[WIP] Skykids - Child races & other technical goodies - No more armor patcher! New CotS R2 Race!(6/22/15)

I was using this one for a while, but it must have conflicted with one of my other mods I guess. It caused all foresworn and bandits to be nude, they wouldn't ever wear their armor. Any clue what that issue might be? I have gone back to RCOTS version 2 for the time being. I just use the mods for vanilla npc replacement, not to actually play as a kid myself. The downside of RCOTS is that the urchins still appear as the potato heads :(

my sk armor swapper is complaining something about record lengths being off... wat?

That is literally impossible, skykids.esm does not override/alter/touch a single vanilla form. You sure you didn't have some left over RCotS junk still activated when you switched to SK? Just to make sure here, these are vanilla adult bandits/forsworn and not child versions added through a different mod, correct?

I started a brand new profile with mod organizer, so I don't think I could have had any left over stuff. It was both vanilla adults, and also added child bandits and foresworn that appeared to be not able to equip their armor. More than likely I am doing something wrong, I am not experienced at modding at all. I am going to start fresh again tonight, and go one by one with all the mods that aren't just retexturing mods. I suspect it might be interesting npc, immerive patrols and or inconsequential npc that is the issue. As far as I know those are the only 3 I have that drastically change the vanilla bandits and foresworn.

Sorry had to edit, I use mod organizer not mod manager.

OK I am at a loss now. Created a new profile, used the mod that lets you start a new life rather than go through the whole beginning sequence, other than that I use a UNP Petite replacement mod with UNP armor replacements. I started off owning a home in markarth, and got to ender's house(the silversmith). The daughter is naked. I installed the core skykids, the core armor, and the vanilla replacer. The only thing I could think of that could be screwing stuff up is the UPN Petite replacement mod? I don't know.

You ran the armor patcher and activated its esp, yes?

Oh man, I am an idiot lol. Blame it on the alcohol, but I forgot all about running the armor patch. OK, she is not naked. Heading to find some foresworn and bandits now.

Got gutted by a few foresworn but at least they were not naked :D Now for some bandit action.

Is there a specific series of, or at least one non-standard armor mod patched for use with SK? Like Immersive Armors or anything like that? Or any known links to mods that include the correct assets for the patcher? Im wondering because this mod is already pretty big. With the addition of the NPC Child replacer, even bigger and so I think that it would be in the benefit of SK to start perusing these possibilities, if this has not been done already.

As a side thought, how much work exactly, does it take to fix an armor for use with SK in the armorswap? Like what exactly needs to be done?

Ok enabled child foresworn and child bandits. So far everyone is dressed, althought the foresworn and bandit kids are potatoheads, even when loading them before all the skykid mods. Next up enabling the other npc mods and see how that goes.

Enabled all my npc mods, and so far everyone is dressed. Addon NPC kids all seem to be potato heads so far, but that is livable unlike naked people all over the place. Going to try a bash patch now and see if it helps any with the potatoheads.

So far everything is working other than potatoheads. Maybe I was a real dumbass and never did the armor patch. Will test some more tomorrow. :D

As far as I'm aware, there has not been any releases for mod-set armors.

As for the process of converting/resizing meshes, the answer is mutli-layered.

Depending on the mesh being converted, it could be as simple as removing the body 'base', adding the SK base, and scaling down some portions.

For others, you would need to trim the mesh, realign the normals, renumber the vertices, then add the SK body base.

Add to that any personal taste for detail/realism/etc. and you would need to reshape the mesh itself to fit the SK body.

Sometimes it could be very easy, done with just a few tweaks with NifSkope, others you'd need to break out the big tools like Blender or 3DS and do some dirty-work.

It really depends on the mesh you're working with and how much you want to do.

The other option that might be possible for doing conversion would be if someone were kind enough to rig up a Bodyslide2 conversion template for the SK body.  Bodyslide2, if I understand it correctly, has an accompanying tool that can convert meshes fairly easily to different body shapes as long as the mesh being converted is weighted properly. I don't really understand bodyslide, so my guess as to if or how it works is just that, a guess.

I think a better idea would be to download the armors you like and then use tes5edit to merge them into one esp, then run the armor patcher. That way the kids and adults use the same sets and you don't have duplicates everywhere.

Ahhh see i figured that most items would probably require the longer method :/. and i had no idea about the Sk body base-- Im fairly new to the mesh creation/editing side of all this but im interested in learning. So why I asked. If anyone is interested in doing some conversions and would want some help (or dead weight, depending on how you look at it ;)

im willing to learn. I find that its much easier learning that way than working of vague tutorials.

with the way i undersstood this, you're saying that they should all use just the default, adult mesh?? They already do if you dont have the edited ones for the armorswapper-- which is fine if you dont mind your PC body bulking up when you dress. The armorswapper is very clever and i think that we need some NEW SK-dedicated meshes for the armorswap. This is SK's glory stroke in my opinion but there's not much for it so far :/

I'm talking about using the SkyProc Patcher, my npcs are still skinny little runts when using patched armor, but that could because I have their weights at 0, I'll have to see what its like at higher weights.

The thing about bodyslide2 is that it still needs a bit of work, its great for simple armors, but armors with lots of parts suffer from alignment issues, or it could be that I'm just crap at using it.

You should have a go of it, you can import the sk body nif where it asks you for a slider set when you start a new project. The tutorials aren't that long for it, copy / paste the steps required to notepad and you'll see that its really short.

I don't follow, why would you want to do that? The armor patcher handles everything behind the scene, that was kind of the point of it; to get away from that sort of thing...

This is the mod that screws up the bandits and foresworn I think. After I enabled it, at least the kids were running around naked.

Uh, I'd suggest not using that in the interim. I'll go look at it to see what its doing and if it can be 'fixed', but I don't understand why you would want to use that in the first place...

Don't need to fix anything on my account, no problem just scrapping it here, as I don't really need it. I think it was on one of the suggested mod lists I found when I first decided to start adding mods.

nevermind my post earlier after some tinkering i realized the load order for rc was after skykids.esm and i assume thats why the armor patcher was having issues detecting that i had rc installed

no i am thats why i was so confused somehow boss didn't configure properly it was most likely an error of some kind on my part

i thought i did everything correctly i followed the instructions to the letter but i still managed to mess it up but i figured it out and was a learning experience

im not exactly a professional at this stuff yet

Have there been any plans to add race-specific "flavor text"?  For example, it's weird that Bolund calls my Nord girl a "provincial".  This may require some modification of the race compatibility mod.

Yeah, always bothered me a bit that Galmar would ask my Nord boy why he wanted to join the Stormcloaks, not recognizing that I'm a Nord.

So I've been wondering about something.  I love playing with my kid toons, whether it's SK (which I'm leaning towards) or Rcots.  They both have the same issue tho... and that's the arms.  They both hold their arms out away from their bodies, as if saying, 'He was this fat.'  Or maybe they are doing a John Wayne impersonation.  If you use the weight slider on a male SK or Rcot, those arms just go further and further out, but even at 0 they are bowed.  Is there a way to fix that?

Edit - Apparently it's just boy toons.  Here's a pic to illustrate.
