problem with nexus?

...when moderators like dante flame a mod and the modder...

Curiosity set to maximum; do you still have a link to this? Years ago I was kind of loose buds with TVD on another forum, and talked to him a couple times right after his promotion, but lately I haven't heard anything. This sounds like a train wreck.

As for Slof... let's just say its not the first time she's made potshots at other people for what they do in their game. But whateves; I can't say I'm surprised if she's grown bitter over the years.

Not that that's any excuse, mind you.

i will need to do some digging to find that, it may be in grumpfs thread about waiting to be banned or one of the many others. Nexus has a habit of causing a lot of members of these forums (both new and old) to rage.

Here's a great example of what's wrong with Nexus.

I'm essentially being told to keep my mouth shut when there's a serious problem there. If you look at the comments thread for the mod in question, multiple people have asked for a clear screenshot or some such of what the mod actually is. All links to the screenshot have been removed quite quickly by whatshisface the entitled moderator. Because Nexus has no authority here, this is what the mod looks like:

That's pretty stupid that moderators would remove your links just so you can let people know that the mod isn't A) A piece of crap or as you said B) malicious programs and whatnot.

IS THERE NO END TO THEIR BADNESS?

and lol at the mod :D

I've posted two or three things on it, you can check my post history but it was awhile ago.

While it is a bit petty on the whole "no screen shots" thing, if you just read the description of the mod the author clearly states what his file contains so I think folks are going a bit overboard on this. :dodgy:

I've been a member of the Nexus since 2004. Surenas is another one that had been there an awful long time' date=' longer than me if I recall correctly. I've seen the place go from a friendly tight-knit community to what it is today.[/quote']

Indeed, I'd been member (actually I'm still one, just banned, officially because of a nude image in my profile, an image that nobody has ever seen) already long before the start of the Nexus, back to the days of the Morrowind fan site when Morrowind was just an upcoming game on the horizon. That was in winter 2001.

The last thing I remember of Eiries was his question on why one has banned Mercuy11, a nude artist. He got the striking answer by buddah the noob that reveals the whole Nexus system since late 2009:

"Shut up, or you'll share her fate!"

Guess he has shut up, right? I couldn't... they had crossed the line. And so I went to war. It was a good day to die. I'm legend *lol*

Haha... I actually went back and forth with Vagrant0 for...months. Every other moderator at the time just ignored me. I think it was lHammonds that time around that gave me a bunch of flack for the thread I posted... I later talked to him in private as well, and he was...pretty vicious. Vagrant0's always been a good guy to me. Shame he doesn't have time to do too much these days it seems.

As for Mercury... no amount of discussing could save her; DarkOne absolutely positively would not let her back in. I don't want to publicly go into detail about the private conversations I had but... it changed my view about a few different people.

Here's a great example of what's wrong with Nexus...

That guy's been doing that in Oblivion for a long time; he has the mentality that if people see it ahead of time, they won't bother checking out the real thing in game. But yeah, nobody has to upload screens; it's just generally accepted that you should if the mod calls for it.

Seeing signs isn't the problem - bringing them on site to public light is, for it calls for courage. But when public courage frequently leads to a ban, the funny meerkat behaviour of the fearful, the common hiding in a hole in the ground comes into play, whereas the minions take over the scene with a lot of self-confidence, as usual. However, survival against the own moral beliefs is just an excuse, and not even the best.

Anyway I'm outty! It's your show now... :P

Fight brave and die well or bow your knees and swallow your anger!

Great stuff, I love how it is insisted that "PICTURES CANNOT DO THIS MOD JUSTICE!", yet the creator does not seem to grasp the concept of a gif or video. :P The mod sounded kind of interesting, then I looked at the screen shot you posted. Yup, never gonna download it.

I wonder what kind of shitstorm this might cause if a kid that got this game thanks to an irresponsible parent (I know two that are pretty chill) then see that mod, and being ignorant, sends a hate mail to Bethesda thanks to that incompetent mod author... Though if the kid manages to convince said parent to Nexus... Yes... Yes.

Yet another jab at members, this time the membership in general, not banished people, made by the chat moderator, BlackBaron2. I can't tell if she/he is joking or not, but it comes off as extremely rude, when we can't say it's rude under their stupid rule of not questioning staff members.

When it says "You cannot rate your own files", I think it should instead say: "You are a sad person and should stop trying to endorse your own stuff. Go back to watching soap operas."

Thanks for letting me vent a bit. It infuriates me that I can't tell BlackBaron2 how rude that remark is.

Jesus, does DarkOne ever care what his moderators say?

Posted

I've never had any trouble with the Nexus, though I was banned mistakenly from a chat comment but it was sorted out quickly by DarkOne after one email and I was re-instated quite quickly.

I co-exist quite easily within this community here and the one at the Nexus. Both, based on HOW they moderate, make for good communities. I actually prefer for the moderation to be harsh rather than free-wheeling and I respect many of the admins I've talked to at the Nexus. Are some of them a problem? Yes, I believe some need some training in social interaction. Are all in need of it? No...

I just follow the rules of both communities and respect the fact that both site owners have the right to moderate and use whatever staff they want to use and set whatever rules they want to set and if I don't like them, I am most certainly afforded alternate methods of obtaining mods and can simply go somewhere else if required.

Many of the complaints I see are a case of unreasonable sense of entitlement by the person banned, not mod/admin abuse by the one who banned them... just remember whose house you're currently standing in and things work out better.

Metal... I gotta say, I have to disagree with you 100% about that thread. Read the Rules for this General Discussion forum and you'll see that Rule #1 is that modders always come first... it's no different at the Nexus. The difference is here a modder can tell a jerk to kiss off... something you can't do at the Nexus. You can however simply report them without fanfare and that works, EVERY single time I've done it. The author of that mod has every right to say "don't post pics in the mod thread" just as equally as you have the right to not download the mod because of his choice. I'm willing to bet that if you did that here, in opposition to the DIRECT wishes of a modder, you'd get nearly the same result...

Hm... it's a weird thing to make a thread about but... have you ever tried to give yourself Kudos? Go on, try it. ;)

Gotta agree with you there, astymma. You put it a lot more bluntly than I did. Although a rare few exceptions exist, from my time there the vast majority of bans were... pretty called for.

And I'm someone who's been close to the chopping block on a number of different occasions, and I'm still pretty okay with most of the staff there, even the ones that had tried to verbally bite my head off in the past.

...both site owners have the right to moderate and use whatever staff they want to use and set whatever rules they want to set...

I don't disagree with that. My gripe is with their attitude. People break their rules and get banned. Okay' date=' that's fine. I accept that. What I don't accept is the need to broadcast each person's offense publicly. There has been more than one occasion where someone has been mistakenly banned, then reinstated, and instead of an apology the staff were like "Yeah, it was a mistake on our part, but you should have done XY and Z to prevent it." That's blaming the member rather than owning their mistake. Personally I have way more respect for those who can sincerely admit when they have erred and apologize.

The other thing that is not about their site = their rules is following people onto other sites and leaving comments and/or banning them from the Nexus for what's done on other sites. I also have a screenshot of Vagrant0 threatening to sign up someone's email to sites that will spam him. Also, you can't even go have a good gripe about them on other sites or Dark0ne might ban you. I take issue with this particularly. People who don't like Nexus aren't necessarily using it to be two-faced, but because there aren't enough alternative places to get mods.

And before anyone goes in and says that people from the screenshots I linked above are scumbags who deserved what they got - I'm not necessarily disagreeing. What I take issue with and am using the pictures to illustrate is that I'm getting the feeling that moderators are stalking us in their spare time, just looking for an excuse. One would think they'd have better things to do.

I agree that attitude is important. Like I've said before, I personally haven't had much trouble on Nexus, and in all honesty, most of the people I've seen get banned there deserved it. That being said, though, some of the staff can come across as openly snarky and hostile (as astymma aptly put it, some of them could use a little training in social interaction). They ban people for being snarky and hostile -- and rightly so -- but then are snarky and hostile themselves? It goes both ways, or at least it should.

It comes down to attitude. If you're going to run a tight ship, fine, but be civil about it. You don't need to make snippy remarks about how you've had to clean up messes and hand out bans, nor do you follow people to other sites after you've banned them. That's just freaky.

(TBH, I'm still resentful about being threatened with the banhammer for telling off a flamer. Should I have kept my cool and simply reported it? Sure. Did I deserve to be threatened with punishment for defending a modder? I'mma say no.)

Anonymice was/is a dipshit and purposely used his blog to spit in the face of everyone after getting banned on the Nexus. He's an idiot for posting his secondary account there (which also breaks Terms of Service anyway.) Fool me once, etc.

The divinexp thing is kind of messed, but I guess he wanted emails, he probably got them.

And of course they'll want to ban someone for sharing someone's Nexus-hosted files somewhere else; they're enforcing the usage options they gave to uploaders.

I suppose getting whacked for talking negatively about the site somewhere else can be rough but...honestly, this is one of the only major modding forums I know of where this is tolerated anyway. Most site admin don't want that sort of thing displayed on their board, and I don't blame them.

I can't think of any time when this sort of banning has occurred... although, in the event that a user was banned and then bitched about it elsewhere, I imagine it's more likely that they'll be more persuaded to just not appeal you.

I'm more bothered later on about:

The only time PMs are looked at...when I think the individual is spreading slander about the staff.

He should have just given us a false sense of security and left it at reports... that reminds me of the whole "we'll break down your door if we have an inclination that you might be fostering drugs." It becomes an excuse to look through anybody's stuff. I mean, I don't think (I hope) they don't, but...

:(

Inspecting PMs on a fishing trip would be completely frowned upon in any organization I've ever worked in. (..and you'd be surprised at the full list of things I'm allowed to do.)

It's a bit like passwords, I can change them, but I can't see them. Before I hand over logs to even internal parties, I usually have to sanitize them to remove anything that might allow a person to be identified. Private messages are private, without serious authorization to turn them over on the instructions of 'security'. I've had to tell people who were quite adamant that they needed identity info yesterday that we don't just hand stuff over.

I didn't know the Nexus did that. If its true, that's a serious demerit.

Got the strange information by a guy from Gas Powered Games that I'd allegedly not be banned on the Nexus anymore, huh?

To be honest, wtf? I couldn't handle that after such a long time anyway, now going over my head in quiet fashion, unasked, if it'd indeed be true. Gotta remain strong and in the exile, teaching apprentices the secrets of AI, investing my bucks further on in Valve and my spare time in other things.

The shadows of the past. Drums in the deep...

Must be a frakkin nightmare of the third kind.
