in steam and its already been used, some

might say you got bamboozled. but idk I

I usually suggest that before you start modding a game is that you first play it without many mods other then maybe a body replacer so that you can see what the game looks like before you modded it and you'll be able to see and decide what you want to mod and change in your game.

Actually it can.  All you have to do is link it to steam and it functions the same.

Never worked for me -.- all I was able to do is link it in steam but like I ment to say the retail isn't integrated with steam or needs steam like the steam version is

Retail version of Oblivion is straight forward. Grab the patches online (if you can, harder these days) and you're good to go. The retail version I've got isn't connected to steam in any way, but there's still a CD-key to install it, so if that's not included, you're kinda boned.

Personally I've bought Oblivion 3 times now (Retail, Steam and GOG), which makes me wonder what you'd do about OBSE on ye'olde retail... It has a GOG and a Steam version... I assume you can safely use the GOG version.

I'm using the GOG version myself though.

well i bought unopened factory game assassins creed 4 black flag on amazon. opened up code had been used by someone else. probably by one of the keygen cracker programs, unles ubisoft just sold it not caring the disc install copy was unsold. their attitude ? it wasnt oh sorry heres a code. it wasnt responding 'i see by your photograph you have the real disl install and code, we'll disable the pirates copy so you can use the code.'

ubisoft solution: buy another copy direct from us using uplay.

so no refund. no help at all. ubisoft complain about piracy but dont deal with it when its flagged up by genuine customer, they fleece the customer for another purchase. their latest assassins creed is so messed up with 3 attempted anticracking softwares it wont run on my gaming laptop! steam however do do refunds.

this is why disc copies are not good idea, better to buy off steam and then you WILL get a copy with a code they WILL work because it hasnt been issued or used. unless the game doesnt require an online activation code to work.

buying disc copies except around launch day is basically risking throwing money away. you were better off buying from steam.

What I don't understand is why this thread in the adult mods section of all places. Though to be more on point, I wouldn't buy anything from Ubisoft, I trust them about as much as Electronic Assholes.

Am I missing something here? Ubisoft != Amazon? (!= is a programming statement saying "is not equal")

Explaining that != is a programming statement for 'is not equal' took longer than just putting it in the sentence. Besides if you are going to that length you didn't say which programming languages or for that matter why != is better than <> or .NE. or /= or the good old fashioned COBOL version of IS NOT EQUAL TO.

I'm not sure why people are saying to have a retail disk hook up with Steam?? There's no advantages to that, no mods on Steam for Oblivion, at least none that I'm aware of. (Unless newer versions of the disk have that code?)

I'm running a retail version now. With the GOTY you will not need the official patches, so that's checked off. But you will need OBSE, for Oblivion Fast Exit, because Oblivion crashes badly on exiting the game. Also stutter remover, as well a 4GB patch.

Then there's the Unofficial Patches. And the OOO, Obscuro's Oblivion Overhaul that a lot of people swear by.

Although, sometime after I installed my retail version, GOG came out with the Oblivion Deluxe. Really recommend that, GOG tends to be very stable, installs into it's own GOG folder in the C drive, so no permissions problems, and has 4 GB patch installed already. It also has the Battle Horn DLC like the Steam version, does. The Retail version does not.

I purchased my copy of Oblivion in 200x at a music/CD store and I hadn't heard of Steam then - so never linked it, but you do have to keep the DVD in the drive.

Feeling the urge to go and install it again with some nice mods, for old times' sake.
