sounds cool, thanks... you too obviously lol

good news, having someone else to help with stuff that has already been done is better than trying to recreate the wheel... i hope the guys helps you out with it etc., good luck.

Yeah, I really do hope he agrees to help, though if not, back to the preset plan lol.

Hey don't worry about it, donate whatever amount you're cool with, whenever you feel comfortable doing so. And btw thanks for your interest in my project :)

Update March 1rst:

Taking it easy today, my GF needs some attention so don't expect too much work from me today lol...And I still haven't heard back from the guy I mentioned before, but will still hopefully get a reply soon. btw Tomorrow morning I should have a few hours of freedom before I get mugged again, so I'll try to get some more (or most) of the body modeling done :)

Posted

Look forward with this game!

I have suggestion about the body model:

index.php?app=core&module=attach&section

It will be better and more realistic if you can make it slimmer from the side. Or just copy-paste from many great female body mesh in Oblivion and Skyrim. Tweaked more to make it better. Low polygon model but with properly perfect shape and realistic is far far better than a high polygon model but wrong on everything. Oblivion have a great variety of realistic female breast models you can copy.

And don't forget the male body should be more variety too, from big bodybuilder to big fat. Usually many porn game don;t care about male body and somehow......smaller than the woman body.

Hmm, I mentioned earlier that I wanted to try my own custom models, so copying from skyrim/oblivion would not be ideal for me. And forgive me if I'm misunderstanding, but you want it slimmer where exactly? At the waist or you just want the body thinner in general? Also not sure what you mean by saying the low poly with perfect shape vs (I'm guessing you're referring to my high poly model) high poly that you think is wrong in everything? Ouch lol if that's the case...

Also yeah weight slider for males will be in too, though don't expect the morphs to be too extreme there though. Oh and do remember that player males will not be added until much later.

That said, glad you're looking forward to the game :)

I will keep on supporting this moral though :) hard to come up with money here in the ph

Np, moral support is fine by me ;)

And with that, I'm off to do some modeling

Posted

I'll add moral support!  Really looking forward to this.  Definitely the sort of game that can take a life of its own, so there are all sorts of possibilities.

I've sort of been silently following this project for a bit and I just would like to say that this is looking really good! :) Best of luck!

Thanks, it sounds silly, but hearing things like this really gets me excited to work on things. Kinda a nice confidence booster I guess lol.

Cool glad to hear you like it so far, and please don't be afraid to comment when you feel like it. All comments for the most part are welcome here lol.

edit

Also having a programming buddy assist tomorrow with some inventory/hud stuff that I've been struggling with recently. So hopefully, I'll get some more work done on those.

Player customisation via morphs?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AzQAIKIgq2Y

Must be, coz I can see your post :P

The difficulty comes from having to create multiple clothing morphs, in addition to the player ones :(

This is one of the reasons I have been toying with using bones instead of morphs - easier to create additional clothing.

Aside form the morphs, he users a bunch of instanced materials to great affect.

There are a couple of other examples floating around on the UDK forums - one involving bones, another using normal maps. They aren't quite as in depths as this one though.

Yeppers that's the one lol. While bones are nice, morph targets give a lot more control over the end result. That's why I was trying to contact him to see what his methods/techniques were.

I'm still just trying to gauge bone based changes vs morph targets. And don't get me wrong, both are valid approaches from what I've seen, but I would really like to pick things apart before I fully commit to either. If that makes sense to you :P

Update March 4th:

Was going to pimp some weather effects today, but realized that it wasn't going to work too well on a larger environment (http://nooooooooooooooo.com/). Soo I gotta try another approach to accomplish it. I have the ideas on what I want/need to do, I just gotta start over again though lol. So I figured I'd tell you guys what I was up to.

Ah, the process of having to start over from scratch... Reminds me when a specific class of class file will simply not work regardless of what changes you make to it, forcing one you start over.

I feel your pain.

It happens, just gotta tough it out lol. The vader button helps too :D

Btw I never really explained what me and Kris spoke briefly about earlier. So in case you guys were wondering:

Bone based Morphs vs Target Morphs

As you read he was suggesting the bone based ones, now as to why?

With bones, you only need to fit the one clothing mesh to it and you're good to go on the customization stuff. Nice and quick.

This comes at the price of quality when say scaling things like breasts up. See skyrim's more extreme body scaling mods and you'll see what problems I'm talking about. I would imagine that there are ways around this, or just ways to hide/diminish the effect, but I haven't looked into it enough yet to say with that with too much accuracy lol.

Now as for the morph targets, I have to do something different for the same/similar effect.

Where as with the bones you would simply shrink/grow/adjust them as you need to get the look you want, Morph targets have to be to created. For example where the bones could be made to make the (One) mesh look thin, fat, or muscular; a Morph Target's body would require a new body per morph. So 1 fat body, 1 fit body, and 1 thin body.

Think of it as blending between different meshes in this case. This would also likely need to be extended to each new clothing you/I would make in the future (So that's three meshes per clothing in this case).

So why go through that much extra work when bones do it in much less time/effort?

Short answer is control. I know exactly what I want, and can get exactly that as it blends between my meshes, but the downside becomes apparent very quickly. As in it requires much more effort per clothing/body than the bone based counterpart.

Now as to which one I support, idk it's tough to decide atm, but I am looking into other games to see what methods they used to hopefully educate myself a bit more on it. (This is also why I was trying to contact that guy I mentioned earlier)

That said, it is starting to look like a blending of both may be the best option. Though like I mentioned, I need to do some more researching before I really can decide what's "best". Hope you guys found that informative/helpful or if I just said a lot of really false/stupid things, feel free to correct me lol (I'm sorry, still learning here :P)

btw

I may be retrying the body model. If I fail to get something better, then I'll stick with what I got. I just wanna try some things a bit differently and see if the results are any better. Luckily for me I actually kinda enjoy this part of the game dev lol. For those of you curious, here's how I rate my enjoyment of game dev stuff (1-5, 1 being "fun", 5 being "oh great, this again")

1. Level design

2. Modeling

3. Texturing

4. Anything to do with Scaleform

5. Coding

and with that I'm off for today. Have a good night everybody :)

edit for a quick question

you guys said you wanted futa earlier, and I wanted to ask for a preference on balls. Should they be there too, or no? I honestly could care less either way, but I wanted to hear where you guys stood on this so I have some actual input to go off of lol

I think a good rig and thoughtful scaling, bones could be as good as morphs, yet reduce the amount of extra meshes required.

Of course, a 'good rig' is easier said then done :P

Got any examples of your modeling work floating about?

Yeah, good rigging is definitely easier said than done lol

Besides what I uploaded here no, not yet. Why need something? :P

Now as to why: I'm just not too big on uploading pics without reason (I'm a bit overly critical of my work lol). So this game is the first time I've had a legit reason to start taking pics of my work and uploading it.

btw Update March 5th:

checked out the sims games and found that they use a combo of both bones and morphs. They have the three morphs (Fit, base/normal, and fat), and then additional bones for more customization like breasts/hips and stuff, at least this is what I was told over at the sims forums.

Also no one has an opinion on the futa stuff? Let me know or I'm just going to go with whatever I feel like when I'm modeling later lol

I personally have no interest in the futa option. But that's me. I'm also only interested in the male zombie on female survivor aspect, and not in the multiplayer aspect at all. So maybe I'm too picky to be the one to be basing any decision on. XD

Posted

Personally, I would like a futa option due to a distaste for males in sexual situations.

Ok, and for the futa, would you prefer them to have or not have balls?

lol seems that way doesn't it, but don't worry there will be male zombies down the line. Now after this though I got an idea, make a toggle for male or futa zombies, just to allow people to avoid the stuff they don't like. I think it would definitely be worth the time to figure it out for you guys. Because when it cums to stuff like this, it's prob weird if you're NOT too picky lol.

Hmm, that seems to be the question I can never make up my ind about. Personally, I couldn't care less either way even though I know people make a big deal out of it. I think you should do whatever will be easiest on you and I know that is a cop out but it keeps me from being decisive on he issue.

Hmm, well I'll let this sit for a bit before pushing forward. So if you have a comment on this, please speak up now or you'll miss your chance lol. Oh btw on the topic of which is easier = no balls
