It's related to the game latest update!
Doors have changed, so now we have to wait for Turbo to hot patch WW.
Nothing we can do now

Yep, I'm definitely waiting a week or two before updating. I already have quite a few mods that add an item to the menu pie and it seems like they're all broken (except Sacrificial's, weirdly enough).

So i have no idea why the mod is working today, possibly  because of todays update.? Getting a file location error.  i removed the mod, cleaned out my ea folder of any traces. also delted the WW addon folder too. Hopefully this will be fixed since it it is a new update to the game.,

So... I hadn't played Sims 4 for years. I reinstalled it yesterday with all the mods. And this update happened.

My problem is: EA app doesn't even launch the game while in offline mode. It requires me to go online. But now if I go online steam starts updating automatically. So basically I can't play the game unless I update. But if I update, all my mods will be broken. Thanks a lot EA....

I don't think it's the end user's fault for EA and Steam both making updates mandatory, sure there are warnings, but what good are they if they come too late? I didn't even know you could turn off the update, I don't particularly stay up to date on the forums, so this came as a surprise to me.

 

If someone is unaware of what questions to ask to begin with, then how is it their fault for not knowing to ask them to begin with?

 

Besides that, like I said, this is EA's fault for making this single player game, that really shouldn't need online connectivity for any reason, and yet does and end you basically cannot play said game in offline mode, I've not had one time where either my laptop or tower has successfully opened the game in offline mode. Again, if there is a way to do it, it needs to be accessible for end users whom may have accessibility issues to begin with, to find said settings more easily and intuitively.

Personally, I had no problems with EA constantly updating the game and making the updates mandatory. And subsequently those updates breaking mods that EA has no obligation to keep working on their games. I understand all the reasons from a game development perspective.

 

However, not giving players the option to play their games offline definitely crosses the line. That's a whole new level of anti-consumer. Microsoft was trashed back in 2013 for trying to impose always online on xbox one. People can have poor internet, or no internet for a variety of reasons. And for many of us, mods are an integral part of the gameplay. I'd be 100% fine in waiting to update my game if I could still play it offline but now I can't do that anymore. Origin worked fine in offline mode, but this app EA imposed on us doesn't work in offline mode and from what I researched it has been like that for ages now.

 

That's why everyone hates EA. I'm actually surprised they went that far. It seems like they hate mods and people who use them.

Tangentally related - and I was gonna post about it somewhere: Pre-patch I hadn't used the feature in a while, and I'm not sure which mod is related to it (if at all), but I remember I used to have an option to lock doors to specific sims. Instead, I have options in categories. I have no idea what changed as I barely update all my mods except for WW, BMD, and MCCC as needed. Does anyone know how I could restore that?

Other than that, I can confirm I'm getting the same aforementioned error. Alas, Schrödinger's update.

If I'm not mistaken, Little Ms Sam has/had a mod for locking doors. I'm not sure if that's the mod you're thinking about but it's the one I came to think about.

I don't know what you guys are or aren't doing, but the Go Offline option has always been there. In the EA Desktop, it's the three lines in the upper left corner, then Go Offline.

 

If the game still won't let you play after that, you've misconfigured something else. Make sure auto update is really off.

The offline option is there but if I try to launch the game while offline nothing happens. I double checked the auto update and it's off so idk what else I need to do. I could play offline with Origin but with the EA app I was never able to because the game simply won't start offline.

any chance you could stop trying so hard to make people feel stupid for updating? in some cases. (steam) we have no choice. there's no "offline" mode and there's no way to disable updates. i realize it's annoying having all these people who keep flooding with their errors but there's zero need for you to be so douchy about it. just give it a few days and all will be back to normal. relax!
