Furry Fallout

I've downloaded Fallout 4 (again) and I'm having a look. There's a pretty steep learning curve here, I think.

 

I'm not in love with the new tri expressions. I'd rather have an "angry" expression than have a bunch of individual part movements "left eyebrow down". The YA angry expressions include ear movement... I'm not sure how that can be reproduced here. I'll probably put some ear movement in... somewhat randomly, I'm afraid.

 

Still collecting tools and sorting through this mess.

Seeing how only two issues of the magazine are actually used ingame (Hornet's Nest and Megaton) even if there's actually 5 of them in the game files, that shouldn't be a problem since there would only be one other cover to do left.

If you like doing cartoony stuff more we could coordinate and I'll edit more painty covers while you do cartoony covers, so we don't accidentally edit same ones twice. (I've done a bunch I havent uploaded since most of the mags are pretty boring. Just finished scratchy Wasteland survival guides, you will all hate them as much as the originals haha)

 

Revisited the crow into raccoon like you suggested, turned much nicer ?

That sounds good but I still want to do some more painterly covers. Can you upload all the ones you've done, or like a picture of them in a folder? I want to make sure I don't do the ones you've already done.

This stuff is fabulous and I think you should just go wild and do what you want. Yeah, the comic books should stay comic books and if they're all one theme we should keep it coherent, but I don't think the images have to match closely.

 

Don't forget we also have pipboy in his various incarnations, including the character setup screens.

Ok I opened a google drive folder for stuff I've done, here FO4furriMAGS

This is better, now anyone can check all of them in one place, and I can just drop new ones in there at will.

Btw anyone can grab and further edit these if they wanna dont need to ask permission or anything just dew it

I mean, you could do it for the sake of it even if it wasn't going to be used in the actual mod, lol. But still, creating a new magazine item to use that texture wouldn't be a problem, the only "issue" is it would be just for looks (i.e. no actual hair unlocking). But that's still a purpose.

cuz the female is actually a morph of the male, so it fits, and I'm moving through the races quickly. once everything's in place I'll take a second pass to polish things up and at that point I'll decide things like which textures and nifs have to be separated by sex. I won't upgrade the kits from alpha to beta until that happens.

 

Personally, I think furry babies in diapers assembling a (whatever it is) would be even funnier/sillier/cuter than the original.

Pip-boy is the bracelet, what work does that need? The health representing image? I have no idea how the animation for that works unfortunately. While I can make simple hand-drawn animations, I have a big fat ZERO gamedev/modder experience so I dont have even the first clue what resources would be needed for a multilayered animation like that.

I'm pretty sure the chargen screens--where you pick your skills--Pipboy is essentially an animated gif, and not that many stages in the animation either. The rest are all static, I think.

I was thinking a golden retriever, because they're very friendly and marketable looking. Like the vault boy should be.

IIRC, the "health status" images, the perk icons from the perk list, the SPECIAL icons, and a handful animations that show up during gameplay like the VATS critical or the "charisma check successful" one.

AFAIK pretty much all the interface elements that include Vault Boy (and would need to be replaced) exist as .swf files (aka Flash, apparently). No idea how those are handled but you could check out any of the mods that replace the same stuff to see if you can reverse-engineer it.

 

Some such mods I've found with a quick search: Vault Girl Perk Tree (includes "Source" files), (MLP) My Little Pony - Interface Overhaul Project (Includes source files and tutorial on how to edit the perk menu), Vault Girl Mod - Neo's FOMOD Version.

Ah. Unfortunately I have no experience in Flash programs so I'll have to sign out of that one. My available anim tools can only understand and export .gif .apng. .avi .mp4, none of which support flash technology. So unless there is a workaround to get those working in fo4 instead of .swf, I'm afraid I can't help with those. Bummer

Yeah, vault-boy. Pretty sure I've dealt with swf files back in the day. If someone gets me still images I bet I can figure out what to do with them. Plus he's used a lot in other images. Making him a Golden would be just about perfect.

These poster images are pretty low res (like 1k by 512!?), I run them though an AI upscaler before painting over them.

This is me bragging about how great I am:

 

I've figured out how to cut a head mesh in half, clean up the half, implement the morphs on that half, THEN dup, mirror, and join WITHOUT losing my morphs. That way morphs which only affect one side of the face (which is most of them) only have to be done once--then they're mirrored over. Makes the whole business half the work.

 

I've also figured out the exactly how to handle the mouth for the morphs. Rules are: 

  • Teeth and gum line (jaw) don't move when the lips move.
  • Outer edge of the gum connects to the skin on the mouth, so they always have to move together. All the stretching of the inner lip can happen there. None of it should happen further in, at the gum ridge or teeth.
  • Jaw moves as a unit and hinges way back under the ear, not at the corner of the mouth.
  • Way more skin needs to move with the mouth than you'd think to give the impression there are actual muscles under there.

Taken together these make doing the mouth morphs not that complicated.

 

However I'm still not entirely happy with them. The lykaios/fox morphs are creepy because there's too much lip movement in the back corners. Hyena and cheetah are better but they have this clenched-jaw thing going on. They need to open their jaw more when they talk but I'm not sure how to achieve that. I'm not given a phoneme like 'k' where I know how much the jaw has to open. Instead I have 'right upper lip up' which, what are they doing with that? I thought maybe if they were using it as part of a phoneme they'd mix in the 'jaw open' morph to get there, but apparently not, or not as much as I'd expect.

Oh, nice catch. I'll see what I can do, my pixel art skills arent amazing but maybe I can do some half-assed downscale+uspcale to make them look pixelated.
