Surenas Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 Question: Who's "old" enough to remember Daikatana? Is that indeed a serious question? If so' date=' the 2-handed Japanese sword appeared first 2003 in Dungeon Siege (my own mod *g*) and in the following year in Morrowind or more precise: there was a weapon shop near the bridge to Molag Mar (I don't remember the name of the maker). And oh yes - I was some years younger and most of mi friends still played with Barbie and Ken. [img']http://www.dsstuff.de/mods/su_katana/katana.jpg[/img] Me, the rice hat and the 1-h vers., the Katana LOL Hope this helps.
Guest Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 One doesn't have to be a prophet of doom to see the oncoming end of such a nice possibility already in the crystal balls of today. The point is that the remaining backdoor has no future at all. They might close it already in one of the next updates... by strategic reasons alone. End of the story. NB Once the bombs are away the biggest animals die first. Simply because they can't hide in a hole in the ground due to their size' date=' u can guess the rest... [/quote'] While I will not argue with you on your point because the truth of it is clear. I am going to give them the benefit of the doubt, on principle alone. I have to because there really is not much we can do about it. It's their game and we already paid for it. Bethesda said Steamworks would be "optional", and I believe them for Skyrim! However I can easily see this changing in Fallout IV or Hammerfell. All it would take is if the metrics show them the load of cash they can make will make up for the lost buyers, it most likely will happen. But even so not all is lost, I have been modding around since my C64 was new. It was not till the mid to late 90's that games opened themselves up to mods, we just might have to go back to modding with community built tools and go from there in the future. If not then there will be other games to mod. Anyway for now lets enjoy what we have, and worry about that when it gets here. Bombs away!!!!
FastestDogInTheDistrict Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 Bombs away!!!! "We'll meet again... don't know where... don't know when..."
Kraxon Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 Bethesda knows they piss off their long term community hard time, when they disallow steam indepenend mods. I don't believe they would do such a thing. And even steam... Valve is still not EA. They don't do things just alone to annoy people. Valve has even some experience with modding communities, I don't think they would close of their games anytime soon. But naturally, all that could happen very fast with the change of management for example.
demongoat Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 i would think that the majority of modders if they care about exposure of their work will post on steam and nexus. the only thing i could see this doing to nexus is giving banned modders with content that isn't too controversial another way to not get discouraged by the idiots on nexus. i like the idea, it will make it easy for us lazy folks will it kill nexus? i doubt it, like someone said, there will be a core of people who wlll use nexus out of spite for steam. in fact i think steams EULA will make people not use steam, if they really can sell modders work. i guess that is one thing that nexus still has going for it, it still attempts to give the impression that they support the community. gotta make that money somehow with the ads and subs.
LibidoKnievel Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 Kraxon is right in saying Valve is friendly to the modding community. Doesn't anyone remember Half Life? It was one of the first games to have the mod tools readily available and look what sprang out of it. I'm choosing to believe that Beth and Valve will keep things as open as they can for distributing and sharing community-made content.

I don't see them having trouble doing the same things to mods if they think that the workshop works out. After all it will probably have some use against pirated copies, so there is quite some incentive to do so too. Anyway, doesn't matters for Skyrim I hope. And if the CK works properly the Skyrim engine could be good for 5+ years of .. adult mods, so that will do for now
shedidwhat Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 tin foil hat time. if skyrim can contact steam workshop to check for updated mods, what keeps it from checking/reporting mod usage for people that doesnt use workshop.
Guest Donkey Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 I hope we never have to find out the hard way. They could add sexout for skyrim or Lovers lab mods to bann list. And just use skyrim to check who uses theses mods etc.. and track them down and kill our steam account on the fly.
Kraxon Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 They already made their game require steam which did piss of a lot of fans too. I don't see them having trouble doing the same things to mods if they think that the workshop works out. They could. I don't think they would, because the modding freedom is the biggest capital of the Elder Scroll series. It would be really stupid to act against it. Really stupid. EA-stupid. The implementation of steam is annoying, but only for a minority of people it is a dealbreaker as the prohibition of unofficial mods would be.
LibidoKnievel Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 We got some really paranoid peoples on here. Steam may restrict adult content mods, but they are not going to ban your account if you get them elsewhere. I guarantee you Bethesda and Steam have talked about the adult mods, they know they exsist for all the previous games and they know there will be plenty for Skyrim and they have worked out what to allow and what to leave for Nexus and elsewhere. Don't try to tell me that Bethesda's modellers haven't got their own adult mods already. They know what we gamers do because they are or were gamers themselves.
Kraxon Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 Does anyone know how to install steam workshop in order to use the creation kit? Or is it part of the steam application I have on my computer? I visited steam support and can't find anything. o.0
Connor Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 hahahaha....nexus just got owned and so did their mod manager! Hell yea fuck the Nexus!

All there is right now is Team Fortress 2 stuff though.

Steam may restrict adult content mods' date=' but they are not going to ban your account if you get them elsewhere.[/quote'] And not for using Steam to take screenshots with them active either. Haven't dared trying to upload them to the cloud though And i'm pretty sure i have agreed somewhere to not do that
LibidoKnievel Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 I've uploaded nude shots. I don't set them as public, I put them as "Friends Only." However, it would be worth checking out the EULA to see if there is anything in there about uploaded screenshot content. Good point.
Iatrolia Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 I didn't much care for the installation method of mods via Steam Workshop as shown in the video. It looks like it just heaves them in there without any regard for load order and no confirmation for file overwrites. A bit too hamfisted for my tastes. Plus the Skyrim launcher' date=' which I avoid by using SKSE launcher, has a bad habit of reverting .ini changes. I would hate to have to redo my .ini changes every time I ran an update for the Cabbage Cannon. [/quote'] this is exactly my thought... i have painful experience of files overwriting...
Surenas Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 Trust them, but be prepared! These hardliner words by Ronald Reagan from the Cold War are my last in the matter of distributors vs customers. Good luck to all y'all, the paranoid as well as the blind. The truth will establish itself some day somewhere in the middle, hopefully.
zaraia Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 What's with all the hate on nexus? Is it just because it's censored? If so, you guys do realise that we probably won't be allowed to upload any bestiality rape mods on Steam either, right?

Horribly. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daikatana John Romero's Daikatana, or simply Daikatana, is a first-person shooter video game developed by Ion Storm and published by Eidos Interactive. Released on May 23, 2000 Design completed spring of '97. Announced probable release holiday '97. Demoed at E3 summer '97. Porting from Quake to Quake II engine wasted a year. Promised release winter of '99. Promise broken, shitty demo released spring '99. E3 demo in '99 was horrible. Finally released spring of '00. Total failure. When it was finally released, it was a steaming pile of outdated junk.

I would hate to have to redo my .ini changes every time I ran an update for the Cabbage Cannon.[/quote'] What you may try doing, as a test, is under [Display] in your edited SkyrimPrefs .ini file, set sD3DDevice to sD3DDevice="NVIDIA Geforce 8800 GS", even if it's not your video card. Several custom .ini files mess with this, so when the launcher is run, it sees the different sD3DDevice and decides it wants to set it back to NVIDIA Geforce 8800 GS again. Then, while the launcher is at it, it fucks with everything else too. Use NVIDIA Geforce 8800 GS in the setting and you might be fine - at least it works for me.
labrat Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 Listen to the lyrics And would the kind members of the "I Steam" club not send me any more tinfoil hats. My collection is now complete.

[/quote'] From what i hear it's because it's run by hyperactive modzis with enormous banhammers Seriously, they tend to ban people a too easily. Even long time users with files hosted there can make one wrong comment and get banned. Or so i hear. So, i behave there like in life general, keep my head down and don't draw attention to myself And do not comment, just to be safe
