If it can avoid breaking everything, I will happily take pathetic. ^^

I didn't update so I don't know if it breaks anything. I've been watching this video:

And apparently they have added the Enclave remnants as a bunch of hostile NPCs just so you can get their power armor and retextured vanilla combat armor.

Huzzah;

I just made it!

Update just went live...
And I prevented my steam from auto
-updating FO4 with the "next-gen-update" and ruin my modlist!

But yeah, jokes aside, do we actually really know, how impactfull the update's gonna be?
Especially on our mods here from LL?

Updating right now … 14GB takes some time on my old and rusty uplink :classic_unsure:

Let’s see how fast my mods get updated … no hurry since I can occupy myself with Skyrim as well for next months :classic_laugh:

What happens when you try start the game with ACF put at read only? I am in the same situation but not gonna click fo4 in steam. Making a copy while typing just in case :)

I start via Vortex. When Steam starts, the download will be attempted. This is aborted because the acf is write-protected.

@ebbluminous Thanks for the depots. I assume they are for version 163?

PS: Looks like I'm late. Apparently the files are already updated. :'(

PPS: As an alternative, I have now backed up the entire Steamapps folder. Since I only have FO4 installed, from my layman's point of view that should be fine, right?

Apparently F4SE has been hit by this next-gen upgrade

The 2024-04-25 Fallout 4 update (1.10.980 and later) has broken F4SE and the rest of the native code modding scene similarly to Skyrim's "Anniversary Edition" patch. I am working on an update and cannot currently offer a timeline for its availability, nor whether there will be any critical technical issues that would block an update. Do not email with questions.

Yeah they are for the version before today's update.

If you only have FO4 installed and no mods, you'll be fine

f4se mods are made for a particular release. However, it appears that there is a lot of fixing to do in F4SE before it can work again. It's not a matter of just updating the FO4 version number to which it is paired

If you are naive enough to think all your F4SE mods will get updated I have news for you... they won't. Some will, most won't... because 2 reasons:

1. FO4 is not as popular as Skyrim

2. FO4 version 1.10.163 has been out for ages... some of the mod authors are long gone (Move on) and those F4SE .dll will never get updated if they have the source code.

So go ahead and hit that update button lol

My Steam is only ever in Offline mode, so I don't ever have to worry about auto updates. If I have to restart my computer (which I have to do if FO4 freezes on me), Steam loads up and starts in Offline mode, so again, no worries about auto updates.

Steam does not need to be Online in order for your game to work. it only needs to be online if you are wanting to download or update a game.

Download the 3 depots and paste the contents of each into your FO4 folder. I do this with Skyrim if I need a reinstall and roll back to 1.5.97:

Depot 377162 (.exe)

Depot 377161 (content_a)

Depot 377163 (content_b)

How do you donwload these? I dont see any sort of "download " button on those pages.

Honestly I have no idea how to rollback but I set my fallout 4 installations steamsnifest file to read only like 2 years ago and have never had to deal with mods breaking from updates.

It's simple your manifest number is found on fallout 4 store page

Then you find the manifest file,

Steam/steam apps there about

So the manifest readme file will have a numerical name and will be sitting next to all the other ones, one for each game in the library.

Right click properties....in there find read only andark that apply an save done.

Game won't update any.ore works for all steam games no more keeping steam in offline mode for months years so on.

Even if you click play an there is an update the game won't even start changing files, so your safe.

I believe they are on SteamDB

Presumably the guide mentioned has all the details.

I'm still running old Fallout 4 version with mods.  So, question - is it worth to test "next gen updates" and forget about mods for a while? Is it sooo really huge difference after updates?

edit: pheh, looks like that it's not worth. Thanks God, that I disabled auto update 😁

DON'T DO IT!!! Don't get the update if your FO4 game is modded in ANY way! It will break your build! We have to wait for the mod authors to catch up!

My honest opinion?

NOPE!

I feel like the update isn't bad overall...

There
's at least some free content and a decent amount of fixes for the base game in it.

But it's more likely for consoles to benefit from it.
Same with perfomance and fps support

I feel like, one might think of it as a "vanilla game improvement"

...as for most PC players here, we already fixed issues and improved performance through third party support, and will quite surely only  have drawbacks.

If you have the ~35 GB disc space available, it might be a good idea to create a full backup of your Fallout 4 folder before letting it update. Then you can always roll back to the older version when ever you want. Or could even use both side by side.

Feels like modders already made updates from year when Fallout 4 came out. And much better than Bethesda :D

Actually, you don't need so much space. Just move all files from data to mo2. Remaining files are only ~100mb - pretty easy to backup
