Long Description

Are you a millennia old vampire and tired of living in Harkon's dreg heap of a castle? Are you looking for class and luxury and a place to live your devious, bloody vampire fantasies?
Fortunately Baroness Nora Karlov had to leave Skyrim on urgent business of the realm, and she was kind enough to grant you living rights in Karlov Manor during her absent.

This mod adds a medium size manor to Skyrim. It is kept in a dark fantasy baroque style fitting for a vampire character or similar. The castle is located west of Solitude lighthouse, or accessible via the console ("coc ACCastleEx").
The manor features a large living area with various rooms. In an underground area you'll find thrall dungeons for your bloody needs, as well as crafting areas. Furthermore, this mod adds a gothic church/chapel dedicated to Molag Bal. Besides the mod adds various locations I used in my story blog "Of Blood and Pleasure" accessible via the main hall and a secret area.

In more detail the main manor features:

  • An entrance hall
  • Kitchen
  • Dining/ballroom
  • Master bedroom including bathroom
  • Trophy & weapon room
  • Church dedicated to Molag Bal
  • Various guest rooms
  • Gallery
  • Crypt
  • Basement storage area
  • Crafting areas
  • Prison
  • Attic
  • Atelier
  • A courtyard (Exterior)

High Rock

  • Villa Adraa, a large, Renaissance style villa in it's own worldspace
  • Villa Valek, a medium sized abandoned villa.
  • A Noble house located in High Rock
  • Sanctuary, a destroyed church in the High Rock Worldspace
  • Ruined Cathedral
  • Fallen Shrine & Courtyard

Hammerfell

  • A new Hammerfell worldspace
  • City of Al Mahan
  • Palace of Al Mahan with private Quarters

This. Is gorgeous. I don't play as a vampire but even so this Playerhome/photoshoot is immaculate. I have this weird itch for playerhomes that have beautiful interiors and this almost scratches that itch. I. LOVE. the noble feel the house has, and I greatly appreciate it for what it is. I love how every room has so much character put into them, and I'm also extremely impressed that you can fit so many assets into each cell without impacting my framerate. I've installed other playerhomes with seemingly half the ammount of unique assets as yours, and tank my FPS despite my cpu being pretty beefy even for today's standards. I'm also greatly fascinated by the freedom to change certain bits of decor in the main castle. The closest playerhome mod that compares to yours in terms of design is the esteemed Clockwork castle, (which I'm sure Karlov has taken some inspiration from), however I have a preference for house mods that come without rather lengthy quests and are also a part of the main world space. Do you, at any point, plan to create other house mods? I understand that this one has likely taken up much of your devoted time, and as such you probably want to finish your passion project above all else, but your talent for interior design is such a breath of fresh air, and I would very much appreciate seeing you expand your repertoire through more creations. ...That being said, you're only one person (to my knowledge) so I understand if that's a big fat "NO" given the time and effort you've put into Karlov lol. Speaking of, it would be cool if you at some point made an alternate non-vampire version of Karlov for more heroic PCs... but I digress. Wonderful mod. Wonderful use of assets. I hope that other playerhome mod authors follow your example in terms of design.

All that out of the way, I do have some nitpicks. Not my thing thematically, (as my playstyle is the slightly morally flexible hero) and I personally feel that some of the expanded areas could have worked better as separate mods. Karlov Manor's greatest appeal to me is the main house and how connected it feels without feeling intrusive, and how it still feels like a home despite all the cannibalistic themes and vampire elements in the furniture and décor. The Crimson Wing however is obviously intended to be a mess, however. With the cobwebs and some destroyed décor. Kind of reminiscent of the Pelagius Wing of the Blue Palace but with more elegance and supernatural elements, and the portal to access other provinces is an interesting detail, but some of the rooms they grant access to I feel could have simply been additional wings to the main building, even if that meant sacrificing a little bit of thematic diversity between the different provinces, but that's just my personal preference.

This mod has all the basic commodities of a player home. Functionally leaves some things to be desired, but this can be forgiven due to its style and well placed assets. As a player home I'd rate it a 7/10, however Karlov was created as a functional in game photoshoot. You don't even have to ask if it lives up to it's purpose, you know damn well it does. It's just as much a work of art as it is a photoshoot. 10/10.

Combining the two scores and dividing them in two, I give Karlov Manor an 8.5/10. Even if it isn't an entirely friendly living space to move your spouse and your followers, it is still nonetheless a work of art to behold. It obviously isn't meant for everyone, nor will it be a part of every playthrough, but the amount of time and effort that has gone into meticulously planning the layout of the house is immediately apparent. From the somber indigo light shining through the stained glass windows of the main manor to the rose petals suspended in time in the enigmatic Crimson Wing, this mod is bursting from the seams with detail and passion that may be the convincing factor to accept Lord Harkon's offer in your next playthrough just so you can properly enjoy the atmosphere while sipping blood from a silver chalice. Thank you for sharing this mod with us, and I look forward to seeing what you do next.

Thanks for this comment, was a very nice read.

Let me address some of the points you have made.

The biggest concern seems to be the fact that large parts of this mod could be seperate mods.

I agree with this and in a perfect world this would be the case. However there are two practical reasons against it. First, I primarily build this mod for my story on this blog and for my own screenshooting needs this essentially dictates all decisions I have made for this mod.

The second reason is a very practical one. By having everything in one .esp it's extremely easy to maintain and use all custom assets and cross use them in the different areas. It may not look like it, but a lot of Skyrim/Karlov Manor assets are used in the Hammerfell part and vice versa. If I had multiple .esps I'd be much more work to manage all existing assets. Furthermore, it's just easier to maintain one libaray of assets than three seperate ones. For example when fixing bugs, updating older models or deleting unnecessary ones.

At some point I had plans to build a "Karlov Manor light" that's essentially just the main manor + a small quest and some NPCs removing all other parts and upload it to the Nexus. However I've dropped that idea as it's -A- a lot of work I don't personally enjoy doing very much and -B- don't use myself.

Completely understandable. I'm aware of how time consuming projects like these are and appreciate the patience and resolve you mustered in order to see it through, and as such I can also understand why you'd want to put the project to bed and move on to something new, whether it's creating another mod or a new passion entirely. Either way, I wish you luck in your endeavors!

this cannot exist at all ... the castle is purely a photo location

I too will use it as a photogenic background in my blog story - but all "interactions" with staff members have to be "roll-play".

but that's not a problem - since the Baroness Nora Karlov is on a long journey anyway

Thank you!

Nothing you can do about this problem. It has to do with the fact that the piano room and the bedroom above overlap and when you move your camera up it's already in the bedroom while your PC is still in the piano room and thus you don't see it anymore.

Mods works, but the interior is too bright compared to the videos and screenshots.

Am I doing something wrong? I'm using Anniversary Edition and my enb is NAT III.

But overall, I love the mod and made the manor my home until the owner returns. (^__^)

Probably depends on your ENB, also this mod was never made for AE... not sure.

Most people complain that it's too dark.

Hi, do you mind me patching it for Lux (my lighting mod on SSE/AE) ? That's a lot of work but a lot of people are actually requesting it and I may be a bit on the masochist side. ^ ^'

No problem, I think there are already a couple of addons for it on the Nexus that change parts of the mod.

By far the best castle I have seen.

So impressive well made.

1 little nitpick.

It's NE of Solitude, not NW as in description ?

I am hoping to use some assets from this mod (a specific room/location/cell).

It is mentioned in the permissions that many of the assets are found on the  "DAZ3d" website.  I am hoping to repurpose only the vampire (Molag Bal?) church (cell?) I saw in a video.  (I will be modifying/removing some of the assets to make it non-vampire/customizable theme).   Are any of these assets restricted because they are from this website?  Hoping not but let me know what I need to do to use them.  Thanks.

EDIT:

Also want to use Salomne Cathedral.  Just those two cells (I will be modifying).

DAZ3D items are used throughout this mod including various churches.

Which cell are we talking about? There are many cells fitting your description.

The cells I want are ACBPOldChurch and ACHFSalomneTemple.  I believe that is it.

WHERE IS IT LOCATED??? Northwest of Solitude is ridiculously vague and I've been walking around there for hours and I'm getting pretty f-ing pissed off. Can't even bother with a single map marker or a f-ing screenshot telling where it is? ??

Wow, this pisses me off even more. I literally wasted three hours looking in the wrong area.

WHY ISN'T THERE A SINGLE MAP MARKER OR SCREENSHOT OF IT'S LOCATION. ?

Just read the description of the mod:

The castle is located west of Solitude lighthouse, or accessible via the console ("coc ACCastleEx").
