Amox's ChocoElf Recretaion Research

I do have to admit though it is questionable as to how Kari got her lips to look really triangular, in particular the upper lip. I must have played around the mouth sliders (usually around the drawn/pursed and overbite/underbite areas) for hours and still I haven't been able to get the same result. The eyes are also questionable as well, although at least they seem to be a bit more achievable (by playing around with the inward/outward and together/apart sliders.) I can see why Nightwynd (and myself actually) would claim that a private head mesh was being used. As much as I'd like to praise our recent achievements in "reverse engineering" Kari's elf, there's still a part of me believing that the elf is custom-made (whether it be through private meshes/textures, or CS, or both), and therefore it's a facial structure that can't be done by just using the ingame character creation screen alone. This is ryu44 we're talking about whose site is pretty much all about modding Oblivion so it's doubtful she went completely vanilla on this one (which is what I'm personally doing to prove otherwise).

Also, slightly offtopic but another thing that strikes me about Kari's elf is how she's looking at us dead-on. I hate to bring up this picture again, Amox, but it truly is a good reference for speculation...

Look at her (she's on the right for those who don't know). See how she's looking at us? It's like Mona Lisa; very creepy yet at the same time it piques our curiosity. By default, our characters appear to be staring off to space (as shown by Amox's prototype work on the left side). Kari's elf isn't robotic and lifeless like our characters, rather her elf has personality and is looking at us. Now unless there's a mod out there that lets you have SMOOTH control that simulates the console command TFC out there (and I'm not talking about Vanity Camera) then there's a couple of possibilities going on here. 1) The elf may be looking at an NPC who's around the same height as her, and Kari just took a picture of her elf from the perspective of said NPC, or 2) Perhaps this screenshot was taken from a slight angle from above looking downward, which as far as I know, is the only other way to achieve the same effect. In fact, a few of my own screenshots show this.

This is all to say that something else could have been going on in "the environment" that might have contributed to the elf's facial structure. Perhaps she was in the middle of an expression (the slightly pursed/overbite lips, the slightly worried/angered eyebrow structure, and the point-blank stare), and Kari was able to capture this moment.

In the end, we could all just be busting our asses when in reality we might have already gotten this elf. Or, I might have just wasted my time writing up a bunch of speculation. Either way, this elf is possibly one of the greatest mysteries I've come across since messing around with Oblivion mods lol. But, I am proud of our recent achievements and many thanks to those who contributed in this thread. IMO, I'm happy with the elves that we've made so far even though they aren't 100% exactly like Kari's.  :P

To me now they look pretty similar, it's just spending some time with the traditional facegen.

I'm pretty sure that he did this with the Construction Set as I was playing with some other NPCs. Some of them have this angry look in their eyes so..

If it comes to the Construction Set which has no boundaries I'm sure as hell. Many great works I've seen were made exactly here. Just face it, the in-game facegen bites ass. Besides, the thing lies between the lips and checkbones. When you adjust checkbone sliders you're making the eyes look smaller and seductive as in the example. But when the slider is too big you can't fully recreate the head shape.

She's a bit angry and ugly but I was doing it 30 secs.

Lol'd at that. Then Kari must be a DaVinci of Oblivion's character making.

That's really possible, besides: look at this ryu44's blog entry. Here he posted some screenshot of a character which really resembles Kari's work.

Either way, this elf is possibly one of the greatest mysteries I've come across since messing around with Oblivion mods lol.

And definetely one of the greates PCs ever made. I'd love to continue her adventures not only in my Cyrodill but also in the land of Skyrim.

Actually the angry-look is far easier created with FaceGen Modeller then imported in Oblivion.

What happens is , you first generate a great looking face, then within oblivion you can still change it in-game.

Oh, I forgot to ask - how to export Oblivion generated face to Construction Set so you can modify it and then import it back to the game?

Export it with wrye bash into an .esp. First, you need to make a copy of the blank.esp which you can find in Oblivion\Mopy\Extras folder. Rename it however you want, though I would suggest something like "facelibrary.esp". Now place the facelibrary.esp in your Oblivion/Data folder but DON'T activate it! Now, back to wrye bash. There you need to rightclick on the facelibrary.esp an select import -> face. Select the save you want to import the face from. You'll get a message under which name your face is saved. Open the construction set and load whatever .esps and .esms you want to load and select the facelibrary.esp, too. Under the NPC tab in the CS you'll find your face you imported earlier with wrye bash.

I'm not exactly new to created nice characters, but since I'm only recently getting all these Japanese beauty mods, I'm pretty much a newbie again.

So I decided to give it a shot in attempting to make a bit of the replication of that PC character everyone is trying to get.

The hair is different because for some reason I don't have that hair mesh and I don't know how to get it.

This is from the Chocolate Elf Xeo Female.

So here are pretty much my failed attempts so far.

Both pics are basically different angles and lightings.

@ megadomonic: Nice one! :)

Strange if you don't have the hair... it should come default with XEO. (Personally, I have XEO5 and XEORC4 installed.) If you only have MBP and MBP++ then it may be possible that you won't have the hair. If anything, you can download the SKS Ren hair pack, which has hairstyles including the one used by Kari's chocolate elf: http://www.loverslab.com/index.php?topic=77.0

I got all the needed mods.

MBP, MBP++, 2ch, Xeo5 and XeoRC, that x117 thing, all of it.

I'm guess I have my load order wrong.

But anyway, I'll get that hair and do some recreation work to see what I can get.

Hmm, the hair you'll need is "CoolHair49". I think it only works with XEO-modified races or those that use Ren's head mesh. Go through the list of hairs you have during character creation, you should see it.

I found the hair, lol.

Weird how I didn't see it before I made that character but now I do.

Well, those eyes on that PC character has to be either modified through an outside program, or some kind of facial expression.

And those tattoos are obviously the player's personal creation unless proved otherwise.

Nice ones, Donkey! Seems like pink's tip for glossy skins are really taking off now.  :)

As for me, I think I'll take a break from recreating Kari's Chocolate Elf for now. I've done the best I could and came pretty close to recreating it without the use of the Construction Set or anything outside of the ingame character creation mode. The eyes could definitely use a little more tweaking but I suspect that Kari's elf was in the middle of an expression or something. As for the lips, same thing but if anything I've realized it's trickery of the light that gives the illusion of a triangular upper lip. Anyway, Kari's original will always be the best but I am proud of what I've done up to this point. Below the pic is the save file incase anyone wants to copy the face onto theirs, otherwise if you want to play the character feel free but just make sure you have the Alternate Start mod or you're going to CTD immediately after loading...

I think the lips could be a bit smaller and her chin could get a bit of tweaking. Anyway - great job miniAKIBA. Now that weekend starts I can dedicate some of my spare time for playing with all that stuff.

True. It's not on the save file I posted above but on my latest "nightly build" (for a lack of a better term) the lips size have been brought down a notch or two. The chin could be a tad bit thinner now that you mention it, I'll work on it some more in the near future. For now, I'm taking a break as I've done nothing but this for the past week and I'm burnt out, man! Lol :)

I look forward to your progress though, your model seems to have a better chance of replicating the look.

There goes my attempt of messing around in Construction Set. There goes that weird bug again - I can't move anything in the preview mode.

This thread made my brain hurt  :'( Btw, Would be nice to get ONE post/thread just posting links and requirements for this race/face :3

Ehh. Are you even following this thread? Almost any character on this forum concerns MBP and Xeo.

I gave you the link to thesin's post where you can download all the MBPs and XeoSP. Also there are plenty of links to ryu44's site where you can download latest version of Xeo.

@edit

Oh my heavens. I was checking HongFire today and I bumped into fg109's post. Great, great, great.

Great work !

and thank you very mutch for the glossymax tool !! but I have a litlle problem, it works with body skins, but not with head. Is there something to do to have à glossy face skin ?

I use MBP, MBP++, x117,  xeo5 and xeoRC4

(sorry for my bad english :x)

I have tryed to put .nif in glossmax, but they are "skip"

I am playing with chocolate xeo elf and diablo. I will do some screenshot to show how it is.

Okay, I tweaked my ChocoElf some more. The differences are still noticeable but I think the overall face is better than my last attempt. The eyes still need to be more almond-shaped but it's really tricky. I'm assuming to get the effect I'd have to play with the inward sliders, but by doing so her eyes become ridiculously slanted-looking, and whenever I try to offset it using the apart sliders, she becomes more caucasian rather than asian lol. I probably just need to make her eyes bigger or something. As for the lips, the shape seems to be right. On the screenshot it appears thin but that's due to the lighting. If anything though, I do need to either lower the lips or shorten the chin height... Overall, I feel like I'm actually getting closer without having to mess with the Construction Set, so I'm hopeful lol.
