From Ugly to Beauty Skyrim

Episode Two - CME Presets?... that is hard, RaceMenu is Easier.

For this Series I will show you guys...

- How to have a Net Immerse Override in Skyrim SE?

- How to install ECE in Skyrim SE?

- How to have and get a very accessible CME Folder?

From the last Episode I believe that we installed two mods in two ways, one is directly from Nexus Site and the other one is using Mod Organizer 2 to directly install Compressed Files that you download. As you can see below, there is no Plugins shown yet on the right side of MO2 even we already installed 2 mods. Normally or usually Mods installed will have plugins on the right which are named .esp or .esl but I don't need to explain that since our focus here is how to start modding Skyrim SE, and that is using ECE like I said.

image.png

To start, I already downloaded these two essential mods for me. These are the Unofficial Skyrim Special Edition Patch Mod for updating your Skyrim SE Game and  Alternate Start SE so you don't have to undergo the default story start of Skyrim which takes a lot of time. It's up to you if you like to download these mods directly or indirectly using MO2 and also if you like to use them.

1.png

Then I install the two mods directly by using the MO2 icon for installing downloaded compressed files. Now you can see below that the two plugins finally shown in the right side of MO2. The Bold .esp plugin must be on the top priority list of the Plugins and the normal .esp plugins must be below or higher number in Priority. Bold plugins are very essential because they usually determines a patch, update, or importance of that mod that will also affect other mods that you will install in the future and also affect the very game overall.

2.png

After you install the two mods namely USSEP and Alternate Start SE, don't forget to check the mod on the Mod List on the left of MO2 so that their built-in plugins or .esp/.esl will show on the right side of MO2. Also don't forget to check or tick them on the right side of MO2 so these plugins will really work on your game. Afterwards I click the Run the game under SKSE so that the plugins will really run  then. If you run the game under Skyrim Special Edition, the SKSE will not work and also the mods as well. With that you are only playing the Vanilla Skyrim or Base Game without mods at all.

3.png

Then Play New Game.

4.png

You will begin your game in Prison instead of starting from Helgen. You will see that you are under Character Creations and you can customize your character before you begin the actual game. This also determines that Alternate Start SE Mod is also working. You can choose whatever Race you want but for the sake of the basics of this tutorial, we will choose Nord Race for now which is very common for creating characters.

5.png

Then Go to Body on the Top of the Menu and choose the sex of your character.

6.png

I choose Female for now because I got a lot of Presets for female characters. We are not playng yet, I just shown you the very basics of this Menu because ECE or Enhanced Character Edit Menu looks like this and when we use it next time, we already know how to manipulate it. Then Press R when done and then Enter and name your character whatever you like.  After these you will exit the character creation menu. Press ESC then Exit the game.

7.png

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

How to have a Net Immerse Override in Skyrim SE?

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

I already downloaded all the files that are needed for my game from the Backup Cloud Storage I have. So I don't need to search and download them one by one from Nexus.

8.png

For this using MO2, I install Heels Sound 1.5 SSE mod, SkyUI SE, UI Extensions SE, BodySlide and Outfit Studio SE and CBBE SE (Caliente's Beautiful Bodies Enhancer SE). You don't have to follow what particular mods I installed first,  just for the sake of this tutorial I install them first because I am preparing some required mods for the character creations. Heels Sound mod is a requirement in some female footwears. I install it first because there are times when you install clothing or armor mods, it also contains footwear which really required sounds. SkyUI SE mod is a requirement in-game so that Mods Menu will also show up in there. UI Extension SE mod always comes together with SkyUI and also a requirement for Character Creations Mods which are RaceMenu and ECE (Enhanced Character Edit). And lastly CBBE SE so that the body of your female character will somehow looks good when created. If you want to use other body type like BHUNP, UNP or TBD, you are free to do so. CBBE is a very basic  and easy to use body type for beginners that is the reason why I use this in particular.

I check the mods on the left of MO2 as well as the plugins built with them but I left CBBE SE unchecked for now.

9.png

Now let us install RaceMenu SE using MO2 icon.

10.png

When it is done, don't check it yet on the left side of MO2.

11.png

On the Mod List on the left side of MO2, choose RaceMenu Special Edition in particular. You can see that it was highlighted by  a light blue background. Then Right Click it and choose Open in Explorer.

12.png

When opened using folder explorer, you can see that in the RaceMenu folder that there are folder and files on it. What we really need there are the SKSE folder and RaceMenu.bsa file.

13.png

But before that, let us download the Bethesda Archive Extractor (BSA and BA2) first from Nexus. It is file use to extract BSA files. There are files inside the Racemenu.bsa file that are needed by the Enhanced Character Edit SE (ECE SE) which also involves in character creations and editing. MO2 cannot download BSA so it is available on manual download only.

14.png

Then it was downloaded like that. Extract it afterwards.

15.png

After the extractions of BSA, you will be able to see the files below.

16.png

Choose the BAE Application which is in black icon and Run it as Administrator.

17.png

And a Menu that looks like below will pop out.

18.png

On B.A.E. menu, choose File. Then under it, click Open File...

19.png

Find the extracted RaceMenu SE mod that was extracted by MO2. In the last tutorial, I already made my MO2 folder very accessible which was placed on the Downloads folder. So under MO2 folder, choose mods folder. Find the RaceMenu SE folder and open it. You will see that only the SKSE folder and RaceMenu.bsa are readable by the B.A.E. application. Choose RaceMenu.bsa afterwards and Open it.

20.png

Now the file - RaceMenu.bsa will go under the B.S.A. Menu. You can see that there is a drop down tab available on it.

21.png

But before we extract the RaceMenu.bsa, let us make a New Folder on the BAE folder and I renamed that partcular folder as Extracted Files. You can make your own folder, rename it in what ever you want and place it on which ever is very accessible for you. On my case, I placed the Extracted Files folder inside the BAE folder so I can easily find the extracted bsa files in the future.

22.png

I dropped down the RaceMenu.bsa file on the BAE Menu and see the files under it. What we need here are the nioverride.pex and the nioverride folder under the skse folder which is also inside the RaceMenu.bsa file.

23.png

When you click Extract under the BAE Menu, you are ask to Select Folder which the RaceMenu.bsa file will be extracted. Find the Extracted Files folder you just made before under the BAE folder and Select that Folder. That will be our Output folder of the extracted bsa files from now on.

24.png

When you are done extracting the RaceMenu.bsa file. Find and open the Extracted Files folder. Under it select interface, meshes and textures folder. Then delete these three folders.

25.png

What was left for us are the scripts and skse folders.

26.png

Go and open the scripts folder. Under it - select chargen.pex, racemenu.pex, racemenubase.pex, racemenuload.pex and racemenuplugin.pex. Then delete these files you have selected.

27.png

Now what are left for us are the source folder and nioverride.pex. Go and open source folder.

28.png

Under source folder, select all the files except for the nioverride.psc file. Then delete all the selected files afterwards.

29.png

Now only nioverride.psc was left.

30.png

Go back to the Extracted Files folder and select skse folder.

26.png

Rename it as NIO Replacer or what ever name you want.

31.png

Then Move the scripts folder to NIO Replacer that you just renamed or created.

32.png

Now just the NIO Replacer folder was left.

33.png

Then find the SKSE folder under the extracted RaceMenu SE mod on the MO2 folder. Select SKSE folder and right click Copy it to the NIO Replacer folder.

34.png

When you open the NIO Replacer folder, be sure that it contains scripts and SKSE folder just like below.

35.png

And when done, just go back to NIO Replacer folder. Using a RAR or ZIP extracting applications, compress this NIO Replacer folder into .rar or .zip file.

36.png

And it's done.

37.png

Using Mod Organizer 2, install the NIO Replacer.rar/.zip file you just made.

38.png

Quick Install it.

39.png

Afterwards you can see this NIO Replacer in the Mod List, don't forget to check and place it just under the RaceMenu SE mod. This mod will be a replacement for Net Immerse Override just like in the Skyrim Legendary Edition. There is no NIO mod in Skyrim SE because the .dll files on it are not compatible for it. Instead of .dll files, it will use the .pex and .psc files to be able to run mods which requires NIO or NetImmerseOverride. Example of these are the NIOPA, NIO High Heels and more. Inside this NIO folder, we  included the SKSE folder which contains the plugins folder that contains skee64.dll and skee64.ini which are also a requirements for various mods and also for ECE Character Creations and Modifications.

40.png

When we are done with these, then we can finally install Enhanced Character Edit SE.

-----------------------------------------------

How to install ECE in Skyrim SE?

-----------------------------------------------

Well, just Install Enhanced Character Edit for Skyrim Special Edition normally. Easy right?

Select your preferred Language, for me I choose English like everyone else. ?  Then tap Next...

41.png

It is better if you choose Full Package since you will not RaceMenu for now. Then click next...

42.png

Select Full Sliders and then tap Next...

43.png

Just select according to your preferences and then tap Install...

44.png

It will install automatically in your MO2.

45.png

Now you can see ECE on the Mod List. In the the Plugins on the right side of Mo2, ECE supplied 3 plugins. The RaceCompatibility.esm which is very important for additional Races aside from the default ones present in your game. The other two plugins namely CharacterMakingExtender.esp which use are to add slots for your CME Presets and EnhancedCharacterEdit.esp which use are for Character Creations and Modifications. ECE also added some features or sliders for tweaking your character which are  not present on the Default or Vanilla Skyrim. See to it that the RaceMenu SE  is not checked on the Mod List so that it will not overlap ECE  SE on the character creations. Once ECE SE was checked, tap check the 3 plugins that came with it as well so that they will work fine in your game.

46.png

When you are done, you can now Check CBBE SE. I also installed the .esl patch of CBBE so it will not take the slot of the plugin anymore. Also check the RaceMenuMorphsCBBE.esp and CBBE.esp which are now flagged as esl plugin.

47.png

After you are done then we can finally start a New Game or just  Continue/Load your Saved Games. The first you will notice on your female character was it somehow looks prettier or  the skin got smoothen compared to the Vanilla Game you saved before. This is the effect of the CBBE mod particularly on the body and texture used by your character.

48.png

When you press ESC on your keyboard, you can see that MOD CONFIGURATION was present there. This is the effect of SkyUI Mod which added another list or User Interface on the Menu particularly used for the Mods which also comes with their built-in Menu or UI as well.

49.png

Select MOD CONFIGURATION and the SkyUI or MCM (Mod Configuration Menu) will open. The SKY UI in particular let the user or player modifies the looks of the interface or Menu.

50.png

And finally press Tab on your keyboard to exit the Menu.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

How to have and get a very accessible CME Folder?

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

While on game, when you press "~" or tilde symbol on your keyboard. This key is just above the Tab key on your keyboard. Tapping ~ will open a console, then type in " showracemenu" continuously like in the picture below. Then press Enter and you  can open the RaceMenu UI for character creations and modifications.

51.png

You will be directed on the Race just like on the Vanilla Game but now just proceed and press the Body Menu above. It will look like the picture below. Select Slot Load by clicking it. When you click the Slot Load once more or by pressing the left or right arrow keys in your keyboard, the RaceMenu will load the Preset present in your game. Initially the Slot Load  has a Preset present on Preset1 or Slot1 when you click Next below.

52.png

Preset1 or Slot1 has a CME Preset which look something like below or maybe different on you. It all depends on what mods you installed in your game. When your Character changes then press R on your keyboard, it means that you are done modifying your character. It s not yet time to modfy our character. We are only just saving the default character on Slot 1. You are done saving the character when you finally done naming your character. For example I am done naming my character as Arini, then press Enter and you are ask to Save that on a particular slot. For now just Select Slot 1. Afterwards you will automatically exit the RaceMenu UI.

53.png

CME will now create a folder for all your Saved characters in game. Since you saved your character on Slot 1, the preset will be named as  _1_commonTriRaces.slot outside your game.

You can Exit or still play your Skyrim game but we need to find the preset that was created by CME outside the game. By default you can find that folder by opening the Documents folder under This PC just like below.

54.png

Under Documents you will find My Games. Just open that folder.

55.png

Under My Games, there is a Skyrim Special Edition folder and open that. Now you finally found the CME_save which contains the presets that you saved in-game

57.png

Right Click Copy the CME_save folder and placed that in your desktop as shortcut so it will be very easy to access then. I do this so when I find CME Presets online then I can just download  and drop it there easily. Just be sure that when you place a CME Preset  on your CME_save Shortcut folder, it must  be in this format - _1_commonTriRaces.slot. The number "1" denotes the slot number of that Preset. It also means that Slot 1 of ECE is finally occupied and just choose another slot number to place your another preset.

58.png

Since Slot 1 got an ugly or a default Preset, we can just replace it with another preset we downloaded online.

59.png

For example, I already downloaded Ari Presets folder. Open the Ari Presets folder.

60.png

As you can see below, there are two .slot files. I also downloaded the picture of that particular CME Preset. The _3_commonTriRaces.slot Preset is actually Ari while the _5_commonTriRaces.slot  Preset is Arini which is the Loli version of Ari. I also downloaded the picture so that I will have a basis of what she looks like in game. Always remember that CME Presets will not actually determines the outcome of what your character will look like in game. It all depends on many factors for example - the textures, the ENB used by the author, and also consider the PC used. We only have a picture there, just for the basis of the looks of the character and we are just trying to somehow look as close as to that.

image.png

Delete the _1_commonTriRaces.slot in the CME_save folder because it is a default preset created by your game. Copy the _3_commonTriRaces.slot preset from the Ari Presets folder and Paste it on the CME_save folder. Rename it into _1_commonTriRaces.slot by just changing the number 3 into 1. Then we are done replacing the Preset file on the CME_save folder.

There is a number 2 on the exclamation icon on the right panel of MO2. It means that there are 2 errors or conflicts. It might also mean that there are files inside the Overwrite folder just below the Mod list on the left panel of MO2. To determine these errors, just click the exclamation icon with number 2 on it.

61.png

Then the Notifications window will open. In there you can see the errors or conflicts. There are two conflicts which one, there are files in the Overwrite mod directory and the other one is an error on the plugins.

62.png

When we click the Script extender log reports... The full details will expand below the Notifications. There are reports of incompatible .dll files or failed plugins, and I boxed them for you to see.

63.png

To resolve the issues, we  just find what folder contains them. And I found out that they are inside the ECE folder, under SKSE folder we can locate the Plugins folder which contain them. Incompatible .dll files are already old files and we only need the updated .dll file named characterMakingExtender_64_1_5_97.dll. Just delete the rest of .dll files because they only cause some issues on the MO2.

64.png

After deletions of the files, the Plugins folder files should look like on the picture below.

65.png

When done, just right click any mods in the Mod list on the left panel of MO2. Select All Mods and then choose Refresh.

66.png

Afterwards, we can see that the notifications number has changed into 1. This means that we resolve the first issue.

67.png

Now let us resolve the other issue which tells us that there are files in the Overwrite mod directory.

68.png

We can see that the Overwrite below the Mod list is still red and it means that it really contain files.

69.png

To resolve this is just right click any mods again on the left panel, then Open the mod in Explorer.

70.png

After opening any mods there in explorer, just go back to the mods folder.

71.png

Under the mods folder are the lists of mods that are installed in the MO2. In here, just create a New Folder and rename it into Output Overwrite folder. You can rename it in whatever name you want. Just for my case, I only choose Output Overwrite folder so that I can easily determine where are the files are going. This acts as an Output folder and also overwrites all the same files above the mod list. Always remember that the files on the very bottom of the mod list overwrites all the files above.

72.png

When I refresh my mod list in the picture below, the Output Overwrite folder shows up. Just don't forget to check it afterwards.

73.png

Then right click the red Overwrite below the mod list and select the Move content to Mod...

74.png

A list of Select a mod... will show and just select the Output Overwrite in there. That is the very folder we just made before. All the files on the Overwrite folder below will automatically directed to this Output Overwrite folder.

75.png

We can see that the Overwrite below became dim and the Output Overwrite named became darker. This means that this Output Overwrite contain files and so don't forget to check it.

76.png

If we open the Output Overwrite folder, it actually only contains the CharacterMakingExtender notepad which initializes the ECE mods. Don't ever delete this because it also acts like a swtch for ECE.

77.png

For the Continuation Blog, the tutorial will tackle the following...

- How to use CME Presets in Skyrim SE?

- What is the easiest way to use ECE?

- How to easily export nif Files when using ECE?

- Why would I use ECE instead of RaceMenu?

- Why I needed to install RaceMenu as well but it does not needed to be check on the Mod List?

...to be continued.
