Neptune Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 Im flying off to America tomorrow from the UK, and I just realized my planned carry-on, an ancient skaters backpack, *might* have some 2 year old weed crumbs/particulate at the bottom, should I risk taking it? A few years ago, had quite a bit of the ol herb in it, an some came out of the wrapping into the bag.. But that was a good 2 years ago. I just doubled checked the bottom of the bag, and I couldnt see anything nor smell anything at all, but knowing how nazi the TSA are, they could cause me some real shit. Problem is I dont have another bag to use as a carry one. Ahh, what to do, what to do..
DoctaSax Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 The way things are going, I'm surprised people are still allowed carry-on bags and aren't forced to board butt-naked.
Killikrates~2014 Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 Well, worst case scenario you get a free body cavity search. Of course if you aren't into getting that close with a stranger, you might want to pick up a cheap replacement. The US news is rolling constant coverage of a crashed airliner right now, so enhanced security is almost certain. Possible silver lining, cannabis is now legal in both Colorado and my state Washington, so you can legally enjoy if you visit either of the enlightened States of America. Wishing you a safe and uneventful trip.

RitualClarity Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 If you are checked by dog. The dog might smell the weed. If so he /she will signal the officer and that officer will have to search you, your belongings and everything... cough.. cough... When you are clean. they will allow you to tell your story and they will likely release you. However during this lengthy process you might miss your plane. Chances are a person wouldn't be able to tell at this point provided you don't decide to light up before arriving at the airport.
prideslayer Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 Well, worst case scenario you get a free body cavity search. No, *worst* case, if they actually find any -- they'll take you away, hold you without bail, and at your trial the judge will throw the book at you. For a first offense that's up to 1yr in a federal slammer + $1000 fine. BEST case if they find any is they let you throw it away or turn it over to the airport police and then continue on your way. I suggest you do a thorough job cleaning out your bag -- or buy or borrow a different one. You don't want to win the lottery on this one.
Guest endgameaddiction Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 If you bought a plane ticket, you have cash on you for your travel expenses. i would just buy some cheap bag. It's not worth losing your flight over it. With the way TSA is, all the shitty stories I've read and the stuff I've seen, it's better to go without risks.
Justoutthere Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 If you are in UK the sportsworld do small shoulder/carryon style bags for around £10, its a nobrainer as far as I am concerned the potential cost is so much higher than that.

Now, make sure you fly over to Denver Colorado and there you can legally buy and smoke weed. Problem solved.
RunicGray Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 I echo everyone else - DO NOT TAKE THAT BAG. If they find traces of drugs in your bag, it is as prideslayer says - it could be considered possession, if they were in the mood. I'm not sure why you would risk it at all? If by a stroke of luck you didn't get stopped on the way into the US, what about on the way out? What about on the way back into the UK? Cannabis is illegal in both countries (well, most states) - ANY of them could arrest you for it. Just...just don't take that bag. Buy a cheap backpack or something.
Neptune Posted July 29, 2014 Author Posted July 29, 2014 Well I erred on the side of caution and didnt take the bag. Had a great holiday, got to fire so many guns. AK-47 (beautiful weapon), Desert Eagle (terrible pistol), SCAR-H (absolute monster, dem shockwaves), AR-15 (pretty tame dmr, expected more kick..) and my favorite, the MSAR AUG (STG-556). I would happily make little AUG babies with that rifle.
AKM Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 Glad to hear you had a good time. Good Lord have the prices of ammunition gone up since I was last at the range. What state were you in? Probably just the setup. Looks like a "just to try it" place? Paid about $.40 a round for 9mm last I bought, not $1.714!!

Were origionally in nazi Jersey, but we drove down to Pennsylvania for the gun range/freedom. The place was super popular, with all types of people blasting away. My first time shooting, thought place would be filled with hicks, but instead more resembled midtown NY which was awesome. Yeah those prices include the gun use, lane use and ammunition. If we brought our own guns and ammo, would be much, much cheaper I would imagine.

Kendo 2 Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 Back in 'the day' you could buy that junky Chi-Com 7.62mmx39mm ball ammo for a penny a piece. Used to be able to buy them by the crate. It would be delivered TO YOUR HOUSE FOR FREE still in the unopened wooden military issue box with the sealing foil intact. We could shoot all day for 100 bucks. But back then Yugo SKSs and AK47s cost about 50 bucks. They were still in wrapped in plastic and packed full of factory grease. Those days are long gone now. Thank you, gangstas/Republicans/Democrats/etc. for fucking up a good thing. Back to the original topic (since resolved). The actions of the TSA depend on what airport you land in once you're in America. I flew from Vancouver BC to Houston Texas. Once in Texas I was insulted and harassed by fat, gold-in-the-mouth ghetto types on a power trip. On the same route (but a different trip) I had to change flights from Vancouver at Tacoma WA. The TSA there was polite and courteous and there were no problems. And once I landed in Houston it was the same deal as the first time, even though I had already been cleared by both the TSA and customs in Tacoma. It was a good thing not bringing the pot residue bag with you, whatever the case. Wise choice.

Was unbelievably pleasant to shoot, recoil was next to nothing, and very accurate. Plus, DEM AFTERMARKET PARTS! Jesus, so many options for customization. Personal fav being VLTOR, they make some damn nice things, even for the AUG's which made me some what inappropriately erect. Ive also seen many AR's with that OD Green matte finish as well.. mmhmmm much delicious.. <3 Could you recommend some aftermarket parts manufactures similar to VLTOR? Bet you usta have sucha blast, would love to just grab a AK, few beers an head out with x500 7.62 knowing it was cheap as fuck so no feelin' guilty the next day! The 90's and below were truly the golden era's of many things. Friggin 9/11, globalization, an all those other factors sorta ruined the party a bit. Well at least we have the internet an loverslab Anyways, regarding that ammo, weren't you ever concerned it would damage your weapon or misfire? Then again I'm guessing it wasn't really a problem, as you joyfully experienced. Also guess you weren't to worried as the AK an SKS are some fairly beastly weapons. Your experience with the TSA sounds like what people experience with the cops in general. Some are complete asshats, while others are surprisingly chill. I think it often also comes down to body language, as 70% of human language is communicated through body language. Perfect example, while waiting to go through TSA with my sister (bless her lol).. was obviously nervous, anxiously opening/closing her bag, re-organizing her things in those plastic tubs, an generally looking ripe for getting patted down. If I could see this, then so could the TSA, which they did. She got patted down, but was fine afterward. I didnt get my bags checked once or patted down once cause Im chill, an so is my body language. Still, I was kinda angry to see my lil sis all nervous, then getting felt up by some scummy female TSA agent.. >:| Back in 'the day' you could buy that junky Chi-Com 7.62mmx39mm ball ammo for a penny a piece. You've got a point there, people should support their local manufacturers and their local economy in general. There seems to be a big movement in the UK at the moment to support locally sourced produce and independent brick & mortar shops. This I pretty much support whole heatedly, but only when Im financially secure. Like most people, when you have money, its easy to choose to moral option - but when you don't have much money at all, say living below the poverty line, often the moral option isn't even on the table.
Kendo 2 Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 Anyways, regarding that ammo, weren't you ever concerned it would damage your weapon or misfire? Then again I'm guessing it wasn't really a problem, as you joyfully experienced. Also guess you weren't to worried as the AK an SKS are some fairly beastly weapons. There was only one time where those rounds caused any problems. We were shooting an unmodified Chinese SKS and there was a cook-off where the weapon cleared the whole magazine with one trigger squeeze. That wasn't the ammo's fault, really. Chi-Com SKSs made back in the 1950's were notoriously BAD and shit like that happened all of the time (burs on the receivers, actions chambered too large or to small, etc.) Funny that we were shooting a Chinese weapon with Chinese ammo and that happened. But if you have as many warm bodies as the Chinese Army does I guess you don't have to worry too much about troop safety. Give them an hour or two to learn how to use an automatic weapon and send them on their way. It isn't like they don't have 30 million replacements waiting. One thing about Chi-Com 7.62x39 rounds; DO NOT recycle them for hand loading. Normally a cap is good for two or three normal grain loads (check your weapon specs for the correct grain load) but I would never trust that Commie trash for more than one shot per brass. It's also not a good idea to fire hi-power rounds from AK47s and SKSs unless they are the Yugo models and have had plenty of bench work done one them by a professional gun smith. Just some friendly shooter advice from ol' Kendo. AND NOW WE'RE TALKING ABOUT GUNZ!!! Awesome!

"What parts do you like / which are best" is the kind of question that starts fights on gun forums.. it's tough. There is an outrageous aftermarket for AR15 parts and accessories. Magpul is one of the more well known and poplar manufacturers. LaRue and Troy are both popular as well. I haven't really gone nuts with those parts like some have though. Harris bipod, ACOG scope, Hogue grip, and some unknown replacement handguards. It's a pleasure to shoot. I think I'm going to build a new one, haven't done that yet.
