Bethesda screwed everyone by making so many updates (and introducing new bugs) that we now got something close to three different versions of the game. Instead of trying to keep up with all the changes, or having exceptions left and right, I'm reworking the guide so it should work independant of your version of the game. But you have to make sure that you downloads the listed mod for your version (I can't take that off your hands 😉). Regarding AE As usual the newest update broke quite a few mods ('thanks' Bethesda 🙄). Stick with version 191 and in case you got the new 'update' follow the instructions in this post. Threadmap 1. But most of the time you simply don't get a complete list of what they actually use or have to watch a dozen or so (*cough* 250 *cough* MxR *cough*) to get a hint of what they might use and then they might switch mods at any time. So this here is my complete list and i'll add a few screenshots (i recommend to take a look there first) so you'll know what to expect if you follow this guide. My goal is to get a beautiful game which is fun and, although it is a RPG, as realistic as possible without punishing you for playing it. So you'll find no nonsensical weapons which have been changed just to have something 'new' (i replaced those as much as possible), and none of the punishing survival mods. But the beauty of it is that you can still adapt the list to what you like. I'm just trying to give you a solid base where you can add the things you like (or remove the ones you don't). See 'Nothing is carved in stone' in post #6. A big 'Thank you' to all the modders out there! The game wouldn't be as good as it is now without you guys and gals! Aylis Posted February 24 Author Posted February 24 (edited) Modlist Here you'll find every mod i either tested or use in my personal build of the game. I havn't had any crashes for a very long time. But there are some things you got to watch out for (see 'Tips and Tricks'). Mod Manager I strongly recommend using MO2 for this. Troubleshooting and adding/removing mods is so much easier with this tool. You forgot something? Just install it and drag'n'drop it into the right position. Loadorder messed up? Just use drag'n'drop again. It got a slight learning curve (thats where the tutorial videos come in). But once you got used to it, this tool is very very helpful. MO2 extracts the compressed files you download into the folder 'Mods'. But this can get confusing when you build up your loadorder. I strongly recommend to create subfolders for the different games (like '.../mods/Skyrim SE' and '.../mods/Fallout 4'). Also any errors showing up in the bottom window of MO2 can be ignored. Those have always been false positives. Try installing something via FOMOD and every option you don't use falsely shows up as an error. One game - several ways to play With Fallout 4 you have several paths to choose from: Starting options Option 1A: Vanilla game (nothing to do for this option). Option 1B: IKAROS (close to vanilla but you can become an Android) Option 2A: Start Me Up (Shaun? Who the heck is this Shaun?) Option 2B: Start Me Up and IKAROS Option 3A: Synthetic Player (You have no idea what I am capable of) Option 3B: Synthetic Player and IKAROS Sadly you can't simply switch between those options as they heavily conflict. So you have to choose what you want to do before you start the game. Installation The most important thing first: DO NOT USE LOOT TO 'FIX' THE LOADORDER! With that out of the way the Installation is quite forward: 1. I always install the mods in the same order they are listed. At the end, when everything is installed i manually move the ESM to the top (while keeping the order in which they were installed) and check that the patches are below the mods they are supposed to patch. 2. Then comes the last step. Creating the bodyslides. Legend Blue are standard files that are required to get everything working. Grey are presets for the creation of bodyslide files. They are for those who don't want to use my pregenerated files. Yellow are recommended optional files. Its up to you if you want to use them. Green and Red are comments and instructions/warnings. Preinstallation Here we got a few things to manually install before we get to our first mod with a mod manager. Spoiler CC Packer This tool helps you to avoid the BA2 limit. Custom Keyboard for Arrow Key Users If WASD simply drives you nuts then this might be the solution. F4SE This mod is needed for quite a few mods to work at all. Just copy the files into your gamefolder (usually …/Steam/steamapps/common/Fallout 4). Watch out to use the correct version for your Fallout 4! FO4Edit Useful to find errors or fix problems. ENB (Rec) I strongly recommend using an ENB for the game (see entry in the 'Subgroup: ENB and Weather'). Wrye Bash We need this to prevent conflicts within leveled lists. Aylis Posted February 24 Author Posted February 24 (edited) Recommended Settings I'll add a few comments for some mods which will give you the best visuals for the game. Bodyslide and MO2 As MO2 uses a virtual installation you have to run Bodyslide through MO2. Just add a link to it in MO2 and start it from there. Spoiler Start MO2 and edit a new link: Then select the 'Bodyslide x64.exe' which is located in your mods folder of MO2: Now Bodyslide will recognize all the armor (if they got a preset for Bodyslide) you have installed. Improving FPS (AMD Radeon) In case you are using a video card from AMD there is an option to improve your FPS quite a bit. The only drawback is that you have to manually copy some files around (sadly there are no permissions to upload a finished setup). For FO4 there's an option to switch the used renderer from DX11 to Vulcan and, if you don't own one of the better cards, this will improve the FPS and gives you a smoother gameplay. To do so you have to follow the instructions in the 'Installing the Vulkan Renderer With ENB' guide. Flagging ESP as ESL It is relatively easy to flagg an ESP as ESL so it won't take a slot in the limited space for ESP. As it might cause problems i recommend to do it one by one and test the game for stability issues. But usually it should cause no issues if you follow those steps: Spoiler 1. Start 'Wrye Flash' via MO2 2. Look for the mod you wan't to flagg as ESL. 3. Check if it shows up with a 'green' text (those are the ones that can possibly be converted). 4. Rightclick on the ESP and select 'Check ESL Qualification'. 5. If a window pops up listing it as 'ESL Capable' proceed with the next step. 6. Rightclick on the ESP again and select 'Add ESL Flag'. 7. Simply close 'Wrye Flash' and you're done. Upscaling All videocards could improve their FPS by using upscaling. For this the following two mods might be helpful. Upscaling OptiScaler Posing mods Those are more for screenarchers. So if you want to get some nice screenshots then the mod might be for you. Poses For The People Edited March 2 by Aylis
Aylis Posted February 24 Author Posted February 24 (edited) Bugs Brown Face This is usually caused by mismatched resolutions of face texture. Recheck everything touching the face and download textures that match. Spoiler Engine Limits The old limit to the number of ESM/ESP (not more than 256 incl. the main files) is well known. In addition to that comes the limit of 256 'Main.BA2'. Going over that limit means running into CTD when you try to start the game. Don't forget that most additions from the CC also use a 'Main.BA2'. So make sure that you only install the ones you actually want to use. Otherwise you will run into the limit much faster. Solution Either remove mods that have a 'Main.BA2' or replace mods with a version with 'loose files'. Removing mods and updates It is not recommended to remove mods after you started a run. But sometimes mod authors change the name of an ESP/ESL when they update their mod and then FO4 complains about it. Or a mod gets changed a lot and scripts got removed/changed and are still baked into your save. As this can lead to instabilities and/or crashes FallrimTools is a great help. In case it won't start properly I've provided a patch in 'Files' that fixes the problem. Seams on Face/Wrists This depends on the used textures and the ENB. Sometimes it seems to be gone, then the light changes and it becomes visible again. After all the tests, and what I read in the threads about it, it is only possible to minimize the effect. It will never be completely gone and is an issue of the underlying engine of the game. Edited April 18 by Aylis

I have downgraded to the NG version and I'm almost there. Just a few glitches with some of the NSFW mods. It seems like no one is active in responding to those questions anymore.

Sadly quite a few mods havn't got an update and arn't working anymore. I keep an eye on those and hopefully they can be included in an update to the guide later on. I had quite a few crashes in the beginning and I had to remove/replace a lot of mods. The build right now is stable (I checked the critical areas) and the mods don't cause issues. The area expansions I used before became unstable, so those are gone which allowed me to finally use PRP and its patches. No conflicts in this regard anymore. The new interior additions seem to be safe and I didn't notice issues with them. Next step: Digging through the mods in my testlist and recheck the behaviour mods for the settlers. The AE update also gave us a few 'free' mods which I want to check out before being able to comment on them. We'll see... Even when the mod is just above PRP, and the patches for it, there are a lot of flickering textures and the rubble and dirt isn't gone. In other words the mod that worked fine before is now broken and no solution in sight. I'll remove the mods as they are now just unnecessary bloat. It looks like some patches and armors also change NPC and overwrite the intended changes (or completely mess up the look of them). AKA I have to run from one place to the next to check the NPC again... But I think I got a solution for the issue (which I then have to add to Skyrim as well). I'm not so impressed with 'Reactor ENB'. I've set up everything as recommended in the description and it looks somehow 'flat' without real shadows. This doesn't seem to be worth the extra strain on the GPU. Btw: 1440P / Interiors ~180-240 FPS / Exteriors ~80-150 FPS (Sapphire Nitro+ RX 9070 XT). So it is back to find a better ENB (got several in mind) and have some comparison screenshots.

If you're going to be looking into replacers, especially face replacers check out x-cell on nexus and idk elsewhere, github? its a newer memory manager that basically replaces most/all of buffout and people are making plenty of facegen patches for it as well. Also I've found one of the best (post load-game) loading time fixes is to disable the transition load screen/force it to be black so it just shows the "helpful" text.

I though Addictol replaced x-cell as it is supposed to be better and has it's own bug crash report system done by the same mod author so you can do away with buffout and classic, only going on what i read. I am no expert I am still a beginner in this world but trying!!

InnocentWorld Posted March 6 Posted March 6 (edited) Struggling a little between Addictol/Buffout/AAF. The only one that doesn't seem to crash is Addictol. I made sure Buffout and AAF were for my game version (1.11.191), still crashing. Tried just using AAF and Addictol, still crashing. If anyone has dealt with this before I could really use the help, if not I'll edit this post should I find a solution. Edit: Deleting the extra .dll files in AAF that were for other versions of the game stopped the crashing. The install guide says they are fine, but in my case they were not.
