What i had as maximum FPS before is now the minimum. One of the various reasons I stopped building my own PC was this, as well as various other things, I found it much less stress inducing to just go to one of the places that do custom builds and get them to build what I want, sure more expensive but build costs are usually around £50-70 and when you are spending £2K+ that is nothing to really bother about, there again I tend to save over 5-6 years between PC's so that gives me bigger time to cover the cost of a new one, though the prices of them have gone through the roof these last few years, my last 75% PC, which was about 75% of the capabilities of the top line was about £2.5k then, my newest late last year, for one about 90% or so was just over £5k, and those prices were just for the base units, all the other stuff I already had, ouch was my thoughts when pricing up. The mainboard only had PCIe 3.0. Which reduced the possible bandwidth of the videocard. 2. The Addon card shared lanes with my videocard. This reduced the bandwidth of the videocard by 50% (aka 8 lanes for the GPU instead of 16). The old CPU wasn't bad (perhaps a bit low for the GPU). But the reduced bandwidth was, in hindsight, crippling my system for gaming. I didn't notice it that much, i was used to lower FPS with the Radeon 570 i had before, and the 3080 was an improvement to that. Proof Spoiler Old benchmark This one isn't optimized for the hardware, but it gives a few hints how much the system improved for older game engines. Cyberpunk 2077 (with improved textures and lighting). In a newer engine the improvements are very noticable. The minimum FPS are now better than the maximum FPS i had before in this game. And i havn't touched DLSS yet. And when it comes to Skyrim, well, i havn't seen any framdrops yet. Note In case you're interested in Warhammer 40K and want to upgrade the system. Check your store if they are part of AMD's game bundle promotion. 'Til the end of the months you can get free games (although only 'Space Marines 2' is worth it). Zen4 CPUs are notorious for loooooooooooong memory training times on first boot. 10-15 minutes. Lucky you skipped X670 chipset because mine still occasionally says 'NOPE. I don't like your memory kit anymore, please clear CMOS and let me think another 15 minutes about that memory of yours.' 🙃 2

It was iffy at first, but got better after some BIOS updates. I had the super slow boot, too, every time (not just first time). What fixed it was changing the BIOS settings: - memory context restore = enabled - power down = enabled @Aylis New rig is always exciting! It sounds great! Congrats! I was seriously considering to go with the older chipset as those boards are much cheaper. I went with the newer chipset only to make sure that i don't run into issues with the RAM. Thankfully the RAM worked ootb and the training is fast. Thanks for the tips. Now i have to see how to get into the BIOS. The system is booting incredibly fast - at least in comparison what i'm used to - so i still havn't got in there. __________________________________________________ And M$ is causing issues. The Windows 10, which i got from them with an upgrade, is now considered to be an illegal version. WTF! Servers to register the change are down and now i'm supposed to buy a Windows 10 from their shop. Yeah... Sure... Buying a 'new' full price version of an OS which is outdated next year. FY M$! Got a digital OEM version now for way less that M$ is asking. Thankfully some stuff they do in other countries is illegal here (the courts gave M$ a big slap on their fingers for trying to enforce some parts of their license agreement in Germany). When it comes to Windows 11 i'm still not sure when to 'update'. 10 still feels in some parts as WIP and i don't think it will be much better with 11. The only thing definitely working better will be the added advertisements. 🙄 But when i have to cross that bridge i'll make sure to remove that crap from the OS (and block some other 'features'). __________________________________________________ Rant over and back to Skyrim. I found a few more things to check (like Soul Resurrection and SkyValor/Valhalla Combat). The Unsatisfied Ghost and A Secret to Hide might be worth a look too. They probably would be OK, but I needed them for the very slow boot that you don't seem to have. As for the OS, like you I will stay on W10 as long as possible, then see what the options are. Maybe W11 LTSC if that is available and good.

There it was slower - on a reboot it is incredible fast. In the BIOS i finally managed to set up EXPO, but i couldn't find the settings you mentioned (named differently?). Will have to look for them later again. Sidenote: RAM Overclocked RAM With the upcoming festival of commerce with inflated prices (some may call it christmas) quite a few new systems/components will be bought. And very often you hear outrageous claims about the incredible benefits of faster RAM. The newest race is to 8000 Mt/s and how much it will improve your system. I call it BS. What most people don't notice is the raised CL (aka the time the RAM needs to be able to respond to requests) and the integrated memory controller in the CPU (where its quality is dependant on the socalled silicon lottery). The CPU is created via wafers (aka a giant silicon disc) and the closer to the center your CPU comes from, the better they usually are. With AMD the official support is either 5200 Mt/s (Ryzen 7000) or 5600 Mt/s (Ryzen 9000). The sweet spot for overclocking is at 6000 Mt/s. If you are very lucky it may be 6200 Mt/s with your CPU, and if you are extremly lucky it ends up at 6400 Mt/s (Congratulation! You won the lottery!). Anything above 6400 Mt/s is guaranteed to trigger a CPU protection that will slow the RAM so your memory controller doesn't get damaged. So you may buy expensive superfast RAM and the memory controller says 'Nope'. This means you can end up with in theory faster RAM that is effectively slower than slower specced RAM. So make sure you get all the infos and calculations (there's a fomular for that) right before you buy RAM. And always remember that overclocking isn't guaranteed to work and no reason to complain about. When something only works within specs then you got exactly what you've paid for. You simply had no luck in the silicon lottery... Jedec vs. EXPO. My CPU is officially only supporting 5200 Mt/s and i went with a kit that runs at 6000 Mt/s CL30. In other words a kit that is supposed to be one with the optimal speed and timings for the current and last generation of CPU's from AMD. Benchmarks Spoiler Jedec (5200 Mt/s CL40) EXPO (6000 Mt/s CL30) As you can see having faster RAM does (at least in Cyberpunk 2077) have an impact on the FPS. And that by only flipping a switch in the BIOS. But now comes the bummer. I have an older 2K TFT from Dell that only supports 60 Hz. So i can only see the FPS improvements using a benchmark. Normally i'd say that was a waste of money, but i see it as a 'prepared for the future'. Ideally I'd like to upgrade my other 3 monitors to the same specs. I'm pretty reluctant about looking at 4K, not cause it sounds bad but: 1. expensive 2. no matter how much GPUs claim to "natively support 4K just fine", you often end up having to turn on DLSS/FSR which means you're rendering the game at say 1080p and then your GPU does some AI up-scaling magic to give you some sort of fake 4K, you can usually try running at native 4K but usually if the game is even slightly demanding graphics-wise your FPS will drop like crazy. (the reason for this is between 1080p (or 2K) and 4K, you don't have 2x the pixels to fill, like the 2K vs 4K seems to imply, but rather 4x because it's an exponential growth in terms of pixel count.)

I got G.SKILL (AMD Expo) DDR5 6000MT/s CL30-40-40-96. And I enabled EXPO. Like you this was the first time I didn't get Corsair (or Asus). I like that simple Cyberpunk 2077 benchmark thing, though I don't have that game.
Aylis Posted November 4, 2024 Author Posted November 4, 2024 @trgdolors Yep, got a MSI here. The thing is that they completely reworked the BIOS to make it more accessible for users. It is way more usable this way, but everything is sorted differently (like everything for memory seems to be on one page) and the naming has changed as well. On one hand it is a more optimized change, on the other hand it is so different that you have to get used to it first. Submenus you had before are gone, others were introduced and there are so many finetune options now it becomes a bit overwhelming. I guess it is perfect for overclockers, but a bit too much for those who only want to tweak a few settings (thankfully EXPO was easy to find). The RAM was a thing that took me some time. Spoiler Corsair Dominator Platinum/Titanium was a no-go, adding 60-80€ just to get a kit from them? No, their heatspreader isnt that special. Corsair Vengeance. Had one kit and will never ever buy them again. G.Skill Trident. Never liked the look and they got a high price too. Crucial Pro. Only found them with XMP and their chips for DDR5 simply arn't that good atm. Now to the KLEVV i bought. They have profiles for XMP and EXPO, so they can be universally used. And the build quality is on its own level. I think the heatspreader is even better than the older Corsair Dominator i got here. No gaps and really heavy. That means that they will keep the RAM cool and, with their height, won't interfere with my CPU cooler.
buxxuc30 Posted November 4, 2024 Posted November 4, 2024 Hi, I sometimes see naked NPC sleeping (just a few) and dead guards that are fully looted have their stuffs back after I left the place. To be more specific, I looted dead Whiterun guards outside of the city killed by a Sabre Cat and went to Whiterun to sell them. When I returned though, the guards were fully equipped again (except for one I left with boots and helmet on as my carry weight was full. That one stays the same) I tried to loot them full again and went inside the stable's house nearby, the guards' item didn't come back. Entered Whiterun and returned, they're fully equipped again! Any chance that anyone knows what could be causing this? Thank you in advance! I think it could be SPID Guard Armor Replacer or something inside the Equipment Overhaul section, but the only mod I have that interferes with loot and not in Aylis' list is Scarcity. I'm currently trying to combine them with the 'LotD ... for the good guys' series. Armors Should be fine. Gameplay Survival mods, no idea as i never liked or used those. Food and Alcheny can interfere with other mods. Be very careful with those. DON'T USE Knock mods. Those cause major issues and break other mods. Tried two and both were a desaster... Animations Should be fine. Sound That one (plus Evanora) is in current testing and seems to be fine. I'll propably end with a subgroup for those kind of mods. SexLab Should be fine too. 1

I haven't figured out the cause yet but I did find this: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/118936 Nordic UI - Clean Start Menu - AE 1.6.1170 Adds a Quit Button to the menu. Now I can troubleshoot without having to start a new PC every time after I get past Clean Start Menu. On that note, anyone have any advice on ENB issues? It starts to stutter around Flora- Plants (as I add mods one at a time), then soon after the crashes start. Thank you for your warning! I asked Rowan (the author of SPID Guard Armor Replacer and other mods in Equipment Overhaul section), he said it's SPID that redistributes armor on dead NPCs. The newest version fixes it, but it's not stable. I guess we'll have to live with it. Oh and by the way I think on the NPC section: Bosmer NPCs have Antlers Bosmer NPCs have Antlers - Texture Patch We need Cuyi's Bosmeri Antlers - SSE textures as well for the patch. The main menu chunks right down, sound is all garbled. Then eventually CTD. Log shows d3d11.dll as the cause. I'm on my 6th start from scratch, add mods one at a time or change a single setting, launch game again to test. So far so good, I'm into Textures - Landscape and still smooth sailing. I might have got it this time. I read that ENB doesn't play nicely with Win 11, and Boris has made his feelings clear on the fact he will never help nor troubleshoot windows 11 problems. Im fighting for my life trying to figure out why the hangingpelt and floorpelt are missing textures which results in them being purple. from smim to sorting, bugfixes and making sure all meshes are installed correctly... they are still killing me. I checked their id and they are attached to skyrim.esm which is brilliant.

You can't complain about a missing file if you didn't install it (although it is listed). 😛 Of course, didn't mean to sound like I was complaining. We're all grateful for your work.
