BCk9 Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 Rruarfff!!! Hiya' all. Here's the deal. Coming up on 2 years successfully using Win 7 PRO [64 bit] OEM on my relatively 'new' system with minimal problems. Now I have the option to update to Windows 10 [FREE FOR A LIMITED TIME]. I'm cheap and don't want to spend money if I don't have to. All of my software/firmware/hardware has been installed/setup with my Win 7, and I don't want to screw things up or be forced to reinstall a bunch of stuff because it's not compatible with something. [i was a Win XP user before this, but I can't get some of my older XP games/stuff to function correctly on Win 7 due to driver/software/etc issues, even in compatibility mode and I don't want the same thing to happen by upgrading to Win 10]. So I'm looking for opinions/info/kudos/bitches/etc. from users and non-users about Windows 10 as compared to Windows 7. I'm doing my online research about it, but hearing opinions directly from users/modders on topics is always of greater benefit than solo searching. Your input is valued, here's my system stats; Processor: Intel i7-4770k CPU @ 3.5 GHz RAM: Kingston- 4 x DIMM 32 GB DDR3 Dual channel @ 1600 Motherboard: Asus Z87-WS LGA 1150 w/ Gen3 4-way, SATA-6 Gb/s, USB 3.0, lots more Video Card: MSI Lightning nVidia GTX 770 w/ 2 GB Hard Disks: Samsung Pro 256 GB SSD, WD Caviar Black 2 TB HDD Power Supply: Corsair Gold 950 watt (SLI/Crossfire ready) Case or Enclosure: CoolerMaster Full ATX 690 II Monitor: Philips 46 inch HDTV & Samsung TFT-LCD 22 inch widescreen Audio Equipment: SoundBlaster X-Fixtreme 5.1 audio card, w/ Tactics 3D Sigma Headphones Input Devices: SteelSeries- Merc Stealth keyboard, Diablo III mouse So, what do ya' figure people? Update, Ignore [for now], Wait 'til they fix any bugs[usually a year, right?]. Am I gonna have to buy a touchscreen? THX Ooops...NO 46" HDTV anymore [damn it was awesome to play on], it was 6 years old and blew under the strain about 4 months ago. Have to replace it one day...
Arhon Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 Exactly 3 sec google. http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/windows-10-editions That should tell you about the features in each windows 10(home/pro) Also I went and upgraded to windows 10 from windows 7 and had no incompatibility issues. No program had to be unistalled, since the windows logo in the task bar checks to see if you have any incompatible programs.
bjornk Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 If you want more control over your OS stick to Win 7. Oh, and as they say, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Guest Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 There are a few weeks that I am using Win10, and I had not a single problem with drivers/firmware/etc. My configuration is really similar to yours. (My graphic card is older.) I had no problems with the applications. But I recommend to take the opportunity to do the full install and not just the upgrade (It is still free, you just have to burn a DVD.) Win7 and Win10 have the same drivers architecture. So moving from one to another is not a big deal. (Like it was for XP to Vista or Vista to 7.)
...0... Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 It will fit the shoe smoothly. But agreement you need sign will give them all the power your privacy is no more after windows 10 even if you disable all the rules just change M$ NOW UPDATE WITH NO NOTICE AT ALL WHATS INSTALLED THEY CAN INSTALL ANYTHING THEY WANT AND YOU DON'T HAVE ANY SAY IN THIS PLUS THEY HAVE RIGHT SNOOP AROUND AND DISABLE APPS IF THEY SUIT THEM. So aware of windows10 malware/spyware you will install. This just a awareness if you don't have any problems others conpromise your privacy then ignore my reply and enjoy windows 10 it seems smooth and run a little faster.
NickNozownik Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 If you have no bigger issues with Windows 7 then I don't see the point of "upgrading" it to Windows 10. Maybe it runs a little faster but there is no huge difference. Disable most of the useless junk services running in the background and you'll have a noticable performance gain on Windows 7.
BCk9 Posted August 27, 2015 Author Posted August 27, 2015 Grarr!! Rip Tear Shred Gobble... Love consuming info. Thanks for the input so far. I'm currently very happy with my Win 7 but one day I'll probably be forced to upgrade/install new and I desire to know as much as I can beforehand. Keep it coming please... THX

To add: hardware compatibility. I'm using a rig with non-UEFI parts or anything compatible with 10, so I still use 7.
Jagdpanzer 38t Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 I personally will stick to win 7. Win 8 and win 10 look like Facebook to me lol

Win 10 is much more close to Win 7 than you think. Facebook is huge risk in privacy Windows 10 identical as FB risk of privacy(only soon getting worse then google or facebook). Windows 10 because of start is back maybe look like windows 7 but its not even close and its almost identical to windows 8.1 and look(still some METRO STYLE STUPID TILES not much has change compare to windows 8.1(got windows 10 on my laptop) only bit faster and soon DX 12 games(only VIABLE REASON to switch)but privacy is compromised in windows 10 i see windows 10 as WORSE windows EVER its malware-spyware you install. I know most of already lost with privacy or just don´t care but reality is worse then most realise M$ is going step further then google or facebook. Mark my words how in year time many will whine so much because of what M$hit is doing. Paranoid maybe but a healthy one.
Buddy Christ Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 Actually, I can't take any rant against Microsoft and Windows 10 serious anymore when it includes "M$" and "M$hit". It really is getting old and to me looks childish.

There's no point in being paranoid anymore, they can find anything with varying degrees of difficulty anyway. Really, apart for normal folks who want to steal your money and such, there's no point in trying to hide from Microsoft, N**, C**, F**, etc. Windows 10 is awesome but ruisn resolutions, I played for almost an hour with "Hey Cortana!" like a crazy person.
BCk9 Posted August 27, 2015 Author Posted August 27, 2015 Harf!!! Nice to see so many people piping up. I intend to continue with my Win 7 for as long as I can before updating/upgrading my OS. I just like it best so far, but I'm definitely going to continue studying/researching some more...a lot more...before I have to commit myself [others have tried to have me committed but I keep getting away...haw!..] As for being paranoid, I'm past that and into conspiracy theories... All right. Keep on shoveling into the vacuum cleaner of my brain. Even dirt and crap have their many uses, so anything goes. THX

One big reason gamers should upgrade to Windows 10 is because it will be the only OS with DirectX12 which will eventually be needed to run modern games, in 2-5 years or so I would be surprised if most AA and AAA games still support DX11.
gvman3670 Posted August 28, 2015 Posted August 28, 2015 I'm loving Win10 to be honest. And it seamlessly integrates my Win8.1 Nokia phone, my laptop and my Xbox One into an awesome overall system. I can take my laptop and controller to another room and continue playing Halo from my Xbox! Awesome ass shit, man. Fucking great! Or watch a movie on my lappy then cast it to all the Windows devices in the house simultaneously if I want to. Cool shit. And it runs a bit faster and smoother than 7 did, if that even sounds possible. Plus it's a LOT more like 7 than you're probably anticipating. Heck, every single program I had running on 7 is still running as it did before. As for forced updates, that can be turned off as well. Damned near everything anyone's complained about can be turned off actually.

No point is easy way you give up you lose they win. But i understand when your whole life already is open book on the internet then you obvious say this that it´s no point fighting this. I will never give up and im winning also major btw. Google Facebook or any social media have not earn a dime from me and i intend to keep it that way. If i can´t find ways to make sure my privacy is safe or avoid they make money on me i disconnect no problem already have nothing remotely connect to internet only my PC have no smartphone register no where. I know some will say the cliché what have you to hide your so keen on privacy i have 100% nothing to hide it´s principle my personal life is my own i decide what i do or do not i decide if someone can use my personal info or not not M$ FB Google or any have say in this. If i dont have say what i can do or do not then im out i never bow to totalitarian regimes. M$ FB GOOGLE and many others are no that different from a totalitarian state where some idiot dictate the rules. Fuck them all.
NickNozownik Posted August 28, 2015 Posted August 28, 2015 As for forced updates, that can be turned off as well. Damned near everything anyone's complained about can be turned off actually. So you can permanently disable them in the control panel/services without messing around with the registry? Windows Update process on WIn7 would still show up after turning it off. The only way to get rid of it was to remove its dependencies in the registry. One big reason gamers should upgrade to Windows 10 is because it will be the only OS with DirectX12 which will eventually be needed to run modern games, in 2-5 years or so I would be surprised if most AA and AAA games still support DX11. By this time Windows 10 will, or at least should, get a couple of updates and maybe Microsoft will remove any spyware from this OS. I'm not saying that Windows 10 is complete garbage -2/10 but it is better to wait some time before upgrading. Maybe in 2-5 years people will be able to buy AA and AAA games on their release day without the risk of paying for a shitting beta version that runs like crap even on a monster PC.
PsychoMachina Posted August 28, 2015 Posted August 28, 2015 Dual-Boot Win7 and Win10. Dual-booting allows you to have both without sacrificing one or the other.

Wurger41 Posted September 5, 2015 Posted September 5, 2015 That free upgrade's "limited time" was originally announced to be about 3 months or so after launch but MS decided to extend it recently to a whole year! I upgraded in early August and I don't think I'll downgrade back to Win 7 pro 64 again. (And I Loved win 7...as for Win 8 & even 8.1...well, the words "Vista 2" leap to mind, ) I really do miss the AeroGlass interface of Win 7, but I'm told there will be mods/skins to provide for that (Thank GOD!!). Upgrade with confidence. Brett
Erza Scarlet Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 As for forced updates, that can be turned off as well. Damned near everything anyone's complained about can be turned off actually. You're not wrong but you're also not right. There are settings which you can optically turn off. But there are still parts of Windows 10 which will still operate normally as if they have never been turned off, even if the settings slider says "off". And that's the biggest fucking stupidest thing Microsoft evr did. Why should I want to give my privacy away to Microsoft? Why should I let them do on my device what they want? I bought my fucking device and paid for it. I bought a fucking license to use it, so why should I give away the right to install what I want away to Microsoft so they can fucking install what they want, grasp everything about me and how I use it and upload it to their server? They have no fucking right to do that. And that's why I continue to use Windows 7, even though I could upgrade to Windows 10. I hope the EU Commission will fuck their fucking ass anytime soon.
