Then you can always roll back to the older version when ever you want. Or could even use both side by side. Do you mean C:\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout 4 and C:\Users\abcd\Documents\My Games\Fallout4? And the depot files and the acf in C:\Steam\steamapps are not required to be backed up?

M.BISON Posted April 27, 2024 Posted April 27, 2024 I have steam set to - update on launch, and using MO2. Game hasn't updated I don't think it will ever update unless I launch it via steam, but would steam ever do a stealth update?

To be safe, change the appmanifest for FO4 to be read only. After this, you'll see the update pending in Steam, but with an error. 2
docsteel Posted April 27, 2024 Posted April 27, 2024 Well, I was one of the few who had no idea this update was coming since I don't really read much gaming news. This weekend I got the urge to play FO4 (no, I have not seen the series, I don't subscribe to the service) and after installing it (I don't have the hard drive space to keep monster games installed eternally) and beginning the modding process I saw that I had just missed the deadline to block the update. So now I'm stuck with the idea of playing FO4 with no mods and, more importantly, no sexy bodies to ogle while I rampage across the wastelands. Sometimes life is hard.
Grymli Posted April 27, 2024 Posted April 27, 2024 On Steam is a manual how to go back to the previous version. I tried it and it works.
chasm Posted April 27, 2024 Posted April 27, 2024 I bet if the F4SE team said "no, we're not updating, this update is not worth it", most of the modding community would just accept never updating again. How many authors have moved on, so their great mods will never be updated to this? 2

Steam forces updates to the Steam app, and that update changed my update/offline settings and trashed my F4. Since the last time they did that I have not played a Steam game. Switched to GoG and Epic. Neither of them has tried to screw me so far. Other than the lack of a CK anyway.
deathmorph Posted April 28, 2024 Posted April 28, 2024 The biggest bummer about the update is that modders are already pulling out of FO4. Thank you, Bethesda. I will never buy a game from you again.

erc1971 Posted April 28, 2024 Posted April 28, 2024 I had to get a new computer. After installing vanilla FO4 I thought about getting back into the world after a couple years away...then I saw the update coming. So I waited, never having installed a single FO4 mod on this new computer...game is 100% vanilla. Once the update came, I decided to play through the intro so I could have a save game ready to mod for when the mods were updated. CTD every 30-60 seconds, completely unplayable. Supposedly many people are having many issues with this patch, so time to wait for the patch to patch the patch.
Captain Cobra Posted April 28, 2024 Posted April 28, 2024 Don't forget to grab a copy of the old Unofficial Fallout 4 Patch (2.1.5, in the old files section, the one that says its for the GOG version) before it gets yeeted out of existence, you'll never know if you'll need it...

Surprised they have put it back up. It's usually update the game to the latest version and fuck you if you don't/can't
0tt3r82 Posted April 29, 2024 Posted April 29, 2024 I use Vortex to launch FO4 and handle my mods. I don't think that I have played in like a week. To my surprise I was met with the message box saying that the game has updated and F4SE doesn't support it. I skimmed the comments in this thread and it appears that F4SE won't even bother to update? Is it possible to revert back to the older version? If so, how? Damnit, this sucks. I was still in the first act with my PC. Went through "Commonwealth Slavers," "Milking Human Kindness," and "Nuka Ride." Had been just drifting through the rest of the game with Sexual Harassment and wanted to get back into some RSE mods and "Problems of a Survivor."

Here's an option for going back to the previous version on Steam. Will that work with my game being managed by Vortex? I think all the files still go to a Steam directory...

You're rolling back the vanilla files, vortex or any mod manager has nothing to do with that. Edited April 29, 2024 by izzyknows 1

Don't know where you read that, but that's wrong. F4SE is being worked on. The trick will be which mods will still need to be updated after that. For many it won't be a problem--they just rely on F4SE. But for others it's going to take an update from the authors of those mods to get them working again. Edited April 29, 2024 by docsteel 1
docsteel Posted April 30, 2024 Posted April 30, 2024 Just found this mod on Nexus that's apparently a real life-saver: https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/81630?tab=description Basically a simple program to revert the files. You have to enter your Steam info which the author says they understand is a big ask for folks but there is an alternative QR code option if you're too uneasy. There is also this one which tricks Steam into thinking you've updated so you shouldn't have to worry about Steam trying to update your files again once you revert: STEAM - Skip Next-Gen update at Fallout 4 Nexus - Mods and community (nexusmods.com) 2

Dodzh Posted May 2, 2024 Author Posted May 2, 2024 F4SE, just released yesterday a "Mod Developer Test" it should be used only by mod developers to test mods 3

Even though it gave me an error message at the end of running the .exe program. Been playing for about an hour now and haven't run into any errors. Thanks again!

Edit: Just checked and it doesn't display an error anymore, just a pending update. Check your update settings in Steam again - Steam has reset mine from 'Only update this game when I luanch it' back to 'Always keep this game updated'. It likes to do that periodically.
