Rnchu Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 I have been playing Skyrim on the PC since around 2012, and over the last few years my collection of mods has just grew and grew to the point I have well over 100. I can barley remember what the game is like without them. My question is, what mod/mods would you describe as a must have?
snsd4203 Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 It depends on what type of player you are. If you are like me who's all about character customization, mods like hair mods, racemenu, ece are essential if you want the true hardcore game experience, mods like Parkus Maximus, Requiem are essential. But what I think the mods that are necessary for every players should be the unofficial Skyrim patches :/
Mister X Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 For PC, I would say the really must-have mod are- the unofficial patches- SkyUI- RaceMenuBecause Skyrim was designed for consoles, especially the vanilla UI. So to make it more PC friendly, and more stable, these (at least) 3 mods are essential to me. Then I like very much the environment enhancements: - Open Cities Of Skyrim, imho a must have mod, that is quite underrated. - Tamriel Reloaded HD- Climates of Tamriel- Realistic Water Two- Sounds Of Skyrim And if I want to alter the gameplay/immersion a bit, I normally go for:- Immersive weapons/armors- Frostfall- Stealth Skills Rebalanced + Immersive detection of NPC (I'm more the sneaky guy) So these are the mods, from top to bottom the must have to the can have.
Zquad1 Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 & I would also add a must have if you like playing a very powerful mage is Colorful Magic a must have for me to add a bit of immersion is Wet & Cold This is a must have it adds a better HUD clock as well as other features A Matter of Time & This one is an absolute MUST have Familiar Faces
uptower Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 Depends on preference and the power of your rig. For me Vanilla runs fine on high specs, but with a five year old PC I've had to tone down graphics to accommodate heavy mods. What I found lacking in Vanilla was that the world was a little empty and the towns rather sparse. The mods i chose mostly enhanced this with additional NPCs, multiple followers, horses for followers, busier taverns and expanded villages and towns. Some other aesthetic stuff like non-vanilla tavern interiors by Shezrie added atmosphere. Little things like rich merchants and the odd added home to settlements; the roving traders and small town shops; the expensive ancient Nord artifacts and other small details have added to the atmosphere immensely. Sexlab has added a new depth (just trying to get laid is a mini-game in itself). The nudity, prostitution and other peripherals have been very entertaining. Being able to actually simulate a relationship with your followers makes a plus. Especially since I got SL after having the game for several years already, it has given the game a latter-day revival for me. Finally new world mods and new campaign mods. I've done Falskaar, Helgen Reborn and I'm in the middle of Moonpath to Eslweyr. Next is the excellent-looking nautical adventure Here There be Monsters. Basically like OB, the modding community can keep this game fresh and alive until the release of the next title and beyond. Needless to say all this weighs on the RAM and the graphics card. I'm constantly managing mods, cutting stuff I don't need anymore and looking at pretty graphics fixes and other incidental stuff and asking if i really need it.
Mister X Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 & I would also add a must have if you like playing a very powerful mage is Colorful Magic a must have for me to add a bit of immersion is Wet & Cold This is a must have it adds a better HUD clock as well as other features A Matter of Time & This one is an absolute MUST have Familiar Faces Hmm, for me Wet & Cold always was quite buggy and script heavy, it is a nice effect, but it costs too much RAM for a bit of immersion imho. And what I forgot last time, were the - Immersive Sounds Compendium (subtle, but makes a lot of difference, like Open Cities) - Then either Populated Cities together with Populated Roads - or Interesting NPCs together with Immersive Patrols for more life in the world - And the most important one, to me: Skyrim - Enhanced Camera, I like this one most, because it offers First Person view for nearly anything and is compatible with every other mod. It's like that, because it's a SKSE plugin and doesn't have any esp or scripts.
Varithina Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 Apart from the obvious, unoffical patches, skse, etc., I would say Lootification which adds player made items to npc's, vendors and magic item lists http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/32339/? Art of magic for the mage clothing and odds and ends http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/1040/? winny257 Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 in my mod collection are currently well over 1000 GB of mods, they all of them are a must have for me! but unfortunately I can not use them all at once, "a pity". must have TreesHD_Skyrim_Variation by namotep http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/3812/? http://static-7.nexusmods.com/15/mods/110/images/3812-1-1324188501.jpg http://static-5.nexusmods.com/15/mods/110/images/3812-3-1324246588.jpg http://static-5.nexusmods.com/15/mods/110/images/3812-1-1324670128.jpg SkyFalls and SkyMills - Animated Distant Waterfalls and WindMills by SjoertJansen http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/40564/? nutluck Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 I have never had problems with iNeed or Wet and cold. I imagine it depends a lot on how good your computer is. I agree about RM but some people prefer ECE.

DurtyNelly Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 Dark Fantasy Overhaul completely changed my game. It sounds strange that a landscape mod could do that, but once I installed DFO all mods installed thereafter were chosen to reinforce the brutal look it had created.
Niobia Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 For me, it's: PermMa (along with a few of the skyRe plugins). I can never go back to vanilla Sneak Tools because I love sneaking up and doing stealth kills everytime instead of bashing people in the back. Race Menu + the awesome extended skeleton and various plugins. I could create characters all day and never play the game Familiar Faces. Best way to make followers without having to use the the crashy CK BodySlide. Though it's a program, it's super awesome to be able to finally make my own body the way I want it without any knowledge of 3D modeling Sexlab + Sexlab Submit. It's my sex mod of choice since it does everything I need which is basically allow sex with any humanoid NPC which is perfect for RPing relationships there's probably a ton more. Actually just about allt he mods I use are must haves for me because at one point I had 230 installed and i reduced it down to 190. I also have to stay away from stuff with heavy scripts since i already have a good bit of them.

gvman3670 Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 The only things I can think of as "must have mods" would be SKSE, SkyUI and FNIS (since nearly everyone will be adding some new animations at some point). Everything else is pretty much a matter of choice. For me there are a few things I have to have, though. Mod Organizer, Texture Optimizer, some armor and clothing replacers, a couple NPC and follower upgrades, Live Another Life and a few other things. Having SoS and/or SAM is nice, too, since it doesn't make a lot of sense to have better females and not have better males, too. Mod Organizer is a must have for me because it makes it so damned easy to start up a new profile for testing new stuff. And it makes adding mods, keeping a stable Skyrim and finding/fixing conflicts so much easier than any other method of installing mods.
itt1968 Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 I think the vanilla characters are ugly as sin... so the first mods for me are mods that enhance your character... ECE or Racemenu Choice body mod and skin texture Coverwoman Apachi hair better hands and feet HDT heels and body with all its requirements A few animation replacer mods for walking, sitting and Idle Once i get all that installed, I get the unofficial patches, skyUI, The Levelers Tower and about 40 armor mods... then its off to the races!!! RCRN better HD roads HD rocks Pure waters a couple Poser mods Several sex mods.... with a fresh install, I will have about 110 mods total. And it all comes together very nicely with NMM.

Sarathis Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 There are a lot of mods out there that are awesome and I'd probably be miserable playing without now but MUST HAVES... as in the game is nigh unplayable without them... Probably only a few. I'd say: SkyUI OneTweak SKSE Unofficial Patches Safety Load Honestly, you can run Skyrim fine with just those and have a very fulfilling game experience. I, personally, would go insane with just that by this time but those are really the only must haves. If I were to go a step beyond that into just making a better experience, making the game prettier and more functional, adding some small amount of basic customization then I'd add these next: Mod Organizer RaceMenu SMIM Climates of Tamriel W.A.T.E.R. ELFX A Quality World Map Convenient Horses Alternate Start: Live Another Life Face to Face Conversation Run For Your Lives Most of those are pretty much essential to the way I play now. The game plays and looks like crap without them for me. Everything after that is pretty much gravy, graphical enhancements that are far from necessary but really add levels of fun. You can play without all the cool armors, custom races, ENBs, HDT physics and such if you really have to.
