Been getting CTD when trying to get riverwood. I have followed this guide in all but installing DynDOLOD and the mods in the list associated with it. Checking through now and I am confident this issue will be resolved but just trying to save time.

Never needed to do a bashed patch or convert something. ?

You absolutely need a Bashed Patch using Wrye Bash 308b4 or a merged patch using SSEEdit 4.0x or later.  Or both. Override conflict patches exist for very valid reasons and that's why we expend hours if not years of effort making these tools.

You also definitely need to convert Oldrim mods. Quite a few record data types changed between LE an SSE and symptoms can vary

I'll be happy to discuss any of this with you on technical terms if you'd like.

So I gave up, I tried to follow it step by step and afterwards and I can't even get a new start.

By launching the game without any mod activated in MO2 by steam I'm instead of tick in the cart and the helgen door stays closed.

By trying with SKSE and running fnis everything is frozen. So I came back and saw the list of mods and the my brain told me ( don't even try! ) :)

I'll stick with Vortex and LE, it crashes often but much more accessible.

Anyway I'm still impressed by your creations, happy holidays.

I get your angst: I tried going back to LE, but oddly enough LE crashes when I pick "new" - and none of my old saves worked, even after a clean install. Otherwise I'd have gone back myself, but my SE is working now, so I'll leave it as-is. It IS enough to make you want to tear your hair out isn't it?

Wondering if Aylis has disappeared? Their last post was at the end of August. There are a lot of mods in this list that are no longer available on Nexus. Just hoping everything is okay with them.

@Berserkologist

I've spent a ton of time going through the LotDPlus guide. It's great and all but it doesn't feature any LL mods, and I need computerized boobs in my life. But some of the mods in that guide look like they would be great with Aylis's.

Is there any chance to get some already set up and working re-pack of this version of Skyrim somewhere?

as a still newer "dowloader of mods" i had ur idea too xd

however...this is not a version of skyrim, its just a guideline for new players to add mods.

i guess it would be possible to repack a modded game and make it available however it would be an off-steam version - so without updates the version would be not compatible with further mods. the next big problem is that a heavily modded game is very depended on the system it was assembled... meaning its going to work on one system but not on everybody elses, it would bring up other problems that you would have to solve in order to play... its just easier to mod your game urself as every problem that comes up is already covered in guides and every major important item/program for skyrim has its own youtube install guide.

Hey, so I have/use a laptop, so I can't add any additional drivers. Is there a work-a-round for the DynDOLOD "being on a separate driver" part?

It should work but not sure if it will, but in the output path for dynalod change it to something like c:\dynalodoutput\ that should work, note the should ?

@R3dact I have DynDOLOD running on the same drive as Skyrim with no issues.

@johnny2by4 I'm partial to this one because it uses LL stuff out-of-the-box, but there are some texture mods you're not going to be able to find because this list hasn't been updated since they were taken off of Nexus. Personally I would still go with this one.

@johnny2by4 The main idea of this list was 2 fold: 1), update the game with newer textures and whatnot, and 2) give a better gaming experience. Half the mods in the list are designed to make the game look and play better, while the other half are Aylis' ideal mods for a play through. That is partially why some mods are organized into groups or marked as optional.

The list itself can be a good base for any mod list depending on what you are looking for. I would recommend keeping the Foundation, SKSE Extensions, UI, Textures and FX, Phsyics and animation, Weather and Lighting, and Lover's lab sections. These sections hold many of the foundation mods you'll need for other mods. The other sections you can pick and chose from as you like.

One thing I should point out is that a large number of the texture mods got removed by the author, and were repackaged as Skyrim HD. I made a post about it a few pages back so you can see what has changed.

yeah, i basically just used this, STEP, and LEXY guide as a base for finding mods and building patches.  this list is definitely great for sexlab mods and a lot of the tips are very useful.  i'd definitely think about skipping or at least adding onto the body section since there have been some big developments there.  3bbb seems to be the best cbbe physics body out now with decently smooth out of the box HDT.

looking at the skyrim HD mod right now, looks great but i'm hesitant to download anything that huge without knowing what i'm getting.  4k landscape textures seem pointless to me and the author isn't very forthcoming on which textures are what resolution.

Yeah, 3BBB is definitely a step up. It came out after Aylis went MIA, which is why it is not on the list. It's also a lot easier to use than the fusion girl on the FO4 side too.

Most of the mods missing from the textures section were Luxor's mods. What he ended up doing is that he took down all of his old texture mods and updated / consolidated them into Skyrim HD. He did the same thing for his FO4 stuff before he did his Skyrim stuff, and he's done a great job on both sides. He's basically touched almost everything in the game in one form or another, and is a good foundation set of textures to build upon. It's also (in my mind at least), a better alternative to noble skyrim that is in the current foundation list.

what's the performance loss over noble though?  i'm using noble 2k which is why i'm hesitant to use anything touting 4k textures.

i just finished downloading the whole pack, maybe i'll run it through CAO (which i think can downsize oversized textures?) and see what happens.

I haven't really noticed a performance difference myself, but I do have a higher end pc. I should point out that there does not seem to be that many 4k textures. The pack ranges from 1k to 4k depending on the object. I'm pretty sure that Luxor did some optimization on his own end before releasing skyrim HD. As said, I haven't seen any performance issues with Skyrim HD, so maybe try it out before messing around with it to see if it is that much of an issue.

well my 980Ti is roaring, but maybe its because of the ENB/JK skyrim/legacy of the dragonborn, i'll find out when i'm finally done trying to break my game i guess...

i'll give the textures a try, my SSD might hate me but with MO2 its not like i'm gonna break my game by testing out new textures.

If your having performance issues, I would check to see how many scripts you are running. More often then not, those are the culprit when things start to grind. I know egg factory was one I had to give up (wasn't a big fan of it to begin with) cause it was script heavy.

cant be a script issue yet, this was just a new character testing stuff; and anyway i'm pretty sure that would be hitting my CPU hard not my GPU.  no i'm just nearing the ceiling in the graphics department.

i did install that texture pack though, looks great and appears to overwrite a stupid amount of my installed textures in one go...  let me finally get rid of skyrim realistic overhaul.

Could somebody give me a simpler list of what order to install things, because this guide has confused and lost me. (I have all the mods needed/wanted downloaded onto my pc, I just need the order to install them)

any reason we shouldn't use the MCG mod instead of a couple of the sexlab mods on the list?

seems to cover a good number of sexlab mods in one esp.

edit: or not, that mod seems to be a cluster of incompatibilities...

you use MO2?  because of the way it works you're not actually overwriting/deleting files that conflict so install order isn't such a big deal.  just try to order the installed files in the basic order they appear in the list.

M.C.G is basically a full game overhaul. It touches almost everything in terms of sexlab stuff. While it can be used to replace a bunch of mods, there are 2 caveats: 1) If there is something in MCG you do not like, you will be stuck with it cause it's essentially an all in one package. 2) as with many of these types of overhauls, other mods can be used to replace some of the overhaul's functionality if installed after the overhaul mod.

Ultimately, it's more a matter of choice. I've looked at MCG myself, and I am tempted to try it down the road, once i've tested/played out a few other mods. If you want to use it, go for it. MAke sure you place it near the top of the lover's lab section. Also make sure you read through what it does and make sure to remove any mods that duplicate functionality (unless you want to replace that functionality). If you want to use a different mod to replace some aspect of MCG, make sure you add it to the list after MCG. Caution though, some mods may not play well with it. Again, read the MCG page in detail.

Basically, you start at the top of the list, and work your way down, installing them as they are listed.

Also, Jhonny2by4 is not correct. What MO2 does is it creates a virtual data folder that is loaded when the game is run with SKSE. While it does not change skyrim's base game data, it does interact with it when the game runs. Even if it is a virtual data folder, if there are errors, it will still cause CTDs and other weird stuff.

Order does matter in MO2, as the order of the mods in the plugins list helps MO2 sort out conflicts. Conflicts is also a bit of a misnomer. The data tab shows you what the data folder will look like when MO2 runs the game. In some cases, files get replaced because you want them to be replaced. The most common example of this would be mods with patches. If the patch is installed after the mod it is patching, it can show up as a conflict in the data folder. This is not however a conflict, as you want this patched file to replace the original file. The conflicts can be a good way of troubleshooting issues with mods, but not all conflicts are bad.

As far as this list goes, it is already sorted for optimal play. So when you are creating the list in your mod manager (MO2 or otherwise), you just go section by section, top to bottom. If you want to add other mods that are not on the list, just add them to the section that best suits them. Also pay attention to any installation notes on the mod page.
