badcock Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 [VENT ON] This has to be the absolute most frustrating piece of crap in the entire Skyrim game. I have removed mods, loaded previous saves, cleaned game saves, etc. Everything except starting over. Nothing works!!! Shouts will not cleanse the stones. I had to use console commands to advance the quests. In the main quest for Miraak, several tunnels are dead ends. I have to use the console command TCL to get past them. I can't advance one of the quests, because I can't place the books on any of the pedestals. Again, I used the console to advance the quest and to move to the quest target. Now at the end of the quest, I get a CTD whenever Miraak dies. I just want to get through this stupid DLC and forget it. If I could unload it I would, but there are too many mods that now require this POS DLC. Uggh!!! Ughh!!! [VENT OFF] Thanks [Edit: corrected typos]
gooser Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 I've played through DB probably 20 times, with 150-200 mods. Never had any of those issues. The only one I remember is getting to Vahlok's Tomb and the Puzzle door not working.
myuhinny Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 Depends on the mods being used if the unofficial patches are being used. The first time I ever played it I did it with a clean game and only 1 or so armor mods and the only problem I had was trying to get up that floating pad to that one guy in the mushroom other then that every thing worked fine. Advancing quests can work but it can also cause more problems along the way.
Content Consumer Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 Shouts will not cleanse the stones. Stupid question, but I just thought I'd ask... which shout are you using on the stones? You're only supposed to use the Bend Will shout... In the main quest for Miraak, several tunnels are dead ends. I have to use the console command TCL to get past them. Which tunnels? Are you talking about some of the paths in Apocrypha? Most of those dead-ends either have teleporters to get into them, or activators to open them up. Some of them move on their own. If not the paths in Apocrypha, which dungeon or fort or whatever? Are you talking about Kolbjorn Barrow, that one gradually opens up areas once a ?week? during the Unearthed quest. I can't advance one of the quests, because I can't place the books on any of the pedestals. Are you talking about when you have to put the books Boneless Limbs, Gnashing Blades, Delving Pincers, and Prying Orbs on the pedestals? I think (IIRC) that you can't actually put the books on the pedestals unless it's the right book - like the Prying Orbs book has to go on its own pedestal, and trying to put any other book there just doesn't work. As far as I can remember, anyway. Now at the end of the quest, I get a CTD whenever Miraak dies. That happens to me a lot. Actually, that whole ending bit is really, really buggy. Sometimes it crashes, sometimes he dies and turns into a skeleton and the quest breaks right there, sometimes he's immortal and can't die. I keep a save just before I get on the dragon to ride up there, and often have to reload like four or five times just to get past that point. I don't know why that area in particular is so damn glitchy.
Valgo Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 I had similiar Problems with Dawnguard. Had to advance quests through console commands and Dawnguard Creatures were unable to attack me because reasons. Dragonborn was even worse as I just got an error message as soon as I got to the Island. However back then I installed all my Mods manually. Noobmistake. Now that I got back into the Game I have a few problems starting it from scratch but that is probably because I installed 130+ Mods at once. This time I am positive that things will work out just fine after a few tries x)
darkconsole Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 Meanwhile over here I'm tired of all the expansions working correctly. Need Moar Expansions.
Kendo 2 Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 I run a very light mod load (less than 20) and this is what I got when playing the Dragonborn DLC: *When I exited Nchardak the dragon spawned but Miraak was not there. I killed the dragon and absorbed it's soul. That was not supposed to happen. After the battle Miraak was supposed to be there and steal the dragon's soul. *With the final battle with Miraak he will not die. When he forces the dragons to land so he can absorb their souls they go to me instead and he gets stuck in a perpetual weapon drawn loop idle while ethereal. I redid the battle starting from a save from before I entered the final cell. I did this 10 times, 10 different ways; don't make him take too much damage at once, kill the dragons first so he can't use them to heal, dismount the serpentine dragon and then get back on it, stand on foot while rubbing my head and stomach in opposite directions while reciting rubber-baby-buggy-bumpers. NONE of the on-line solutions worked and I ended up consoling the quest to finish it. *I can't absorb dragon souls in Solstheim after the DLC main quest is completed, but the vanilla dragons and the ones added by Dawnguard work fine in Skyrim proper and the Vale added by Dawnguard. Not that I really care since I still get to loot their bodies for bones/scales and gold but that part from the main quest (Miraak steals dragon souls from the player) is broken. *Frea the Skaal follower refuses to leave service once taken as a follower. The ONLY fix is to console the vanilla FollowerDialogue quest to stop and restart again. I do not have any follower overhaul mods installed that affect her OR the vanilla follower and hireling quests. She's fucking broken and I don't like her combat AI or character build anyway; which makes it even worse when I get stuck with her. *Neloth will not take the Black Books and those quests never finish. I am also stuck with them in my inventory. *Fixing Neloth's mushroom tree house for the Old Friends quest never happens BUT that quest advances anyway. I just didn't get to do that part of it. *I get a Microsoft Visual C++ runtime library crash when in Solsthiem. It doesn't happen anywhere else. NOTE: I have manually extracted the entire Dragonborn DLC and installed it like a mod with loose files. Everything is there for the game to read and it's still a buggy broken piece of Bethesda shit. Oh, and Bethesda knows this and they'll 'fix it' with the next update...from 2013....yyyeah.
NickNozownik Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 I would be surprised if everything would be 100% glitch free in my game. I can't finish the civil war questline without using console commands and reloading a few times. NPCs have no dialogue (except for random greeting), NPCs are getting stuck, quests stages are not advancing properly. Mods or unofficial patches didn't help at all. Now the DLC. Dexion the moth priest guy keeps throwing his temper tantrum, other vampires are coming to aid me and it quickly turns into a one big broken bugfest. Fortunately mods were very helpful this time. I didn't complete the Dragonborn main questline, but side quest where I'm helping someone to dig through a tomb glitches almost all the time. Heartfire DLC is even worse, because after building my house I've noticed that entering it often causes CTD. Removing workbenches and installing unofficial patches didn't fix it. Oh well.
darkconsole Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 I honestly wish my game would glitch. I am always watching videos on youtube where funny shit happens to people. Nothing funny ever happens to me.
Kuroyami Posted December 12, 2015 Posted December 12, 2015 I run a very light mod load (less than 20) and this is what I got when playing the Dragonborn DLC: *When I exited Nchardak the dragon spawned but Miraak was not there. I am also stuck with them in my inventory. *Fixing Neloth's mushroom tree house for the Old Friends quest never happens BUT that quest advances anyway. I just didn't get to do that part of it. The dragon outside Nchardak might be one that Miraak does not absorb, since I have not seem him do it in the few playthroughs of DB i've done, nor have I seen that in any Let's Plays. Him taking souls is random, obviously, but he is not meant to take every one you can possibly get. The chance for him to do so gets lower once you start cleansing the Stones. I've heard of the crash after killing Miraak, but I have never had it happen myself. I would imagine that it is for a similar reason that the game can crash or have the quest not complete in a similar case with Septimus. Mainly I've just used texture/mesh replacers for DB, the Konahriik's Accutrements mod, although the only problems I've had there would be a slight oddlity with SOS(Miraak's skeleton wearing the SOS underwear), but nothing that breaks the quest. For the Black Books Neloth is not supposed to take them - if he did, then you could not go back if you missed something. I think I have done all the Black Book quests, and they should finish once you get to the last book in the level - the one that gives you a choice of abilities(Active Effects) or powers. I'm not sure if the Healing A House quest is needed for Old Friends, but it should be obtainable if you talk to Elynea in the Apothecary. I did have one case where the door to the Apothecary seemed to be always locked, but I think at some point I was able to go in without picking the lock. The only huge problem I've had with the DLC myself would be on one character where the game would crash for some bloody reason when I tried to go twoards the area with Miraak's Temple, Thrisk, etc. I have no idea why.
myuhinny Posted December 12, 2015 Posted December 12, 2015 I was just messing around with the DLC last night and have one bad spot and that is where you leave the town and follow the path and help the commander fight those ass spawn. There is no problem till I get within so far of that place and it then causes a CTD. I just went back to playing the other stuff and haven't bothered looking at that area with TES5EDIT to see what is altering that area. But then I do have a shit ton of mods installed so that is probably why.
fgambler Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 Skyrim is a bugfest but I never had any of the gliches mentioned, not even when I wasn't using USKP/DG/DB.
Content Consumer Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 I honestly wish my game would glitch. I am always watching videos on youtube where funny shit happens to people. Nothing funny ever happens to me. Sure, I like my 50,000-foot gold-plated mansion okay, but I really wish I could spend a night in my neighbor's refrigerator carton. I've been pretty lucky so far, most of my bugs have been minor in scope and of limited duration.
badcock Posted December 14, 2015 Author Posted December 14, 2015 Content Consumer,Yes, its the Bend Will shout, and it is unlocked. All three levels. Yes, the tunnels in the Aprocrypha. I have read a couple of walkthroughs and watched a couple of YouTube videos. All point to the same two tunnels as being open, but not in my game. I have all four books, and nothing happens when I click ANY of the pedestals. I should be prompted for which book I want to place on the pedestal. Nothing happens when I click any of the pedestals. I'm using the commands, SetStage and Movetoqt to get to the next quest marker. I cannot tame the Dragon to fly to Miraak. Again, using the commands, SetStage and Movetoqt to get there. I have a saved game right before Miraak dies. A CTD happens every time I start to absorb the dragon soul. I have even opened the console and teleported the Skaal village and Whiterun. Still get a CTD. Back to the drawing board and examining the remaining mods to which ones can be removed.
gvman3670 Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 I never had any DB issues, either vanilla or modded. So I can't help. Just thought I'd mention that it IS possible for it work properly.
Kendo 2 Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 For the Black Books Neloth is not supposed to take them - if he did, then you could not go back if you missed something. I think I have done all the Black Book quests, and they should finish once you get to the last book in the level - the one that gives you a choice of abilities(Active Effects) or powers. YES, he does. The book isn't removed from the player's inventory but the quest he gives to find it should update and be marked as completed. Doesn't happen in my game. The Lost Knowledge quest never completes. He makes a copy for himself and I get the leveled reward and the quest gets stuck at 'I have retrieved the Black Book for Neloth'. You can't tell me it's not happening because IT IS.
Bert Goldsteen Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 And here i am. having played about 1500 hours on several savegames on console... with about 20 or so bugs all in all (all main quests and dlcs completed) and only the least amount severe, but none as much as hazardous for the save. which either means i got extremely lucky, bethesda put more effort into the console version, or all the modding tends to harm files more often than it should. bear in mind that there are not even the unofficial patches or anything used.
Guest Akrabra Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 Never had any issues wtih Dragonborn, in vanilla or with mods. Though i usually don't run alot of mods that tends to overwrite the vanilla stuff and unofficial patches. Still heard of people having alot of problems with it and that Miraak won't die.
PervyPotter Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 The only bug I've ever had with Dragonborn was sometimes getting a CTD when trying to return to Skyrim, but that one seems to be fairly common, I used to get back using a teleport spell added by some mod I had installed. I think it was called "Phenderix Tool" very handy for new playthroughs as it could teleport you to towns and cities you hadn't visited yet and couldn't fast travel to.
Saviorsrd Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 I honestly wish my game would glitch. I am always watching videos on youtube where funny shit happens to people. Nothing funny ever happens to me. Unfortunately, glitches are very much like mean pranks, I find - they're generally funny to everyone except you. (Unless you're just screwing around and don't care about the consequences.)
afa Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 Only DB glitch I came across so far is one time when the initial ash spawn outside Raven Rock for the start of March of the Dead quest being invincible.
shardoom Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 Never had a glitch (that was Bethesda's fault) while playing DG, HF or DB. I had previously fucked about with my video card settings, and got the bounce around and die in the green shit while in Apocrypha bug, until I sorted my settings back out. Never had any of the glitches posted here though. Then I always make sure my mods are properly made compatible with each other with Xedit and obviously use the unofficial patches. (Which is now just one patch, yay) Getting pissed off and using the console to skip parts of quests is just fucking asking for trouble though.
