completely on the whole idea tho, uncapped load orders is nice to have.

And I also noticed the SoS shop is borked. It has nothing to do with the DLL, the ESP is the problem. I'm looking into it as well.

Version 0.2 alpha has been uploaded, the major changes being fixing the CTDs on save/load and fixing the SoS shop. See the download page here.

I guess the next step would be trying to remove the hard-coded limit for the number of ESPs. Even though it's not really necessary, more like a nice-to-have thing. It doesn't seem to be very easy though, so I was wondering if we should provide an option in the FOMOD installer for those who want more than 256 ESPs/ESMs...

pugwash99, I did recompile the DLL with all the changes you suggested but mine turned out to be different than yours by a few KB. It seems functionally identical though, I spent one full night trying to make it crash and I couldn't. Is yours a release or debug build?

And for the 256 limit... Getting rid of it and removing the co-save bloat is easy if the number of loaded ESPs doesn't change during a complete playthrough. But if mods are added or removed from the load order, what's saved in the co-save doesn't match with what the plug-in expects and that leads to infinite loading screens. We would have to re-write the functions for loading and saving so that they can deal with an unknown number of ESMs and at the same time read correctly all the SoS related data from the co-save. Doesn't sound too easy, what do you think?

I've been following this thread religiously, gotta have real schlongs back. I haven't done extensive testing (maybe an hour of running about and zapping everyone in sight with matchmaker), but so far everything seems to work perfectly.

Installed SOS, allowed tempered skin to overwrite SOS and also let XPMSE overwrite the skeleton. Guys look great and there were no deformation issues in any animation I saw.

I don't use the shop so no testing there.

I have it this way right now, hope it works

sos full (base layer)

tempered skins part 1 (both mesh and textures (mesh are for armor)

tempered skins part 2 (textures only)

xpmsse (everything)

Yeah, that's exactly what packages I installed, in that order (well, d&d'd in MO2 that is)

Damn I didn't notice the feet... I guess I was too busy looking at schlongs ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Guys don't forget to save and load as much as possible, plus adding and removing mods/ESPs from the load order just to make sure the plug-in works correctly and won't cause issues down the line.

Edit: oh wait, the feet issues appears if using Tempered Skin, SoS feet are ok...

When I enabled the Control Flow Guard option it increased by a few kb for me, so a difference in size if probably not an issue,  the build I uploaded is a release.

I think the 256 limit should be ok but I'd suggest put a warning in about it, if anyone gets to the point where they're getting close to 255 they should be expecting issues anyway. One option would be to add the length of the array before writing the string array into the save and then during a load read it back, it would need a clean save and it could cause incompatibility with other mods possibly it's own scripts if they're assuming 256 as well. Probably worth looking at in a future update, I'd keep as is for now.

I've also had the loin cloth issue but so far only with Bjorn from the shop, removed it with the console. Might be an activation issue as I think the it uses a forced equip much like the 'More Nasty Critters'. Similar to when you can't get a follower to wear the outfit you want without removing all their default stuff first.

I first encountered the feet during a sexlab scene and got some weird texture glitches when rotating around the scene, I have another mod - 'Total Character Makeover v1.2' installed of which I don't overwrite the feet. Either it's a texture issue, I overwrite with the sos textures, or another one where the optimized nif files are causing the problem.

The feet issue is a texture issue indeed, the UVs of the feet mesh don't line up correctly if using texture maps from other mods. Not sure what would be the best way to fix this, since it's not a problem introduced by SoS and different people use different mods/textures.

I thought of that as well, but what happens when that control number written in a save and the number of loaded ESMs differ due to adding and removing mods? The plug-in would read either too much or too little - that goes both for the ESMs list and for the SoS data in the co-save, which would most likely make that save unusable. We could add a control string at the end of the ESM list and read until we reach it, with the implication that what follows after is SoS data. But yes I agree, for now let's leave it the way it is.
