It's entirely possible they made animation-adding hard on purpose. And even if not, a sprite based game is MUCH more restricted than a model-based game, as explained earlier. And, knowing people, if/when a sex mod IS made, people will demand it be made for 3+ different body-types and argue over which one is better. 

 

This isn't true. Most 3d games simply do not support any custom animations at all. Or models, for that matter. And textures often have to be violently injected into a running process.

 

In a 2d game, assuming that it's moddable, if you can draw five billion sprites, you can implement almost anything.

Here's hoping it lets you fine tune backgrounds, weather, monsters and sub-biomes.

It seems not. Sad really, this game lost so much of its interest. I suspected that would be the case since it was in early access for so long. People were really interested when it was still a new thing but now even though the game has finally been released there just isn't as much interest for it anymore since everyone has already had their fill of it since early access. Even with the new full release it just didn't add enough new content to keep people interested after they beat the main quest line.

Not to mention that the game progressively got worse and worse with every update, removing the freeform nature of the game and adding a sub par at best story and progression. Its sad to see such potential be flushed down the toilet, maybe one day we can truly get the Terraria in Space we deserve.

Man, the Devs were so thoughtful on social media i can almost believe they ended up being such moralists, What's the big deal with adult mods? if you don't like them don't install them, they're hard enough to install most of the time for most underages to do it anyway.

"The deal" Is they didn't go out of their way to incorporate the extremely complex task of custom animations in a sprite-based game. They did nothing different than any other sprite-game. It's been proven adult mods do work. the problem with them is that you would have to create a separate sprite for every single variation of color, hair, and features of each race for it to be player compatible. The person above you has linked some delightful adult-themed placeable objects, among other things. You're not gonna get sexlab-quality interactions with this sort of game engine and limitations, though I would very much like to be proven wrong here...

If anyone finds anything I've read the whole thread, this all seems promising and all to be real, who knows? But I wanna keep looking and at that this thread is alot of hlep, thanks for that

The issue is that the devs had no clue how to efficiently create the animations they wanted. Character spritesheets currently consist of approximately 50 individual pieces per gender, with outfits pretty much being the same amount. This is why there's been only humanoid races with human bodies and only the head looking alien and only a handful custom outfits.

Animations are done puppet style with individual bodyparts, similar to flashgames, but in one of the most tediously complex way possible. They are, IIRC, also hardcoded so even if you could make the animation you want work with the assets, they do not support injection of these yet.

Chucklefish is a rather incompetent gamedev team just by the sheer amount of rosy glasses and naivety by doing this for their first time ever and them being too proud to admit they fucked stuff up because they were overwhelmed by the amount of work and responsibilities.

There is a person on Deviantart that has done a bunch of Starbound animations, the  Sexy Pole dancing, titty tossing one, and a couple of other animations, that could be willing to turn into mods for money, not sure how much though. I see about getting the name for artist later. He might could do what you want, not sure though.

Guys.Starbound recently got a really big update, which might justspark soe mroe interest in making adult mods for it. From what I know, there are nude body replacers, a vore mod and a WIP bondage mod.

Howdy LL peeps. I made my first mod today in Starbound. It's an erotic poster of A.V.I.A.N. from the Ship A.I. replacer mod also titled A.V.A.I.N. Animation might be difficult, however the A.V.I.A.N mod is quite a lovely well animated mod, When I get a bit better at sprites, I do plan on editing the main A.V.I.A.N files so that she matches this lewd poster. Very cute.... Though, for drama's sake, assuming you got the permissions of the author for the use of the character? (if not, you might be able to get away with it by recoloring).

No problem! It's just a thing that in the artist and modding communities, people can get very touchy over their creations, even when listing it as free to use. With great ability and creativity often comes great instability and sensitivity.

Sorry to butt in here... but is there any new updates to the idea of an adult mod?

I've been pretty eager as I read this, and to be honest, the idea of playing with a Floran or Fenerox in-game sounds really cute and hot... but anyway, rambling.

Just wondering if this is still active...

Starbound is one of those games that could really benefit from some adult modding attention. It's such a damn fun game, it's a shame not to be able to find the seedy underbelly of the universe and sink into the muck of it for a while.

Yeah. This is one of those games that could also certainly be worked into a hypersexualized setting, much like how the skyrim community attaches women, sometimes mutilated women to all sorts of objects in game. And yet we've not even gotten sexualized apex pods yet, much less lewd planets with milk oceans that spawn sex dungeons.
