I'm considering skipping the sneak animations.  I'm having the hardest time making them.  And they have bogged down my animation production drastically.  Any thoughts?

Skip for now, I never use sneaking anyways. Also, I am curious if sex animations would work with this the horse ones and SOS and devourment? Any thoughts on this?

Fore and I discussed this some back several posts ago.  I don't use sex animations(I know, what?  I'm on LL and don't use them).  While I have nothing against them, I just don't mess with it.  So, if it's possible to do them with the centaur, someone else will have to work on it.  I will warn, if you don't follow Fore's instructions, you won't be able to use fnis on the centaurs.  Just keep that in mind.

You could always argue that centaurs cant sneak because they are too heavy....perhaps make an animation that makes them go even quicker instead?

That is an interesting idea, but not sure how to work that into the sneak system.  Right now, what I've done for the 4 sneak animations I've made is that the horse is sitting on it's rear and the front legs are leaning forward.  What I'd like to do for the movement part would be to make something similar to a dog creeping along the floor.  But again, I am a very poor animator, it's currently proving beyond my skills.  So, I'm going to make the one other sneak animation I can make and go onto the next in line.  It'll be about 4 animations in the 1h animations I won't be making.  Still, it will be an impressive amount of animations done when the alpha releases.

no i can't, all of my adult animations are SLAL based, and SLAL animations need FNIS to run.

so unless someone makes a "FNIS Centaur Pack" (and adds the Centaur race to SLAL and SexLab and/or MNC) all i can do (in theory) is make a Masturbation* replacer for a preexisting idle animation (assuming there are any idle animations that can be replaced)

 

*i don't know if that can even be done with wishnot4's male Centaur bodys:

I don't know anything about sex animations, so I can't say.  But I'm curious(and only curious) why would it be impossible to animate the females? I agree, it is awful early to be trying to speculate about sexifying the centaurs.  I do have them fully functioning, but there is tons and tons of animations to make and then I still need to go in and fix the ragdoll so it doesn't act like a deflating balloon.  Also, I have to remove the horse rider option.  And really, so many more things to do.  That's why it is going to be an alpha release.

Oh, man. If we could just get that kind of taurs for Skyrim, I would be really happy  :P. Even if we don't get any kind of sex anims, though those would be a nice plus as well.

Yeah, you are probably right. The only way I could think of for them to be able to have some "solo fun" would be to use their tails, but I guess that would only apply to canine or feline taurs and the like if/when they are done. Pretty sure a regular horse tail can't be used like that  :s.

 

Now, let's get serious about the technical aspect of the mod. If I got fore's posts right, this mod will be incompatible with FNIS when it is released. Not "can't add new anims" but rather "using FNIS will break centaurs". That presents quite the problem.

 

But, fore then offered to make the mod compatible with FNIS (so it can be used alongside FNIS without breaking) and also to add FNIS support to the centaurs as a creature race (which I guess would mean the functionality would be limited when compared with the standard playable races but would still allow adding more anims to them).

 

Am I right about this? Does it mean that once this mod reaches a certain point in development, we will be able to use it alongside FNIS without issues? As I said, while SL anims for the centaurs would be awesome, I can live without them, but the FNIS incompatibility would be a total deal-breaker for me (and I'm sure for many other people as well). I wouldn't want this project to be less successful than it should due to some technical issues, specially considering how much work and effort has gone (and is still going) into it.

FNIS will only mess up the centaurs if it is directed at them specifically.  So, it shouldn't be a problem if you are using FNIS(hasn't caused me any issues, and I use FNIS).  But as you said, fore does have a work around and who knows what the community will be able to come up with once I've got this out there.  I'll have to talk to the Havok expert over on skywind, but I think that you can actually add animations to the Havok project, it just won't be as simple as FNIS.

You are using FNIS while you develop your centaur? That can't be. Or it would almost be a bug in FNIS. :)

 

We are both changing animation*datasinglefile.txt, right? So FNIS WILL overwrite those whenever you run it.

 

At least when you have mods that add paired animations, killmoves, motion driven animations, and animations that rely on file caching (like in PCEA2, Sexy Move, PCEA, Gender, Flying mods) I'm changing at least one of those files. And since I have to assume that existing files have been created by an earlier FNIS run, I always delete them. At least that was the intent. And I know I DO delete old behavior filöes for the same reason.

 

 

I'll have to talk to the Havok expert over on skywind, but I think that you can actually add animations to the Havok project, it just won't be as simple as FNIS.

 

 

Sure it's possible. But you always have to modify the behavior files in order to add animations. That's what FNIS is doing, and Skywind as well.

 

The difference between Skywind and the centaur: Skywind modifies their behavior files for good. They don't plan to have their creatures being modified by others. You do. At least that's what I think is discussed here. :)

 

And even worse: if you talk about adding animations you implicitely assume that multiple animators will add their content. Which means that ALL of them will modify the SAME centaur behavior files. 

 

AND: modify the SAME animation*datasinglefile.txt that FNIS is replacing/removing (at least under certain conditions).

 

That can't work.

Okay, I'll be honest, I don't understand most of what you talk about in this stuff.  I didn't really understand most of the skywind guys stuff either.  I am not a coder, I am not a graphics designer.  In fact, I never did anything modding wise until 2 years ago.  I didn't even know what modding was much longer before that.  I am winging this stuff as I go.  Now, no, I haven't run FNIS since I started the centaur project, but I had run it, and I have been testing the mod in saves that have PCEA2 installed.  And the centaurs are working fine(as well as the PCEA2).  Maybe it is because I haven't run FNIS since I started or maybe it is the way I implemented them or who knows.  But the skywind guy said that FNIS would only affect the mod if it was directed at the centaurs.  Now, I may have misunderstood him, I have on many occasions had to go over what he says to me multiple times to get it.

 

What I'm saying about the animations is, I'm only personally interested in making the centaurs work in game as a playable race.  That is it. Nothing more, nothing less.  If someone wants to use the centaurs to make some kind of sex version, more power to them.  That is the beauty of this community, the endless creativity.  And I have waaaaay to many projects going to try to worry about it.

the problem is this thread is in the adult modding section of the forums (i know, its not your fault) and we all have a one track mind over here: "FUCK ANYTHING THAT MOVES"

 

i fully agree that the sex stuff should not be your problem. i am interested in seeing what other race mods could come out of this one in the future (Eg: Dwarven Centaur, Xenomorph Centaur and other crazy stuff)

Some people may want to publish their mods on other sites and not being associated with those kind of stuff in general (no PR/reputation nightmeres). Making new race work is big enough achievement. On side note, LL is the only website with people who knows how to add new animations to game, so every modder would come here to learn.

Oh, it works.  I've tested it on a few different computers and it works.  It's just that it needs a ton of custom animations and I'm only one person.  I'm still hopeful that we can get an alpha release out by the end of the month so people can see how it works. I've even started working on a tutorial on how to make a custom skeleton and Havok project.  But with the number of projects I am currently working on, it is slow going.
