Celeb talks shit about Trump, doesn't feel too well - dies. Many such cases.

ok...

Am i the only person in the world who does not give a shit about celebrities?

I feel bad at the human level, but honestly aside from "oh thats a shame" i really dont care.

RIP i guess or whatever.

No, not really. But that's because the mainstream media has been a self-absorb toilet bowl of ego-stroking. Much like the social media outlet fanatics who presume everyone should care about what socks they are wearing everyday and runs off to post images so the world can see because that's real news in their eyes.

This is just one of the reasons why the internet is popular in a good way. I stay away from television and the fake news and watch youtubers like Mark Dice who put out the real news.

But regardless, RIP Carrie Fisher because she was a far better actress than most of today's so called actors.

No, I don't "give a shit" about celebrities, as I don't know any of them close enough personally. Yet, it breaks my heart when we lose someone who were a part of our common culture and our memories, which make us who we are. It's not really a personal loss, but it sort of is. I felt bad on the day Carl Sagan died, I will feel bad when we lose John Williams, for the same reason.

Oh damn... No, not everyone should care about celebrities. Most people dont even know them. Nevertheless it's sad for those close to her and also for a lot of people for whom her work actually meant something.

On this user's side, it's sad because her work meant something for me.

I grew up watching Star Wars. I kept on living and that fantasy world still exists and is one of the things that makes me who I am. Playing games and being a modder etc... is a whole pack of "being a nerd"

In a certain way, Princess Leia is a character that could inspire and teach people stuff along their lives, and be a part of them unlike so many other forgettable characters among the endless pile of movies in existance

She meant something for a lot of people besides only her close ones, and that's why it kind of hits some of us too.

Safe journey and good night, sweet princess...

Holy shit me too, as in I'm 50 and can't fucking figure out where the years went.

I was 11 and clearly remember my awe and emotional joy at the opening of A new hope in 1977. I fell in love for the very first time, got my very first boner too - as did many other boys (and some girls) - with Princess Leia. My first love is gone and it makes me feel quite sad.

Funny how nobody actually cares about the person, just that she was Princess Leia. If only Leia hadn't appear in that shitty new Star Wars she would have lived forever in memory as one of the sexiest princesses ever.

I liked her in the The Force Awakens as well as the original three films. I also appreciated her honest and frank discussions about and efforts to increase awareness of mental illness - depression and bipolar disorder. I didn't know her on a personal level, but she did affect me on a personal level, so for that reason she will be missed.

These are the reasons that people feel some sadness when certain celebrities die. Most often, the celebrities whose passing I mourn are musicians or authors, but there are a few actors and directors whose work I appreciate enough to feel sad when/if they die.

If a famous person hasn't affected you personally or you don't appreciate their work, then it makes sense not to care if they die. Many famous people who have had little to no impact on my life have died and I don't mourn.

On the other hand, if someone whose life has had a great affect on you dies and you feel nothing, then you may have some sociopathic tendencies.

R.I.P.

May the Force be with her and her mother as well...

yes, people die all the time, but we commiserate more on people who are close to us or if not that close, those people who we know to a certain degree through being celebrities, a common friend etc.

maybe that's why most people feel more moved for a celebrity death than the thousands dying in wars and hunger who only show up as statistics in a spreadsheet...unless journalists cover them...

She didn't die, she merely returned to the oneness of all, the single consciousness from which we all spring for a time, to collect experiences and explore the nature of existence and one day to finally return and be re-integrated into the whole along with what we have collected.  We are all one and the same being.
