I am a male, and I am a feminist. I believe women should have equal rights to men. If you agree with the previous statement, you are a feminist too.

 

The American media has actually convinced people that radical progressive feminists, which makes an insignificant fraction of feminists, is representative of the movement. That is because American television depends on gender stereotypes for advertising and viewership, as it always has, therefore feminism is undesirable and unprofitable. 

A good example of a modern feminist is Emma Watson, and a much better movement of modern feminism than NOW is HeForShe.

No doubt, some feminists unintentionally victimize women - but to judge feminism based on that requires complete ignorance about feminism. "Feminist" is as broad as "left" - it encompasses everything from radicals to moderates, difference feminists to scientifically illiterate feminists, and far more.

Give American women the husband they deserve- NONE!

She still perpetuates the same misconceptions about feminism that are prevalent in american culture. Feminism does not tell women they are helplessly oppressed at all - feminism in the USA is focused on achieving social equality and encouraging women to take on fields that they would otherwise be discouraged to because of their gender, especially with STEM fields and computer science.

 

One major misconception, that she is pushing as well, is the idea of a feminist agenda. There isn't any specific feminist agenda. There are feminists with agendas, but there is no feminist agenda. There aren't a bunch of women sitting in some conference room deciding how to kill men and take over the world. Feminism is extremely broad, and has different focuses in different parts of the world. 

She says "They bring up the definition of feminism, but that isn't really.." Yes, it is. That's feminism. That's it. The oxford definition is, in fact, the correct definition of feminists. The behavior of cherry-picked feminist speakers is not representative of anything other than ignorant people appealing to ad populum.

 

Personally, I strongly disagree with many American and democratic feminist speakers, who seek to enforce social justice for women through political correctness.

No, there is no logic loop here, those people calling themselves feminists and saying they want equality are wrong. It would be no different then calling yourselves a white-supremacist and arguing your for equal rights. Whether or not your actually for equal rights becomes irrelevant to the the fact your choosing to call yourself something you know is inflammatory. If any "feminists" really cared about equality they would call themselves something different so they could get on with the task of creating equality amongst the sexes..... but instead they call themselves feminists so they can waste their time trying to defend a lost cause.... almost as if they are only doing it for the attention. :-/

 

People who keep arguing in loops are just throwing a tantrum, no matter how much you try to say otherwise your supporting a tainted cause. And if blacks really wanted racial equality, then they would call themselves racial equality advocates.

And if gays really wanted marriage equality, then they would call themselves sexual orentation independent marriage advocates.

 

It's a name.

 

They started that name because it began with women and stuck with it. It is called feminism because it is focused on society's aversion to the feminine, oppressing both men and women.

Nowadays, it encompasses men's rights as well, especially in countries such as Canada, Sweden, and Denmark, where American media is not under control.

This can be applied to any and every movement in the history of the world. Not only would a "rebranding" of sorts allow the detractors to declare "victory", it won't solve anything because they can do the same to the new name too.

Ultimately we want for equality for everyone? And you(feminists) want "equality" for feminists, and I stress equality and feminists here.
