so is it worth it

Ehhh.... I dunno... I dunno what £35 is in $, and I'm not sure it is (currently) worth it. It's just got so many niggling little problems that it's just not grabbing me the way FNV, Oblivion and even FO3 did.

On the other hand, it does have some good stories in the various quests... and in the backstories of some of the NPCs. (Sapphires actually got me tearing up a bit... something that hasn't happened in a game for me for a loooooong time...)

No... Jury's still out on this for me. Looks good, feels ok(ish), buggy as fuck in some regards, inventory interface is complete fucking cack (though I'm slowly getting used to not using the mouse at all for that... just the keyboard, even though it makes it so much slower to use. Thanks a fucking bundle for that Bethesda! :@ ) and the quests seem to be so bloody linear... again.

It's just "meh" for me so far... I hope it improves.

50 hours in, haven't even visited all the hold cities yet, haven't finished one guild line.

Damn straight it was worth it.

stood in line on launch night, payed my 60 bucks. almost found myself in a personal defense situation once i got outside with it. 26 hours in on a mediocre computer. and i gotta say it is well worth the time and effort. though that no more blocky faces addon helps a lot.

first off I did buy the game, I own it, second I never activated it, and I play with out steam. (my activation code is safe, and has never been used.) Steam is a plague..

and yes my game is fully patched and updated. and also has the nude patch, and face fix patch installed.

Now I will not tell you how to do this, but it is very easy, if you are a little savvy with Computers.

It is not illegal, this was decided in a court case not long ago.

I play very smoothly this way, and I have not seen any of the bugs that I have read about here.

except for the blotchy nose which was a texture decompression thing. and a stupid msn file or many that were poorly done.

I very much love this game so far, It amazes me how well it runs on my system. with most all of the bells and whistles turned on, and I am playing on a laptop..

Animations are smooth, I never seem to see any update lag from cell to cell, I am truly impressed with beth, and how well they have done this time.

I did do the 24 bit, 44100 Hz [studio Quality] tweak. not that I noticed any sound issue's. But it seemed a good idea.

I have finished the mage guild quest, and am now archmage. and a few others are very far along. I have been taking my time looking and learning, all that they have done.

I Love this game. I may go buy a second copy just to show my support. ( I own 3 copies of Oblivion so I am not joking. plus the expansion & shivering isle's. which was not needed with the latter 2 copies I bought.)

I do wish they had not used DMR though I see many problems down the road from this.

Yes it is! Don't let the "squeaky wheels" get to you. ;)

35 hours in and absolutely loving it. Runs at Ultra High settings on a two year old Mid-range computer with an ATI Radeon 5770.

Does it have issues? Yes, but all the ones I have ran into are minor and most will be fixed by a patch. Only one CTD and I'm not even sure that was Skyrim's fault.

I was somewhat skeptical before the launch, but I have to admit, I'm finding it most enjoyable.

There are a couple of minor niggles. I find the item/magic/map/skill management system a little clumsy on my PC, is the main one. And I don't think it has quite the sense of immersion that Oblivion had. Maybe it's just the lack of pron mods, but I find myself coming up for air of my own accord, which doesn't generally happen with Oblivion until the game crashes.

Against that, Skyrim's not crashed yet, so that's a major plus point.

I'd probably see if I could find it at a better price than that, though.

Disregarding personal preferences, but how is 300 hours worth of content not worth at least 300 dollars? It's an amazingly well-crafted masterpiece and little nitty bugs are nothing to complain about. You would be a fool not to buy this game (if you like open world RPGs) as it is worth EVERY PENNY AND MORE of the purchase price. Don't miss out, doomsayers call it a buggy mess. But I think that bugs can spice up gameplay, surprise you in various ways. Things like flying mammoths and giant catapulting is absolutely hilarious and really gives you something to remember besides the epic dragon and boss fighting. No bugs are game breaking, CTDs aren't a problem with wise saving choices.

If you are a fan of the Elder Scrolls, a fan of RPGs, a fan of Open world games, a mixture of all three, or a GAMER in generalyou owe it to yourself to buy this game! (Just get it for the PC of course! :D)

[/quote']

Because

A) I can't afford 300 dollars for a computer game, be it ever so packed with content, and

B) I can get 300 hours of entertainment on the internet without paying a penny. And I'm not talking about piracy, either.

More to the point, if you've been quoted 75 bucks and people are buying it for 45, you'd be a fool to pay the higher price. Or that's how I see it, anyway.

CTDs aren't a problem with wise saving choices.

I'm sorry to say but when you get the game just closing all by itself without any warning on a fairly frequent basis, even wise saving choices don't stop it from being a problem... Add to it the fact that some are reporting saves not being made (auto or quick saves, that is) then you have a recipe for suddenly having to redo the last 15+ minutes... and when you've just spent most of that sneaking through a dangerous area, you're gonna get a few people saying it's a buggy piece of software.

And when some bugs are stopping you from finishing a quest chain, I'd say that is game breaking.

But don't get me wrong... it is a good game. It just needs them to iron out a lot of the problems with it before it can be truly called an "amazingly well-crafted masterpiece".:P

50 euros here. And damn, it worth every cent. It has some issues, yes (ui, graphical artifacts, poor combat ai, etc). But nothing that cant be fixed with mods. Btw, seems like the latest FOMM can open skyrim esm's.

> make dummy file in skyrims install folder and rename it to fallout3.exe

>start install FOMM, when it asks fallout3 exe location give it the location on skyrims install folder when the dummy fallout3.exe is there

> on startup it asks create folders > i made them as so :

xxxxxx/skyrim/mods

xxxxxx/skyrim/mods/rest (just the scrap files here if any ever)

start up the Fomm and it should show skyrim.esm and update.esm.

click the skyrim.esm and use > open with tesnip and wait for a while as it loads up.

> find your stuff as you go

to make custom .esp files :

while tesnip is open with skyrim.esm

> File / new > makes empty plugin where you copy and paste strings from the skyrim mother file and make adjustments there ans save & name the new made plugin as you please.

50+ hours in and like others, I haven't even made it to all the major cities let alone the hamlets. No major quest lines completed and have a freaking ton of sidequests I am working on! I have to be careful who I speak to as almost every freaking npc has some "problem" that my hero nord has to solve...:)

Worth every penny of the $60 bucks I spent. :)

I paid $60 and returned it so I can buy Saints Row 3.

The game is definitely worth it, but be prepared for some bumps; the PC menus are buggy, the game has this odd habit of CTD'ing rarely, controls can be slightly sluggish at times, and there are some rare but glaring texture oddities. It's a Bethesda game, basically.

That said, it is far and away superior to Oblivion in terms of the feel of both gameplay and the immersion of the world itself. Magic is a blast, melee is satisfying, the kill blows are quick and fairly pretty, and combat is fast paced. It's a masterpiece showcasing the best of what Bethesda is good at; large-scale epic fantasy sandbox gameplay.

In short, it's certainly worth full price. And when you consider the prospective future of Skyrim modding, I guarantee you'll get your $60 of entertainment out of it a thousand times over during the next five years.

$60 for me and it was totally worth every penny. In reality, I would have paid quite a bit more knowing that down the road there will be the most incredible mods that are going to make this masterpiece untouchable.

I mentioned in these forums before the game came out that I upgraded my PC specifically for this game. I bought a new 27" HD monitor (I was on an old 22" 16:10 res one) and a new NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570 just for Skyrim. That's how much I think this game is "worth it".

Also, any and all expansions and/or DLC that is released by Bethesda for this game, you can be sure I will be buying on day one. :)
