I know and indeed the protagonist may show brutal contempt for the Brotherhood, especially because of her sister's nature, but it's a necessary evil because they put money in. During the filming of the recruitment ad, you can act in a variety of ways.

Natural, dumb as a bimbo or be a complete hater. Of course there are small consequences here and there.

Well .. yea...  but I don't get that vibe from the Children of Atom, though @vaultbait has a decent approach.

My main point is to gently influence @JB. to not take over the Far Harbor DLC.   Now, having read his response, I know he will leave at least the main quest line alone.  I prefer Nuka Ride to Nuka World, so don't mind it at all (though helping build a space ship was kinda  fun).   I think many players would agree that Nuka World sucked.....from a story line.

Though constant radiation exposure will be deadly to my PC as I reduce experience acquisition to 1% of vanilla.  Ah well, I do that to make the game extra challenging and hard, even if I am not fighting all the time.

On PC development, mine goes from swinger/former sniper (use the original FO4 plan that both were vets, Nora was a Capt, Nate was a Master SGT) to a very reluctant but willing to do anything to get info on Shaun pornstar, to a Mata Hari Femme Fatale/ Special Agent....though still with a submissive streak to the Overboss (who is going to die in my playthrough).

On a separate note, I think most long time readers may recall my Aria T'Loak story line.   Now I just need to find her outfit for FO4 and make it a NR compatible cloth item for the time that my PC rules the raiders of Nuka World.

I didn't follow the whole thread, (spoiler alert) but the idea of reconciling the children of atom and Far Harbor's citizens using the talent of a porn star is a tempting idea ?

Is it just me or does Nuka Town run more smoothly without electricity?

Those who have Nuka Ride installed can write:

cqf _NukaRide_Maintenance PowerOff

And check it. I feel it more fluid and I think I will make an option in the MCM for future users.

cqf _NukaRide_Maintenance PowerOn

to turn it back on.

JB., with regard to performance, I've been running with hundreds of active mods and hundreds more merged mods and more than half a terabyte of files in my Fallout 4 directory for a long time. And I'd been playing at 4k resolution all-ultra. For the last few playthroughs I'd been battling odd crashes. Crashes in diamond city, crashes in Nuka World, crashes at Sanctuary, more and more and more crashes. At first I thought maybe it was script incompatibilities between Nuka Ride and Problems of Survivor. And then I started thinking it was all sorts of incompatibilities.

Usually starting a new game helped for a while, and that led me to continue thinking it was script issues. But it wasn't.

I hit a stage where I couldn't walk more than a few feet without crashing, where crossing a cell boundary almost anywhere would crash.

I'd uninstalled lots of mods to see if it was some of the more recent updates, but nothing helped.

I'd tried verifying Steam cache tons of times, and it never helped. Until one time I forgot to set the resolution back to 4k. And I accidentally started up Fallout 4 in 1080p (1k) resolution, and the game became perfectly stable. No changes, just lower resolution. Then I loaded it up in 2k resolution, and no problems.

Basically, I have so many mods loaded up my PC couldn't handle it in 4k resolution anymore. I should have realized this sooner, I guess, because one of the signs I've been having for a while is Nuka World missing a lot of walls to the point where it was getting super bad no matter what load order I used.

The short of it is, if you start running into bad problems, sometimes it's not a scripting issue or an incompatibility or a bad texture. Sometimes it's just the mods are pushing the limits of what the PC or the game engine can handle.

I'm in a new playthrough now, so my character isn't in Nuka Ride yet, and I can't test it. But I can tell you I WAS having horrible Nuka Ride issues last playthrough, and those problems were not the fault of Nuka Ride. They were the fault of the straw that broke the camel's back :)

For those of us who don't know how to do this, maybe a link to instructions? I would be most appreciative!

@Karna5 and @JB. I have run into some of those issues and I don't think it is a specific mod but memory management issues.  I notice that the more I change my world via both vanilla workshops and mod workshops, my performance gets slower.   I now recognize this and will periodically stop moving for a moment, letting my system catch up.

Do you recall several years ago when Oldrym was crashing around Whiterun all the time for mod users?   The issue was a memory leak or something, that was causing huge cache files that, for 32 bit systems, proved to be too much?    I am wondering if we are pushing so many mods now a days that the main engine used by FO4 wasn't built to handle the large memory swapouts required for the changes we make in game.

Just a thought on your issue.    I have noticed that when you clean up Nuka World, it does affect performance.   Did you rebuild all the precombines in Nuka world?   I noticed you deleted one of the concrete pads near the middle fountain, which would happen to me when I did my own "cleaning" of Nuka World via portable workshops (https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/11143) so that is what makes me think you broke several, making FO4 push all those graphics the "old fashion way" which may be breaking the engine.

On a side note,  there is a mod that has more concrete options to replace that spot next to the fountain.   I use Stairs Ladders Ramps (https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/10495) which has something pretty close to the concrete used in Nuka World.

Hi :)

Display settings in Fallout 4 are set when you launch not through a mod manager nor through F4SE but when you launch directly from Steam. You'll get a smaller menu which you don't get loading the full F4SE version. It's also where you can set the Low/Medium/High/Ultra/Custom display settings as well.

2k resolution is:  2560x1440 (this is stable for me)

4k resolution, which I used for years but became unstable, is 3840x2160

I love 4k resolution and still use it in all other games, but for Fallout 4 I have to tone it down :)

Steam always picks those settings for me, I did not know one could interject instruction there. Good to know. Thank You.

@Karna5  I have not dialed down because I have (or had, my PC is several years old) a powerful rig, but, yea, we may just be asking too much from the Fallout engine.  I am hoping one of the programmer experts here on LL can solve the memory management issue.

However, do you have this mod Baka ScrapHeap - Script Memory Limit Expander (https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/46340?tab=description)?  I just downloaded it and will try it out.

I haven't tried it but would love to hear how it works out for you :)

I think for me it's related to how many textures are in my game. I have a 3080 Nividia graphics card, but as you indicated, I suspect the actual limit is in the game engine itself.

For years I've juggled how much I preload in game and how much I allow to load as needed.

For instance, you probably know that anything packed into a BA2 archive is preloaded when you start the game, and anything loose file is not loaded until you need it. However, too many loose files loaded at once can crash your game, and the more you have in BA2 archives the more the game is carrying around even when not needed.

Technically loose files are better, but they're tricky to use because you need to spread them out in multiple directories (because they're not indexed, and too many unindexed files at once will lag the game to the point of crashing).

I reached a stage where even a brand new game was crashing taking a few steps out of the vault. Reducing my video settings from 4k to 2k solved the issue, but I don't think it's my graphics card which can't handle it. I think it's Fallout 4 itself.

I'm just glad there's a solution that doesn't require uninstalling everything and adding a few mods at a time. I really do have more than a half terabyte of mods installed in my Fallout 4 *laughs* so starting over isn't feasible.

If you find that mod really makes the game capable of handling more mods I'll give it a shot, but otherwise I doubt I'll try it on my own as my game is stable again :)

Don't forget to disable "Buffout" memory management before installing ScrapHeap.

Most Likely the game engine (or maybe single core performance) because i can get FPS drop when my CPU/GPU are at 40% load or less

Perhaps this has been noted before and I just don't remember, but I just had a fun time with Cave Crickets since Music was way out at the tree house when I started the Gage mission.   Basically I wanted to change the tats, so I decided to go to Music.   Once I got there, she acted as if we were in her studio and said "sit in the chair".     Unfortunately, there is zero chance of me surviving going back to Nuka World (a herd of Brahmin were destroying the Pack guards that I aggro trained in. )

Anyway, I guessing this isn't a bug, just one of those "You shouldn't ever travel outside of Nuka world by yourself" things.   My PC did manage to kill all three cave crickets because of poor enemy AI and pathfinding, plus I am using a powerful Anti Material Rifle.      I guess making that "can't use weapons while wearing NR outfits" a requirement rather than an option is a good idea.

Hello JB. After I updated to the latest version, I upgraded the animation package and translated Nuka Ride.esp to Simplified Chinese. Then the problem arises, I can't speed up the character dialogue in any way during the Nuka Ride plot, and the dialogue character's mouth has no animation and sound. Fortunately, there was no flashback during the whole process.

@vaultbait

I was wondering if you could help me with a little script.

I have an actor with whom my character finished an AAF scene.

OnSceneEnd
if (statuscheck == 0)
Actor[] actors = Utility.VarToVarArray(akArgs[1]) as Actor[]
Endif

What I want to do now is, take his actor and compare it to a formlist.

If the actor is in that formlist, the script will run a special function.

Good afternoon, in the punishment quest, I follow lyons and nothing happens next, what should I do?

Tell me more. Lyons started walking and stopped somewhere?

Write this down and show me what you get (I want to know your current stage).

Sqv _NukaRide_Punishment

Posted (edited)

I just checked it and there is an error in the triggerbox.

Write this to correct it:

SetStage _NukaRide_Punishment 330

(and wait  8  seconds)

Thanks, I'll have it corrected for the next version.
