[WIP] Skykids - Child races & other technical goodies - No more armor patcher! New CotS R2 Race!(6/22/15)

I haven't had these problems, except that the girls skirts that you can get for gifts aren't there, I use cbbe so I don't know if that has something to do with it.

I don't think that the jumping animation is just on the kids but adults as well, forgot where I read it. They all seem to use the same animations in the CK.

I have 2 problems right know.

first one ; I patched with skyprocc, i do have a SK Child Armor swapper esp, but my char is in underwear. i cant wear armor.

second problem; when jumping the char is "stuck" in the falling animation sometimes.

Someone got a clue how to fix these problems?

Regarding your first issue, please attach and post the file located at 'skyrim\Data\SkyProc Patchers\SKArmorPatcher\SkyProcDebug\=--Debug Overview--=.txt'. For the falling animation bit, that's a vanilla skyrim/generic mod issue, there's nothing I can do about it(and pretty much every race has it).

Hey en_hawk! Is there a way for me to attach the Pretty Khajiit parts to the khajiit child race? So I can have adorable eyes and stuff.

Just an FYI with the armor patcher.

So I noticed after patching all the armors for SkyKids, my SoS armors no longer work. All my adult males have holes in their crotch now because of the armor patcher. Removing the armor patcher fixed the holes in their crotch, but now the SkyKids can't wear any armors.

So if you use SoS Revealing Armors for adult males, you gotta choose between having holes in your crotch on your adult males, or having armors for SkyKids. So SoS is not compatible with SkyKids (I'm not talking about schlongs for kids, I'm talking about schlongs for adults. SkyKids removes them from adults when using the armor patcher).

Which kind of sucks. :(

Yeah, you should be able to replace the art assets(Data\Meshes\actors\character\skykids) without it adversely affecting the NPCs or anything else that's already setup. If it comes down to it, I guess I can start making custom addon races that use the visual assets of other other mods for folks that want them...

That... should not be happening. Admittedly I've never used SoS myself so I haven't run in to that one before, but I guess I'll have to install it and check this out as that's a pretty big incompatibility. Anything specific I need to replicate the issue?

Yeah here's some more information for ya.

I'm currently using SoS Full from here on LL. But that is working fine and dandy. It's the armors that are having a hole after I run the patcher.

The armors I am using are from here:

http://www.loverslab.com/topic/26667-sos-male-vanila-armor-cloths-conversion-for-sos/

http://www.loverslab.com/files/file/734-sos-dawnguard-male-armors-conversion-for-sos/

http://www.loverslab.com/files/file/735-sos-dragonborn-male-armors-conversion-for-sos/

Those are the revealing SoS armors for males.

I'm thinking though, that the problem lies in the fact that they are unrecognized mods in BOSS. So when I run the armor patcher, they don't get added to the armor swapper esp because they are unrecognized mods. So I'm guessing that might be the problem.

Problem with that is, I have no idea how to edit a userlist and add them to it so they are recognized and so the armor patcher will recognize them in their proper load order. I tried BUM, but it was extremely confusing and there is no tutorial on how to even use that program. And I don't know anything about userlists and how to manually edit them, so I have no idea on how to get my armors and other mods to be recognized by BOSS.

I always manually move them into place with NMM after running BOSS, but since BOSS doesn't recognize them, it always throws them at the bottom and so the armor patcher won't recognize them either. So if I can figure out how to add them to my userlist so they load where they should be loading, and then run the patcher so it recognizes them, it might work. But I'm clueless in that department.

Ok, that's your problem. Things not being detected by BOSS is guaranteed to break something in one form or fashion.

There's an FAQ section that deals with this('Armor mod X isn't working with the armor swapper'), and briefly touches on the information required for adding custom user rules, I would suggest you consult that as well as the BOSS documentation to get those up and running. I can't really help you beyond that, as I don't actually use the GUI user rule manager; I've been doing this since oblivion so I'm kind of used to just editing the userlist by hand, which is not quite the most intuitive process for a beginner... (If it really comes down to it, I could probably make you some userlist enties myself without actually installing the stuff, but try to figure it out on your own first.)

Yep, that was exactly the problem.

Went ahead and read the documentation (didn't even know it was there lol) and figured out how to add my unrecognized mods to my recognized mods.

Ran BOSS after doing all of that, and it sorted all my unrecognized mods into my own custom load order. Then ran the patcher, let it do it's thing, logged in game afterwards, and now all my armors finally work again for my adult males.

Thanks again for the assist. Glad we got that sorted out. :)

Hey there en_hawk,

Really enjoying the mod and haven't had any problems that a little reading didn't fix, thanks.
You said something a while back about making a version that didn't cause sunken cheeks when becoming a vampire. I know that it's not a high priority item so I'd like to have a go at it if you could point me in the right direction. I'm pretty sure it's not as simple as toggling a flag in the esp but I'm not sure where to start looking. I'll start digging and learning if you can give me a starting point.

Thanks.

ok i searched for this, but it was difficult, if this has been covered can someone direct me?

how do i change Lucia's default outfit to something patched by the armor swapper? i changed it in CK and made an esp, but she still wears the other stuff.

can the NPCs even wear custom armors or is that only for the player? a little confused. :(

edit: i get stuck after the biped part. when i goto the outfit dropbox it doesn't let me select it.

You could always just give her the outfit via console if you wanted. As long as the armor is higher rating, she'll wear it. Just click on her and type additem <ID> 1, and then equipitem <same ID> 1.

Or you could use a mod that lets you change NPC clothes like: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/11662/?

so the IDs of the kid sized armors/clothes are the same as the default ones? i guess i was confused about that.

i don't play a Skykid, so i don't really know how everything ticks yet.

i'll try the console method, thanks.

edit: yeah that was easy.. >,<

it's pathetic how bad i am with the console. time to do some much needed reading.

You can do it via editing the skeleton nif(not the hkx), I can show you how if necessary. Stay away from ECE; its shite and a technical conflicting mess(use CGE and install the ECE morphs pack instead). On that note, no one has managed to create a correctly functioning in game skeleton editor which preserves inherent scaling values present in the nif file; you need to do it by hand if you want it done right.

so if i want to change a kid NPC's hair, i have to do that TESedit procedure?

i use a mod that assigns NPCs custom hair randomly, it works on kids, but it can only choose vanilla options.

is there a way to circumvent that? or some alternative method (like the CK)?

You're going to need to link the mod in question so I can look at it, but I can foresee nothing but bad things coming from it. The vanilla replacement faces are baked with CGE, not the default system in the CK/ingame, so if you start changing bits its either going to gray-face them or best case scenario revert their faces to the pre-CGE versions(which are quite undesirable) when it swaps the hair out.

As for the actual hair selection with that mod, assuming its using the default formlists like everything else, you'd need to load the cosmetic mod patches linked(and explained thoroughly) in the OP.

Well then, I am anxious to find out, because I really want to tweak the skeleton for a more "preschool" look and less of an undersized teen.

Anyone else getting a weird facegen data issue with this mod installed? I am sure it is because of something I did wrong, but I can't for the life of me figure out what I did or if I did do something wrong... I have seen this on Lucia so far, and it appears that she is the only child in Whiterun to have this happen to her, but it may be that something is off with my Skykids Hearthfire addon install now that I think about it, as she is added via Hearthfire... I will have to do more testing, but that may be it. It may be an issue with my Hearthfire addon install for this mod... Here is the SS 2014-04-29_00001.jpg?t=1398809847

Make sure you don't have any other mods that alter the NPCs(or if you do, make sure the SK replacers load after them), and try reinstalling the HF addon and overwriting to ensure the facegen data is correct. The effect you are seeing is a result of a discontinuity between the NPCs face in the plugin(whichever plugin loaded last) and the actual exported facegen data; skyrim just kinda breaks and does this when that happens..

i used to have that problem with CotS which is why i ultimately moved to this. i'm still joyed by how well this works.

This is an awesome mod that I've briefly tested, but I have a couple questions:

  • Is there a way to use the face presets from RCotS with the races of this mod? I find some of the faces of that mod a bit more appealing, kinda more "cute", like for example the khajiit ones that have much bigger eyes and what seems to me a more childish face. I've tried to emulate this, but even with the CharGen patch, I don't see as many sliders as with adult races, including the eye size ones.
  • Does the NPC replacer switch the races of some children? That's another thing that I liked from RCotS, and I would love seeing some argonian, khajiit and elven children around.
  • Currently I use Xvision Children with Prince & Pauper and non-essential children patches. How compatible are all these mods with Skykids? I'd be happy to ditch Xvision, the faces always looked weird to me, but I like the child clothes that PaP adds, as well as the non-essential patch.

I'm currently doing some merge work with my .esp files so I uninstalled this in the meantime, but once I'm more sure of how things work I'll retake them.

Glad you like it, I'll go through these one at a time.

Well to start with, SK uses the vanilla facegen assets as opposed to custom ones like RCOTS does(they're copied into a custom directory of course). I asked people what they wanted for facegen back when I was setting everything up and nobody really seemed to care, and since I'm not exactly that great at making faces thats just what we got stuck with. You can still make good looking faces, they just need a lot of love with CGE to make it happen(case in point, the vanilla replacer faces, they were all done with CGE). As for the missing morphs it could be the nuska morph pack if you have it installed/enabled for the adults as that isn't enabled with the patch, though the eye size sliders are part of the ECE morph pack and should be present as they are for me. CGE has been updated and merged into race menu and supposedly no longer needs patches for custom races, I still need to play with it, but you could give that a go in the interim to see if it helps.

Does the NPC replacer switch the races of some children? That's another thing that I liked from RCotS, and I would love seeing some argonian, khajiit and elven children around.

Not at present, right now everything has been kept as close to vanilla as possible. If that's something people are interested in I could look into it in the future.

Currently I use Xvision Children with Prince & Pauper and non-essential children patches. How compatible are all these mods with Skykids? I'd be happy to ditch Xvision, the faces always looked weird to me, but I like the child clothes that PaP adds, as well as the non-essential patch.

SK should be compatible with anything as far as conflicts are concerned, as long as it doesn't try to alter the same vanilla things that SK does(ie the vanilla children, but that's about it). Admittedly I am unfamiliar with PaP, though any clothes designed for the vanilla child races are likely going to be incompatible by nature(vanilla child clothing is setup differently than regular clothing, which is what SK users). If you provide a link I can look into it in greater detail and possibly make a compatibility patch. As for essential/nonessential, the SK children are non-essential out of the box, I just haven't got around to making patches to change them back and forth at will.

Hopefully that answers your questions. Anyway, that brings me to a couple of questions of my own that I've been meaning to ask for a while now and just haven't go around to. I'm curious as to what you folks want to see done to the mod now and in the future?

There are other child mods out there seem to be significantly more popular than SK, despite being rife with technical errors, conflicts, and general all around bad practice and bugs. I'm curious to hear what the average user thinks/sees in them that they prefer over SK. I'm committed to making the mod better, so if you want to see something happen now's your chance.
