Not really surprising that "she" needed a break (or a new project) the size of this thing. I've learned a whole lot, and am saddened that so much was hard-coded, since I see quite a bit of those sorts of things cause frustration in new users. My (currently non existent) day job is to make sense out of messy "spaghetti code" in legacy projects. And KW is a classic example of that type of project, I know of 83 versions of this project. That much change can make anything hard, but this is one of the more ambitious game mods, or, heck any project for a "solo" developer. That it works as well as it does is simply amazing. NRass mods mostly started with just a solo dev, but then got handed off to a team, which is probably the key to why they run so well. I think KW has about the complexity of NR SP+Woohooer+MasterController+Career+Vector but also with handling animations from pretty much any creator. RE: merging mods & CC Spoiler I like to suggest people start off using the "extract into archive_name" option that 7-zip has. This way, things will be more organized, and if you want to change version (of, say, KW) all you have to do is pop in a new directory and remove the old, instead of finding the 16 packages (at least KW's are all named with an easy to find prefix). But, after a while you can get into the multiple thousands of files and then merging gets looked at. S3PE doesn't allow (or at least I didn't find it) adding all packages in a folder and all sub folders, it just does one directory at a time. I had 873 folders. Thankfully grouped into similar things (clothing, accessories, skins, etc.). But in copying all the files from all sub folders into a single folder to allow merging w/ s3pe easily, I learned that I had a few duplicate skins and sliders. I guess, as much as I also like suggesting people use the sims3dashboard, even it has its limits and can't check everything. RE: startup times Spoiler Here's some testing results for the curious. I made a backup copy of the entire game dir, and then copied, changing out only the Mods folder so that was the absolute only difference. Only mistake I made was putting a different version of KW than what that game originally had, but I kept the same (newer) version for both tests. Point there being that these times are slightly longer due to the KW update routine. I also had mouse-in-hand to minimize any user-required interactions. This was with a world that had been going for quite a while. The Bridgeport_0x09ffe3d7.nhd file is 274 MB in size. Smaller worlds will always start faster. From starting TS3W.exe until KW finished it's dimmed-screen loading: before merging (4.7 GB / 3437 packages): 14:14 after merging (4.5 GB / 97 packages): 8:29 (a 40% improvement) Merging is all about load speed, not disk space savings. It saved some, 0.2 GB, which might be more needed for some players than others. Now to just remove the unwanted/unneeded CC... before getting to this point. Save yourselves, it's probably too late for me. ? And I know I don't have nearly as much as some of y'all. Anyway, my goal is to knock the size down to under 4 GB. Was pushing 7 GB a few months ago. Worst case scenario ( I had to do with Bridgeport, one of my oldest saves). You'll want to grab a pen and paper to keep track, so you'll copy each and every household to the Library Bin/Edit town. Then start a new save/town, and then place all households back where they belong. There may be ways to keep relationships, but I never worried about it. Even using all the tools (save cleaner/etc.) eventually a town begins to grind to a halt. Sims inventories, relationships, work histories, so much just clogs the arteries.... 5,087 users online

You don't need Woohooer at all, but I use it for other things I got use to for years before adding KW. Wait I did delete more then two mods, but I just couldn't really tell. I'm mostly guessing, probably should re-add the mods I used slowly before I assume. Uh I noticed also, if I randomize the horses they go invisible and show their penis floating... the other pets don't do this. Odd and it effects randomly generated horses, so you see random floating horse dicks around. I think I'm missing something or is that normal? I did read the description though and got all I needed, so I don't think I'm missing anything. I got Overwatch still and yea Error Trap did help a lot and after testing without it... I already miss it. Maybe it was a different mod causing conflicts? but I don't know, I had a small amounts of mods that modified anything so it was hard to tell. ------- Also I started searching for a skintone/texture on sexysims and really liked navetsea F-IN TS3 Adult glam default, maybe because it's very detailed but it looks really good.

All josh Shoes, all josh revealing tops, all josh accessory lingerie/stockings, etc. Even just stuff like that would seem to help both load time, and troubleshooting. Maybe when the 64 bit mac version comes out, someone will fix/rebuild some of the tools.

Most Apple products seem to be immune to the type of variety caused issues that still plague the PC market, but it's gotten better since the '90's'. I remember a quote from a coworker, whom did board level 'pc' repairs in the late '80's'. Apple software was loosely written, because they had dedicated systems to write for, and weren't worried about squeezing every bit of space used by code to program with. vtb Posted April 3, 2020 Posted April 3, 2020 Normally its not an issue. I mean, MacOS is BSD/Unix based and has been for nearly 20 years now. The real issue is that Sims3 wasn't really written for the mac, and was a cider port. Cider acts as a directX wrapper and a fake copy of windows running as an app, so that the windows version of the game interacts with a fake version of DirectX provided by cider. For example, the "The Sims3.app" file you click on to open the launcher, is actually a package. Using the terminal, you can look inside it and see that it has a whole huge file structure. The Sims3.app/Contents/Resources/transgaming/c_drive/windows/system32/cgD3D9.dll (and dozens of other .dll files) Its like playing UNO with a regular deck of cards. Aces become wild draw 4's, kings become Wild's, queens become skips, jacks become reverses, and 10's become draw2's or something like that. Works fine in theory, but two beers later you forget whats a skip and whats a reverse and have to look at a cheat sheet and that takes time (and lets other players know you have SOMETHING worth looking up on a cheat sheet). Its significantly less than ideal. Several mac games in the 2007ish-2010ish era were done this way. Most of them had much higher system requirements on the mac than windows because of the entire extra layer of crap. Many didn't run on anything with intel graphics (or ran in powerpoint slideshow mode). Or didn't run well fullscreen, or ONLY ran well fullscreen, or only at certain resolutions. This also means, that with cider not updating, and games not updating, even though newer hardware has come out, newer graphics cards, newer processors, newer drivers and newer operating systems, here my machine is, still using some stupid translation layer that is emulating directX 9 from 2014ish. 8/12 cores, 16/24 thread dual Xeon workstation with a small mountain of ram? Doesn't matter. You get to use 2GB of ram and pretend like its a single core machine with a shitty graphics card from 2012. At one point in the past, I wrote a script that would build a 30GB ramdisk and had scripts that would copy my entire sims3 application folder, as well as mods folder into the ramdisk, then create symbolic links everywhere so that it ran everything directly out of ram. Much faster, but a super pain in the butt to troubleshoot mods when anytime it crashed with a black fullscreen you'd have to pull the plug and then reset your ramdisk and figure out what you did differently/wrong. Not so hard to remember 1 undo, but 2, 3, 4? I'm so ready for the 64 bit version since its supposedly going to not be using the old cider wrapper for graphics and instead will be written to use Apple's Metal API's to talk to the GPU's without umpteen layers in between.

Highly doubtful, but always a remote possibility... IF the person making the MAC version has a MAC! TS3 is dead to EA, so regardless of anything, they won't be doing anything more with it, and haven't for a long time... which is good!!! As landess said, so many people have Windows based PC's, including the people making mods and tools for TS3... and I guess it's a different set of programming rules? Many tools that I use haven't been updated in 5 or even 10 years.

About the Woohoo, elderly Sims in TS4 will get an "exhaustion" moodlet if they do it; once I insisted on making them WooHoo again while having this moodlet and they just DIED, I was appalled. ? Now that you mention it, indeed, Oniki is a solo modder, which makes the prowess much more astouding. The level of detail in this mod is superb. But it does still do a "hard-crash" every now and then, but that's usually only when I've gone several hours w/o saving. The only thing a 64-bit OS will give you, is the ability to run other things simultaneously as running TS3. The game will never be able to use more than it does now. (64-bit Win10 w/ 64 GB RAM... TS3 crashes when it reaches 3.2 GB used. Sucks, but it is what it is.) Oh, and some of the tools I use still feel "beta" (or "alpha") as they have bugs, unrefined UIs, but their creators moved on to TS4 or stopped Sim-ing altogether, so don't hold your breath on the tools ever being updated for a new Mac version, since they'll never be updated for Windows either (and almost all Sim mod or tool devs are Windows devs).

Running programs in 32 bit mode also restricts you to 32 bit addressing with regards to drivers and such also though, and does some screwy things with disk caching in some OS's. Its one of the reasons that Apple is basically removing all 32 bit modes in the newer OS, so that the old compatibility layers and hacks to break up disk cache into smaller chunks and to page swap between different virtual memory spaces doesn't exit. 32 bit modes also prevent you from mirroring GPU ram into the same address space as program ram, unless both GPU ram and program ram fit into the same 4GB chunk. This gets worse with more modern hardware, since if you've got 2GB of video ram, looks like you only get 2GB of program ram if you want it all in the same address space. Not to say that 64 bit fixes everything, it certainly doesn't, but if they're rewriting TS3 for mac as a 64 bit application, AND they're writing the graphics stuff to tie into Apples Metal API, that should solve a LOT of issues, not only with ram limits, but also with performance as it will then have far more space to load/unload textures into before having to unload. Hell, maybe even CAS thumbs can be cached in ram so they don't have to reload every time for every category when switching. As far as running windows in a VM or dual boot, can't really dual boot XP anymore since hardware doesn't support it. A VM might be a good solution though.

Not always, there's a pretty heavy use of a function RandomChance() that the settings value is passed into. I can't find any docs on that, but other things I've used treat the value given as a "seed", which means it gives a small influence but is still a random outcome. This thing, though, must be some EA function, and I've read elsewhere that the EA randomness is flawed. (Although that seemed to be more making 5% turn into feeling more like 25-50%.) I think you'll need these 2, at a minimum.
