Who else has no faith in Elder Scrolls 6?

This is just a little rant. Take it for what you will. I've been looking at the state of things with Bethesda, and I have to say that I have no confidence in Elder Scrolls 6. I mean, the fact that they don't seem to give a shit what their fans think, or about the quality of their games, it makes me wonder why anyone is even bothering to have hope for ES6, if the game even comes out (supposedly, it's been in development since 2023, for whatever that's worth). The fact that they're still making updates for Skyrim SE, a game that came out when I was in middle school (6th grade, to be exact), and Fallout 4, which is a year older, tells me that their priorities aren't exactly in order. Also, for anyone who doesn't know, Skyrim (the original, not SE) was unlisted from Steam, so unless you can find a link, you can't find the game.  Here it is.

Thankfully, the last few updates for SSE haven't fucked up my stuff, thanks to me having my modding and game folders in a place where they can't be touched. Now, I like some of Bethesda's stuff. I like Oblivion, Skyrim (only for modding. I don't really like the game itself), Fallout 4, New Vegas, and a few other games. However, if ES6 comes out, and it's not a massive pile of shit, I'll post a video of myself masturbating on PornHub. Of course, I may be 50 years old by that point, but you never know.

I don’t want to be pessimistic, but honestly, if I were you, I wouldn’t wait too long after TES 6.

At the rate the game is progressing, many of us will have moved on to other things by then (in real life, etc.).

TES 6, Beyond Skyrim, Odyssey of the Dragonborn, Rigmor of Tamriel – all these projects are taking a very long time and won’t be out any time soon.

And as for TES 6, I’ve seen reviews and comments online that aren’t very positive regarding the gameplay and other aspects.

In short, in the meantime, make do with Skyrim, and if you fancy an adventure in Hammerfell, there are always mods like ‘Gray Cowl of Nocturnal’, ‘World of Rudra’ and so on.

And, of course, TESO.

I'm not even waiting for ES6. I just have friends, like a couple in my DnD group, who keep talking about how badly they want it to come out. Honestly, the game could never come out, for all I care. If other people want to be excited about it, fine. I just don't see the point. I mean, shit. We'll be getting GTA 6 before ES6, and I'm not getting that game, either.

I lost confidence in Bethesda before 2020... 😂

Over the years, there were people insisting that TES6 was in development since before Skyrim was even released. I mean... on what type of computers? Commodore 64s?

The company was very obviously taken over and milked by horrible people. You can look into it and get their names and industries they came from. It was not gaming.

So, whatever magic they had for Skyrim (which was amazing imo) is long gone. If TES6 turns out to be great it will be like a new studio releasing a great first game. You have to ask, what ratio of games coming out of Microsoft are great? I think that's where our chances are.

When Skyrim released I  was in my prime years. I divorced, changed my job twice, burried my grandfather, my father, lost my best friend and aged enough to became an old man with back problems between Skyrim and now. And "now" does not even have a date yet for the next game. Saying I have no interest in TES6 anymore is an understatement.

I'd say I'm curious about ES:VI, but when (if?) it comes out, it will have to prove itself before I buy it.

Maybe if it had come out earlier, Skyrim would have brought it some goodwill, but that time has passed. If it's good I'll buy it, and if it isn't I won't lose any sleep over it.

What I'm most concerned about is the modding support and CC. I've played this game from the time Bethesda tried to introduce paid mods, to the the current state with their creations. Skyrim still has a surprisingly active modding scene despite the game's age and Bethesda's continued attempts. But what if those creations/paid mods/microtransactions are included from the start? Will an actual modding scene develop around ES:VI, or will it be snuffed out?

From what I've seen in Starfield, it doesn't look great. That might be because the game itself isn't good enough to justify the effort to mod, or it might be that the incentives to push small paid mods on Bethesda's shop stopped an actual modding scene from springing up.

I don't care about TES6 at all. Whatever they do, even if it turns out well (I doubt it), there will never be another game that can be modded to the same extent as Skyrim. Actually, for me, that's what makes this game great, because if it were just the base game, it would only come up very rarely.
By the way, I don't play new games much anymore, I'm not interested in 95% of new titles. PC hardware prices are not normal (in my country you can buy pretty good used cars for the price of a good configuration), and consoles are not going to get cheaper either. I'd be sorry if the gaming industry was good, but for me it hasn't been for a long time.

They steered away from the one thing they're better than other game devs with Starfield, that is building large worlds that feel lived in and environmental storytelling. In every other open world game you feel the sandbox, in older Bethesda games the worlds had some realness to them.

So I don't have much hope.

Welp, my two cents are that they either have luck and can source the license to a studio that is willing to go above and beyond (like larian with bg3) or it's going to be starfield 2.0 .

Not seeing bethesda with it's current corperate structure and senior leadership doing anything groundbreaking imo.

Either way, i would hazard a guess that it will take a couple more decades until we find out.

It isn't even just Bethesda. It's the entire games industry. I have no faith in any game. The slop they keep releasing makes me think I'll be sticking to games I already own for the foreseeable future. As far as new purchases go, probably just gonna stick to AVNs. At least then I can usually try the games before I invest in them and then it only costs me like 10-20 bucks. Hell, during sales I can get several of them for that price and I end up enjoying them far more than I enjoyed Starfield.

Man that's depressing.

It will dispel what little remains of the good will Bethesda had.

Eh, might be, but as long as it's not 'cyberpunk for the ps4'-bad i don't think it will really rock the boat too much.

The averange consoomer is gonna consoom and then complain that no one wants to create nice mods for them.

Edit: Okay, having looked a bit into it, cyberpunk on ps4 might be not a good comparison. I just remembered it having a rather rough launch, but it seems people are actually enjoying it (though it's definitley not the full cinematic experience)

Tbf i dont care. I was never a big fan of Elder Scrolls to start with and now after Starfield i have absolute zero fucking faith in Bethesda making anything solid.

I wholeheartdely believe that Skyrim was a fluke, a simple mistake that got made in a golden window when tech was advanced enough to make something impressively visually but early enough so that Bethesa still had enough old guard who knew how to make fucking sovful games.

Wanted to like fallout 4. I really tried and a lot of things it had going for it was great for me, but the storyline and the way NPC's reacted to it with a "Oh that sucks, anyway" Attitute didn't make it better. Skyrim was and will remain as the last bethesda title I finished and now it's just my comic sex simulator thingy. When your game turned into a better Sex Sim than an RPG you probably should just stop :classic_ph34r:

I thought Fallout 4 was decent, but I can understand why people were disappointed in it. Still, it’s better than most games that come out nowadays. Hell, Black Ops 7 was so bad, most die-hard CoD fans couldn’t even defend it. Even one of my colleagues who is a major CoD fan hated it, because the game requires you to optimize your computer’s motherboard in order to even play it. Even then, the anti-cheat system sucks so bad, you can get banned for absolutely no reason.

As for Skyrim, I found the game boring and frustrating, due to how broken it is. Even with mods, the game still randomly decides “here’s a quest-breaking glitch, because fuck you.” After playing Oblivion, I think Skyrim was such a step down.

I have faith that TES 6 will be very late and unengaging. The price of desktop silicon is driving against new super high ultra resolution game engines, and the actual key is gameplay and characters. I could engage with Mass Effect's Tali and Garrus and EDI, and mourn/celebrate as they live on in memory still bright. The subsequent Mass Effect Andromeda characters are gone like dust. The Starfield conversation interests were an overweight middle ager, a bossy middle ager, and Sam Coe. The best/interesting character with the most lines was Hadrian Sinon, who got one mission. It's likely that any new game will struggle with modding just as inertia - there's enough LE vs SE vs AE discussion to the theme of why move when the existing mod list in version whatever already has details that cater to specific interests that I can't see people diving to a new game, it would need something with options that don't fit with existing Skyrimm or some stable highly interactive VR + real world sensation interface. Starfield has some options for definitely alien stuff, but that boils down to replicating Estrus Chaurus/Spider + From the Deeps + futa daedra. The big tension will be open world vs plot engagement - Skyrim allowed the character to wander way off the path but that means a lot of world building, and plot engagement risks becoming railroads to keep the average player from exploring so that the developer doesn't have to build as much, thinking of Jedi Fallen Order/Survivor. Do I expect I will be playing Skyrim in 5 years? Yes. Will it be with my current mod list? 80% yes - and more about real life meaning some authors move on than something stunningly new.
