Skyrim SE for Beginners - V 3.2.6 (Outdated)

@Celedhring While most of us (I assume) are still on pre-AE builds, yes, eventually most of us will move on to post AE. But you bring up a good point about preserving this (now dated) current "Final SE" version of the guide. You may want to save the original page for future reference before it gets changed. There are various ways to do that.

On the discussions about the various mods that help save MCM settings, I have a few of them installed (FISS, MCM Helper, etc). I am a little confused as the many MaskedRPGFan Settings Loader Series mods sometimes need FISS, sometimes need MCM Helper, sometimes need other stuff. Or am I missing something? They also don't cover LL mods that often need the most configuring. I have not tried any of the Settings Loader Series yet.

And maybe its common knowledge, but I just saw that .NET Script Framework is unlikely to be updated for AE. Hopefully someone else replaces or rebuilds it. That is unfortunate. Many were waiting for that mod. It has saved me many times with it's crash log and the info in this: .NET Script Framework's Common Crashes and Fixes.

FISS is outdated anyway. Most modder now use MCM helper to make profile for MCM.

You can follow MaskedRPGFan to see if author upload MCM helper for the mod you want.

akadeadpool, Thanks for the heads up!

How is your recuperation coming along?

Painful, slow and in a race against a turtle i'd put my money on the turtle.

Atm everything further away than 30m is completely out of range.

On the positive side: 3rd day without cigarettes! Never thought that would be possible...

@Aylis I'm glad to hear that you are recovering, even if it is slowly.  Good for you on quitting cigarettes.   This should allow your breathing and overall health to improve, and you'll have more money to spend on modding Skyrim.  ?

I dunno why this never occurred to me, but if anyone fools around in the Racemenu screen as long as I do, this saves a bit of hassle:

https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/40752

Disables the clothes at the beginning of character creation. Very helpful if you're importing a preset with a fair number of requirements and want to make sure everything is working correctly. Need to use the ASLAL version obviously.

Hi guys,

I've narrowed down the mod that caused my ctd. It was Mfgfix.

Now I have another issue with my character's face. Does anyone have an idea? It's not Dirt&Blood. The char is cleaned up. Also I can't remove the scar in RM, just change it to another one.

Spoiler

Am I getting this right? Is this the correct installation order?

- various mods
- CBPC
- SINful CBP
- various mods
- CBBE 3BA
- various mods

-> Doesn't SINful CBP collide with the CBPC settings chosen while installing CBBE 3BA?

-> When I reinstall CBBE 3BA to change the physics settings, what exactly do I have to rebuild in BodySlide? NPC A/B/C/D Cup, Player and all 3BA outfits?

I tried using the mod and all it did for me was give the new PC heavy armor instead of the usual rags.  I did find out that the console command "player.unequipall" does the trick.

Hello, I've been doing a fresh install following this guide and just have a question.

I downloaded xLOD but in the final instructions for terrain LOD it says not needed see updated instructions but I don't see anything when I search around or I am just missing something.

Should I run xLOD at any point? or is there something else I do for terrains?

I ran TEXGEN64 and DYNLODOD64 and have those outputs in MO2,

That was a missed leftover from DynDOLOD 2. It is now fixed.

Would it be an issue to add something like Vigilant to my Mod list?

I have completed the full install of the mods and was thinking of adding it but I know a lot of the mods I have installed probably have patches. Going back through and seeing which ones have a patch for it might be too much but if someone has done it I just want to know if it's not much of an issue in the end for compatibility.

Hi all, i have a question about VRAM, i have GTX 980 TI 6gb and this beginners guide build, almost, i only got to Armor chapter with 2k textures for all(architexture, lanskape etc.), where i find this 2k option, and my videocard load VRAM to 97-99% -as resul - CTD if i run faster across the open world(in cells load 75-90%). Is that how it should be or i due something wrong?

Skyrim AE 1.6.353 resolution 2560x1440 with 45-55fps in open world. 4k resolution - same VRAM load and ~20fps in open world (4k not for this card)

In addition to looking for lower res version of the mods in the list (which are often available in the download pages but not for all the mods here), you can optimize and reduce the textures using Cathedral Assets Optimizer.  I've used it because I have less VRAM then you do (only 4GB)

Yeah. 6gb VRAM are going to be a problem. Especially if you try to run it at 1440p too. A few pages back we had one check out his VRAM usage and he managed something between 10 and 11gb on the intro wagon ride.

One important thing first. Your native monitor resolution matters. If you have to step down from your monitors resolution because the graphics card does not cut the mustard any more you want to go down by a factor of two instead of going from 4k to 1440p or from 1440p to 1080p. Why? If you output 1080p fullscreen on a 1440p monitor your monitor gets three pixels worth of output delivered to four pixels of display. Stepping down from 1440p to 720p would deliver a much sharper experience. But who wants to play 720p in 2022? :D

1440p monitor I would stay with 1440p. A 4k monitor you can step down to 1080p and still have a 'crisp' experience.

Moving on:

Another thing to keep in mind that the 6gb vram is not the end of the line. Once your vram needs exceed that, your regular system ram gets used instead. Which is much slower than using the dedicated vram. Would not help much if you only have 8gb system ram too but with 16 skyrim can use roughly 4 of them for additional textures. Not 'much' but at least you don't crash because you run out of memory as easily.

Now how to reduce your general VRAM usage:

1) Play lower resolution - As a rule of thumb each higher tier resolution roughly uses 50% more vram. So if you move down instead you save maybe 33% of vram usage.

2) Use smaller texture sizes when downloading - Keep your native monitor resolution in mind! If you play 1440p you do not want to download the 1k texture packs but try to stick with 2k packs. 1k texture packs are 1080p equivalent and you end up with a similar issue when running 1080p on a 1440p monitor. Not quite as bad but we want to squeeze every bit of shiny out of it that we can.

3) Correctly tweak your Texgen settings - The base size 256 Aylis has in the example settings roughly is intended for 1440p. If you go to a lower base size to save on VRAM make sure to account for your native monitor resolution again. If you are on a 1440p monitor you might end up with an overall better experience if you reduce base size all the way down to 720p instead of only 1080p while at the same time drastically reducing your vram usage.

It is quite possible to have this guide work with a 4gb vram card and not have it run out of memory instantly but you have to make some serious compromises.

Is there a way to get the 1st person camera to work better for the SL animations?

-Edit- I have the Improved Camera Beta 4 and Custom IC preset listed in the Guide

I do not think that is a viable long term option. Sure it is fine now but it only takes one essential mod to require AE and the dominos start cascading. Happened with the original DLCs and will happen again at some point.

I only meant the basic mods to get SSE off and running.  Such as SKSE64,  Sky UI, LooksMenu, etc and just let the player add the other mods to suit him/herself.

I have noticed that Skyrim 2020 by Pfuscher also offers a terrain parallax texture mod. As we do not install the Skyrim 2020 Landscape mod part, I guess it doesn't make sense to use his parallax textures mod, right?

But which mod out of Aylis' great mod list offers terrain parallax?

I have that question as well since the xLOD is no longer used I feel like my terrain seems a bit lacking compared to objects. I'm not sure if I missed something.

Here's the feedback I got from Acro748, the CBBE 3BA mod creator, over at Nexusmods regarding SINful CBP:

"Since it has been a long time since the SinfulCBP has been updated, so not recommended to use it"

And he said regarding what to do when just reinstalling the physics settings:

"all you have to do is rebuild SMP objects"
