Guest Posted August 26, 2016 Posted August 26, 2016 Fallout 3: Whereee's my daaaaddy DDD': Fallout 4: Whereee's my soooooon DDD': Fallout NV: WHO THE FUCK SHOT ME IN THE HEAD You don't see it even when i put their premises this way? This was actually a huge bother to me, I won't talk to certain people so I don't have to hear my character talk about where her child is : p It's really annoying. My two cents: they are all just a little off in such subtle ways that if they were all combined into one game they would be on point. For example, I loved Fallout NV story options and weapons modablity, but I loved the large downtown exploration in Fallout 3 and when the enclave invaded. Plus Broken steel was awesome! Actually all the DLC was pretty sweet. And in fallout 4...Well, I just love my character : p Don't get me wrong, I don't hate Fallout 4(I have like 540 hours and building), I just rebuilt my pc all for a game that no matter what I do it runs like shit, I really miss the karma from the previous games and so far the dlc isn't all that interesting and the map feels cramped. Plus the settlements are just, annoying.
Benmc20 Posted August 26, 2016 Posted August 26, 2016 For me, I was unable to finish any playthru of F:NV because of the ambience : too "cowboy" for my taste. I prefer FO3 for this precise reason. Even if Fallout 3 lacks (IMO) on two things : too few time in the vault and you are unable to side with the Enclave.

Gee, every opinion you wrote here makes me thing you're my long lost brother or sumthin, jesus fucking christ let's go to a bar and lemme buy you a drink man holy shit. I whole heartily agree that even if beth's fallout has their flaws in some things, but still, there are some things that does good. I don't exactly hate fo4 too, the gameplay is good, so i'm good. You know, with all the things you mention, it makes me wish for a modern fallout game where every good things from obsidian and beth gives to us from their fallout games packed in one new fallout game. That would be swell. You don't see it even when i put their premises this way? Oh well, everyone is different and can perceive things differently. Don't worry, you are free to carry on with your own perception without me bashing the shit outta you unlike your typical everyday youtube commenters who's hiding behind their keyboard and their internet anonymity :VVVVV See guys, THIS is how you deal with an apparent 'Shit talker'. Take notes. Also to answer your question. No not really cus FO:NV was made by Obsidian and a game I actually like. FO3 was 'Meh' (Not too bad but not great) and FO4 was 'Bleeeeeeh.' (Didn't like it despite the 6 months of hype I had for it and the fucking stupid ass hunk of plastic meant to resemble a pip-boy above my computer desk) FO3 and FO4 gave you a prime incentive, you were only ever one thing, a guy or girl looking for their father or their son. In FO3 I was David, the guy that spent his life in the vault and then escaped to find his father. I was also Delilah and Gary and Trystan and Bob, the guys and girls that spent their lives in the vault and then escaped to find his father. Once I was out of that vault I was whoever, I destroyed Megaton, I saved Megaton. I let Ghouls into Tenpenny Tower, I killed them all. I killed my dad, I didn't. Whatever. It still bugged the hell out of me that whatever I was doing I was doing for the purpose of finding dad, that was my end goal. In FO:NV I was Daniel McConnay, the former leader of a group of pirates named the Red Gulls, Captain of the Sparrowhawk that sailed the Seven Seas in search of loot before my crew mutinied and I was marooned off the shore of Florida but I asked by defeating a Deathclaw with a coconut, using its pelt as a boat and sailing off to the shore, I wandered for some 5 years before wanting to find fortune in the lucrative and mysterious job of taking a job of delivering a package. The job seemed odd for such a heavy cost, but it was a quick way to get a few thousand caps, a way to get a new crew back together and go and defeat those bastard gulls. But on the way I was captured and shot in the head... In another, I'm Jack, a courier. I'm the kind of person that prefers a bigger and more open backstory to be available Whoa now, you make it sound like i'm being aggressive against you before and now you're doing a revenge. I'm benny then lol Also we're you and me are talking about FO3/4's contents that's often safe-for-families or let's-cater-to-many-audiences-as-many-as-possible vs FNV's contents that's often cater more to the adults. Not the amount of backstories you could put in your FO3/NV/4 chars (But, i do love it when lots of backstories are available for us to use)
Guest MonsterFish Posted August 26, 2016 Posted August 26, 2016 Right right right. Eh sorry I woke up at like 10 when I went to sleep at 4. I can't concentrate and dno what you're talking about. Also the shit-talker bit was meant to be towards me. I'm the "Shit Talker" and you're dealing with me, right?

panthercom Posted August 26, 2016 Posted August 26, 2016 I enjoyed FO3 and FNV; I got around the whole 'daddy' thing in Fallout 3 by using COTW and playing as a kid character. Those are absolutely my best gaming memories, ever. I loved the world design of FO3 too. I learned how to enjoy FNV after I stopped paying attention to the factions and just did whatever the fuck I wanted. I have at least 1000 hours in each game if I count TTW, so I would say that they made very successful RPG's after some choice mods. I've gotten really, really bored with FO4 in less than 300 hours. All there is to do is play with Legos (settlements) now. I can't be who I want to be without some serious mods that don't exist yet. NOt to say that I've given up, as I love the world design, and I really want to create some cool content when that becomes possible.

That would be swell. lol word, lets. I like that idea of a modern Fallout, It makes me think that Beth should branch away from Fallout and just make a spin off away from its universe. Like, basically a wannabe fallout but modern and whole new setting, know what I mean? That way people won't be so let down when its not like Fallout 1, 2 or NV(since people love that selection there.) SIDE NOTE: I didn't hate Fallout 1 and 2 but they weren't my cup of tea. Diablo and Starcraft/BFME II gave me bad carpal tunnel syndrome so I don't enjoy copious amounts of clicking.

peculiaris Posted August 27, 2016 Posted August 27, 2016 You know... I don't enjoy fallout 1 and 2 as its presented by interplay. Because if they would be made into something like a book or movie the story would become even more of a masterpiece. The other fallout's are more in line with "game" stories, The thing Bethesda is pretty good at.
remois Posted August 27, 2016 Posted August 27, 2016 Come on I usually buy beth games for the mods because playing the game unmodded range from boring to vaguely interesting. For the fallout series, pucemoose made quest that felt integrated to the world, interesting and fun to play. Other did too but bethesda was never able to get the hang of it. Bethesda was never good with storytelling. But they have a knack for lore and worlbuilding. From daggerfall to skyrim (I didn't play enough arena to say) and for fo3 and fo4. The story telling was bland. Nothing really involving. In a beth game I never felt compelled to go through the storyline. Mostly I did the main story line with the same focus I would do any other side quest. They never cared much for great storyline and why would they? They make a blank canvas and modders fill it up. Somehow, that's what I came to expect from bethesda, and in this regard I am not disappointed. FNV had a better writing although it felt a little rushed at time. I enjoyed the games as it felt a bit more like fallout but keeping in mind that it would be a different game that cannot be compared: Nostalgia gloss a lot of flaws, even replaying the game won't fix that. In twelve years, you change, the devs changed, what we expect changed. Take the exact same game and release it in the future, it will probably get bashed like mad as a new game So past fallout will always feel better because no matter what moreover ask ten fans what made first gen fallout (ahah) better you'll probably get at least nine different answer. And probably not precise enough to extract a worthy design document the blanks would be filled by another team that would have different answer. So don't think of new fallout in comparison with past fallout because and more like a spinoff series that will have it's own different direction. If you're waiting for a fallout 2 style of game, forget it and don't bother buying

Guest MonsterFish Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 No need to be a cunt to the people that I have no problem with
Ernest Lemmingway Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 FO3 = mediocre RPG that feels like "Oblivion with guns" (anyone remember that worry?) with grossly simplified morality that doesn't matter much, forgettable characters, and choices that somewhat affect the ending with a mildly unstable engine. FO4 = lousy "RPG" with no depth and no morality or choices, the same play no matter what, characters with no real personality whatsoever, mediocre shooter, and horrible Minecraft clone all wrapped into one, but with a stable engine. FONV = good RPG, morality that matters, choices that heavily affect how the game plays, memorable characters with some personality to them, but an engine made highly unstable thanks to artificial time constraints cutting into final debugging. Engine aside, FONV was the closest thing to a true Fallout game since Bethesda acquired the license from Interplay. Largely because Bethesda just published it. It's official: Fallout is dead and Howard and Hines killed it. May both be sucked into wood chippers and rendered into the heaps of fertilizer they've become. EDIT: I should also add to both Bethesda versions, "none of the wacky pop culture Easter eggs found in FO1, 2, and Tactics that made for comedy relief after wandering the bleak wastes." Any Easter eggs Bethesda includes in their games are subtle to the point of being easily missed, obscure, and/or just not that funny.
Guest Rhubarbe Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 Yeah I agree with you, the writing over time gets a bit more worse. I think they are moving from a focus on the story to a more action based game, it's all business. They are focusing on attracting a wider audience with up-to-date graphics and an emphasis on what the production team thinks is 'good' and 'fun' gameplay. This gets peoples attention and this gets them more money in the end. We're lucky to have the modding communities for these games, which make the gaming experience so much better.
garg Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 Gee people judge Fallout and Bethesda like they have some other great game company out there that have done way better with some particular game. Please point my weary eyes in the direction of this great game!

Kendo 2 Posted August 30, 2016 Posted August 30, 2016 @ NathanSteele If you haven't bought FO4 yet then don't. Wait for whatever Obsidian does with this 'new engine'; FO New Orleans or FO Los Angeles Boneyard, or whatever they pull out of their asses.
Halstrom Posted August 30, 2016 Posted August 30, 2016 Better yet do what you want, don't feel you have limit yourself to playing 90's FO1 and 2 cause the BethBashers say so. FO5 could be years away and might even be done by Sony or Blizzard for all they know. Most of them have got more hours up forum hating than playing FO3, NV or FO4, they will still be whining after they buy FO8 At least Beth stuff has modding tools.
