Guest Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 I've seen a few forum meltdowns over the years but last night's was a bravura example of a brain violently farting itself into a liquid state. I hope the member in question wasn't last night's designated driver. And the servers are still utterly awful. It took me 3 hours to manually download a 10mb file last night. It really is getting to the point where my experience of the Nexus is all front page flash and no download action. MO downloads have about an 80% chance of timing out regardless of what time of day I try to download, and manual ones aren't any better. I don't know about you guys but I'm taking a lot more interest in other sites these days, I just pop into the Nexus to see what's occurring, then I look to see if I can get the file elsewhere.
TheBlueBlazes Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 Definitely one of the more entertaining forum meltdowns I've seen in a while. Made for fantastic morning reading with mah coffee. Keep calm and potatoe on.
Guest Omega1084 Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 Downloads are still fine for me. Then again all I'm downloading is a single 4mb mod whenever it updates. I'm sure the Nexus, like bad weeds, will persevere. Kinda like how Ganon always comes back somehow. But, you can't have good without bad and I'd rather the Nexus 'tards stay in the Nexus as opposed to coming over here to shit on our cereal.
Guest Mogie56 Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 shhhh don't look now...but there already here..................half concealed by pornographi...................stay back adbot...I'm warning you, don't come any clos..................ahhhhhhhhhhh
RitualClarity Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 Because the evil owner of the orphanage was using it to store oil barrels and not feed the kids with the extra cash instead choosing to force them into child labor as they slowly died to malnutrition and rampant disease due to the out houses being in their work environment and only emptied 5 times a year until such a time as a aforementioned crazed German blitzkriegd a train into them killing them all? Or was it the family of baby ducks blowing up that wasn't funny? Literally, a German Shit Show. Well, atleast he got his stuff removed from the mod selection here. How ironic would it be if Dante was screwing with him and in the end doesn't allow him to re-upload his shit there? After the bridge burning he pulled here i doubt that even the moderation staff here would allow him back, even they have limits to the bullshit they allow at LL. He is on Tes something or another. He will likely stay there regardless. As for Nexus if he groveled enough and someone else is uploading and managing his mods DarkOne shouldn't have a problem. I believe the problem was with Radnoc Not his files. Now that someone else has authorization to manage his files there DarkOne should be happy now. I doubt that LL moderators or even Ashal himself will prevent him from returning. I have been here awhile and seen many meltdowns and delete of accounts only to see those individuals come back in a couple of months. Basically unless he got banned ( which I don't believe he did, he left on his on accord) he could come back. Hell even if banned .. one member came back for months before getting banned again. Lets keep in mind LL isn't Nexus. They will many times give you a second chance. Probation or whatever.
Guest carywinton Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 They're considering moving everything to a CDN. We'll see how that turns out. Of course costs will go up so that might mean trying to make a paid membership more appealing and a free membership not so much. Turns out your were right ---> http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/news/12375/? Lets hope the people whom manage their CDN network aren't the same ones currently running the servers, perhaps then things might actually stay working. It would seem that either DarkOne in fact does have a brain or was prompted very well, the explanation given and the statistics quoted match what I would expect to happen with such a huge influx of users. I cannot say I totally blame the Nexus Administration staff in this case, it would seem the load during that given time frame was more than expected and would have been nearly impossible to "throttle" to any satisfactory results. Obviously they are now using a "Cluster Farm" of servers for files, this is a very good move on their part and utilizing the "Cloud" technology may also in turn become helpful. Adding in five additional file servers is a very large expense, but they are willing to do it anyway. It's hard to fault a group that is obviously trying to get things right. As to using a CDN management service, this is actually doable for them with no repercussions from Zenimax Corp. How is that? They will not be "selling" the mods, just the service, a very grey area not well covered in the EULA. This is almost exactly how Valve got started with the Steam Client. Fortunately for them, they had their "own" flagship game(s) to start with as "Seed". As to the obvious "meltdown" , glad I missed it, but it made for an almost entertaining read if not for some serious flaws in "What I contributed, etc and I worked in this or that, with no substantial proof as a foundation".
RitualClarity Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 Well Dark one did have a point. The regular web pages did hold out regardless of the traffic during the steam sale. He did fix this. He has finally come to the realization that his buddies and hired help to run multiple servers and such is just way too much for them at the level they are at and continue to grow at any reasonable rate. Customers are being lost each day by frustration ..He is having 3,500 to 4.500 new members on average sign up each day.. That is a heavy load. Way more than a few individuals can handle. He even admits this change ( which by the way I agree with corespore is a good move. ) in this statement "Moving to a CDN places this responsibility in the hands of a team of qualified individuals who are much better suited for the job,". Yes individuals more suited for the job. He even has flexibility for bandwidth for Steam sales and such with just an added cost. ( which he will likely get from advertisers and possibly new premium members ). I agree with Corespore. I am sure others mentioned this to him before. .. however now he is being properly "prompted" or perhaps he has finally realized that Nexus has grown way tool large for him and a bunch of buddies to manage properly. Now if they do completely move over to the CDN system bandwidth won't be their problem. Any problems after this move will be squarely on them and their setup. I really hope they get some help with that and set it up properly. There is really no reason for constant problems with basic functionality.
RitualClarity Posted July 15, 2014 Posted July 15, 2014 You still have the Banned from Nexus thread... I am sure that if he and his friends aren't working on the servers 24/7.. ( except when on vacation ) They will find more time to search out and ban individuals. . Then while they are at it they will start searching the threads and downloads for anything that is remotely unacceptable as well when there is slow traffic. Got to optimize the time don't he?
Guest carywinton Posted July 15, 2014 Posted July 15, 2014 Ah yes he will , but he will probably have to answer to the CDN folks then, which means his "Ultimate Banning" days will be over. There will be "bean counters" and investors then, I see IPO in their future with the right money pushing them all out.
RitualClarity Posted July 15, 2014 Posted July 15, 2014 I don't see a problem pointing out when some company is basically crap in their service. It is a fact. Nexus goes down more than the corner whore. If that fact changes and they become the company that they can become then yes then then deserve to be recognized for their achievements and not before. These changes like others proposed in the past were "pie in the sky" that never actually worked out and solved their problems. Many actually made it worse. It is entirely possible that he will mess this up as well. The company used, implementation, whatever. I hope he is finally figuring out that it is better that he lets someone else work that end of the company and free himself to other issues, concerns or even vacations. At this stage it is far more effective money-wise to have someone else service the site than him. Here's to hoping that he truly realizes this.
Kendo 2 Posted July 15, 2014 Posted July 15, 2014 Well, we are talking about Dark0ne here. If anything, he'll manage to fuck it up somehow and then blame someone else for it. For all of the 'improvements' Dark0ne happily takes credit for there is a cornucopia of epic failures that are 100% not his fault....according to him. The bright side of this might be accountants that pull the plug on Dark0ne and his staff's 'my-way-or-the-highway-you-broke-a-rule-I-just-made-up' bullshit. The idea is to keep customers, not validate the egos of Dark0ne's little Nexus Nerd Cool Kid clique. I can imagine Nexus becoming more like Steam. IF that happens Nexus will die, since corporations deal on another level and adult mods won't make the cut. The ONLY thing Nexus has over Steam at this point is a lot of mods based on nude body replacers. Nude mods are what makes Nexus. They are the most viewed and most downloaded for any BethSoft game Nexus allows mods for. If the corporate types take that away...well...WHAT HAPPENS? *sniggers*
Guest carywinton Posted July 15, 2014 Posted July 15, 2014 I was thinking it might be a possible "porn" conglomerate that sees the opportunity to enter in a whole new marker, "LL" might be on their list as well.. Nothing like corporate to small entity absorption.
Cynical Misanthrope Posted July 15, 2014 Posted July 15, 2014 Thats a really small a wiener. I would go with something like this in the ass instead:
Hamguy31 Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 Atleast they have Faster download speeds than this site.
Guest endgameaddiction Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 That all depends on someone's connection, not just servers. And if this is coming from a nexus premium member, I'd hope so. Otherwise you are just throwing dollars into the wrong hands. Throw them this way instead. That way we can rent servers here and your time will be more worthwhile than a no handed hooker giving you air job.
mkprovince Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 Corespore is 3 posts away from 1337. Say, what is 1337? I've seen it so many times lately that I got curious.

It's a mutation of the word 'elite' using numbers to replace letters. 1 for i or l, 7 for t, 3 for e. 4 for a, 6 for b, 5 for s, 0 for o (srsly). elite eleet leet 1337

On Nexus i get full 1mb when downloading on non-premium on this site i struggle for a minute to download a 300kb file.

On Nexus i get full 1mb when downloading on non-premium on this site i struggle for a minute to download a 300kb file. has that been consistent over the past two years? or that's just what you got the last time you downloaded from Nexus. that seems a bit off since the DL servers are off line 80% of the time. I live close to the server I download from and 90% of the time it struggles to even finish a download much less at that type of speed for non-premium which is throttled. most other sites I too get a 1mb to 1.5mb download speed, of course that depends on it's location.

Download speeds are lot better for me here than the nexus. And most of the time some of the downloads come from mega or what ever its called so its not even from LL its self.
DeepBlueFrog Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 The truth about Nexus servers. (Apologies if that was already posted... 69 pages is a lot to go through ).
Guest Omega1084 Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 Meow meow. I still haven't seen our departed best buddy put his shit on Nexus. I mean really, it actually would be a bit depressing if he stomped on everyone's necks for no results. I could understand pushing someone down some stairs for a Klondike bar but doing it for free is just pointless evil. Depressing? Bullpotatoes. I'd love to see him be trolled by Dante or D0rky.

Considering even Dark0ne has had to repeatedly acknowledge there's a huge elephant in the room, this anecdote of yours goes a long way in restoring my faith in faeries and mermaids.

Yeah, I'm at 23kb/s right now :/ Although in reading pages 60-69 of this thread all my downloads actually finished and I didn't even notice :L Edit: On Nexus, that is
