no. coding sucks.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MticYPfFRp8

I was going to say "No, it doesn't" and expose my arguments for a while. Then, I listened to the video and I had a good laugh :) Then I remembered that I spent the last day struggling with a build stack, and I got sad a little.

Coding is fun though. Just do things as you want, and try not to aim for the best result but rather for either the easiest or the funniest. It's not like anyone will care if your Papyrus code takes 5 seconds to execute, especially if that's the first version. Just ask someone to fix it later if you don't enjoy coding.

And, to answer the original question. Yes, absolutely. Fallout 4 modding scene is starting to integrate really powerful tools and concepts into new mods, and I wouldn't be surprised if (after F4SE is stabilized) we have mods that do things Skyrim modders could only dream of. Or not, I actually don't care as long as the stuff here is good :P

Coding is fun when it goes your way. Otherwise it makes you want to take out the cyanide pills lol

I've done some very simple (or at least I'm guessing it's very simple compared to other stuff that's out there, I don't know) coding in RPG maker editing or modifying a game, and yeah, this, lol.

It can be strangely addicting though.. if that makes any kind of sense.

It's not the worst though, when you code, you have to deal mostly with your own code and problems, although not always. I am a support developer.

I have no part in the creation process or the design choice of the product. Meaning that I'm basically debugging the code of others people (that usually don't care about maintainability, readability and sometime common sense. I could write a book on that...) to correct issues based on vague explanations and tiny screenshot (generally the window containing the exact same message they so faithfully copied in their issue description). That's an overlooked but hellish job were you code less but take the full consequence of what was said in the video...

So there really is a need for FO4 FNIS? Considering all that should be provided in the FO4 CK, then why aren't there much more (sex) animation mods available after one year of FO4? Just 3 meager AP animations is all?

Um, is this a trick question?

:lol:

Of course we need FNIS, and of course more animations should've been done by now.

A much more easier method may be to somehow port FO3 stuff to FO4......

;)

I highly doubt porting anything animation related from FO3 to FO4 would be possible or easy. Maybe Skyrim to FO4 but even that has problems from what I understand.

I think the main problem is the weird legal status and availability of the HCT. Only a few people grabbed the version needed for FO4 before it went down, and that had to done in Skyrim times.

There's proof of concept for the basic functions though:

Dave's Poses adds new idles and stuff to trigger them. AP did it too, though it made my brain hurt to try to get what the hell he pulled with the Ck to make that work.

There are some porn animations in the download section.

Positions can be set by console, so i guess scripts could handle that too.

Dynamic scenes and animation staging would need F4SE though. (If that can't be done via dialogue scripts, they seem to be able to run idles.)

SexTec is supposed to be a framework though, i guess people want to make it thoroughly so no one has to patch their stuff to make it work with newer versions...

I've done the same for about a year, and I could write a book about it as well. And since stupidity is infinite, I have little doubt that we'd still manage to fill our books with totally different anecdotes.

Conclusion: programmers are mere humans too. Asking them to code faster gives one of only two possible results. Either the program gets released prematurely and full of bugs, or the programmers lock themselves away and finish it as originally planned, but won't tell you until a week after they're done and got tired of playing CoD.

Yeah but that's not taking into account that a big part of our workforce is another company in asia:

They far from beeing bad, but our superior asks for improbable deadline dictated by the marketing and try to keep the price as low as possible.

Since they're totally uninvolved in how the application is working later, their concern is only finishing on time what is little more than a bug infested tech demo. Not that I blame them though it's already a wonder they can work so fast...

Regardless, the end result is that QC is botched it's pushed as fast as possible in production...

I would say I like my work better than coding because there is more investigation than base work, but sometime I would love to bash the clients AND our coders, just for a few more information from each side...

There is a recurrent thing that I cannot stand anymore though... I hope no coders here will recognize their code:

try {
  <insert whatever risky code>
} catch( Exception $e ) {
  unset($e);
}

You would have guess it's php (I mostly work on website these day), but I also see it in one form or another in every language we are using except for c since there are no try catch in c

Lets be honest here. Do we really want them to waste focus when fallout VR comes out next summer. Which Sextech do you want? Sextech? or Sextech VR? (I'm sure all of the above, but I'm really wanting this in native VR)

ps... you guys are going to do that right? This is definitely gonna need to happen. I'd do it myself but I have too much going on to go back to school and study programming...

sidenote: Anyone know a good way to build a holder for... certain things... that can easily be set to rough locations of things for VR? This is important. xD

... I think we need to add a "animation speed" output to sextech. Like to send the animation pacing to external applications. I may not be able to do programming but I know how to work with mechanical stuff... *grin* We need something to feed speeds. A number setting for each animation would work.

Just remember not everyone has VR headset, we still want a standard sextech. Do I want sextech VR yes. do I have a headset, no.

I really really hope the mods for the flat game will work for the VR version. That said, we don't know for sure if it will be moddable at all or if there will be a script extender made for it.

So far we know the game is going to be first person only. This changes the way the player character's involvement will feel like. I guess you are a fan of the POV porn but the VR systems are far from been able to provide any way of correctly tracking the actual player's body in order to create a POV experience. So I expect the sex scenes involving the player to be quite boring and confusing.

On the other hand NPC sex would be way more interesting and voyeuristic as FO4VR will be a room-scale game with positional tracking. This means the player can walk around the NPCs and look at them from every direction and angle they want.

i was pondering concept of stupidity as physical construct and came to conclusion that einstein was wrong; stupidity is not infinite (nothing is) also technically do not exist. in my view when people say "stupid" they actually mean lack of or poor creative input constrain (unless they just think its stupid  even though its not cause they themselves are too stupid). in other words its bad or lack of code/machine to execute certain task. even if one defines stupidity as emptiness/lack, emptiness is not infinite; its the opposite/nothing.

as for second paragraph if i recall, there was a study which implied that capacity to solve complex problems is much better without external coercion. once u put reward/threat system in place performance goes to shit. intrinsic motivation could work well for coders assuming it was even possible and there was no employer/worker conflict of interest relation in our  (supposedly) glorious competeteive economy where everybody should/is assumed to try to fuck over everybody else. or maybe thats my commie crazy talk. that study could be fudged after all.

Thankfully Fallout 4 is more advanced in nearly every aspect of development then Skyrim 64 It looks far better ,has a far more advanced lighting system, plays better, has a superior script engine and so SexTec will take a little longer then Sexlab! So what else you say about community flop is not backed up by the almost 16000 mods on N in a little over a year! That is even before F4SE is finished so lurk somewhere else perhaps!

Saved game and BodySlide presets are NOT "mods". And they make up the bulk of your "almost 16,000".

The fact is, FO4 has immensely dampened the desire to build anything of substance. I'd much rather they'd released a game with substance than the piece of shit we got. Married, voiced, parental protagonist, with a predefined role, and an ultra linear "in your face" MQ every step of the way..... it's like Bethesda TRIED to do everything you should NEVER do when making an open world, free-form RPG. And that's before you even get into the retarded shit..... like companions. Why in fucks sake do I need to build a whole fucking quest to make a simple companion? In Skyrim, you could build a fucking army in less time than it takes to make a single FO4 follower.

Simply put, when you break all the rules of open world RPG gaming, your game isn't really an RPG at all. It's just another "on rails" game that ends up on a shelf after the second or third play-through. That said, it's no wonder many of the well known modders don't want to be bothered with FO4. And I can't blame them. I built a shitload of mods for Skyrim. But here I am, struggling to focus on the one I'm currently working on. But when it's done, it will likely be the LAST I ever build for this game if things don't get better soon.

Anyway, I've ranted enough. Let's see if I can bring myself to get a couple things done in the CK.....

Although I get your feeling about fallout 4, Trykz, I don't agree with the this is not an rpg part...

Open world is a sub-genre not a game type. A on rail rpg with some token choice is still an rpg. Otherwise, without even talking about console rpg, you would mean that most (emphasis on most) rpg starting from the dos era. The eye of the beholder, the lands of lore series, most of the early d&d game are not rpg most dungeon crawler are still rpg. And if you look closely, a lot of rpg did set you in a role, they did not allow straying too far.

On the other hand take a look at the previous entries in the series:

Fallout 1    : Vault dweller - care only about saving his/her vault - no mariage/romance option

Fallout 2    : Tribal - care only about saving his/her tribe - 1 mariage option (depending on gender) forced if you pick the choices

Fallout 3    : Vault dweller - Finding Daaaaadyyyyy (hated the story line) - No real romance (bittercup is more a joke romance than anything) but I guess you could go to prostitutes

Fallout NV : Courrier, almost blank state (it's the only one that would fit with your rpg definition) - Companion romance

Fallout 4    : Widow, Finding baaaabyyyy (hate the story line too) - Romance is polyamory... Let's face it that means we won't need to do a mod for having that.

In the end story wise i find 3 and 4 story line pretty much uninteresting. And as far as story goes the "anomaly" is new vegas.

As for the modding:

I remember fallout 3 to have mostly the same issues about creating custom content at first. Sure it was less and people had oblivion has a previous experience but I remember modders raving about how they broke everything in gunblivion

Then come the first big overhaul with skyrim: Ha! they broke everything by stopping us for using custom anims. But the adaptation of nvse helped speed things up.

Then come an even bigger overhaul with fallout 4 and what people have been raving about for ages 64bits. Suddenly the main force of modding is set back a lot, because of the heavy change. Namely what most evolved mod relied on? F4SE.

Thing is for the modding to go more smoothly, SKEE should have came out before it's kind of the missing link and could teach us a lot about f4 modding...

To sum up, there is a steep learning curve to learning about modding fallout even if you have previous experience due to the changes. Previous methods are not available anymore or not working the same. Everything has to be remade from scratch and it's hell. And now that they've been diverting a lot of modder to skee it will be even longer.

As for the story it was never the strong point of bethesda games, they were always bland, and without much interest. Or like in this case put road blocks. It's not new and won't change.

It's no big surprise that the only one that really work with me story wise was not written by beth team, right? But hey obsidian was occupied by other projects (probably tyranny)

I couldn't care less and it definitely is no loss to me if Fallout 4 haters block me or think I am rude for sticking up for the game! As for anyone else who somehow think that Skyrim had all of these great mods before SKSE then think again!

(1) There is nothing worse about the storyline of this game then any other game, it's just a matter of personal opinion whether you like it or hate it!

(2) What the hell is wrong with a voiced main character, other game developers have been doing it for ages, no longer do I have to call may char a fucking mute like in Skyrim!

(3) Why on earth do you feel the need for companions in this game, they sucked in Skyrim and unless there programmed intuitively into a game then they always will!

(4) I,m not quite sure what you mean by mods built with substance! Perhaps you need to take another look at the top mods for Skyrim some of them are already here for Fallout 4, others will be when we have a proper working F4SE and most of the others aren't really required!

Sorry CPU this is my last rant!

Sorry CPU this is my last rant!

(1) The problem with the storyline is singular.... you CANNOT escape it. Generally speaking, I don't "hate" it. But I would like it much better if I could somehow choose to ignore it for subsequent play-throughs. But you simply can't. Need proof? Get out of the vault and ignore Sanctuary, Codsworth, and bypass Preston completely. Now go explore. And try finding things to do that don't set you right back onto the MQ's path. Go save Valentine..... he'll set you back onto the MQ. Try finding The Railroad or BoS for some non-MQ side quests..... nope. They kick you right back onto that proverbial rail. In Skyrim, if you ignore Riverwood and head straight to Whiterun, nobody knows anything about The Greybeards. It's not until you return to Riverwood that you can continue on the MQ..... yet you can still join The Companions, The Thieves Guild, AND The Dark Brotherhood..... AND do their quests!

(2) Hmm.... where to begin? Okay, how about my very Asian character sounding like a white chick? Or my Afro-American toon? Or my Hispanic looking girl? Same white chick voice invading my dialogue every time. It immensely detracts from the "roleplay" element..... I'd rather imagine the voice in my head. Which is why I play with voices turned completely down. Which sucks, because I can't hear NPCs either (unless I load the player voice folder up with empty sound files)..... but at least I don't have to hear my Asian girl's white chick voice......

(3) Companions are a popular staple of these games..... TONS of people like and want them. They shouldn't require half a day to make. Enough said.....

(4) Substance is what drives the game into various directions through story, gameplay mechanics, and player choices. The choices you make impact the immediate and long term outcomes to the story during gameplay. No matter what choices you make in FO4, you're left with the same single choice:

Destroy or take over The institute. There is simply NO option to "fail" the main quest completely (yes, Skyrim suffered this problem as well). And by fail, I mean "oops, you chose poorly. And now you can't continue down this path. Go back and try another"..... Oh no, it's "here's your four choices. Keep clicking until you pick the one I like!" Oh..... goody  :s

All that aside, I still don't "hate" the game. I simply think it needs a LOT of work. Because it certainly has the potential to be a really great game, IF it can hold the attention of modders who are capable of giving it the content it needs to really shine. And not just sex mods. But as of right now, I'm having a hard time seeing it garnering that much attention due to these glaring issues.

At the end of the day, you're content to overlook things that I am not. Or perhaps you're not as critically attentive. And that's fine. My post wasn't intent on making you hate the game..... just to point out that perhaps after more than a year out from release, we should be seeing a LOT more than saved games and BodySlide presets plastered all over Nexus as "mods".....
