I've donated a few bux here and there, in order to get better download speeds during reinstall events. They're not "Evil,"

You'd better provide evidence before accusing particular sites of anything.

It's not the site itself, it's when ad-servers get hijacked and malware gets injected into ads. The site usually has no control over what ads come from which server.

Nexus provides the space for ads to be displayed

ad firms rent the space

said firms have their own ad servers

those get infected with malware

Which means nexus can serve as a vector to spread that shit without the site being infected with anything.

Your argument is based on two misconceptions.

1) I wasn't accusing the site, but one of it's commercial affiliates, it has been known to happen many times before, on many sites. In fact I host most of my mods there and use it actively; and have never been critical about them, unless it was warranted.

2) The added words 'most likely' in my initial post indicate that there's no form of certainty in my statement, meaning there's no need to provide proof.

In *my* day they'd pump up their cb radio and say

"nyaaaaah!!!!!"

In any case someone that doesn't value their own time, considering how they chose to spend it.

Nothing LL can do about it, but you can report bad ads and what not over here:

https://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/forum/4100-report-bad-ads/

Intel they want:

Quote

What we need:

  • Let us know what anti-malware/adware/virus software you have on your PC and ensure you've run a scan that returns clean before reporting the ad to us.
  • The date and time you saw this ad.
  • The URL of the page you were on at the time, e.g. http://www.nexusmods.com/games/?
  • Your general location - e.g. I live in Exeter, in Devon, in England. If you don't want to give the city you live in, then your state and country will suffice, e.g. Devon, England.
  • A good description of what is happening that makes you think this is a bad ad. An example might be, "I was browsing the site, but immediately upon loading the page at http://www.nexusmods.com/games/? I was redirected to another website that told me I had a virus on my PC that I had to pay money to remove".
  • If you get redirected or sent to another site, provide the URL that you are sent to.
  • A screenshot of the bad ad really, really, REALLY helps us out as well. Please take the time to do a print-screen or use the snipping tool in windows (press the start menu, type "snipping", click "snipping tool") and upload it to your report for us to view. The snipping tool is an extremely simple and intuitive piece of software for taking pictures of what's on your screen.

This is so fucking dumb. Nexus doesn't even ban the mention of LL any more.

Seriously. What does the problem boil down to any more? Clicks? Culture?

Certainly not content.

Would you Ideologues just leave the rest of us the fuck alone?

(LoL)

Personally this hasn't happened to me, at least not that i can recall. Nexus right now is doing the weird little pop up video playing boxes type ads, it's annoying but not too much, though at times i feel like removing Nexus from my adblock's exclusion list.

Well, Avast considers the site safe no matter how much i refresh, and it is prone to overreactions.

So i guess it's fixed or McAfee is even more paranoid :P

not only!
also Nexus distributes Malware in uploaded mods!
most mods are scanned for viruses, but there are some which are not scanned!
intended, that is the question?
Here's an example, this mod was not scanned. :classic_wink:

Sorry, you are naive and trust Nexus!
a few years ago I downloaded a mod from Nexus, there was a very malicious virus in this mod.
this virus almost destroyed my computer, only with the help of a computer specialist the hardware could be rescued in my PC.
after that there was trouble with Nexus! :classic_wink:

Oh yeah, They were not exactly enthusiastic, when I presented a bill of over 300 euros. :classic_laugh:
you must know, Nexus then still belonged to the EU.
Now it will be more difficult to sue money. :classic_wink:

McAfee is pretty much the worst of the worst, especially when you use the free version.

And since this thread has moved off topic (and the topic question is irrelevant to LL) the thread is closed.

Cheers!
