Anon989 Posted February 8, 2013 Author Posted February 8, 2013 Update Feb 8th Still alive over here, feeling a lil better now too. Started looking into making a main menu, but this scaleform menu stuff is far from simple...Still will try to work my way through it when I'm feeling up for it. Â Also I've got a question for you guys: Day/Night Cycle, how long should it be? Like skyrim's 1min = 1 hour deal or something different? Â edit nvm I decided on my own lol
Anon989 Posted February 8, 2013 Author Posted February 8, 2013 A quick video of the Eye Adaption effect and the Sprinting mechanic http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aS_SKfhzD2M
banshe Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 I gotta say, that eye adaptation effect is pretty sweet. I can already see it, a survivor lurking in the dark, following lustful moans, only to spot a helpless woman, laying on a corner with a zombie over her as her eyes finally adapt to the dark. It would also bring in some kind of danger when entering dark environments, if there is the kind of zombie who lays 'dead' on the floor only to spring on you when you pass by. If you rush in you might just trip on one of those.

Glad you like it, and yeah the possibilities are definitely there for some scary/surprise moments  Btw I've been looking around for inspiration on the character modeling and I think I found a style I might use:  [spoiler=Image]   And just to note this is not my model, just an image I found, but I really like the art style. So what do you guys think if I based/attempted to mimic my character models on that?

It would be such a waiste of an already awesome graphical, and gameplay mechanic acheivment on your part. The MC would be much better suited in the vein of the revamped Lara Croft of 2013 (In my pinion. Interested in what others think). How amazing would/can this game be if we the player became emotionaly invested in some way with the character? If you're looking for some inspirational art I could mock up some sketches for you.  Amazing work so far. Looks like you might have stollen the show. Can't wait to see more  P.S. Glad you're feeling better. Don't go dieing on us! You've gotta finish the game first  P.P.S. (No punn intended). I enjoy the idea of the bladder system, for realism purposes. Piss porn has never really been my thing. But hey! It's the Zexie apocalypse! Let your imagination run wild! I'll piss on a Zombie! I dun cur!
alako Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 Oh wow, the graphic looks great! I might need to save up some money for a new display card.
banshe Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 I kinda agree with Pacesetter, I think a more 'realistic' graphic design, like Lara Croft or, if we're discussing environment, Half-Life 2, than a anime/cartoon design. At least that's how I pictured it. Maybe because of the UDK resources that are used in your tech demos for lighting and such.
Guest pacesetter2012 Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 Shes usage unrestricted. Might give you a better idea of your anims, and give an inspirational oompf when editing. I've never used the UDK, but porting shouldn't be too hard. Not sure if she's pre rigged. Â http://www.sharecg.com/v/37787/browse/5/3D-Model/Tia-%28-human-girl-V-%29 Â Plenty of other models to use as well.
slimbones Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 Personally love that graphic style. Won't mind something realistic but its very easy to cross over into uncanny valley. Maybe something like a mix between to two http://chan.sankakucomplex.com/post/show/1810465 http://chan.sankakucomplex.com/post/show/1308107

Piss porn has never really been my thing. But hey! It's the Zexie apocalypse! Let your imagination run wild! I'll piss on a Zombie! I dun cur!  Yeah I should've been more clear, no your main character will not be a schoolgirl, though that is similar to one of the three starts I had planned. Though the only school in my game would've been a college rather than high school. I used those images as I just liked the way the art style looked, since it closely matched what I initially wanted to use for this. So again to be clear, no this is not some random High School of the Dead knockoff lol. btw thanks for your support  I kinda agree with Pacesetter, I think a more 'realistic' graphic design, like Lara Croft or, if we're discussing environment, Half-Life 2, than a anime/cartoon design. At least that's how I pictured it. Maybe because of the UDK resources that are used in your tech demos for lighting and such. Would a slightly more toony art style be so bad? I mean I could give it a more realistic look, but that will mean I'll be having to bump the graphics up, and with that comes much longer Dev times on the models/textures/materials and such.  Feel free to debate it though, I'm still up for changing it if you guys really think it would be worth it.  Personally love that graphic style. Won't mind something realistic but its very easy to cross over into uncanny valley. Maybe something like a mix between to two http://chan.sankakucomplex.com/post/show/1810465 http://chan.sankakucomplex.com/post/show/1308107 I really liked that second pic lol. Perhaps a cross of that and something slightly more realistic...idk lol. Will have to brainstorm some ideas on it.   edit btw sickness is back again today, so apparently it wasn't through with me yet lol. Will be resting up the rest of today, so I'll try to be back on/working tomorrow.
banshe Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 Hmm, let's see how I can put this, I'm not art expert but here we go: What I meant to say by anime design was say your generic anime: Big eyes, sharp nose and chin, etc. Where as a more 'realistic' design would be more along the lines of western animation? Like say, Samus. I'm not really suggesting photo-realistic textures or anything of the sort. That one would probably require more resources and, as someone said in a post before, pushes us too close to the uncanny valley. Â Trying to think of an older game design that could be a good example here but I'm having a hard time XD... How about Oblivion itself? I'll keep thinking but, worry not I'm not suggesting some "Metal Gear Solid" realism here. Â Taking that second picture from Slimbones' post as an example; The bodies are fine for instance, but then come the anime shaped heads/facial features. In the end though you'll have to see what you like to do the most, or what works better for you. To be honest, a full anime-styled design wouldn't stop me from playing. Hell, I might even like it down the road (We've all read doujins I suppose, yes?). I just have a preference that leans away from anime facial design.
Queen Bee Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 I also would prefer a more realistic design for the main character. The anime thing has kind of gotten old for me, especially when it comes to adult games. That Asian design pacesetter2012 linked is a good one, though I'd love the ability to customize your character and make her whatever nationality the player prefers.
Anon989 Posted February 10, 2013 Author Posted February 10, 2013 Hmm, what about the art style in the game Catherine? That seems like a nice cross between normal and toon. It definitely seemed a bit more toned down compared to those other anime/manga looking pics, would that be any better?  Let me hear your opinions on this last one, and then I'll try to decide. Though honestly, the more I think about it, the more realistic look doesn't seem too bad.  btw Thanks for all your opinions again so far. They help me a lot  edit After thinking about it some more, yeah I'll do a more realistic look. May take more time, but it'll prob look a lot nicer in the long run.
grumbler Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 I am not sure I care much for the "manage your bladder" concept - it seems to me that this would be something well below the scale of the other decisions made in the game; when would you decide not to pee when necessary? Â I'd also like to press for the clothing damage/replacement concept, especially after combat with grappling enemies. Â If combined with a system of neutral or friendly NPCs, this could lead to some interesting choices: Â does the player continue with damaged or missing clothing, knowing that (say) normally-neutral NPCs will attack them if they appear too vulnerable, or do they retrace their steps to a clothing store and so lose time from the main quest they were on? Â The element of neutral and friendly NPCs could add some interesting decision-making to the player's task as well; he/she couldn't just attack all NPCs seen, as attacking friendly or neutral NPCs would turn that faction hostile. This could also add an element of decision-making in that the PC could give themselves over to an offended friendly/neutral faction for punishment (in which case the faction is no longer hostile) but risk being, say, enslaved if the faction tuns out to be too highly offended to accept mere punishment as a payback for the offense. Â The overall effect would be to make the fight/not fight mechanic something a gamble, at least until the PC figures out the lay of the land (and that lay could be randomized somewhat for replayability).
banshe Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 Well, about the bladder matter, we could bring up the fact that even if you do "go in the woods", there will still be some measure of scent that may attract zombies to the area. (After all, animals use it to mark their territory with pheromones, therefore, there has to be some smell to it), which would be dangerous. The best bet would be a bathroom break in a safehouse. But what if the nearest safehouse is like a mile away. Do you stop, pull your pants down and kneel in a bush to take care of business right there, potentially attracting enemies, or do you  try to hold it, potentially losing control along the way, wetting yourself, and then, well, pee in your pants will call much more attention than anywhere else.
Erena Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 Not much to add, just that it's continuing to look great! Though I have to admit, I'm looking forward to come of the more... porn-related images.

Gotta get all the setup stuff done before I can really start put out the adult focused stuff. So I apologize for the wait, but I hope it will be worth it  Moving on tho. Update for Feb 10th:  Day/Night Cycle (It's sped up for the video) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QJWizpBZZ3M btw I used a new file type for the video to cut down on upload times, so let me know if the quality seems off on anything.
banshe Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 Dat sunset and sunrise. Only one thing I noted, I don't think its really an issue but I figured I'd bring it up. Night seems rather bright. Now I figured that it may be because the ground is a standard blue and white texture, light from the moon reflects on the ground and makes the whole thing seem brighter, so maybe when its an actual ground like dirt or grass or, well I don't know what environments you plan on putting, but I guess then it'll be darker. Guess we'll see.

Anon989 Posted February 12, 2013 Author Posted February 12, 2013 Update Feb 11th Redid/Finished the Stamina System...now works as intended lol

Anyone who has been camping knows that it isn't a big deal to dig a small hole, pee/poop/whatever, and then cover it up.  I guess this is a fetish for some people, but to me trying to manage this is like trying to manage your snot:  "do you blow your nose now, and maybe alert a zombie, or risk sneezing later and have even a better chance to attract a zombie?"  that kind of decision isn't my cup of tea.  Shoot/negotiate/run/avoidt shoot is my cup of tea.
banshe Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 Well, I have to admit I have never gone camping... and that sounds pretty smart, lol. But ah, y'know, just trying to give bladder system a meaning in case enough people asked, just so it wasn't a feature without purpose.

Though I'm not sure if that would be fair as some people wouldn't be needing to deal with it while others would.  I'd need more opinions on that. (This is where you guys come in again lol)
slimbones Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 I think bladder meter is going a bit to deep that could could be mod or addon.
slimbones Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 might be a dumb question but what made you decide to make the main character female. I've always wondered why in most elderscroll games guys decide to play females and sex mods focus more on females. You would think guys would prefer to play guys lol. two other questions. - will there be any consensual sex like in the safe zones. - will sex scences just be click and watch or will there be any kind of controls. (on the second screenshot i posted for models on page 2. that sex game is called schoolmate 2 it has a simple and effective sex system.)
