heehatatt Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 So i found a slight issue. Sasha, the follower from Cursed Loot has the "I am a character in a dark tale.." dialogue option. That should only happen if you have this mod installed but do not select one of this mod's starting scenarios. Every NPC in the game will have that option. Did you select anything from "I am a character in a dark tale" from the Mara statue, or did you select something else? Just select it once, but do not select any starting scenarios, and it should go away permanently. It happened on my main save game, after I installed the mod. That's unfortunate, but expected. Sorry about that... this hacky workaround was the only way I could think of to fix the issue with no start dialogue showing up. I dunno... maybe I should put back the original check... it seemed to work for a few versions, maybe the Elder Gods have gotten all their kicks and are willing to let it slide again... Oh its really no problem, as my npc dialogues are flooded with talos knows what anyhow. I just thought this issue might've been oversight and hence wanted to inform you.
heehatatt Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 I could rationalize why the Nord Queen could be of non Nord origin. She could still be replenished from Nord essence and not be Nord herself. As long as there is a gender check, no need to add a race check. I guess there's nothing anywhere that says Draugr had to be Nords. I mean, do we really know if the ancient Nords were as racist as the modern ones? This is off topic but, ancient Nords were as racist if not more racist. Ancient Nords took away the Reach from the Forsworn, as one example. That however pales in comparison to "The Return" when Ysgramor returned to Tamriel with the companions, after the Night of Tears. Once Ysgramor retook Saarthal he split up his 500 companions and they went on to wage a war of genocide against all Elves of Tamriel, settling it as they killed off the Elves. In fact if you play through Dawnguard I'm pretty sure it'll be referenced somewhere that the Nords forced the Snow Elves to seek "refuge" with the Dwemer.
Content Consumer Posted April 21, 2016 Author Posted April 21, 2016 Ancient Nords took away the Reach from the Forsworn, as one example. The timeline of that always bothered me a little. I'm certainly no expert on the background and lore, so I might be getting this wrong, but... The Nords were supposed to be the very first men to arrive in Tamriel, right? Before the Redguards from Yokuda even, IIRC, during the Merethic. Bretons (as we understand the Forsworn to be composed of at least a majority of Bretons) are the result of centuries of intermingling between Ayleids (or mer, I should say) and their subjugated populations of men (and I seem to remember reading Nords specifically, but don't quote me on that). Even the Cyrodiils are descended from the Nords from Atmora. So there are centuries, at the very least, between the Nords arriving in Skyrim and the Bretons coming to control the area of the Reach. I'm not sure the Nords took the Reach away from the Forsworn as much as they took it back from the Forsworn. But like I say, I'm not an expert on the history of the world, so I could be missing a couple of steps.
expertgamer Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 Ancient Nord Queen doesn't work. Journal says the the quest is completed and instead starts the SLStories quest which is gathering the amulet.

Journal says the the quest is completed and instead starts the SLStories quest which is gathering the amulet. So... what's not working? EDIT: Wait, I think I get it. The quest autocompleting is supposed to happen. The starting quest will shut itself down immediately (you should only get one entry, something like "seek out youth and beauty" or something like that) and then it should complete automatically, starting the SL Stories quest. This is true for all starts here that send to SL Stories or any other external mod.

There will be more added to all of the SL Stories scenarios. Skyrimll is out of town for the next two weeks, but then it'll come as time permits. The starts and mod events that are there now are placeholders for more content that will be added in the future.
Guest Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 For those of you who do get the Mara dialogue but the starts just aren't happening (i.e. sleep in bed, screen fades to black, then you're still there in the starting cell), here are my thoughts on possible load order issues. None of these are guarantees, and in fact some of them are pretty far out there. ... Scent of Sex could be causing this issue. ... Tried you mod on my config (light), and both are working just fine. Just keep in mind that I do not alter any kind of dialogues, except when an actor is involved in one of my quests, and my mod is in active state. When an actor is involved in a SSX scene, then its voice type is replaced to another one until the scene ends.

Yeah, I was basically just tossing any mod that could possibly have something to do with actors and dialogue at the wall there. I haven't tried Scent of Sex yet, so I was just guessing (and the others too). I don't know what's causing the issue, though I have the suspicion that it's because I accidentally forgot to flip the esp/esm bit on LAL at one point. I don't mean to say that any mod is responsible... and if anyone turns off a specific mod and that makes it work, even then I can't guarantee that mod did anything, or if it was just a little shift in the load order that suddenly made it work. I should probably go back and edit that post...

But like I say, I'm not an expert on the history of the world, so I could be missing a couple of steps. I'm not a lore nord either, but I imagine there are a couple layers of "ownership" involved. Historical homes as you mention, with nords being there first because nords were first... then there is the extremely recent. Skyrim was Nord territory about 100 years ago. Then the Elf war happened and the Imperial army withdrew and somewhere it says "imperial attention was directed elsewhere, allowing the natives their chance " and I forget the rest. Essentially the Reachmen pulled a coup and over ran Markarth, then were overcome themselves primarily due to Ulfric's use of the voice. While the forsworn are treated quite poorly today due to the Silver-blood family, I wonder what things were like 50 years ago. Somewhere I read that the Reach coup was rather bloody, and that is one reason why it was put down as harshly as it was. I always feel a little sorry for the guy in Cidna mine who left his daughter behind, but he's fully guilty now, and she's working for one of linchpin guys, and probably knows fully well what she's doing. The guy that gets you started on the quest line mentions having a pregnant wife, and I think she's the one that greets you in the Treasure house, so I make sure I save her if I go through there. The gold digging wife on the other hand...
Content Consumer Posted April 22, 2016 Author Posted April 22, 2016 [snip] [snip] I wonder what things were like 50 years ago. "The Forsworn follow the old ways, but some of those were best forgotten. Blood sacrifices, communing with Daedra." Communing with Daedra isn't necessarily evil, anymore than communing with Aedra is necessarily good. However, I'd say the "blood sacrifices" thing carries some pretty negative connotations with it.
DeepBlueFrog Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 It is also possible that Nords being the first is just a claim to make themselves look important. How many cultures on Earth are calling themselves the first people?
Content Consumer Posted April 22, 2016 Author Posted April 22, 2016 It is also possible that Nords being the first is just a claim to make themselves look important. How many cultures on Earth are calling themselves the first people? All of them? I remember reading somewhere (don't quote me on this) that every language's word for themselves (i.e. "human" for example) when translated into the original language means "the people." In Skyrim terms, take the word "Mer" for example. Mer means Elf, but only in these modern days. Mer used to mean "People" or colloquially translated as "folk." Aldmer, for example, means "First Folk" or "First People." Falmer means Snow People, Dwemer means Deep Folk (among others), Orsimer means Corrupted Folk, etcetera. Men, on the other hand, is an Aldmeris word that means, essentially, "Not people."
DeepBlueFrog Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 Which begs to ask .. Are Nords intrinsically racist? Or are they reacting to the racism of the Altmer? I wonder if Todd Howard has any idea of what he started..,
Content Consumer Posted April 22, 2016 Author Posted April 22, 2016 Which begs to ask .. Are Nords intrinsically racist? Or are they reacting to the racism of the Altmer? Yes. And yes. I dunno... historically speaking, the Altmer have been far more arrogant about their racial superiority. Somewhere around here I have a "pocket guide to the empire" that talks about that in a little more detail. However, IIRC it also talks about (briefly) the back and forth between the Altmer and the other races - Cyrodiils in particular - and the horrors the Imperials visited on Summerset Isle during the conquest that formed the empire. Like much of the TES lore, it's a hodgepodge of ideas, vague remembrances, accurate facts, half-truths, and old stories... just like real life, actually. This often self-contradictory mishmash is the natural result of thousands of years of unrecorded history, recounted only in legends and the occasional interaction with Daedra, Divines, and demigods of all sorts who may or may not be lying, or even misremembering, themselves. I absolutely love this. I wonder if Todd Howard has any idea of what he started.., Technically that would be Julian LeFey and Vijay Lakshman. Todd Howard was a wee beastie working in CD-ROM QA when the series got started. IIRC Howard didn't take over lead development until Morrowind, actually, though I believe he was bumped up to a general designer for Daggerfall.

Content Consumer Posted April 22, 2016 Author Posted April 22, 2016 Expert about Bethesda lore too And lo, in the latter days of the Fifth Age, did the kingdoms of Bethesda and Valve come into conflict. The titans Howard and Newell did battle on the Plains of DRM. For many days and nights did the two contest each other, but in the end, Howard was slain, his life fluid staining the ground of DRM, and the entire realm of Bethesda did come under the mighty sway of Valve, forever locked to Steam.
Carly Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 Hi everyone and thanks for your awesome mod. I like the Nord Queen start but i have a problem, i can't refill life force with draugr, they hurt me. And do you know if there is a way to be attacked by npc when you're in any other form than the human one ? Thanks !

I'm not sure what you mean by the second part, though... do you mean that all actors are nonhostile when you're in human form?

I'm not sure what you mean by the second part, though... do you mean that all actors are nonhostile when you're in human form? Oh ok thanks i haven't understood No, i would like to know if it's possible to introduce a feature which make guards hostile and NPC flee (for example) when you're in the ghost state. Like when you're in succubus form in PSQ.
DeepBlueFrog Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 I will add that to the list (the attacks when in undead form).. Although that could make getting replenished more difficult. Draugr should heal you too but half as fast as nords. If they attack, it could be caused by another mod.
thianeth Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 Are there any unlisted requirements or procedures for the milk maid starts. For some reason they are not showing up for me. I have the newest version of MME installed. I'll post load order later when I have it available
Content Consumer Posted April 22, 2016 Author Posted April 22, 2016 Are there any unlisted requirements or procedures for the milk maid starts. For some reason they are not showing up for me. I have the newest version of MME installed. I'll post load order later when I have it available If you could post a papyrus log too, that'd help. But no, there aren't any requirements for the Milk Maid start, either male or female, except having MME installed. Let me double-check and see if I left in a bad condition or something... EDIT: Yep, sure enough, I left in a bad condition. I had that start turned off for a while because I couldn't figure out the code to make it work properly, and I forgot to remove it. Sorry about that... give me a few minutes and I'll upload a patch that should fix the issue. Okay, here's the patch. Just install it right over v8b and it should work fine. CCAS Starts v8c patch.7z This does three things: 1. Remove the bad condition on the milk maid start 2. Fixed the prostitute starts failing to close the starting quest properly 3. Re-implements the mara statue activator dialogue condition. I'll keep it in unless people start mentioning that no dialogue is showing up again, in which case I might as well just release two versions from now on - one with the condition (preferred, but apparently doesn't work for some) and one without (more likely to work, but with an associated unavoidable bug). Fingers crossed...
Asaroki Posted April 23, 2016 Posted April 23, 2016 I feel like this is a bug, but for some reason, the Nord Heal-Drain thing from the Ancient Queen start seems to keep being displayed on characters who didn't take the start. Like whenever my PC gets into a sexual animation, it displays "Having Sex with a Nord heals you" and "Recovery Phase X" just like how the Ancient Queen start would heal her. Another bug, which I'm not sure it's from this or from Stories (sorry if it is from stories, wasn't sure) was that the moment I get close to the Red Wave, it seems to automatically force a bounty on me from the crew. Like "You now owe the Red Wave 1000 gold" and treats as if I had talked to them when I simply happened to pass the area. And a third bug which I found extremely odd. I got the dialogue options from this mod on a pre-existing character. I interacted with a follower, and suddenly, there's "I'm a character in a dark tale" dialogue option. I do apologize if these aren't very detailed, I just randomly encountered them recently.
