[WIP] Skykids - Child races & other technical goodies - No more armor patcher! New CotS R2 Race!(6/22/15)

So I've been wondering about something.  I love playing with my kid toons, whether it's SK (which I'm leaning towards) or Rcots.  They both have the same issue tho... and that's the arms.  They both hold their arms out away from their bodies, as if saying, 'He was this fat.'  Or maybe they are doing a John Wayne impersonation.  If you use the weight slider on a male SK or Rcot, those arms just go further and further out, but even at 0 they are bowed.  Is there a way to fix that?

Edit - Apparently it's just boy toons.  Here's a pic to illustrate.

Yup, that's an animation thing. All males in Skyrim stand like that.

Ironically, the feminine animation mod I use applies to both genders for some reason on my game. Works fine on my little boy, but then I made a big burly guy... and it's hilarious looking. That said, the animation mod doesn't change that idle standing animation on my males. I'm pretty unfamiliar with how to mess with animation mods like that and applying them to different genders, but it's worth looking into.

As others have said, its the male animations. I could try swapping them to use the female animations and see if that does it for you, as I agree the default male ones are quite unfitting.

Posted

Is it possible to use a custom animation path Instead of just swapping to female?

It would of course require packaging animations with SK (or as an optional addon), but having separate anims for SK does match the no-conflict philosophy.

Okay so i was looking around and ran across a kind of 'modular armor' mod letting you use various parts of the different armors to mix and match more or less, so you could have for example, say, the golden feathers from the bottom of the elven armor, with the breastplate of steel plate armor and the glass pauldrons, making your own unique armor. Would this be compatible with SK? If not, would anyone be interested in converting it? im not familiar with the proper selections to use when exporting meshes/textures.  ill help, and id have quite a few questions but once i get started, id be alright. (Of course, we'd have to get permission first but lets save that bridge for then.)

So, Seiji-Chan, what mod do you use?  It's not *too* feminine, is it?

En-Hawk, is there a way I could do that myself?  I'm worried about downloading new stuff for SK cuz I don't want my evil, world-ending nudity to be overwritten.

That would break all custom animation and pose mods, and the end user would have to manually copy all of their files to a new directory(for SK) to get them working, or run yet another tool any time they add or remove a mod.

They'll work just like anything else, however they wont be fitted for the child bodies. I cant think of any good modelling tutorials off the top of my head, but if you already know your way around blender and gambryo nif files, I think I have some instructions around here somewhere that will fill in just the stuff you need to know for skyrim...

It would be a plugin change not an asset change, you would only need to add/replace an esp/esm.

Anyone use Immersive Armors?  Just noticed something odd today.  I've worn several of the different armors avail. In fact, my Ashen Follower Kjartan is currently wearing JuSkyriman's edited version of the Witchplate armor (it's only edited to make it topless, not to fit).  Anyway, today I tried wearing one of the 'unarmored' robes available.  Looks like my guy is stuffed into a giant suit (I thought Talking Heads Stop Making Sense video, for you older folks like me).  Any idea why the regular armor would scale to fit a kid, but not those?

Uug. Blender. ghthgfhsrhgfnxfhmdt. Ive WORKED with 3DS Max before and kinda get it but completely lost when it comes to blender. moving polys or cutting architecture, okay not too bad but more advanced and especially straight out modeling gets a lot more troublesome. However, the instructions you have as well as any thing instructional towards specific exporting settings would be greatly appreciated. Particularly helpful would be something related to weight painting or anything else that could help things fit right. Im posting in a main thread looking for ideas and possibly, help on a project.

(first part @en specifically, 2nd at anyone in general)

Also, since im posting, i ran into a problem today and i THINK its SK related but im not certain and it saddens me as its a roadblock to the Dawnguard questline.  When i have to recruit Sorine Jurard, id already got the gyros and she asks for one and i pick Ive got one here and then nothing happens. I run a lot of mods and am asking if it COULD be SK, since you know more of it obviously lol. i also have all the USKPs but not much else involved with that questline.

2nd part is that ik this can be solved by advancing quest stage but i have no idea the parameters, format, or particular quest stage i need to use. and if i do that, besides 'passing the quest' she will still goto dawnguard right?

@Seiji-Chan: you might find this interesting for doing animations

I don't have the patience for that stuff, lol. I spend so much time modding Skyrim, let alone playing it, that I really am not too interested in learning how to make animations myself. Thanks anyways, I'm just looking for other animation mods and would like to know how to use them on male or female.

Try the "Hmm What To Wear" mod. I'm using it with RCotS and it's great, since you can use either the UNP or UNP petite bodies (which hardly look different from the RCotS bodies), by way of armor masks that give stats and can be enchanted. They're basically invisible armors, then you put your modular cosmetic armor piece by piece after. Granted when you put an armor mask on (there's a UNP or UNP petite version of each armor mask), it DOES change your body type to UNP or UNP petite. I think... Honestly, the change from the RCotS body is so minor it's hard for me to tell what's going on there. Just make sure you use UNP modules with a UNP armor mask (or UNP petite with UNP petite) if you want the armor modules to fit and look right (especially panties/pelvis pieces).

Unfortunately I also use Schlongs of Skyrim, and it breaks the panties/pelvis slot (even on females, makes no sense). I'm not able to equip and armor mesh and panties at the same time. The SoS creator linked me a plugin that adds a fix for that into the SoS MCM menu, but it overwrites scripts and makes my game crash when I try to load any existing saves, and he hasn't gotten back to me on that... so I don't know.

I'm using this one: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/29408/?

I don't think it's too feminine, no. It doesn't change the male idle standing animation though, like I said. No idea why it affects all my other male animations... since it's a female animation mod.

Okay, thats the mod that i was referring to actually!!! So basically, it would work great on my NPCs (if they equip each piece correctly) using UNP petite, and can WORK out of the box with SK but will not be proportioned properly for the SK body since the armor is 'formed' to UNP. Correct?

i may test run it and see how hard it would be fix. I very much advocate and support conversions for SK body. As I said, to me, that is one of the touches on this mod that put the icing on the cake!

also, @en or anyone involved directly with SK:

Im running the SK Child NPC replacers, and currently if you gift 'Kids Clothes' to your kids, I had it happen with a girls dress, they run around naked. just fyi. Now im assuming that the kids are capable of wearing anything, so would it be difficult to give inventory access to them like followers only without follower capacity? So it'd be easier to control what they wear.

Best Regards,

arr0w, in the meantime take a look at nexus.  There is a mod there which gives you a ring which allows you to dress pretty much anyone you can see any way you like.  Sorry, don't recall the name of it.  Dress up, or something like that.

They're probably trying to equip the kids clothes, which don't have valid ARMA entries for the SK races, and its causing them to appear naked. I didn't really want to mess with overriding those for fear of causing conflicts, but I guess it could be done.

Its not really a problem so far i messed with one of my custom mods, using some apachii hairs onto some of the children and i think somehow it set things straight. well, shes dressed now anyways and the other two have just disappeared, still gotta fix that but its not a primary concern

Pretty much, but I don't know since I've only tried it with RCotS. Honestly, unless you want your girls to be TOTALLY flat, the difference is negligible once clothes are on. There's almost nothing there.

Posted

Ive tried all three mods and all kinds of body types that are unp based and if all files correctly placed most wrok fine only some body replacers have sometimes little neckseam when some color difference with body and head.

UNPetite for me works best as a texture replacer if you dont want the original. Don't use meshes or your body will look alot different.

Okay.  BOSS has failed to work for me for three days in a row.  It is unable to grab the masterlist, and the masterlist I found on the net was recognized by BUM as being invalid.  The armor patcher is reliant upon this kludgy app.  (This is to say nothing of the fact that adding those Skykids entries to the userlist is a hopelessly obfuscated task which Google seems unable to solve.)  Someone want to tell me just what the armor patcher is supposed to be doing?  Is it just a fancy way of avoiding having to package the vanilla textures along with the armor meshes?  Because I would be more than happy to just manually copy and paste that stuff myself so I can get past this atrocious BOSS headache.

Skip it.  Seems BUM was just full of crap, if you'll pardon an easy pun.  Now excuse me while I gleefully uninstall several thoroughly unwanted Java apps.

I wonder if anyone can help me get this working. I followed the instructions on the first page but the children of whiterun are all running around in underwear and they don't look right. Their faces look like adult's and there's a major seam in the neckline where the colour's are not matching. Been trying to get the to work for hours, i ran the SUM patcher because I have reproccer as well. This is what the debug overview files says..

Not sure whats happening here honestly, try running the armor patcher directly and posting the debug log from its folder.

I think I just need to use some other mods to make them look more childlike. The faces have changed and are all different now but they look harsh with lines that show up making them look like adults especially in direct light, but in shadow they look younger. Can you recomend a mod to make them look more fresh faced and not like they're in their mid 40s lol?

The main problem though for me obviously is that they're not wearing cloths, just their undergarments. I ran the armor patcher directly as you said and checked in game again but no change.

No, that's definitely not it. Besides, any mod you install would have zero effect on the SK children, as SK is isolated from the vanilla assets. You've got something weird going on with your setup that I'm having a hard time figuring out, can you take a screenshot of some of the NPCs so I can get a better idea of whats happening?

The main problem though for me obviously is that they're not wearing cloths, just their undergarments. I ran the armor patcher directly as you said and checked in game again but no change.

Did you hit 'force patch' on the armor patcher before running it and posting that?
Posted

Im really curious as to what problem he's having. Im looking it all over as well since ive done multiple installs so far but most of what ive figured out involves troubleshooting why the armor patch esp not picking up all the masters it needs. Just a thought, but given the modular nature of the DLs, could something crucial have been missed? perhaps specific files for each npc?

note one: i vaguely remember in the development of the npc replacer plugins that it was mentioned each one had specific files included.

note two: im NOT saying that the way the mod or instructions are provided is bad; in fact, quite the contrary. i think your instruction/description post is VERY informative, if slightly confusing until you understand it all. at least it was for me anyway.

In any case, i LOVE this mod en_ so i just thought to give my thoughts

Posted

I think it has something to do with the way I installed the vanilla NPC's files. I use NMM and in the OP it says I can't use that so I made a backup of the skyrim data folder then extracted the rars directly to the data folder. When i did this with the vanilla NPC's files though(all 3 folders) I couldn't activate the plugins(they wern't showing up in the load order or anything) so I moved the .esm files out of each folder directly into the data folder then i could activate them in the load order and do the patching.

I just downloaded Mod Organizer and I'm going to use that I think instand of having files installed some manually(which I have little clue what I'm doing) and some by NMM.

I moved mods from NMM to MO but since I'm not familier with MO I feel a little lost.

@en_hawk: I just tried force patch on exit and got a missing master error.

Unfortuately I think I'm going to just do a fresh install of everything and start from scratch using MO.

I will probably be back :)
