Angrybird Posted August 21, 2015 Posted August 21, 2015 Good point really, the thought that even bethesda cares about their own lore makes me laugh
sweforce Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 In a moddable singleplayer game the lore is whatever the user decide it is.
Serithi Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 In a moddable singleplayer game the lore is whatever the user decide it is. The headcanon is what the user decides it is, that's 100% up to the user as is their right. It's a distinct term from the lore, which is the official canon from the authors and devs themselves. Probably half the reason for the arguments is just people using the wrong terms for things, not because there's anything inherently wrong with either sticking to the lore or not sticking to the lore in your own game.
FastestDogInTheDistrict Posted August 30, 2015 Posted August 30, 2015 There's always been heated debates as to whether skimpy armor has its place in any TES game or not, or considered lore-friendly or not, but then I remembered the box art of the very first Elder Scrolls game: NA_Arena_BoxArt.jpg lore.JPG If it's on the box art, then the Moebius-tribute armor must be lore-friendly. Wast stickied this pic in the SeveNBase Comments thread when it was released (...aaaand then all hell broke loose! Hee hee!). Good to see it again, Rayblue!

QuiteTheTail Posted August 30, 2015 Posted August 30, 2015 "Lore-friendly" is not necessarily related to nudity or sex. I have no qualms using skimpy armor, but how about a laser cannon?

Kendo 2 Posted August 30, 2015 Posted August 30, 2015 Lore Nazis bitch about player-made bikini armors but say nothing about the Forsworn armor. That shows their mentality. They are bitching becuase they saw someone else doing it and they can. It's a simple as that.
zzz72w3r Posted August 30, 2015 Posted August 30, 2015 Most fantasy fiction books won't ever be read without skimpy cloth on the cover. Same as romance novels. Confucius said only two things are fundamental to life, food and sex. He's Chinese so food before sex.

I'd think more people object to said bikini armors having halfway protective stats than their actual existence. The Forsworn armor doesn't exactly have a high armor rating so that's fine, but 90% of the bikini armor mods are given Daedric stats or the like .
Chbaakal Posted August 31, 2015 Posted August 31, 2015 "Lore-friendly" is not necessarily related to nudity or sex. I have no qualms using skimpy armor, but how about a laser cannon? Soul gems + Lightning Bolt Spell modified into an Enchantment + focusing crystals or gemstones (ruby or diamond) + modified crossbow or ballista = Laser Rifle or Cannon. Plausible. Also, the Dwemer 'Tech' has numerous applications to make a LOT of 'modern' weapons, vehicles, and other devices. There are several other ways (in Skyrim, at least) to support a higher level of advancement, and any 'lore' attached to it would be (or should be) acceptable by anyone with any sort of useable brain material in their skulls.

g96885lurking Posted August 31, 2015 Posted August 31, 2015 I don't understand what they're complaining about. Everyone knows the entire school of Alteration was born when slutty dark elves wanted to show off their figures while tossing fireballs about. It's the real reason why you don't see dwarven elves anymore. As soon as oakflesh was developed, the females revolted against the ugly males in armor, and left leading to the immediate extinction of the race. Why, it's common knowledge.

It's more apocryphal, but everyone knows that's the real lore in the first place.
QuiteTheTail Posted August 31, 2015 Posted August 31, 2015 Other theories behind the disappearance of the dwarves? (Be creative).
Caffeine Addict Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 Female dwarves developed special "centurions" equipped with mechanical dildos that satisfied them more than the male dwarves and they never looked back, so the males didn't get a shot anymore. Besides, due to the heavy use of magic and soulgems and all that, they became infertile anyways.
Chbaakal Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 The most likely cause of the disappearance of the Dwemer lies in the use of Kagrenac's Tools on the Heart of Lorkhan. Not all of the Dwarves agreed with the majority of Tonal Architects and the Council. The minority, led by a group of Architects and Metalsmiths, found a way to gain access to the blade Keening and, by following a ritual devised by one of their most brilliant, opened a Planar portal to another Realm and escaped. However, this travel drained much of the blade's power, corrupting its affinity with the Heart of Lorkan. When Kagrenac and the rest of the Dwemer attempted their Ascendance, Keening's corruption resulted in their destruction, instead. When the Dragonborn retrieved Keening for Arniel Gane at Winterhold, the mage was actually following the ritual invented by the minority's lead Tonal Architect, and the blade's power could only send one person through to the surviving Dwemer's Realm, hence the mage's disappearance. A possibility for another DLC or an equivalent Mod would be a quest to restore some energy to Keening and, by following the same ritual, allowing the Dragonborn access to another Realm, where the surviving Dwemer have flourished and developed new 'Tech' over several centuries. Or they were destroyed in a war against the Realm's original inhabitants, leaving behind new ruins to explore and new Tech advances to discover. The 'Lore' would not be compromised, since it only follows a line of reasoning about a suspected theory behind the Dwemer's disappearance.

No doubt this is an interesting theory, and the idea of a mod based upon it is captivating. I was asking for something more in tune with the [Humor] tag though, like the theory proposed by Aurel before your comment. Don't worry, you have a 2nd chance. Here's mine: As soon as the Dwemer realized that the battle at Red Mountain was lost, their high council assembled to decide the corse of action. While they were debating, messengers showed up, announcing that the last line of defence was broken, and that the bulk of the enemy's forces would have been there in a minute. The sight of the incoming Dunmer, armed to the teeth and angry like angry monkeys, scared the shit out of every wise and sensible Dwemer. One by one, they activated the emergency escape mechanism (built-in in their watches), a device capable to bypass Vanto's Third Law of Perception and render them completely and temporarily invisible (for a year or two). In the subsequent riff-raff, only Kagrenac and his workteam stayed back, inscenating a last resistance just to make sure they wouldn't end up depicted as cowards in future historical accounts (they were indeed a prideful and snotty people). In the end, they activated their switches as well and found cover somewhere. At this day, nothing is sure about their location. Some speculated that they sold out their apparatuses to occasional pawnbrokers, abandoned technology and mixed with other mer races throughout Tamriel, farming and breeding animals to make a living. EDIT My personal Oblivion lore
Chbaakal Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 The very last thing Kagrenac saw in his scrying crystal, before the Dwemer race was obliterated: Kagrenac: "I bloody hate Dwemdows 3.1...."
