TLDR: Which location mods do I play,  which locations do I modify, which locations do I add, player homes, villages, etc...

Many quest mods add their own additional locations, build houses, etc... (e.g. Angrims Apprentice)

I skip these in this list here (mostly) and don't mention them.

Basically these are existing single vanilla locations that get a new touch:

My own patches (home brew)

None publicly noteworthy, yet. I need to get a better understanding of the CK first.

But it will be some basements to vanilla houses :classic_wink:

 

 

Merging location mods

Location mods are usually a good victim for your merging urge.

 

My first merge is all those various smaller spots:

I'm still looking for a replacement of Oakwood. Because? Because I want to get rid of any steam-crap in my game.

Does it colllide with anything? It's near the thieves guild sanctum ? that's empty space  AFAIK.

 

Does it work with mods like Radiant Prostitution? Anyone checked?

I only installed it last game and have only been there once. It is between Riften and Snow-Shod Farm but set back from the road. It doesn't actually do anything as far as I can make out.

I'm on way down to the Rift but it will be a few days before I get to the brothel.

I'll send you a postcard once I get there.

(Fachry, the author makes a lot of follower mods FYI).

While I'm here . . .

I currently use JK's Skyrim Lite and I'm very happy with it. This also does most of the minor settlements such as Rorikstead and Ivarstad (adds a smith, alchemist or general goods usually).

What I wouldn't mind is something which does someting to some of the others such as Karthwasten or adds to places  like Nightgate Inn or Old Hrolden Inn. Any suggestions or recommendations?

    • Soljunds Sinkhole, but not directly Old Hroldan
  • Expanded Towns and Cities (cities and villages, the whole dose for me) https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/13608
    • the old one, the new one isn't complete yet
    • and it needs you to switch to the JK major-city-only version or it will collide. "Collision" in the meaning of stupid landscape, floating houses, etc ... but no CTD

here some more Legendary City impressions,

a closer look on AMOL

Sadly the NPC conversations aren't covered by Fuz-Dialog so you need to activate subtitles to see them.

They like smalltalk a lot.

Also quests aren't implemented yet for every city.

Botox seems not to overwrite the NPC, needs a patch. Think there are some already on NMM, need to search a bit more.

ELFX interiors makes some issues too, but nothing I saw already from LL mods.

Some citys have Player Homes, most have barraks, a thane, a court mage, a jarl, black smith, tavern, merchants (different kinds), lots of guards

Decision time ?

 

As the most superior ruler above all aedra and daedra of my Skyrim I hereby rule

§1 my grass WILL get an update

§2 I will add another "ENTRAILS" blog entry, dedicated to my vegetation, weather, light and environment

 

Now, down to the dirty operational level.

Grass mod, yes. But there can only be one!

Any comments, experiences, comparing opinions? I spent the morning coffe with a bit YT. By now I have a tendency but can't say that I am more decided now. ?

Legendary Cities is reeeeally tempting. :classic_happy:

I still haven't seen an ingame map where I can see the true locations in TES5 Skyrim. Only the old arena map, but that tells me nothing in terms of the Skyrim world. Is there a screenshot somewhere?

I would like to understand potential collisions first ?

First thought: can't be that hard to get a good map

Second thought: dammit

Third thought: only one way, get your setup running again and make screenshots from the map

 

Confirmed conflicts:

> Amol could conflict with something that changes the area around whistling mine

> North Keep will conflict with Captured Dreams (nearly works, but those CD tents from the building crew will create a mess, or worse, looking at you FPS/CTD/Pathfinding)

 

Others:

> no conflicts with ETaC beta or mods that overhaul small towns and villages

> minor conflict with the great forest of winterhold (trees poking thru the city)

 

The cities are mostly "out of the way", but would be interesting if "little location" adding mods would conflict

Nevertheless looks interesting.

 

Then there is also: Northern Grass

Super new and gets still updates

 

I love my Viscous Foliage, because:

> no FPS cost so far

> worked after installation

> high grass and dense (bad for LL, good for critters, nightmare for keys and dropped equipment)

> not much flowers for a darker, wild, cold feeling

> grass is rare in some colder regions

 

well sometimes you can find some odd flowers:

Fear not!

The Department for excessive Settlements, Sewage and Taverns thought about that already!

 

from the Settlements Expanded page:

"Legendary Cities - patches for both the modular and All In One versions of this mod are now available in the files section.  These patches make numerous changes to the base experience of using this mod when it comes to the Whistling Mine / Amol location in order to allow both mods to be used together such as removing the blacksmith house and the public cooking/warming platform as well as removing clashing rocks/walls/lights/patrol routes and many other things.  Using this patch means that your Whistling Mine/Amol location will not look like the screenshots for this mod, but will instead be basically like the Amol portion of the LC mod, a rather drastic but necessary step in getting both mods working together."
 

=> did you see that: "patches for both the modular and All In One versions"

how awesome is that mod author!

means you don't need to install single esp and merge them, you can just patch over Amol

 

just saw there are more patches for everything :O

I now use Northern Grass, it's not as heavy on my setup than ... what ever I used before lol

 

Question:

Do you delete the scripts the ME locations come with?

(those Clubs add all scripts like removing gold from whoring around, self closing doors and things I might not even have dreamed of).

Nothing changed, I'm still with team ETAC+JKS. But I use dedicated enhancements fro some cities. E.g. Solitude

They come with the locations.

So far I had no issues with those, I even like what they do.

Just asking to be sure.

If you have installed them too and you have no ill effects than I will just do business as usual.
