You're going to have to name some of the eastern games with better char gens because most of the eastern games I've played had shitty char gens compared to what eso has right now.

APB, EVE, Saint Row series - from top of my head and all of them have same customization attributes like in eso

EDIT:

Those are western games though, if I had to name an eastern MMO with a chargen that rivals ESO's, I would say Phantasy Star Online 2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WQQ-AB0QY40). It's definitely the best chargen I've seen in eastern MMOs, possibly western MMOs too.

That being said, not looking forward to ESO (or any MMO). They've become too much of a time sink, which was fine back when I was in college and desperately needed something to justify procrastinating on assignments with (just... one... more... bubble), but it's simply incompatible with my job now. I need games I can just save and kick out of at a moment's notice without having to deal with angry guildmates when I hop back in. Hell, even single player games are starting to annoy me in this regard these days, what with not having saves and using checkpoints only.

LoL, indeed I don't know why I read eastern as western...

I myself am not looking forward to ESO, just for the reason that

1: will have to pay sub.

2: Will not have mod

3: NO MORE MODS FOR SKYRIM!!!!!!

I tend to dislike when i am playing a game, then the next game will come out, so then all the mods will go to waste, and I will have to wait for mods, or wait for the next game that is not a MMO to be released by the company, truthfully I would have preferred for a single player or even a multi-player game that would allow our friends to enter our save and play with us, just like Lions gate did in Fable games

Posted

Hmm....When i went to most modding sites, the mods they had weren't that great for Oblivion, so I just hope most people won't abandon skyrim as a whole, until the next game that isn't a MMO comes out :D

ESO is being done by Zenimax Online Studios. Bethesda Game Studios are the ones who make the single player TES & Fallout games they may be owned by Zinemax Media Inc. but they are two separate companies.

Posted

Fallout 3 and New Vegas were great, hoping that they won't go for a Fallout online like they have with Elder Scrolls, since just like ES Fallout has been a personal favorite of mine

Honestly with how the games have been going I would like to see them recreate Daggerfall, or Morrowind for the next game, just add some more details into it and, WHAM out comes the newest ES game that is better than it predecessors

Also I have heard some rumors of this MMO coming out on console from some of my friends recently, anyone know if it's true or not?

Zenimax Online and Bethesda Softworks are two different studios under the same umbrella of Zenimax, but that does not necessarily mean the two are sharing everything. Hell, games made by the same studio with the same engine don't often share everything. For example, Champions Online, Star Trek Online, and Neverwinter are all owned by Cryptic Studios, but each has a different dev team that runs on a different iteration of the engine. They occasionally code merge so everyone's up to date, but just because STO can do one thing doesn't mean Champs can do it too, since (aside form the code merges) they develop independently.

It's even less likely, then, that two separate studios even under the same parent will share people and tech, just like I kinda doubt Doritos and Pepsi will share any tech because they're working on different things - being owned by Pepsico is a meaningless technicality.

In other words, lol semipr0

LOL, They were used as an example on the previous page. :P

Jex did bring up a good point though even games made by the same company rarely share. Mass Effect and Dragon Age for example are both made by Bioware but each one has it's own dev team it's not the same guys working on both games.

Posted

True So True, Forgot about Dragon Age, even though it's one of my favorite games, can't wait for Inquisition to come out, (is it out?) but Dragon Age 2 was kinda a flop for me, didn't enjoy it as much as the first

Posted

true DA2 flopped but the Dev team for the DA franchise owned up to their mistakes while the Dev team for ME3 called "Artistic Integrity" and basically said anyone who didn't like the ME3 ending could go to hell.

P.s. DA3 won't be out till sometime in 2014.

I should add that in semipr0's defense, I would have made the same assumption she (he? their page doesn't have a gender set but her flavor text suggests female) did, since on the surface it seems perfectly logical. I've only picked up these facts by hanging around the Star Trek Online forums way too much. The devs come on every so often and talk to the players, at times shedding light into how MMO development works in some ways. That's how I learned how the feature sharing across their games works - why you can't have a metal shield on your arm in STO but can in Neverwinter and so on. With that info, suddenly the idea that games across studios even under the same parent company may not readily share resources makes a lot more sense. If games under the same studio don't do it often, it only follows that different studios altogether likely wouldn't.

The way I see it is this way. Over the past couple decades the gamer society has been spoiled out the ass. They get what they want if they cry enough for it and if they don't get what they want people throw up a large enough fuss until they get their own way. Most gamers today are nothing but a bunch of spoiled brats that ruin the gamers society of the modern era. I was born in the 1980's. I grew up with Atari, Nintendo and Sega. Picture modern gamers attempting to play a console that does not have HD graphics. They probably would not even look at it. Also people jump to conclusions for almost any game with enough hype. People forget to realize that the most important factor for a gamer is your own personal enjoyment from the game. If you enjoyed it who the hell cares what other people think?

I played many MMO's in my gaming career. WoW (World of Warcraft) is the best example of a great game being ruined by a bunch of crybabies. Vanilla was great. PvP was awesome and raiding was challenging. Burning Crusade was probably the best expansion where a new world was released and introduced new things to a already great game but here is where the back broke. Introduction to resilience in PvP and arena. I hated arena and resilience and to me ruined the PvP experience to me completely. This is also where the population explosion of the spoiled gamers happened. The end of BC went downhill and the rest of the game to where it is today. Now WoW is a game that holds your hand and literally gives you everything. Epic gear lost its meaning and raiding is now a joke so I left. I played many other MMO's like Runes of Magic, Aion, Rift,I am currently trying out Tera here and there, and Star Wars the Old Republic. Another fine game ruined by spoiled brats.

In conclusion yes I am looking forward to The Elder Scrolls online. Excited? A little but I am not at the edge of my seat. Yahtzee from a show called Zero Punctuation best said" In games today I grade them as shit until they can prove themselves otherwise."  I agree 100%. In a way that may sound hypocritical to what I said above yes it is but we have the spoiled gamers to thank for that. Game companies don't take any chances because if they do the gaming society will shit all over them so in return we get shit. Just remember it may be shit to society but a long as you enjoy it nothing else should matter. Thank you all for your time.

With that it's too easy for me to enumerate reasons why I'm only playing Skyrim today -- the kindergarten dorks have ruined MMOs for me, apart from the obvious costs of online gameplay. Couple that with the "customer is right" shit to cater to the lowest common denominator, F2P, and they make more competent players leave -- those who liked the vanilla game in the first place.

I'm not saying that I rail at the game, but what I fear is the eventual watering-down and nerfing of the title, just like others before it. Around here in this region, MMOs are dime-a-dozen from China and Korea.

Last MMO I played were I truly had fun was SUN (Soul of the Ultimate Nation) and that was only because I was in a guild that only allowed mature players in it and we stuck together. The only time I had to deal with the immature children was during PVP.

ive been playing ES games since daggerfall... and i feel the franchise has been going downhill since it, sure morrowind, oblivion and skyrim where pretty games but their lore and depth just kept getting hollowed out... only saving point has been modding for which each of the games have become real gems, mods which has added depth (and adult features hehe) to the games, from survival from the elements to pretty much everything else.

Soooooo ESO? no thanks, it will not feature mods, which has been the saving grace of the ES franchise...

still reading, didn't lose you that quickly? okay how about the shitty 4 classes then? the wowcloneish setup of the continent, 3 factions with 3 races locked in 'battle' against each other, no options to mix and match the races for roleplay, the absolute lack of interesting roleplay from the start up, the console action combat...

but... the khajjit finally looks great from the start... so a plus point for that (argonians too)

would love a multiplayer/coop ES game that could be modded... so i could go questing in daggerfall/skyrim again with friends... but that is just my dream and zenimax does not have the guts to make a game i love again... only modders or someone else can

The real thing that kept elder scroll games so much fun over such a long period are the mods. You cannot mod an mmo much =/  maybe your own textures.

Another thing is how you can interact with the environment..  How much environmental interaction can they put in an mmo?   And if it exists, chances are you'll probably see phallic sculptures made out of cups and vases everywhere or something.

I'm very skeptical about how great it will be. That being said, I am looking forward to the final product and will possibly play it.

I agree almost all you said.

Only i have different opinion about daggerfall vs morrowind ive also first played Daggerfall all tho it was awesome in some ways it also had alot more bugs and empty space, i was at the time also occupide with Asheron's call so maybe that has little to do with interest the year Morrowind came i completely lost myself in that world for first time game was presented with graphics that blow me away plus i thought the exploring part was so much greater then daggerfall.

But that offocorse is matter of taste and experience you can't realy argue about some like this some like that.

But on topic im also a old school player and specially with MMO's if it limit my experience like ESO(wowish clone to me) do i stay away as if its a desease:P

I agree to a co-op game like they've set up for the dungeons, but for an MMO for the game overall, I'm not as impressed if they come out like a WOW type game

I also wish to state that most players want a co-op option so they can play with their friends, only problem with ESO is.....Well everyone, it means people will be going after the monsters you are and do on and so forth, which kinda ticks people off and makes them rage quit, so at the end of the day, adding a new game with a co-op setting in the menu would be much preferred to a MMO in my opinion
