A long overdue, early version of the Camlenthe camelid race is now available for download. After months of letting it simply sit on my computer and keeping you guys waiting, I hope it will bring some joy in the meantime as I resume working on the mod. Rest assured that I still plan to do a more realistic interpretation of a camelid later down the line, but this was a needed change. It will allow me to divert my attention to work on other races and to get back into the grow of modding.

 

Due to things happening in my private life, I may have to postpone relearning 3D modeling for now, but this is still very much a personal, long term goal. Once that is over and done with, you can expect a noticeable increase in the quality of my work beyond what is already on offer.

 

In other news, I began working on a crocodile head sculpt last week. It could easily take me more than a week of almost nonstop work to finish it using the RaceMenu sculpting tool, but I will still give it a try. If that does not work out, I will simply postpone the crocodilian races until I am confident enough at 3D modeling to make the switch to Blender.

Races of Nature – A Custom Race Collection is a collection of animal-style custom races that I have made over the years (and more that I plan to make in the future). Each race comes with its own, hand-crafted RaceMenu presets that will allow you to give a pre-existing race a completely new appearance in the form of an entirely new race. All of my races come with their own texture replacers, and all that are fully completed have multiple, race-specific PoserHotkeysPlus facial expression packs for those who use PHP.

 

DISCLAIMER

All of my RaceMenu character presets are made with a female player character in mind, and it is therefore unwise to assume that everything will work perfectly if you try to use them with a male player character or male NPC. Nevertheless, I have outlined some additional instructions – at the end of the HOW TO USE section of this page – that should allow you to create a male version of the presets with relative ease.

 

HOW TO USE (These instructions assume that you already have RaceMenu and the specific requirements of the RaceMenu character preset in question)

Once you are in the character creation menu (showracemenu), do the following:

1. under the ALL section, select female for your sex if you have not already done so

2. go to the PRESETS section and find a preset of mine that you want to use. Do not click it yet; just find out what race it needs. The race is specified in the name of the preset itself

3. go to the RACE section and select the race that my custom race preset needs

4. go back to the PRESETS section and load the preset

If you intend to be female, then you are done at this point and can now customize yourself to your hearts content, but should you for some reason want to be male instead, then you also need to do the following steps:

5. under the ALL section, select male for your sex

6. go to the SCULPT section and import the head preset of the custom race preset that you selected earlier

7. you will likely have to do some small personal edits at this point to correct any issues that come with using a female preset with a male character, but you are otherwise done and can now begin to customize yourself as you see fit

The Camlenthe race is a modification of the Cervid race by Bad Dog. It does not come with any extra plugin files – just some replacement textures and the RaceMenu presets necessary to transform your Cervid character into a Camlenthe. This means that you can easily switch between Camlenthe or Cervids in your game mid-playthrough as long as you keep backups of the original Cervid texture files and backups of the texture files from this mod. All you need to do to switch between the two races is to exit your game and swap out the textures. It is as simple as that.

The Hippotem race is a modification of the Minotaur race by Bad Dog. It does not come with any extra plugin files – just some replacement textures and the RaceMenu presets necessary to transform your Minotaur character into a Hippotem. This means that you can easily switch between having Hippotems or Minotaurs in your game mid-playthrough as long as you keep backups of the original Minotaur texture files and backups of the texture files from this mod. All you need to do to switch between the two races is to exit your game and swap out the textures. It is as simple as that.

The Rheenen race is a modification of the Equine race by Bad Dog. It does not come with any extra plugin files – just some replacement textures and the RaceMenu presets necessary to transform your Equine character into a Rheenen. This means that you can easily switch between Rheenen or Equines in your game mid-playthrough as long as you keep backups of the original Equine texture files and backups of the texture files from this mod. All you need to do to switch between the two races is to exit your game and swap out the textures. It is as simple as that.

Im having a bit of trouble with the hippo preset, by a weird reason the head glows compared to the body which works perfectly fine, did i miss something?

Of course, and do not worry about the project overall...

 

Races of Nature has always been a passion project -- something that I only work on when I actually feel like it. The problem with that is that the process of making races for Skyrim SE using nothing but Photoshop and RaceMenu is quite tedious. It can take many hours or even days to finish a single race. This spring, I had a lot of time to kill and I also felt highly motivated, so that is why the project saw such frequent updates and new releases during that time. Conversely, it is also the reason why progress has been so slow these last few months, as I only started playing Skyrim again this last week. I simply had little desire to work on a new race, but I have been playing a fair amount lately, and the more I play a game, the more of an urge I usually get to mod it, so that should be a good sign for those who are wondering whether there will be more races in the future.

 

I have a lot going on in real life and I now spend a lot of my spare time on other creative pursuits such as writing erotica, so it is unlikely that I will go back to being as active as I was in spring, but rest assured, the project is by no means dead. I have actually wanted to make a crocodile race for quite some time now, and I did give it a real shot a few months back, but I quickly realized that it would be a long and laborious process akin to when I made the hippo race, so I dropped it. I like to be original -- simply copy pasting an existing head mesh into Blender and making that the new head for a race is not only lazy, but uninspiring, so whether it be RaceMenu or Blender, I would still have to create the head mesh from scratch. The thing that makes RaceMenu sculpting take so much time is the fact that all vanilla and modded head meshes are asymmetrical. I have to tread VERY CAREFULLY when working on the head in order not to make it look asymmetrical. The further you want to move something around, the more precautions you have to take. In order to make a crocodile head, I would have to move the eyes and the immediate area around them further up and back on the skull, and after that, I would have to stretch the Argonian snout to a rather ridiculous extent. I have already managed to lengthen it greatly on some of my unreleased dragon presets, but turning such a short snout into one as lengthy as that of a crocodile is a whole other ball-game.

Race idea: Nudibranchs. Aeolid and/or Doriid bodyplan. Extra points for making them futa by default (all nudibranchs are hermaphrodites). Better yet, do Glaucus atlanticus (blue sea dragon, sea swallow, blue glaucus, etc.) and anatomically build them backwards such that facing front on the player model entails bending their head backwards so that their forehead is where a man's or mer's chin would be.

 

Reminder: The Pokemon Goodra is partially based off of Glaucus atlanticus.

Hello everyone! Sorry for the long wait!

 

It is obvious from the comments and general feedback that many of you have enjoyed my custom races a great deal and I know that some of you are still waiting for more content, so I want to apologize to those of you who have had to wait so long for more races and further updates to existing entries. Progress on this collection has been on the backburner since early Spring, and when you combine that with the fact that I have a ton of basically finished content just lying around, it obviously does not make me feel right either, so beyond a recommitment to the development of further races, I feel obligated to finally share some of this unreleased content.

 

First of all, throughout the last three years, I have made A LOT of custom presets for Skyrim's vanilla races, and in particular Argonians. These are in many cases so distinct that they look like brand new races in and of themselves. The reason I have never uploaded any of them is because I initially intended this to be custom races based exclusively on cryptids and real life animals, but this seems like an unnecessary distinction to maintain, so I therefore plan to release some of my best custom race presets for the vanilla races.

 

Secondly, I plan to release all of the PHP facial expression packs that I have made for my existing custom races. This is very long overdue seeing as most of these packs have been ready to go for months. Sorry to say it, but I can only blame my own laziness for this one taking as long as it has. They should have been released ages ago.

 

Thirdly, I plan to create new phenotypes for all of my existing custom races so that people have more than just one default head option per race. This will give people who do not have a lot of time to tinker around with RaceMenu's face sliders or sculpting tool more options for customization right out the gate and should allow all users to get closer to whatever their desired look may be.

 

I also plan to resume my Blender journey within the near future so that I can eventually give you guys even better looking custom races with completely custom-made feet, bodies, tails, and hands, but no matter what, it will likely still take some time before this will start giving good results, so do not sit around and wait eagerly for the elephant or snake races just yet.

These are just a handful of my unfinished custom presets, but you get the idea. Since these were prototypes, they are quite early in development and some even use some assets from other mods, but that would obviously be sorted out ahead of any actual release.

I also have a couple of actual race projects that are further along, such as a Jackal race based on Bad Dog's bat race, but that will have to wait. I also have plenty of other race presets that are further along than those shown above, but I had these images close at hand, so you have to excuse my laziness. ?

 

Please let me know whether you guys are actually interested in seeing any of these released or if you would prefer it if I just stuck to major custom race releases like those already uploaded.

MINOR ANNOUNCEMENT:

 

So, as a first step on my journey to make up for the long delays, I have just added a long overdue optional addon for the Hippotem race that gives it much smoother skin more akin to real hippos. Be warned, that there may be some slight loss of detail to the face normal map, but this is so subtle that most of you would likely not notice any difference. The torso in this addon does use a completely unmodified version of the body normal map from CBBE 3BA, but hopefully, this will not be an issue. I have explicit permission to make and upload heavily modified versions of the CBBE 3BA textures and normal maps as long as credit is given, and I do vaguely recall also getting permission to use unmodified textures from CBBE 3BA as long as this is done in a sparse, tasteful manner, but if Acro ever asks me to replace the normal map, the addon would have to be slightly modified to accommodate this request.

If by "slime race" you mean some sort of deformed, gooey humanoid, then no. The know-how required to implement something like that -- especially if you want gooey parts to fall off the character as they move -- is way above me. I think you are going to have a really hard time getting anyone to do that unfortunately. Do not get me wrong, I like the idea, but it would be incredibly hard to implement, even for modders at the highest level.

 

There are definitely ways to create a see-through race (or a race with some sort of moving, water-texture overlay for skin), but if you would like to have organs with that serving, then I'm afraid you are gonna have to wait a good while, as it would necessitate the modeling and texturing of each individual organ. Rigging and Havok physics would not be hard to implement for a more experienced modder, and I will definitely get to that level some day since one of my personal goals with this entire collection is to eventually make an elephant race with a fully functional trunk and slowly flapping ears.
