What music do you listen to?

Well, don't be so sure.  I've watched ridiculously popular songs over the years where people who speak the language don't even listen to what's being said.  Prime example:  The One I Love by REM.  It was huge in the bar/club scene in its day, primarily because people saw the title.  What they didn't do was actually listen to the lyrics.  The title says one thing, the lyrics, a totally different one.  Basically, it's about cheating because you're bored of the person you're just using to fill your empty time/life.  Pretty sad, really, and I look around and see that it's the state of relationships in general anymore.

I read somewhere that it's a song about masturbation.

And I kinda like that interpretation, makes it sound much more harmless that way. :)

'This one goes out to the one I love ...'

One of my favorite folk singers.  Reminds me of my youth as it's what/who Dad listened to in the car whilst driving us to school.

I find that more than mildly amusing.  I listened to Rammstein back in high school for exactly those reasons.  Then I made the mistake of looking up the lyrics to one of my favorite songs.  Oops.  Needless to say, I don't listen to them anymore.

@AKM as a German I'm now very curious which song was one of your favourite songs back then. If you don't mind to share.

I had planned on sharing what I like to listen to - and then Spotify froze my computer. I like to listen to a huge variety of music beginnign with classical music. I do enjoy some Brahms sometimes. But I also like a very German area of music called "Schlager". Then I have been a big fan of "Take That" for years but it usually comes and goes in waves. I like modern music and also enjoy rock and metal. If one would ask me for a single favourite song I wouldn't be able to name one. There's so much amazing stuff out there.

If you are interested in just the songs I favourited on Spotify then here is the link. I also have several lists for certain themes, events and so on there. One is called "En francais" because I also like to listen to some French music every now and then. And while we are at it: Did you know that "My way" was first a French chanson that then became this hit for Frank Sinatra that everyone knows nowadays? Here's Comme d'habitude in a live version.

The one I refer to was titled "Klavier".  It means "piano" as I understand, but the lyrics are pretty disturbing.

Thanks. Quite interesting but also disturbing. I have to admit that I checked this page for the lyrics. Really like genius because they give you at least some hints at how a song can get interpreted. I guess it's a former favourite of yours after having learnt the meaning of the lyrics. But then there are quite some disturbing songs out there once you take a closer look at the lyrics.

Oh yes.  I've recently mentioned elsewhere here about how even people who speak the language don't listen to what's really being said in a lot of songs.  The example I used was REM's This One Goes Out To The One I Love.  Idiots in the club/bar scene thought it was a love song, but you listen to the lyrics and it's actually about someone who doesn't care about the person they're with for anything other than a time filler.  Rather sad, really.

Thanks once more for sharing. I feel like I need to have a look at the lyrics.

This video below is a current thing of mine. I don't even own "Nifty Knitting" yet, but the song from the trailer got stuck in my head. Since there isn't a real video for the song I consider this is better than the one with just the pack photo on it. And then there is another one with the whole song with also just a picture. Sure, I could have shared it on Spotify, but I thought I'd try my skills on getting it on here. Also thought I could let people know this way what brought me here. ?

I'm so sorry. Chrome gave me an error message after I sent the entry and then I went to bed and was unable to check.

I'm now on Opera as the error message kept showing even after I deleted the cookies.

Back to topic: I tried to fix it in the link but was unable to do so. I thought some sort of code was used by you and others to post videos directly here but apparently I was wrong. I've tried several ways and used the preview but was unable to fix it. So how do you do it? How do you post embedded videos here? Seriously, I need help. It's been years since I regularly posted in a forum and got my hands on a bit of codes for a forum. But back in the day I never embedded a YouTube video, at least I can't remember. Would really appreciate some help here. Sorry for being not smart enough to figure it out on my own.

:classic_wink:
