erobyracs Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 I'm pretty impressed with the video, the workshop works a lot better than I had expected it to. Will be interesting to see what the rules on uploaded content will be, at the least I'm hoping body mods and nude textures will be allowed with the use of an age gate. Death of Nexus? Nah, but its influence will be much reduced.
Kayin Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 hahahaha....nexus just got owned and so did their mod manager! I cant wait to see the slow heat death of Nexus. so much this. my only worry is that they will have lots of adult content restrictions :\ Are you still whining about that? You make it sound like getting banned at the Nexus is something new.
prideslayer Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 You're pondering something they explicitly denied. They have added a way to automatically send mods to the workshop. They cannot prevent you (and have said they are not attempting to) from going into your data dir' date=' packaging the mod yourself, and sending it off to other people to copy into their data directories. [/quote'] Thank you for the explanations Prideslayer ,I was a little worried about that. Things may change some day, but for now, Skyrim is safe. It wouldn't be hard for them to do what you're worried about, but for now, they're wisely avoiding it.
Mordyn Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 If there is no mod sorting possible, I'll prefer keep using "manual" installation through wrye bash with tesnexus or whatever website offering content. And about adult content, it will probably be banned from steam. But that's fair, everyone will be happy, because we have the choice to either use it or not...
Glugg Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 And special kudos to Joel Burgess (who originally brought up the idea of using Steam Workshop) for shepherding this process along the way. So if this Steam integration thing blows up in their faces, we can blame this chap?
Madmartigan34 Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 I know a lot of you are excited about the death of Nexus. But honestly, will Steam Workshop allow things like the HGEC Nude Body mods or whatever the hell the most popular Skyrim Nude Body mods are? I can't imagine it will allow anything close to adult content.
Vitriks Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 Steam won't allow any sex content thats for sure. So even don't think about it. And I don't get When the actual release date of the CK?
Spell Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 I know a lot of you are excited about the death of Nexus. I don't like their rules ,however it's still a good database
Morigetsu Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 I'm still laughing. In the beginning they claimed that the creation kit would be ready towards the end of January. Its February 1st.....
Surenas Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 Steam won't allow any sex content thats for sure. So even don't think about it. Hell yeah! As it is written: Nipples are evil! I know that for sure cos I've got mi own pair.

ToJKa Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 And I don't get When the actual release date of the CK? According to Gstaff either tomorrow or sometime next week. And i too would expect that nudity, much less sex mods are not allowed on the Workshop. But that's why i came here
Surenas Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 And I don't get When the actual release date of the CK? According to Gstaff either tomorrow or sometime next week. ... I've got a bad feeling about this...
oblivionwithdongs Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 Not really pleased about this since i hate steam, and i'm sure the kind of mods this site specializes in won't be too welcomed there, if you think the moderation policies on the nexus are bad it will be much harsher with steam.
Mavado Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 ^ So true, I'm sure even a mod containing a topless mesh or texture wouldn't be tolerated on Steam, they'd delete it and auto-ban. Expect it to only be useful for generic, game play altering mods. The most disturbing implication is if they will enforce all mods to require steam distribution to function.
Guest Donkey Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 depends, doesn't steam have adult section.. I am sure they will not bann nude textures. if not they violating there own rules.. Selling game to minors.. Then we should close them down..
Mashi Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 Question: Who's "old" enough to remember Daikatana? "I'm gonna make you my bitch" Hahaha yeah...keep dreaming romero.
ReMeDy Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 I know Nexus is anal about banning and restricting mods, but at least they allow nude mods. They even allowed the Estrus Oblivion mod. I'd rather have a service that is anal about copyright restrictions that allows adult content than a service that does not allow adult content whatsoever. I said it before and I'll say it again: Steam Workshop is a bad idea.
Surenas Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 A flock of sheep is best controlled in a sheepfold. And there they are... lined up for the fleecing *g* Don't follow the modern Pied Piper of Hamelin into a kind of mental and finally financial subjection, the total control by Big Mod Brother. Stay free as long as there is something like freedom on the internet.
XJ347 Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 I don't see what the big deal is. Steam will have MAD restrictions! MAD I tell you! Nexus will not, though they have some. Meaning? Nexus still has legs to stand on. Also note some people will REFUSE to use steam out of spite and post their mods only on Nexus. You know that is true, even if you hate Nexus, people will hate Steam even more. Here at lovers lab we have room too for more specific mods that Nexus will not even allow, let alone Steam. Though we do have a few restrictions ourselves. Point being? Nexus is fine, Lovers Lab is fine, and Steam is, will there...
DonCaballero Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 I didn't much care for the installation method of mods via Steam Workshop as shown in the video. It looks like it just heaves them in there without any regard for load order and no confirmation for file overwrites. A bit too hamfisted for my tastes. Plus the Skyrim launcher, which I avoid by using SKSE launcher, has a bad habit of reverting .ini changes. I would hate to have to redo my .ini changes every time I ran an update for the Cabbage Cannon.
Guest Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 I honestly believe that Steam will be more restrictive, however for simple "structure" mods that require updates... HD texture packs, weapons, and UI's, I think it will work well and do well. As long as Beth lets us export our mods and upload them to other sites none of this should be an issue, use steamworks or don't. It's another option and with as many upload sites that went down in the past week, the more options the better. I other words as XJ347 says Point being? The point being that if we can still post our mods else where, then there really is no point in worrying about it.
Surenas Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 I other words as XJ347 says Point being? [/quote'] One doesn't have to be a prophet of doom to see the oncoming end of such a nice possibility already in the crystal balls of today. The point is that the remaining backdoor has no future at all. They might close it already in one of the next updates... by strategic reasons alone. End of the story. NB Once the bombs are away the biggest animals die first. Simply because they can't hide in a hole in the ground due to their size, u can guess the rest...
Kekeno Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 Of course, you'll still be able to use popular fan-hosted mod sites like Skyrim Nexus to find great mods to play. We did not change any functionality to exclude the way mods worked previously. We even added a few features to help out — for instance, custom INI files can now be packaged into mods so you don't need to backup your INI files anymore.
tekryder Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 It will be good in the sense of telling new players and friends to just get the steam version and be simplified for installing mods (not all my friends are into moving computer files etc). But I wouldn't be surprised if steam makes you agree to distribute your uploaded mods only with them and not share it anywhere else.. Wonder how this will affect the other copies of skyrim..
