Furry Fallout

Bad Dog

26397 views

I've downloaded Fallout 4 (again) and I'm having a look. There's a pretty steep learning curve here, I think.

I'm not in love with the new tri expressions. I'd rather have an "angry" expression than have a bunch of individual part movements "left eyebrow down". The YA angry expressions include ear movement... I'm not sure how that can be reproduced here. I'll probably put some ear movement in... somewhat randomly, I'm afraid.

Still collecting tools and sorting through this mess.

but I love to contribute to this.

Honestly that would be awesome.

Using screenshots or borrowing unrelated art from somewhere else (provided the artists are cool with it) may get the job done, but having an actual artist working on this in particular and doing edits of vanilla pieces (or new ones altogether, if inspired) with a consistent style and such is bound to have a much better final result.

So by all means please do join in on the fun, lol. :classic_shy:

Here's a rough mock-up edit I made of one of the Nuka-Girl posters.

For a "rough mock-up", that honestly looks game-ready as-is.

I say rough because the overall texture doesn't match, and a few details could be better. (like one of her eyes is slightly the wrong size)

I haven't done any real "painting" before. (as in blocking-in colors and not having outlines.)

CALLING ALL SCREENSHOT ARTISTS! Blaze, @ASlySpyDuo, anyone else!

I can tell already as soon as the races are sorted I'm gonna be bugged by all the human posters and such around the place. I'd love to replace them with furry models, and this is the place for using all those good modern screenshots I wasn't able to use in Skyrim. I'd love it if people would make replacements that I could stick in game. If you get the shot, I can age it, put it behind advertising text, all that. Or you can give it to me game-ready. I'll collect everything and when it's time start putting them in game.

Is there a good source for original high-res mags and/or poster images somewhere? I'm shit at modding but if you can do that part and I just draw shit I could contribute some. I like my mag displays :D

I'd hit use that.

Srsly, fabulous work. If you want to use this project as an excuse to brush up your technique, I'm pretty sure we can use anything you make.

Dunno about "hi-res" (actual ingame textures may be larger), but the magazine covers should be available on their corresponding pages from the Wiki (here's a list of all magazines, just check each individual mag's entry for the pics). Don't think billboard/posters are as easy to track down so those would probably have to be extracted from the game files themselves.

Do note that not everything needs to be "exact same as vanilla cover but with anthros instead of humans" (or at least not IMO). Anything remotely fitting for the magazine franchise/issue name could work out. And as for billboards... well, pretty much anything goes as long as it makes sense as a billboard.

EDIT: if you're really up for it I could try to pack up an archive with all the vanilla billboard textures that include (human) characters on them, but I'd need confirmation first because there's a ton of them and I'd have to manually filter them to pick them out and possibly re-save them as PNG or whatever (unless you use Paint.Net or Photoshop with a DDS plugin to open them).

Honestly I'd give a try at doing a magazine cover or two from the wiki and then decide whether to carry on or not depending on how that all turns out.

Oh, and I wasn't thinking of doing anything quite as epic as repainting the entire mags. Just paint over bits and bobs with too much "human" exposed. I quite like the vanilla FO art personally, so if I do more they'll stay very close to vanilla versions.

Anyway, heres a couple I did. These are the highest res images I managed to find. One paintingly and one catroony mag furrified, as quick examples:

Idk if theres higher res images than these, most of the time mags arent zoomed tho so prolly fine when viewed ingame. They're more like just a fun background detail for dumbfucks like me who spend too much time customizing settlements lol

I made some AI upscaled versions of the mag covers. Here's a link - https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1BoUWh2uFHGYXC_WHC5goj7Cv9udAVh6i?usp=sharing

There's 142 4k pngs and the whole archive is 2gb. They look a little odd zoomed in, but they look better when scaled to 2k for the game.

Damn nice! These will help alot.

Do you happen to have DLC mags as well (yes, those shittily drawn ones :D)? I only see base game ones here.

Right now I'm just pulling species out of my ass for this, if you guys have lore-friendly (or otherwise fitting) animal suggestions for the Unstoppables! cartoon heroes tag me with ideas.

I really like where this is going. Those are very well done, @PenBoozerX.

My one suggestion would be -- I prefer if the furries are a little bit more beast and less human--overall animal shape with muzzle, fur on the face, animal lips. I don't think the anthro lips on your sniper and the woman's face on "metal men" work so well. Partly that's my preference, but also it will fit better with the actual furries in the game.

Furry races are going to be wolf, fox, hyena, cheetah, tiger, lion, horse, deer. (IIRC, I have to check upthread.) So focusing on those is good, but I don't at all feel that all the images have to be those races.

So face tint layers: The rule seems to be (at least for paint) that if a color has 0 alpha it won't be offered in the color picker and the full color widget won't be offered. If there's only one color with nonzero alpha, the color picker turns into an alpha control and the full color widget isn't offered. If there's more than one color with nonzero alpha both picker and widget are offered.

OTOH, if the first "default" color in the list has a non-zero alpha it shows up on all characters even if they don't specify it at all. The only way to keep it off those characters seems to be to specify it explicitly with a 0 alpha.

So it seems like the only way to reconcile this is to make the first option a throw-away with a 0 alpha and then have a few color options after that with non-0 values. Which in fact other races do.

But, e.g., the foxes, where the white coloring on the face is applied with one of 3 different masks, and I want at least one of them because otherwise it doesn't look like a fox, either I have to set one of the defaults to non-0 and set the furrifier to explicitly set it to 0 if it's not going to be used on an NPC or I have to set them all to 0 and depend on the user to choose at least one of them.

?

EDIT: AND some body parts just don't get colors at all. Noses will only offer the value slider even if they have color options.

Allright I'll keep that in mind. I like both ways anyway.

Maybe I'll stick with the more humanoid version for the actual cartoon comics and have the more painting style mags be more beastly? That could be a fun mix.

Heres one I was doing with "super-beasty" style. Dogmeat is still just dogmeat, accompanied by pantherman.

Yes, Blaze told us they were coming but we didn't know when. They look really nice, I think, and the special assets are good. People should load them up and try them out. I don't have a lot of heartburn replacing the lykaios with these if the modder were amenable. But the lykaios are popular so...

I also noticed it's a very nice job ?.

But I remain faithful Lykaios ❤️

Well, Bad Dog already listed the main species covered by the mod (or at least planned for that), but I guess you could add a few more on top of that. Selachii are a thing so sharks could go there too. Anthro Deathclaws exist, and lore-wise even normal DCs were created pre-War as bioweapons by the US government, but they didn't really spread until after the War so it could go either way. And you could do any of Bad Dog's other Skyrim races and just pretend they exist too even if we can't see them ingame (yet?), e.g. Cellans (otters), Birds, Gryphons, Bats, Minotaurs/Cattle.

Agreed. Those blend into the original so well it would be hard to tell they haven't always looked like that, but I share Bad Dog's preference for more "beastly" anthros or at least ones with full-species-appropriate heads.

(Writes all this crap down for future reference, because Bethesda says "Fuck providing actual documentation on how game systems work and shit" or something).

Honestly Shadowliger did a truly amazing job with Lupines and they'll be a keeper in my mod list, but while I assume there would be no problems with integrating them into the mod, I think Lykaios still deserve some love and will help with consistency since the other races will also be ports of Skyrim ones (or at least heavily based on them) while Lupines are still Vulpine-based which is a different deal/style.

I like it. But it always weirded me out when just the player character is furry. I remember playing NV with a starfox mod, it was fun for a bit but when PC was the only odd one out it just kinda kills the aesthetic for me.

Oh I was mostly asking ideas for the Unstoppables! characters, since they appear multiple times. Shroud has movie posters and calling cards all over the place.

I'll prolly just use outside-mod races as well, since my favorites sadly never exist anywhere (mice). But I'll try using more mod-friendly ones than not.

New alpha kit up here!

Pull it down and play if you like. Purpose of these early kits is so you can have a look and tell me what you like or don't like as I go forward. This kit has all the canines: Lykaios (no face tints), fox (enough face tints to look like a fox), and hyenas (ditto). Everyone's furry as one of those three races. Future updates will scramble the races as more furriness happens. Supports the BodyTalk and CBBE bodies.

Things still to do:

* Remaining races

* Headgear

* Neck seams

* Lykaios face tints. Finish face tints for other races. Figure out better blending for the face tints.

* Better Lykaios mouth morphs

* Hair

* Chargen morphs for different head shapes

* Pawfeet

* White muzzles for old people, triggering off skin texture

* Figure out what to do with necks so clothes fit better
